Sorry to read about your injuries. Hope you recover quickly, although roadrash can be about the same level of pain and discomfort as 2nd & 3rd degree burns. A lot of doctors and nurses don't inform patients about over-the-counter pain relief sprays and ointments.

Triple Antibiotic + Pain Relief Dual Action Ointment, 1 Oz 12 Pack

Solarcaine Cool Aloe Burn Relief Spray with Lidocaine and Aloe Vera Yes, I know that this is designed for sunburns. It works even better for road rash.

Dermoplast Hospital Strength Pain Relieving Spray

Derma Sciences 31815 Medihoney Dressing Gel This special kind of Manuka Honey is highly recommended by wound care specialists I know to promote quick healing while minimizing scarring. Watch out for fraudulent, copycat, and counterfeit products that look or sound similar. Yes, it's expensive. Totally worth it.

Oh, and next time just put on your emergency blinkers, call AAA and have them deliver a gallon of gas to you. Even if someone pulls over to help push your vehicle to the side, you'll still need the gas, and if someone doesn't help, at least they're on the way to do so. You'll need to become a member, of course. Delivering gas isn't even considered to count as a full towing service (limited number per year). It's damn dangerous to push a vehicle.

From one glow-in-the-dark white girl to another... LIDOCAINE gel should be in your bag right next to your Neutrogena 100+ products. You still can't go back out and do more damage, but the damage doesn't HURT anymore.

Ocean Potion aloe with lidocaine. I've never found anything better (and I've tried a few when I find myself vacationing and sunburnt without it). If I put it on the night of a sunburn, I will wake up with a tan.
Edit: linked.

Its even worse on Amazon.
You can check out their website here.
From their FAQ:

"The package says your product is “Homeopathic”. What does that mean?

The active ingredients in FirstºDegree - Cantharis, Calendula and Echinacea - are all natural plant and animal extracts derived under the principles of Homeopathy and manufactured in the USA in accordance with the regulations of the US Food & Drug Administration.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a natural system of healing that is classified under the category of alternative medicine. Homeopathic medicines are exceptionally safe, and have no side effects or contraindications. Developed by a German physician named Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, Homeopathy has been used to treat disease all over the world for over 200 years, and is especially popular in Europe and Asia.

Is Homeopathy regulated by the FDA?

Yes. Homeopathy has a long history of use and regulation in the United States. In 1938, Congress passed a law declaring that nonprescription homeopathic remedies are to be regulated by the FDA in the same manner as nonprescription, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, which means that they can be purchased without a physician's prescription. All homeopathic remedies are required to meet certain legal standards for strength, quality, purity, and packaging. In 1988, the FDA required that all homeopathic remedies list the indications for their use (i.e., the medical problems to be treated) on the label. The FDA also requires the label to list ingredients, dilutions, and instructions for safe use. The guidelines for homeopathic remedies are found in an official guide, the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, which is authored by a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization of industry representatives and homeopathic experts."

Random reply, and I know this is going to be one of those "Prepared for something that already happened" but grab a box of this: http://www.amazon.com/Water-Jel-Burn-Pain-Relief/dp/B0006GE5N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334805926&sr=8-1

I have some in my kitchen. Because college, drunk, and 2 am grilled cheese. I haven't had the chance to use it, but the active ingredient is Lidocaine, a 3% dose. That's not fucking around.

These are relatively cheap and they work better. As I understand it, nothing beats putting your face in front of a blowing air conditioner though.

Go find burn-jel. It works so well, I'm surprised it's not prescription only.

The secondary tissue damage around the burn site is the most painful part, usually second/first degree burns. So a thin layer of this stuff that goes on and around the burn will make it feel like it never happened for a couple hours. Loose, breathable bandage/gauze on top once it dries a bit.

And although there might be a generic, and it's the same stuff, I swear the brand name works better. Probably placebo effect.

... I used to be a really shitty welder.

I've full on put my hand in the torch flame. I'd highly recommend http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002ATPG3A?pc_redir=1407095682&robot_redir=1. You can thank me later. :-)

Make a first aid kit! Throw in some of this stuff, some gauze, neosporin, the bandaids Shigofumi recommended, and some Duct tape.

I'm using this burn cream on a couple of old surgical wounds and it's working great. I also put it on a cut and it healed really quick.

u/tomcatHoly · 2 pointsr/Bushcraft

More often than not, I burn myself - be it my hands on a metal cooking implement or the top of my bald-ass dome from the sun. So it seems like I open up small packets of Burn Jel more than anything else.

Ocean Potion will change your life. The lidocaine is incredible, the relief is immediate and cool from the small amount of menthol. It's got moisturizing bits too of course but I also take ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. Precaution #1 though. I use Neutrogena DryTouch SPF 100, expensive per fl oz, but it's not oily and smelly like other sunscreens. Had a similar spray, too. /r/hailcorporate or whatever but I'm white as a ghost living in the desert and haven't had to use my ocean potion in quite a while. Skin cancer sucks btw

You could use some of this.

I use Neutrogena Sport in SPF 70.

It doesn’t feel greasy at all and doesn’t mess with my skin. Other brands get slimy, stream off with sweat, and I get zits under my watch and helmet… bleh. Oh, and most sunscreen is like superglue for bugs. The Neutrogena brand feels like nothing at all, and my skin feels clean and healthy (well, as clean as possible on 100 miles of dusty road and trails…). Don’t use the roll-on kind (looks like deodorant). It’s greasy for a while after applying.

I always apply it from a big bottle before I leave, and carry a small tube with me on the ride so I can reapply every few hours.

Oh, and burn gel like After Burn with 2.5% lidocaine helps when you forget and end up burned. I keep a unit-dose packet of Water-Jel in my first aid kit for long trips. It doesn’t help heal, but it does help you stop itching and breaking any small blisters. I was once out for just five hours or so and got burned so badly I had tiny blisters up and down my arms and knees, and scratching my arms broke most of them. It wasn’t pretty. Always wear sunscreen.

I know I'm late to the party, and probably no one will see it anymore but, this stuff is incredible. I'm not sure what is in it but after I got burned by touching a hot skillet, I applied this and had almost no sign of the burn. Amazing stuff to have just in case!

No you wouldn't I agree. This was just what we used during training and when we had to use it on an inmate in the facility. However if you, for whatever reason, have a fear of being exposed to OC spray, you could always buy some OC decon wipes

I did the same thing to my foot. Knocked a freshly brewed & poured cup off the counter onto my foot (was wearing socks). Had the sock off in a split second but still lost a layer of skin and had a nasty burn for days.

If this is still a new burn, these work miracles (they remove the pain completely, or at least they did for me and it heals faster). 2nd Skin can probably find them at the local pharmacy (or a similar product from another brand).

I'm late now but for future reference - my friend (athletic therapist) recommends and uses 2nd Skin Moist Burn Pads on her players. They work like a dream.

u/NullOverflow · 1 pointr/ProtectAndServe

lol rekt... Get /u/warneral some burn gel, stat.

Side thought: too bad they don't make those burn gel in 55 gallon drums....

u/team_pancakes · 1 pointr/vegan

Zum rub is awesome. I bought it for a tattoo originally. Awesome stuff.

> Looks like Dr Bronners has beeswax too though :/

Oh the baby one has beeswax, not the menthol/arnica one.

You might also look at this burn cream. My acupuncturist turned me on to it and it's amazing. I use it on cuts and stuff. I even used it on a rash on my face recently and it cleared it up overnight. It's good for all things skin related and smells neat, like sesame oil. Never thought of putting it on my hand callouses but I bet it would work.

The wipes are for her in case she get contaminated from the pepper spray. They remove the pepper spray from skin and help get rid of the burning. They come in handy little packets. If when she sprayed the guy and got some on her hand and then touched her face or if the wind was blowing just the right way and she got some on herself she could use the wipes to clean up once she got to safety. Also choosing the right spray pattern can help reduce chances of spray back or cross spray.

Calendula! I’m extremely pale, so I burn quite a bit. I’ve been able to get rid of second degree sunburn in a couple days applying calendula twice a day. It comes in either a gel or cream, but I prefer the gel. You should be able to get it at a health food store. I’m on mobile, so here’s the link to it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00COMJECM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_ghWEDb60VCSC3

It’s sincerely time for you to invest in an SPF shirt & big cans of broad spectrum sunscreen. That said, if you want a nice treat, take some Ocean Potion Ice, stick it in the fridge and put it on cold. Ibuprofen, cold showers, ice packs and arnica (under the tongue) will also help you heal faster with less pain.
