That thing has 65% 1& 2 star reviews and an overall rating of 2.3 out of 5 stars on US Amazon.

I'm in Hyundai's verison of the Prius, and did this:

rear passenger seat is my living room and put this on the headrest for my laptop:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0742CPQ7W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Keep my gym bag in the front passenger seat floorboard.

Front passenger seat is slid forward.

I installed window visors and attached this fan to the front passenger seat head rest to move air:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07531B7KC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Rear passenger seat is laid down and I have a cooler in the rear passenger floor board as well as my Goal Zero Sherpa 100 to charge my laptop and phone

This is my bed. 3in dense foam piece 70x24 (cut to size w/ cheap bread knife) and a 3inch foam mattress pad (also cut to size):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071QXXVP3/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0GQ2T4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bought some decent sheet for sale via Macy's and a sweet sweet Buffy comforter (twin size for $100).

IMO, you're going to want to make the bed portion as comfortable as you can afford, or it could be the piece that pushed you to move back inside to a normal bed.

Remember I said my rear driver side passenger seat remains upright. I bought 2 clear plastic containers from the container store to store all of my clothes (they are stacked). If it can't fit (all items rolled up instead of folded), then it was donated. I lost some space as I have one of those rear shades that keep people from looking into the hatch window and seeing what's in my "trunk"

Bought very very small binder clips and command strip clothes pins from walmart and a 10 foot long piece of black material from Joanns fabric. Placed the clips and pins where needed and cut pieces of the fabric to create side and rear window coverings. Have a single piece that stretches across the car to keep people seeing the back of the car.

Old mock set-up I posted so you get an idea of what it looks like:

I also bought a nice front window shade to both reflect sun, but also keep people from seeing into the car, all while looking like every other car with a window shade in the front windshield.

I think you should keep your car and repair it. The $1000 is much cheaper than a new car, and the Corolla will last you many more years.

Could you not repair it, and try something like a 12v fan?

Well, you've got a healthy budget, which is always a plus.

This is my recommendation, but mine only. I only recently got into vinyl myself, so if I screw up I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I can correct me.

TT: Pro Ject Debut Carbon DC. Stylish, minimalist, and it includes an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, which sells by itself for $100. You can upgrade the stylus quite a bit if you find you're wanting something more.

Preamp:U-Turn Pluto Phono preamp

This can be a tough one, because the preamp is one of the most important parts for vinyl. I'm shaving a bit of the budget for other things, because this is a very simple and elegant unit that does what it's supposed to do and no more than that.

Amplifier: You'll have to take this one as a personal choice. It may not be for you. But I have read nothing but good reviews for this amp from a number of different sources. It's analog, and it's great for all formats, but especially good for vinyl. If I could ever stop upgrading my current setup and save a bit of money, I would have one of these;

https://www.amazon.com/Push-Pull-Integrated-Amplifier-Without-Protect/dp/B012CSK30E/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1523002033&sr=1-3&keywords=Yaqin

Not only is it supposed to sound much better than it's price would indicate, but it's also a work of art. There are caveats though. No surround sound. No remote. No subwoofer output. Exposed tubes will burn fingers! This is a simple tube amp that is made to play music. It does that one thing well, and nothing else.

Speakers: The most important part of the system. Some would say that these should occupy the bulk of your budget. But with no subwoofer needed, I'm going for great sound on this one.

Dynaudio Emit M10's. Super well reviewed. Small, but able to fill a room, and your room is quite small for footage. I gravitated to these because there is every indication that these speakers sound capable, and fun to listen to.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075MNM2DL/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B075MNM2DL&pd_rd_wg=UX29t&pd_rd_r=BQE9JHJX0NTV8VQJQZSY&pd_rd_w=69aAf

Outside of some stands and a few different cables, that's about it. This system, to me, starts to creep into the true "audiophile" ranks. It's simple, attractive without being too gaudy, and most importantly should sound excellent.

As before, these are just my opinions. I'm sure others will lend theirs as well. Good luck in whatever system you decide on!

Then why not use a solar window fan on one window and screens on the rest to force in fresh air? They charge up then run on battery power at night.

u/uin7 · 3 pointsr/energy

Watch out I see from your other post that the fan is 1.2A at 120V , that's nearly 150 watts (1.2 120). It means the inverter would draw over* 12 Amps from a 12 volt battery to run it. Inverters are like 75 to 85% efficient too so add an extra a couple of Amps for that.

If your folks have no power and access to a car battery or three, a solar package and inverter will be super useful but it wont run that fan for long. 150 watt load could hurt a car battery in half an hour or so.

Im not a solid hardware reviewer, but here is an example, hopefuly someone can recommend something even better - A 12 volt fan system for 20 bucks, 8 to 15 watts running power (about 1 Amphour an hour) from the battery. Two charged car batteries could comfortably supply that every night, (a poor quality battery alone could struggle but a different one would be fine - car batteries have some character of their own.)

This seems like a good option! Set it on your dash to charge or just change the batteries.

Does your car have headrest speakers?

Mine were the factory speakers and blown all to hell and back. I picked up this set of four Kickers and installed them in a half hour. They won't win any stereo competitions, but they sound fantastic and I can hear music at low volumes.

Cibie 082440 Light Unit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DQV88Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_IuQkxbCJSHRC0

You'll need two plus bulbs. Don't need any wiring harnesses or anything.

Kicker CS speaker package - Two pairs of Kicker CS Series 3.5" Coaxial speakers 40CS354 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016P5ZE0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_KvQkxb28GWZ7P

These are the headrest speakers. Sound great, literally plug and play, fit in nicely as long as you remove the box the original speakers went in. Nice and loud and clear sound.

I would get a fan that vents hot air out of the car. You basically roll the window down a bit rest a part of the fan on the window and then roll up the window.

Below is an example of a solar powered fan.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P24ZMB8/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1

Of course if you stick the laptop in the trunk, then this device will not keep it cool on those hot summer days.

u/thelovelamp · 1 pointr/vandwellers

I think it might just be a cute idea lol, dunno how well it will work. I'm also considering getting this fan and simply pointing it at a cracked open window. It's low power draw, like 7 watts. I'm only just learning about power consumption, I think 7 watts on 12v dc is .58 amp draw, so it'd last quite a while. Depends on how well it blows though.

I'll drive to walmart and see if they have a cupholder I can try tonight, or maybe I'll just rig one myself out of a wire coathanger.. dang, the ideas are rollin!

I've been fine with the simple set up, but a little bit of bug spray outside the van always helps.

It comes down to what you want to do and what your comfort level is. In some dream world I'd love to chop my van full of holes and install heating, plumbing, cooling, a second battery with solar, etc. It looks really fun. And I've done a ton of research into it. But my first test drive without any of those things went surprisingly well and so I've just knocked those ideas down the list of priorities.

Instead I've been focusing my time and effort on teaching myself how to replace and upgrade mechanical and wear components like suspension, paint, engine modifications and so on. My goal is to get my van up to 333k miles.

There is a YouTube channel, Travelling Troy, he does a great job of showing how to do all kinds of cool vandwelling mods.

Here is the fan I am looking at: Amazon fan

I had a similar problem when I lived in Williston. As a short term solution, I just ended up ordering some plug-in heaters from Amazon. I only spent one winter there, so I don’t think I’d try and get by with this daily for years, but it may help until you find a more permanent solution. Good luck!

u/doomrabbit · 1 pointr/autorepair

I had a model similar to this which kicks out weak heat, but just enough to keep the windshield defrosted if you point it at the glass. It is pathetic at warming overall though, got it for safety and faster windshield clearing because it's instant heat.

I bought this fan for the llv

Surprisingly it works pretty well, considering there's no a/c but it definitely helps. Best $26 I've spent for this job

u/black_pete · 1 pointr/subaru

I has a $20 one, got it just to try out, the video is fine, but I plan to upgrade the front and move this to the rear. A 32 g card is enough for about 3+ hours (at least my drive to work and back, twice) There are much better units out there, but for the price, this is worth it while you do research or if you have to wait to afford something better.
In my opinion, insurance companies should offer discounts for people with them.
Here are some images from mine:

I had to turn off the G sensor because my suspension kept tripping it =) It's meant to lock the files if you're in a crash, but bumps would keep locking it up.

This same camera is branded under about 15 different names, I went with this one because Amazon had it.
