I'm sure you've done some research and heard about how fragile they are as puppies. This is 100% true, my little girl broke her foot the second day we had her (just by running into something).

Potty training is the most difficult part about owning an IG. Be prepared for many accidents in the house (if you have carpet I recommend getting a spot bot. They hate being cold. If you live in a climate where it gets pretty cold in the winter it might be easier to litter box or potty pad train him. No matter what, don't get discouraged about potty training, this is the number one reason IG's end up in shelters.

They make great companions and want nothing more than to cuddle up with you under the blankets. They are very loyal to their owners and can be skittish around strangers. The more you can socialize him the better. They are very smart and highly trainable, it might take a little extra persistence but don't give up.

If you have any specific questions I'd be happy the answer them. My IG is 8 now and I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Overview

Here is my work from this last weekend. I am a completely mobile detailer and live in the Chicagoland area. I do not actually open until May but this client reached out to me and I wanted to make sure they were taken care of properly and establish a good relationship.

This detail was a lot of fun. I always enjoy interiors because they are such a huge turn around for not as much work as something like a full-blown paint correction.

The client had brought his car to a bodyshop to have it repainted. Unfortunately, while the windows were removed from the vehicle, they were not covered. This resulted in the work of the body shop making its way into the vehicle and covering it. This vehicle is definitely this client's baby and fun car. He was absolutely devastated and really wanted his vehicle brought back to life so he could once again enjoy something he has put a lot into.

I look forward to potentially working on this vehicle again and helping this owner get his car to any level of perfection he is looking to achieve.

---

Work Done

The client wanted a Definitive Interior Cleaning as well as a Showroom Engine detail. Services described here

To a great help to me, this client removed the seats and cleaned them all before I even came on site. This allowed me to focus a lot more time on the interior and door jamb areas and the engine. We did not put the seats back into the vehicle as I wanted the fabric coating to fully dry before they were put back in. That is why you will not be seeing any seat pictures. They were just fine.

The interior was vacuumed and then was completely cleaned with Detailer Pro's Total Interior Cleaner. This product is my go-to for interiors. It works flawlessly and it has a great smell that does linger and just smells naturally clean. I use these types of interior clothes for working with that product.

To assist in cleaning some of the interior trim and the vents, a steam cleaner was used. The steam cleaner was very carefully used on the headliner as well. It is very important to not let a headliner get soaked or too wet as the glue is very thin. Doing this can cause headliner sag.

Nothing beats cleaning the interior of a vehicle with this brush. It is absolutely my favorite brush.

All interior hard surfaces were treated with Lexol Premium Protectant.

The entire interior carpet was cleaned utilizing a heated carpet cleaner. The entire interior carpet where feet will be, the two front seats, and all four mats were treated with CarPro Cquartz Fabric Coating.

The pedals were cleaned up with steel wool as much as possible. Lots of plastic on them which made it difficult to polish to the level it could have been.

All door jambs were sealed with Sonax Polymer Net Shield.

The engine was completely cleaned using P21S Total Auto Wash and just general microfiber clothes from a place like AutoZone. The engine was then dressed with Adam's In&Out Spray to enhance the appearance of all plastic/rubber parts.

---

Response

Overall the client was very satisfied and could not stop staring at the vehicle.

He stated that it looked like new again and like a completely different car. He definitely seems ecstatic to have his vehicle back to the way it should be.

The client did point out the spots still left on the headliner and was instructed on properly cleaning that overtime to remove them. I expressed no issue/charge to work on the headliner again if I come out for new work.

---

Reflection and Lessons Learned

Not much for this one. I had a chance to finally clean a headliner that really needed it. It's definitely very difficult to clean something when you can't be that aggressive with and just have to take time and a lot of patience.

I got pictures of the interior beforehand, but not the engine. The engine was worse off than I was planning and without the use of water like normal, it took quite a bit of time. It turned out just fine though. Engines can be cleaned either way.

---

Total Time: 5 hours on interior, 2 hours on engine

Total Cost: $390

I used the McCulloch 1375: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00G00BT72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gKh9Bb46CWK0B

But i've been able to achieve similar results with this budget steam cleaner : https://www.amazon.ca/Handheld-Steam-Cleaner-Lightweight-Multipurpose/dp/B077XT32WD/ref=cm_sw_em_r_dp_dz_U_kRKmBbCYKCWGB_tt

I also posted something previously using this exact steamer

This looks like the same one I have, the Bissell spot clean pro.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008DBRFBK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496248370&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Bissell+spot+clean&dpPl=1&dpID=51KUiSAP-qL&ref=plSrch

Comes with a wide and narrow brush attachment. I'm a big fan of it. I used it on a pre-owned accord I bought a few years ago just because, even though the seats didn't look too dirty, and dear god the shit that came out of those cushions was ridiculous. I use it on my cars but also carpet in my house.

My dog did something similar to that, except with crap.

He was young and had diarrhea overnight and couldn't hold it and didn't know to wake me up. So he tracked prints throughout my apartment. Fortunately I had the flu at the time so I wasn't able to smell it.

No pics (thank god) but I will say that the this is the best carpet cleaner in the world.

u/spreadsheet_jockey · 18 pointsr/bestoflegaladvice

It is a "Bissel Spotbot Pet" and I love it.

My dog's favorite vomit time is first thing in the morning, so just being able to do a quick wipe with some paper towels, slap the weird carpet device down on the offending spot, press "go", and resume getting ready for work is kind of a lifesaver. It also saved the day when I spilled an entire bright red soda on our brand new light gray couch.

u/posessedhouse · 18 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

I have this and it works really good.

u/vickipaperclips · 18 pointsr/funny

A lot of pets will just push the foil off the couch. You're probably better off just putting a blanket on the couch at night. My family also found the Bissell SpotBot's to be really helpful for cleaning the couch fabric from smells. It's also really good for accidents in the house.

u/schmuber · 17 pointsr/uberdrivers

> I'm out close to $100 for the cleaning expenses

Invest once, never pay any "cleaning expenses" again.

PS: I use diluted Simple Green as a cleaning solution.

u/jorwyn · 13 pointsr/powerwashingporn

My carpet cleaner has this attachment. It works that well if it's general dirt and dust. It takes a bit more elbow grease if it's something nastier (like orange soda all over my car seats that happened the first day of a week long road trip.) They have portable ones, but I don't know how well they work.

I like the old fashioned type Hoover's. They are simple machines. Don't have a lot to go wrong. The only time I see them for repair is when they need a turbine. (Makes the brushes spin.) The parts about $25 plus labor. I've seen 10+ yo units come in just needing some general maintenance.

I know people are going to argue but we are taught that you do not need heat to clean your carpet.(I've been in the business 10 years.) The heat is what causes the Bissell to clog so much. And getting into those to unclog them really suck. If you can find a janitorial store their carpet shampoo and stain removers are way superior to what you can find in the big box stores.

Edit: Always keep the receipt. Companies are really starting to crack down on warranty work. We have to have a receipt to scan in when we file a claim. Otherwise it will be denied. We can't do anything on our end. We are at the mercy of the companies.

u/AntisocialDiggle · 10 pointsr/TryingForABaby

We went to Target where it was like a freaking perfectly cute pregnancy bump convention was happening. I couldn't walk anywhere without seeing a pregnant woman. Normally, it doesn't effect me but by the time we walked out and passed another walking in I was definitely like this. While there we realized we won't be bringing a baby home to this house. So that was a sucky realization, but at least I don't have to switch rooms around?

I'm consoling myself with buying a carpet cleaner as soon as I tell myself to stop obsessing. I've seriously been debating for like two weeks and gave myself a deadline of this afternoon to make a decision. They are expensive which is why it's taking me forever to choose. It's either going to be a Rug Doctor (can rent from most grocery stores) or the Bissell competitor (can rent from Lowe's. Pretty sure Bissell is winning based off of all my research though. I fucking hate carpet.

What a pile of Bissell PR that gif is.

  • That is not a steam cleaner. They don't make good steam cleaners that look like push vacuums. That is Bissell's wet carpet vacuum. It just uses hot water, and as an owner, I can report is it a PIECE OF SHIT.

  • It doesn't clean carpets that well. This is an ad showing the logo prominently. Those carpets were dusted with an easily removable dirt for the commercial.

If you want to steam clean your carpet, get a professional. They will bring out a panel truck that has a huge hose coming out of it.

    Hail corporate!
u/Illbefinnyoubejake · 7 pointsr/Assistance

No you're fine. You use paper paper towels as much as you can. Then you use a spot cleaner. If you don't have a spot cleaner buy one (Bissell 3624 SpotClean Professional Portable Carpet Cleaner - Corded) and only use water. Then in the meantime get a more stiff brush (Mintcraft 2043 Stiff Bristle Scrub Brush) that won't be used for any other purpose.

Natures Miracle Advanced Stain & Odor, 1 Gallon

If you need it today, make a trip to the store. The reason for using enzyme cleaners is that all other cleaners set in the stains rather than removing the poop from existence. Nature's miracle drops fast when pouring, so don't overlap too much. Instead, clean it multiple times. If you don't dry it with paper towels or a spot cleaner, you might get mold as any liquid sitting under your carpet can do that

Edit, so the ideal workflow is:

  1. Place duck tape on carpet to mark where the poop sort of starts and ends. You'll want this for both when you're cleaning after it's hard to see where it was and also so you don't step on the spot for the next day or so.
  2. Pick it up with dog poop bags that you should have when he goes outside (don't have a shit filled backyard) or walks (don't be an asshole to everyone).
  3. Scrub with paper towels as much as you can. It's like cleaning your ass. Actually it's exactly like it. Now you may learn how toilet paper isn't actually enough and how your gf giving blowjobs would appreciate you bring cleaner than the majority of men.
  4. Take out the trash. This makes airing out easier and saves you from smelling any hint of shit each time you throw something away.
  5. Wash your hands.
  6. Open windows and turn on any nearby fans.
  7. Pour nature's miracle. Start by circling and outline around it. Then spiral in. Wait 20 minutes.
  8. Scrub. If you have a spot cleaner, you can suck up all the cleaner at the same time.
  9. Dry it up all the way (this isn't fully drying it, but no evidence of moisture, at the point, means there's still some moisture left.
  10. Repeat until it's gone.
  11. Wash your hands.

For the future, make sure your dog is potty trained and also is taken care of appropriately (taken outside enough and also is happy and gets the walks and food they need). If you're a selfish asshole, you'll still do this religiously because you know it's less work than having a dog that's stressed enough to shit inside
u/Frugaldub · 6 pointsr/projectcar

Hit the thrift stores. Picked my Bissell for $15. Made me wonder if someone was murdered in my back seat. They looked clean.

u/P1ggy · 6 pointsr/Bulldogs

Here is a good list to get you started.

  • Take lots of pictures. They grow up fast.

  • Invest in a carpet cleaner. I picked up this one. http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-ProHeat-Compact-Multi-Purpose-14259/dp/B002KCMH6Q/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1382137558&sr=8-9&keywords=bissell

  • Be patient, but persistent with potty training. With a good routine and proper rewards the puppys will learn fast. On this note, bulldogs don't bark too much. You may want to train them to ring a bell to be let out. It worked for my guy.

  • Training your pup for 15 minutes is good. Do it every day. Your pup will likely get a lot of mental stimulation out of it, and you will be rewarded in the future.

  • Start a wrinkle cleaning routine early. The wrinkles coming down from the eyes and above the nose tend to get dirty and need to be cleaned often. You don't notice this much when they are young, but later on the dogs start to tear into those wrinkles. You don't want to wait that long to train them to like the cleaning routine.
u/ASleepandAForgetting · 5 pointsr/puppy101

Other small things: Use enzymatic cleaner when your puppy has accidents. If you have a lot of carpeting in your home, get one of these things. Look into health insurance.

Also, relax. It WILL get better.

And finally, something I wish I had known earlier. Keep in mind that most of us outlive our dogs. And one day you're going to be making the final drive to your vet's office, and you're going to wish like hell that you had one more day to come home to your dog, even if it meant coming home to a chewed up shoe. And you're going to wish you had one more chance to take your dog for a walk, even if it's in the pouring rain.

I learned this when I lost my heart dog at six years old to cancer, and I thought I'd have a lot longer with him. So I took my time with him for granted, and sometimes got frustrated and upset. Don't do that. EVERY bad moment with your dog is still a moment you get to spend with your dog, so take a deep breath, be patient, and love every second of it, even the bad ones. One day you'll want them all back.

u/neuromonkey · 5 pointsr/howto

This sucker has made every paper removal job much, much easier.

u/nope_nic_tesla · 5 pointsr/Frugal

FYI you can buy full-size carpet cleaners for about $150. If you are renting every couple of months you should just buy one. I have one of these and it works pretty well (I just had a new tenant move into my house a few weeks ago and she actually commented on how clean the carpet was in her room). You can also get carpet cleaner concentrate for pretty cheap. One of those bottles has been enough for me to go over 3 different rooms (one of them I went over twice) as well as a hallway. I still have about half of it left.

u/Jessie_James · 5 pointsr/homeowners

> would be able to get that back when we sell the house?

You might be lucky to get 50% of the cost if you sell.

If I were you, I would invest the money.

You can paint yourself for a few hundred bucks.

You can refinish the cabinets as well.

The shower will be a lot more work, and unless there's some problem I'd just leave it.

Unless the carpet is damaged, I would hire a steam cleaning service to clean it. I like Stanley Steemer. Alternately, you can buy a high quality carpet cleaner for about the same price as one cleaning, and then you own the machine. I have a Bissel professional that is amazing.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00450U6CS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So ... blow $30k or $1k and invest the rest?

I bought the pet spot cleaner and its worked really well for me. Basically a carpet cleaner that just runs over a small circle.

This is the one I recommend. It's super simple to use and maintain. I usually tell my customers to run hot water through their system once they're done using it. If its going to be a long while before you use it again a little white vinegar won't hurt either. It gets rid of the soap and hard water build up.

This is the one I bought

BISSELL Turboclean Powerbrush Pet Upright Carpet Cleaner Machine and Carpet Shampooer, 2085 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074L775XC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1ZRxDb4NNQQ4C

It’s a SMALL unit however.

It’s not the best for doing large areas and it doesn’t heat the water like larger more expensive units.

But, it’s small, affordable, extremely easy to use, and does a rather good job.

It’s best for picking up after dog accidents and kids spilling juice.

Beats the rag method.

If you’re looking for a big boy then I’d go with something like

BISSELL DeepClean Lift-Off Deluxe Upright Pet Carpet Cleaner Machine, 24A4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZBIL6E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_h2RxDbPV7BYZQ

That’s being said I’ve owned a larger busses unit like this before. More parts and complexity means more points of failure. My last big boy was repaired twice.

u/Cinnamonbite · 4 pointsr/AirBnB

Dude...so? EVERYONE should have some way to thoroughly clean their house.

Carpet Cleaner:

High End

Mid Range

Basic

I stopped using Resolve on my carpets a few years ago because they changed the formula and I suddenly had bleached out white stains on my carpet and upholstery. Now I have a brush and squirt bottle of ammonia, water, and a drop of Dawn. It cleans everything. It's the same cleaner I use in both my carpet cleaning machines. Yes, I have both Bissel cleaners and they rock.

Why do I use ammonia instead of vinegar? Because you will continue to smell the vinegar for months and months and months every time you put your face near the spot you cleaned. Lay down on your couch? It stinks. Both vinegar and ammonia are grease cutters and I use a vinegar mix in my kitchen, no problem, but on furniture and carpets, I use ammonia.

Also, having fostered hundreds of bottle baby kittens, nursing mommas, and having 5 cats of my own and a house rabbit, that whole thing about cats peeing on carpet you sprayed with ammonia because it smells like cat pee? Wive's tale. It has never ever once happened. Ammonia DOES clean the stench of cat pee out of carpets and furniture though.

Want to freshen up your furniture between guests? Make a spray of fabric softener and water and spritz the couch. Smells great, doesn't hurt the furniture.

If your floor is tile, please buy a mop (yeah, I use ammonia there too). Caramel popcorn is easy to clean. Come back when your guest spills sunscreen all over the floor.

It is seriously laughable how tired cleaning the sofa's upholstery just made me. But with that said, this thing is sooooo killer! A year ago, we paid Home Depot to install a garbage disposal and they cancelled and then gave us $130 gift card for our troubles (that was the price we had to pay another installer). I've been sitting on it forever and I finally realized the perfect way to spend it. I love this thing. It got the pee smell out of the hallway carpet (not cool, Max, not cool!) took some coffee stains of my bedroom carpet (no one to blame but yourself on that one, Lolli), and now did the sofas! I wish I'd taken before and after pics!

This is an Amazon link for a similar model used in the video. But you can purchase larger upright machines to clean larger areas.

u/socialisthippie · 3 pointsr/AutoDetailing

You could probably get results that approach professional work like this using a couple machines in conjunction. Obviously pro's tools are going to get things that just won't come out otherwise... but time and determination tends to make up most of the gap.

>Steam cleaner: http://www.amazon.com/HomeRight-C800880-SteamMachine-Cleaning-Wallpaper/dp/B00A1B4B58/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1395695083&sr=8-6&keywords=Wagner+steamer

I'd probably start with the steam to help loosen the really gnarly spots/stains and move on to the extractor to pull all the gunk out.

Combine that with some good upholstery shampoo and some strong degreaser and some elbow grease with a semi-stiff brush and you could get anything out of your interior.

Basically the vacuum is always running, and you have a trigger to spray liquid. There is a dial you select either clean water or the shampoo mix. You do a couple passes with the shampoo, vac that up, then clear water to rinse, suck that up.

u/wrestlegirl · 3 pointsr/UlcerativeColitis

A steam cleaner is well worth the money.

u/rinelle · 3 pointsr/AutoDetailing

I feel like these steamers don't produce enough hot steam to make it effective. It'll be shooting hot water more than steam. IMO, there are better cleaning methods than using a subpar steamer.

If you do decide to get a steamer, there are a couple users that get the McCulloch steamers that you can find on Amazon.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend cat towers, with places for them to hide/sleep/scratch on a post.

Get a litter box for every floor of your living area. If you have mostly carpeted areas, I highly recommend putting down plastic mats with the spikes on one side (you can buy them in bulk at Home Depot or similar stores), and getting enough so that you avoid getting kitty litter (or kitty accidents) on the carpets.

Have wet food for her at least once a day (a spoonful is enough), and avoid getting patte styles. Cats eat based on texture most of the time, so the chunkier (and meatier) the better. There are dry foods that are specifically limited in carbs (or carb free), which are good for cats since they need a lot of protein.

Leave paper bags and boxes on the floor for her. Cats live places to hide or seek out adventure in.

I highly recommend this carpet cleaner (again if you have carpets) because accidents happen and she will have days when she doesn't feel well/has a hairball to get up. http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-Spotbot-Handsfree-Technology-33N8A/dp/B003Y3AA2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417725395&sr=8-1&keywords=SpotBot+%C2%AE+Pet+Deep+Cleaner

Cat claw trimmers, because those little daggers on her front paws will get sharp and she will probably knead on you/near you. Nail clippers will suffice if they are sharp enough, but be careful when trimming! There's an area in her claw that actually has blood (called the quik(sp?)) that has a terrible time clotting on it's own and it hurts them, so don't cut it.

If you start early enough, you can clicker train your cat. This can provide mental stimulation and increase time you spend together!

Best of luck!

I have a eureka. It works well, especially in the kitchen with dried splatters and what not. The top amazon review has a comparison with several other mops as well.

On first use it left my floor damp, but subsequent uses have been fine.

Before you pay the big bucks, try some of this shit (got mine at O'Reilly). Works like magic and even smells decent. Mats looked like new afterward.

u/wingedkitten · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

It's something like this beast I think. We got it when we bought the house because we didn't want to rent one for doing the initial cleaning. It does leave the carpet wet for a while but it makes it look brand spankin new.

u/ultragib · 3 pointsr/AutoDetailing

I use the Bissell Spotclean Pro, which is portable, and love it.

Here's a thorough comment I posted about it a few weeks ago:

I looked at both of those and decided to go with the Bissell Spot Clean Pro because it comes with a 6" cleaning head a 3" cleaning head. I also ordered the crevice tool attachment for $8.

From what I could tell, the Rug Doctor came with only one cleaning head and it's pretty large. It did not look like it would be useful for the nooks and crannies of cars.

I've had it about 6 months and used it to clean many carpeted car mats, about 6 full car interiors (carpets, mats, cloth seats, NOT headliners) and it's performed admirably.

For a sedan with cloth seats you probably can get away without refilling it. For an SUV, you will have to refill once. It only takes a few minutes.

Here's a 10 year old Honda Pilot I detailed using it:

https://imgur.com/a/RGR8G

In addition, it has many household uses. I've cleaned both of our large couches/cushions, stairs, and a couple area rugs.

I've gotten more than its price in use already.

The only minor complaint I'd have is the hose is a bit short, you're going to have to bring it in the car/SUV with you at times. But for its price point, that's to be expected.

Just be sure to clean it out thoroughly after every use. I always fill a bucket with clean warm water when done and just set the cleaning head in there and turn it on until the tank fills up. Then empty everything out to dry.

Steam cleaner/mop and a water filter like this. Cleans hard surfaces at a distance, and use towels to wipe off stains. Hopefully you have a washer/drier in unit.

u/suckinonmytitties · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

since you have a good amount of pets, if your new place has carpets you really need a good steamvac to protect those carpets and keep your house looking new! if you're like me and can't afford that, this folex carpet cleaner spray seriously works like magic. I have two ferrets which sometimes poop in the corner behind my door and I thought it was a lost cause but this brought my carpets back to normal. totally worth it!

u/Curbyourego · 2 pointsr/CasualConversation

Is there a television facing the bed? You could try moving it somewhere food safe if there is, so they won't chow in bed. A spot cleaner might help with the stains and general messiness.

I did a lot of research & settled on this amazing $79 steam mop from O-Cedar last year:

https://www.amazon.com/Cedar-Microfiber-Steam-Extra-Refill/dp/B00US9PSKU/

Notes:

  • Add water using the included cup, plug it in, turn it on - and in less than a minute, it's ready to go
  • No chemicals required due to hi-temp steam
  • Only requires water to operate (I haven't had any problems with my tap water a year into using it, fwiw)
  • It uses washable microfiber pads that stick on like velcro

    Tips:

  1. Push it slowly to allow the steam to do its just, don't use it quickly like a broom
  2. Hold it over really sticky spots for 30 seconds to let the steam do the work for you, then scrub it off
  3. It will self-evaporate due to the heat, so just give it a few minutes to steam off the floor - this steam mop system has made my floors feel better under bare feat than any mop or chemical cleaner or DIY cleaner mix I've tried previously!
  4. It's a boring approach, but divide your room into lines that you can reach with your arm, then start cleaning from the furthest point away from an opening into another room, use the mop in parallel lines side to side, then take a step back & do the next batch within arms reach; you have to go a bit slow for the steam to work, but this way you're not just mopping all over the map inefficiently - you actually get the job done surprisingly quickly this way, it's only a few minutes per room if you're willing to do it slowly in chunks
  5. I'd recommend getting a pack or two of the aftermarket pads for cheaper than OEM - get a bunch of them, because they should (1) only be washed with other microfiber pads (otherwise they'll pick up lint), and (2) NOT be washed with fabric softener or bleach; this is a minor hassle, which is why I recommend getting a bunch of them, so then you can wash them together (I also use microfiber towels for drying my car after cleaning it)
  6. Some flooring manufacturers do not warranty the use of a steam mop on their product, so make sure you're aware of that fact; fwiw, I've been using it on my textured vinyl wood-plank flooring for a year now with no bad results, and tbh, I'd rather redo my flooring as needed & enjoy the convenience of using the steam mop for regular cleaning because it's such a lower hassle than using a regular mop (also tried a mop robot, wasn't a huge fan...the vacs are great but the mopping one was mediocre...and this cheapo model is so easy to use & quick that I don't mind steam-mopping my floors as needed)

My overall cleaning kit is pretty simple:

  7. Small spills = paper towels (hard floors) or spray carpet cleaner (carpets)
  8. Mopping = O-Cedar steam mop
  9. Vacuuming & sweeping ("electric broom") = Shark duo stick vac (absolutely fantastic)
  10. Carpet cleaning (shampooing) = Hoover unit (with Carpet Miracle cleaner solution)

My cleaning schedule is pretty simple:

  11. Clean up small spills immediately as they happen
  12. Vacuum & sweep daily using the Shark unit
  13. Mop twice a week using the O-Cedar unit (wash the pads as you get enough to run a laundry load)
  14. Carpet-clean once a month using the Hoover (I do half a room at a time & just move the furniture to the other side of the room to wash one half of the floor & then let it dry...makes the chore super-easy, instead of being a big huge job)

It's really nice to have an instantly-usable set of good tools to do your daily cleaning functions with. I don't like cleaning for hours & hours or having to do a lot of heavy lifting...this setup enables me to quickly buzz through my chores so that my flooring stays clean all the time without much effort!

I bought a spotbot just because of that cat.

u/bunnylover726 · 2 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

Do you have something like a spotbot to help with the upkeep? I got a spotbot pet and how it works is you set it down and it automatically shampoos an 8" circle of carpet. So you push the button then just walk away while it works. Then move it to a new spot. I let mine run while I cook dinner- it beeps when it's time to move it to a new spot.

The best part is that I don't have to buy replacement cleaning solution off the internet- they sell it at my local Meijer, which is super convenient.

The review on Amazon that sold me on it showed pictures of a cone of explosive diarrhea from a dog that wound up on beige carpet and it cleaned it. A redditor on /r/Parenting used it to clean up when her child colored with highlighter all over her light carpeting and I used it when I had an elderly rabbit who couldn't always make it to the litterbox in time.

Amazon will be having all sorts of flash deals on Thanksgiving weekend and the following week. I love shopping for cleaning type appliances on cyber Monday. Most people are so busy looking for TVs and video games that they overlook the kind of presents that could make mom's life easier.

TREAT YO SELF!

ETA: for anyone who wants to use it for kids, still buy the "pet boost" detergent along with the regular stuff. Little humans are animals, too :P

u/Cherryapplefox · 2 pointsr/relationship_advice

You handled everything. I just have a few suggestions for the couch problem. I recommend either a professional cleaning or Bissell Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner.

They have mostly for pet urine but I'm certain it can help for human urine.

u/whoizaghost · 2 pointsr/CX5

okay so like the comment below 303 is simple and easy. I don"t use it much as its not readily available here in Toronto.

Things i do use:

For the dash board and any plastic inside the car i use:

https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-05324-Protectant-24-oz/dp/B0007RDVGG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487704916&sr=8-1&keywords=mothers+interior

OR

https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G13616-Interior-Detailer-Cleaner/dp/B000AMLWH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705281&sr=8-1&keywords=meguiars%2Binterior%2Bcleaner&th=1

For the carpets i do 2 thing when i am in a hurry ill use:

https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-50572-Rubber-Cleaner/dp/B00PKE6NNY/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1487704985&sr=8-12&keywords=turtle+wax+interior+cleaner

Just spray some on the carpet and after a quick vacuum then do a good vacuum job this can take like 30 mins once you get the hang of it.

when i have time i use:

https://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-1400B-Multi-Purpose-Portable-Cleaner/dp/B0016HF5GK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705069&sr=8-2&keywords=bissell+little+green

The second method is simple just follow the instructions it came with and this item usually goes on sale there are better ones that keep the water heated.

They also both give the car a nice smell after cleaning i don't have leather seats so i can say much about it.

as for windows there 2 steps i do as well:

I use

https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Glass-Premium-Cleaner-91164/dp/B0007OWD2M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705440&sr=8-2&keywords=invisible+glass

Then polish the exterior and where is no tint with

https://www.amazon.com/3M-800002242-RAIN-X-WINDSHIELD-TREATMENT-3-5/dp/B000WNED08/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705503&sr=8-13&keywords=rain+x+glass+cleaner

The second step is a bit tedious so if you are not comfortable stick with step 1.

The thing that also really good to have is good clothes for cleaning the more the better Micro fibre cloth's are the best.

https://www.amazon.com/RAG-COMPANY-Professional-Microfiber-POLISHING/dp/B0166U4PVC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705636&sr=8-1&keywords=micro+fiber+rag+company

and for glass:

https://www.amazon.com/RAG-COMPANY-Microfiber-Professional-STREAK-FREE/dp/B00WC5KQGE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1487705755&sr=8-5&keywords=rag+company+glass

After wiping the class with step one and then its dry i usually just follow up with a dry microfiber cloth to pick up any little dirt i left behind.

If i left anything behind let me know ill make a full post once summer comes around with maybe a video of sorts but there is alot of information also to r/autodetailing wiki post and sorry for the format if its not up to standards this is my first long post.

u/furlonium1 · 2 pointsr/uberdrivers

ah man that sucks.

I've posted on here many times about how great enzymatic cleaners are. That's what you need to use or you risk the vomit smell coming back.

I've used Enzym D and it's amazing stuff. Vomit is an organic substance so you need something to break it down to completely rid the smell, especially in something like seats.

I used it in a basement where there were 5 cats, a couple of which were peeing and pooping wherever they pleased on the concrete slab. It was disgusting. I used the Enzym D full strength and brought in an outside nose and they didn't smell a damn thing.

I also used it the one and only time I had a vomiter while driving.

Use the enzymatic cleaner on the floor mat, and a shop vac or something similar to suck out the cleaner. I have this bad boy I bought for my couches, but works equally as well on car seats and carpets.

As for the speaker grilles - like /u/zombiezambonidriver said see if you can find a video on how to remove the paneling for your speaker. Shouldn't be too hard. --edit: apparently it might be lol

Good luck Drew!

Hey this probably isn't the deal you're looking for, but I have three dogs and we've tried several of the $100-200 carpet cleaners and they all just failed.

u/99e99 · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

i think you're pretty well covered with the other comments and suggestions here, but FWIW, we rented a house near a river with a finished basement, and it would do this every spring. unless the basement was sealed perfectly, water draining into the ground will naturally seep through the concrete and you end up with this. you can try to mitigate it with a sump pump (maybe you have one and it failed?), but it relies on all the water flowing into the sump.

we ended up buying a steam cleaner vacuum, something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BYW3NG/ . It doesn't completely dry out the carpet, but it did manage to suck up most of the water leaving it damp. dehumidifiers took care of the rest. if you get one of these look for something with a decent sized tank since you'll be emptying it often.

u/GrammarFailure · 2 pointsr/AutoDetailing

Do you want to buy a mildly good one and have it forever or rent an amazing one and have it for a weekend? Rugdoctors can be had at a lot of stores for rentals and will do a great job of any carpet/upholstery. Up to you.

The Bissel Little Green is generally the one people go for. You want a heating element to your extractor or it won't open the pores in the carpet and will do a worse job.

u/bugalou · 2 pointsr/Dogtraining

I have a neutered male Whippet that had these issues. It just takes patients. Never yell or scorn the dog for doing it as it reenforces the behavior. You need to really watch and see what sets him off. For mine, it was for him to be in a situation he was unsure or unfamiliar of. Mine always had signs like tucking his tail or turning his head side ways. That is our queue to back off what we are doing. It is also important to break eye contact once you start seeing those signs. It is also important to establish a regular schedule for going outside to take care of business. If you know new people are coming over, or something out of the norm is going to happen, be sure to take him out first.

If you make an effort to do this, he will gain confidence and the issue will become less and less of an issue. It took roughly a year or so for mine, but now it is rarely a problem. In the mean time get a SpotBot and some BacOut. These will make cleanup for accidents much more simple, and the bacout works wonders removing spots and odors from urination (I have cats too, I buy this stuff by the gallon!). Good luck and don't give up on him!

Luckily I haven't had to deal with uber puke yet; however, this is my method for cleaning my carpet if my dog gets sick:

  • Step 1: clean up any chunks/excess liquid with rubber gloves+paper towel
  • Step 2: Spray distilled white vinegar on fabric
  • Step 3: Let sit for ~5 minutes
  • Step 4: Use the following and run over it a few times: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DBRFBK/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_swZUCbT0BT5EN
  • Step 5: Roll down windows for a couple hours and hang an air freshener once windows are back up.

I got my bissell spot cleaner on sale for $100. I use it for spot cleaning my car about once a month and it does wonders. Everyone always compliments me how great my car looks. Plus you can use it for your house as well. Its honestly fucking amazing. It has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years for apt security deposits.

As others have mentioned, baking soda can potentially turn into a gooey mess if mixed with certain liquids. I would avoid it for cleaning cars.

Glad to hear it! Steam is awesome for a lot of things. If you want something a little more powerful and versatile than the little handheld ones, check out the Mculloch MC1275. I bought one for my detailing side job (steam cleaners are probably the best tool ever for cleaning car interiors) and I find myself using it all around the house for tons of things. The squeegee in particular is great on glass, and they are killer for grout. The 1275 is still a low-range steamer but it is a big step up from the handheld for not a ton of money (the really nice, high pressure, high temp ones are $700 and up). You can find it at Harbor Freight for less than $100 sometimes, with the 20% off coupon. Happy your project worked out well!

A vapor cleaner may have a higher initial cost than a pack of Clorox wipes, but it does a fantastic job of sterilizing (literally) everything it touches and would probably pay for itself inside of a single school year. First of all you are awesome. You are the epitome of what this sub is about and I'm honored to call you a friend.

1- This would be the item I'd choose so that I can shampoo furniture and carpet. Furniture mainly since Liz still had "accidents".

2-This was difficult for me as I love all three of my children equally. However I will choose my youngest, Liz to write about, simply because of the way she has changed our family for the better.

The day Elizabeth was born was one of the happiest and saddest days of my life. When we learned she was born disabled with down syndrome, our hearts were broken. But that quickly changed when my doctor said these simple words to me, "All you can do now, is just love her" These words have resonated with me for the past 16 years. Liz has been through hell and back. She's had open heart surgery, three cataract surgeries, suffers from asthma, allergies and a thyroid condition. You'd certainly never know any of that by meeting her. She has taught my family that love is all that matters.

There isn't a single day that goes by that I don't thank God for blessing me with this wonderful gift. I would never change her for any amount of money. Every single day she brings us all laughter, joy and smiles. Even the simplest of things are celebrated. Speaking a full sentence, working the remote, dressing yourself, all huge celebrations at this house. She has taught my family tolerance, acceptance, and advocacy for differences. She touches the hearts of most people she meets. There isn't a store or public place in my town we can enter without someone running up to her asking for a hug. She gives it willingly of course! We honestly forget that she's "different", many times we wonder why are people looking at us, then suddenly realize, oh they're checking out Liz and that's okay!! We want others to be exposed to differences and see that she is just like everyone else and deserves the same rights as you and I. This is what she's doing for my family and my community. I've seen giant high school football players from her high school stop dead in their tracks at the grocery store to run over and say hi and give her a high five or a hug. We don't want nor need sympathy, we've won the lottery with this girl!!

3- here is my attempt at drawing Liz lol

5- I had a wonderful day today. I generally do most days despite bad things happening. I sure try to anyway :)

I get it, it sucks so bad. Finally, after thousands in vet bills, we found a prescription diet that fixed the problem (mostly).

Anyway, I'm going to be the one that asks

  1. Does he do this often? I'm guessing not, or you'd likely mention that. If he keeps peeing on stuff and not the litterbox, get him checked out. My older cat did this, he ended up being blocked with urinary crystals. It could just be a simple UTI, but since he's a HE, blocking can definitely be possible.

  2. Anything change recently that would piss the cat off? Try feliaway diffusers to see if it will calm him down.

If you haven't hit that pissed on stuff with Nature's Miracle or something, try it or try the hydrogen peroxide/water/baking soda mix (google). I broke down and bought the Bissell Deep Clean Pet Carpet Cleaner and it's awesome. It's removed everything from cat piss, cat shit, old milk spills and potty-training pee from the rug, bed, couch, etc... It even got out old pee smell from a rug I had.

I used to work at a vet's office for years and I've had a few problematic cats in my lifetime, feel free to ask me any more questions if you want any more advice or you know, internet hugs, I know what it's like.

I have one of these to clean up cat vomit at my house. It does an OK job. Easy to fill and not too big. With the smaller reservoir I can refill it with hot water each time I need it and don't feel like I'm wasting the carpet shampoo. You do have to empty it and let it dry completely, though. Like all carpet cleaners, if you don't it will get musty.

I had one of these for our old apartment for any stains from our dogs, food spills, or anything. You could also get this which is an enzyme cleaner and is pet and kid safe.

I use my shop vac for spot cleaning in between my seasonal shampoo'ing of the whole interior. I like to use a foaming cleaner like Tuff Stuff because they're cheap and readily available OTC. Agitate with a good stiff bristle brush, and vacuum it up before all of the foam dissipates.

Just a tip, if you have the extra coin, I've been very happy with this handheld shampoo'er from Bissell. Well worth the money. http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-ProHeat-Compact-Multi-Purpose-14259/dp/B002KCMH6Q/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1409155025&sr=8-15&keywords=carpet+shampoo+bissell

Nature's Miracle and paper towels work extremely well on their own, especially if you are diligent about potty training (our dog has probably had only about 5 accidents in his entire life. He's currently 21 months old).

That being said, we were gifted a Spotbot and it is something nice to have (but again, not necessary), especially for bigger messes and already set in stains (we use it far more for cat puke than for dog accidents). It's just so easy since all you have to do is fill the water/cleaning solution tank, throw it on the mess, and press a button.

Give her a box, okay. Her own home. Every cat needs one.

You're doing very well, you're a good cat owner.

Think of it from the cat's perspective. She has to live in this strange place, full of unfamiliar smells and odd noises. She needs her own box. Her own little place.

She probably wants her mama. Fuzzy blanket + warm will go a long way to fixing this problem.

Link to pet heat pads

And...as I said. All cats barf, some far more than others. You are a very good cat mama, but let this go for a bit, okay. You are probably making her more anxious.

Don't fast her. It will just create worse problems down the line. She's going to barf, oh well, clean it up. My Meez barfed everywhere for a year - he was my dad's, and dad died, so the poor cat was stuffed into this tiny little carrier and then stuffed under an airplane seat, then decanted into a house full of other cats, all hostile - he even barfed in my hair while I was asleep. That...that was disgusting. Showering at 3 in the morning is not my idea of fun. But. He was very upset. I can understand that. I fucked up badly, should have locked him in a room by himself, but, well, I'd just put my dad to sleep, and moving in with husbnd, and wasn't exactly thinking clearly. Or at all.

Cat got over it, eventually. Yours will too. There is no behavior modifaction needed apart from making the kitty feel loved and safe. Restricting food will not do that; it just makes them fretful. Again, think about it from the cat's point of view. She is nervous, scared, new house what the hell, who are these people, etc. Give her a warm box, and feed her the recommended amount every day, don't chase or bother her, and she'll eventually want to talk to you.

Source: one of my cats was a feral that I catnapped. She hid in my closet for a year. Yes. A year. I ignored her. Eight years later, can't get her to leave me alone for a minute.

Common wisdom says you can't tame a feral. Ha. Tell Lela that.

Anyway. Set up that warm box, and maybe do the old towel over the top thing; it will give her her own space. Cats need it, and need it to be enclosed. Especially anxious cats; they have to have a cave to hide in.

Don't expect immediate results, either. You're going to have to wash the catbox bedding a lot. Don't use scented stuff, they hate that. She'll chill out after a while; until then, let her come to you. In other words, ignore her. Let her explore, and you stay put, wherever you are. She is learning this big scary new place, and you are the most frightening thing in it - you're big, can be loud, etc. Sit still, and she will come to you, eventually. Cats are predators, so they know very well that bigger things can kill them. Silence and stillness are what will help you here. Also patience. Yes, it might take a year. So what?

She might still barf a lot. Get a handheld carpet cleaner, and deal with it. Some cats are just barfers.

u/dantheman9283 · 1 pointr/AutoDetailing

I have this one and it has been great! I definitely get the 90 minutes of steam time that they advertise and I think it would be worth the extra 8 cents over the one you posted.

u/5RabbitsInALongCoat · 1 pointr/breakingmom

Okay, so this is a little pricey, but....Nature's Miracle in a Spotbot.

A Spotbot is like if a carpet cleaner fucked a Roomba. You set it down on the mess and press a button and it scrubs a little circle that will look suspiciously cleaner than the rest of your carpet. And it has a handheld attachment if the clean ring/rest of the carpet disparity is bad enough for you to decide to get down on your hands and knees and start scrubbing.

The Spotbot pamphlet will say that you must only use Spotbot brand liquid cleaner. It is lying to you. Pour Nature's Miracle into it and set it free to do its blessed work.

I have a dog with a nervous bladder. Two birthdays ago, I gifted myself a Spotbot. Best. Gift. Ever. Holy shit, I love it.

u/Plumrose333 · 1 pointr/Dogtraining

Very smart. You will not regret your decision to buy one. I purchased this one (https://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-PowerLifter-PowerBrush-Shampooer-1622/dp/B001BYW3NG/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1539128617&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=bissell+carpet+cleaner&dpPl=1&dpID=41R1L7nu07L&ref=plSrch) and it has been great. My only complaint is that if the carpet has not been recently vacuumed, it can sometimes get clogged with pet hair. This really isn’t too big of an issue, it just leaves wet clumps of hair on the carpet. A few comments about this cleaner though

  1. Buy disposable gloves and a face mask. It’s disgusting to clean and the smell is horrible
  2. Change the water as often as you can
  3. Use a small amount of cleaning solution (I use dr. Broners concentrate). It will help with the smell
  4. Only use cold water on dog urine-hot water makes urine smell seep into the carpet
  5. Ever so often you’ll need to spray the whole thing down with a hose outside
  6. From my experience, it’s not so great on stairs. Have something ready to go just in case your dog decided to pee on the stairs

    Good luck!!

We were pretty broke at the time and grabbed this McCulloch MC1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner it seemed to work alright. We had to go super slow and did multiple steam treatments. The real test is making sure that whatever you’re steaming hits a high enough temperature to kill the bugs. To effectively kill bed bugs the surface temperature should be at least 160-180°F immediately after the steam brush has passed.

u/mellena · 1 pointr/AutoDetailing

The one in the video with Jay obviously is on the professional price level. The steamer you posted is questioned commonly on this subreddit and from what I have read the determination is it cant hold up for the demands of auto cleaning. I personally have not used it so I cannot say. But I would highly recommend the McCulloch MC1275. It is just over the $100 mark but is a amazing investment just not for cars. The steamer changed the way I wash my hard wood floors, my tile, bathrooms, showers and kitchen not just my car. But its amazing for cars as well. Its strong enough to steam carpets with a microfiber towel wrapped around the end and steam engine bays with tough oils. I think the issue with low end steamers is they simply dont get hot enough which results in not great steam and just hot water leaking out the end. This does not have that issue what so ever. The unit was recommended to me by Larry at AMMO NYC who is a legend on this subreddit. Here is his video on steaming the interior: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT10-bIAgyk

Not sure of the fiber content of the rug, it's not particularly valuable (just a 5x7 rug from bed bad & beyond).

Sorry about the bad picture, but basically the fibers appear to be distressed to the point that they won't align with their original pattern.

We have 6 cats. While it does not get that bad actually, I suggest getting a portable carpet cleaner. Also it's expensive but the Rocco & Roxie brand cleaner liquid really works. If they are peeing in a specific spot then puppy pads help.

Also if you are cleaning up lots of barf then either

A) feed less cause they might be gorging

B) get bigger kibble food so they actually have to chew it (one of ours was swallowing the smaller stuff whole) or get "slow bowls"

C) give them hairball medicine (it's basically a fiber supplement so they poop out the hair)

D) comb them frequently (esp if they're long-haired)

E) try different food that agrees with them better.

I'm guessing that the typical stuff has been well covered. One tool that we found surprisingly useful is a baby wet vac. Spills, diaper containment fails, etc are going to happen, this will help you quickly deal with soiled fuzzy surfaces.

u/homedude · 1 pointr/homeowners

My house is about 90% tile (carpet only in the bedrooms) and I use a combination of an old-school kirby vacuum with a hose/floor attachment and a steam mop. The steam mop is great for getting sticky stuff up easily. I've got two kids and two dogs so juice splashes, food and god only knows what else is always getting ground into the tile. I like being able to just fill it up with water and then toss the pad in the washing machine. This model is nice because if you don't have any clean pads, you can also just stick a dish towel to the bottom of it in a pinch.

I have two in an apartment and they do well. They can at times bark because they saw/heard/imagined someone outside. We bought an extractor to help with the little bladder/stubborn brain issue they have and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

u/defective · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I have a couple of options, but they cost money. I think I have the same civic as you, mines a '10.

I got one of these (amazon link to a Hoover steamvac carpet cleaner) and it comes with an upholstery attachment. It works very well, but it's hard to shove into corners and crevices. You can get foaming carpet cleaners at the grocery store and use a brush, alternatively, that would get into those spaces. The difficult part then would be drying everything. So then you could use the Hoover to suck out the water as much as you can, since that's what it's designed for.

I also got a shop-vac, a 5.5hp, or maybe it was 4.5, I forget. It's BETTER than the vacuums at car cleaning places, I swear, and it was only 80 bucks. I highly recommend that. And since it's a shop-vac, it can clean up wet stuff, but the hoover has a better attachment for sucking water out of upholstery IMO. Anyway, I couldn't live without the shop-vac now. I clean everything with it, spills, dust, wasp nests, everything.

I gave up on rentals and bought one. This Bissell works really well - actually, a bit better - compared to those Rug Doctors you can rent at grocery stores. It cost about as much as two one-day rentals so it paid for itself in the first year.

If you need a bomber deep-clean, I recommend Grant from Bellingham Carpet. You have to move all your furniture, of course. But he uses non-chemically "green" products that won't stink up the place or leave you feeling icky. He's also a pretty nice guy and easy to work with.

Goes through the detergent pretty quickly though.

We actually had a similar problem with a 15x45. We bought a shark handheld steamer. The kind that is made to clean tile and has a terry cloth rag. This works really well just make sure you do long smooth sweeps. The steam loosens everything and the rag pulls it off. We have since used it on all our screens when they need cleaning. It takes time you have to slowly go over the whole screen and you have to rinse out the terry cloth rag a lot. But it works and works well.

You may want to try this. I own one and it is great, I actually just used it to clean my couch last night. It comes with a special upholstery attachment. I think the key to cleaning a MOHEDA is doing the entire cushion instead of spot cleaning.

If there are cushions with linings that can be removed you could try washing them (I wouldn't put them in the dryer though). For the upholstery that isn't removable you can use something like this. Go to target/Walmart/wherever now and buy this machine

With a pet you’ll be thankful for it later, but for the short term it’s a carpet cleaning wetvac. Use it to re-wash the places that you did before and it will clean and suck all the remaining liquid right out.

This machine is a little miracle with a let. My cat barfed brick red cat food all over my daughter’s light gray carpet, and it sat there all day while we were at work. You’d never know it had been there.
