i needed macro ability too, i bought this

even with a thick protective case i was easily able to get pics like this.

i've got this one, less than 10 bucks at the moment and it zooms good enough to show the individual rgb pixels on a screen, which is real fun.

I'd say you've definitely got the skills, and you'd be surprised at the image quality you can get from your phone camera, good lighting, and a cheap clip-on macro lens.

u/Z______ · 6 pointsr/GooglePixel

The aukey clip on lense works decently. It's a two in one.

Wide angle

Macro lense

edit:

here's the Amazon link. Currently around $20.

u/montydrei · 6 pointsr/Watches

I did not post this on Macro Monday for a couple reasons: 1) this photo was not taken with a "real" camera and macro lens, but rather with a Pixel XL and an Aukey Ora macro lens, and 2) the Aukey lens didn't arrive until Tuesday :)

Here is the Sea-Gull ST2153 movement in my Bogalelon. Side story: I took it in to a local watch repair place (first result for "cheap chinese watch repair" in my area, heh) to figure out why the watch kept losing time or stopping overnight. He ran some tests on it and determined the likely cause of the was that the movement is dirty. However, he also recommended against servicing it, as it would be about $220 (not worth it for a $250 watch, obviously). Instead, he told me to keep wearing it, and maybe it'll improve over time.

He also said the watch and movement were really well built and identified it nearly immediately as a Breguet homage without me saying anything. I like this guy; I think I'll take any future "real" watch to him for servicing.

Absolutely! This one came from amazon and is an Apexel clip-on macro lens. Have you tried the cheapie little clip-on "macro" lenses for your phone? I was skeptical but I got a set on sale on Amazon Prime Day, and it works surprisingly well for reducing the minimum focus distance. Using mine on an iPhone and have gotten pretty good results for a $20 toy from China. For something this size you should be able to get a decent amount of detail.

This kind of thing (Amazon Link)

Sample image from my phone

u/hydro916 · 5 pointsr/GooglePixel

I got the Aukey lense:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01D8KOAWM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478445662&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=aukey+lense&dpPl=1&dpID=41teZb%2BUa4L&ref=plSrch

Haven't used this on the Pixel, still waiting for my order, but I had it on my note 7. It was honestly amazing and gave me great wide angle capability. I didn't really use it for the macro lense but it worked excellently.

It's compatible with just about any phone. Let me know if you want me to upload an imgur album with some of the pictures I've taken with the lense attached.

**Update***:
[Here it is!] (http://imgur.com/a/3YNBf)

You may notice many of these images have a slight cut off towards the right of the screen, this is simply because the Note 7's camera was really far down the device and the lens wasn't able to reach all the way down.

Really broke the bank on those

I don't mean to bust your balls though. This was pretty fucking funny, because it's so true

u/General_Confusion02 · 3 pointsr/MacroPorn

The one I got is totally unmarked, I found it on a selling website called Mercari. It was cheap but strangely has a really high quality feel. I don’t have any real experience with cameras and photography but I’m pretty proud of this picture. I’ll poke around and see if I can find it anywhere.

Here’s a link to a really nice one thats a lot better than what I have, for $30

This one is $6 and not amazing quality, but it can produce some beautiful pictures.

After some digging, I found the one I have, for $18 which is more than what I get it for, but it’s really nice and has a high end feel.

u/Danshardware · 3 pointsr/microgrowery

I like these inexpensive ones that attach to your cell phone camera

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K1ANJWK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_LgLYBbGF1Q723

u/wanderants · 3 pointsr/antkeeping

Thank you very much, at the moment I’m sans a macro lens for my rebel. So I bought this clip-on lens for my iPhone 8+, I’m pretty sure it’ll work on android too if you’re not a fan of apple. Good luck filming your friends colony, and make sure to post it!

u/1roOt · 3 pointsr/Vaping

Amazon here you go. I just take 20 photos, choose the best one and zoom in quite a bit..

u/thevulturesbecame · 3 pointsr/MMA

Wide angle lenses that attach to cellphone cameras are really cheap and may allow you to turn your camera sideways at the same distance you're filming out now but keep your whole body in the frame, just an idea. Here's the first one that came up on Amazon when I searched for an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8KOAWM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_lSiSzbA1SYX5G

u/picogardener · 3 pointsr/bettafish

They actually make some designed to clip onto your phone! Something like this, although I've seen them cheaper.

u/sl1pperyp1ckle · 3 pointsr/shrimptank

Sure it's this lens on amazon attached to my phone camera ( Samsung S8+).

u/Moonohol · 2 pointsr/tarantulas

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014CXK9FQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hUdIxbN96N2BM

I got it on sale, so it is $15 now, but still definitely won't break the bank!

u/Hangloosebra · 2 pointsr/pixelography

Not a problem. It's isn't a bad deal. For these lens attachments you always have to remember that the glass quality has only got to equal or be close to what the phone has. You see these Carl Zeiss lenses and moments but at the price point is it worth it? The quality can only be as good as Google lens. This lens doesn't seem to be far off. I'm actually really impressed at the price point.

AMIR 2 in 1 Professional HD Camera Lens Kit, 0.6X Super Wide Angle Lens, 15X Macro Lens, Universal Clip-On Cell Phone Lens for iPhone Samsung Most Smartphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H1JY95E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xkPbAb9GWHTM7

u/eugenia_loli · 2 pointsr/Filmmakers

You will need this rig with the mic: https://www.amazon.com/Movo-Smartphone-Shotgun-Microphone-Samsung/dp/B077YS5ZV5

and also a clip-on variable ND filter (so you can control the shutter speed more, for a cinematic effect): https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Clip-Cellphone-Camera-Filter/dp/B074JYY9Q3

Optionally, a tripod ($20), if you want some static shots without wobble at all.

And of course, you will need to purchase the app Filmic Pro ($15 with the needed in-app purchases), which is the best recording app for the iPhone. It's the same app used when real movies are made with the iphone (e.g. by the Sodebergh director).

Overall, $100.

Tip: if you want to add some artsy aesthetic, you can download the super 8mm emulation app which shoots video as if it was a film camera. Very convincing effect.

u/schwat · 2 pointsr/spiders

Believe it or not this was with one of those really cheap 10x clip on macro lenses clipped on an LG V20. I couldn't believe how well it worked tbh. The downsides are it has very shallow DoF and focuses like 0.5" away so you have to practically touch what you're taking a picture of. I was surprised he didn't jump away.

I'm not sure if this is the exact one but it looks right. The one I have has 3 lenses and 2 of them are useless but the 10x macro is fun.

https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Wide-Angle-Samsung-Android-Smartphones/dp/B01D8KOAWM

u/Jdogg4289 · 2 pointsr/Watches

It's crazy enough to me that phones have cameras at all but the fact they're THIS good today blows my mind.

Here's the link to the one I bought https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A6D2JVI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rZ73AbTSFS188

It says it's for iPhone but it works just fine on my note 8. Your mileage may vary however based on your phone.

u/covor · 2 pointsr/Xiaomi

It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/Apexel-Professional-Advanced-Samsung-Android/dp/B01IMV2QL4, although I think they are all the same.

This particular lens has 2 lenses, if you use both they give you a 24x magnification, but the image is not that great and the depth of field is too small to be useful. Also keep in mind that the center is pretty nice and free of chromatic aberrations, but the side is not that great.

u/CliftonHanger001 · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Hehe. I bought that same magnifier...it’s not the most user friendly. I got fed up and scooped-up this one which works great :)

You can use something like this but they usually reduce the quality.

u/Betorange · 2 pointsr/AskPhotography

I’ve been testing smartphone lenses for a few months, and I feel like the Macro lenses are the only ones worth trying.

The telephoto lenses are a waste of money as they only get you 5-10 steps closer than where you’re at. You can easily just walk those steps and get a better shot as the telephone lens degrades quality.

I feel same with wide angle lenses. You can easily step back 5 steps and get the same shot at better quality. Or just shoot a panoramic.

As for macro lenses, they offer something your smartphone can’t do by walking, and I feel that it’s worth considering.
As for which one to get, more expensive and name brand is your best bet. In my experience, the Olloclip Macro Lenses are phenomenal. The Macro set costs $100, but it blows everything else below it out of the water. If you have an iPhone SE, you can get the older version on Amazon for $40 and it’s incredible. I know you said your budget is 50, but consider buying the Olloclip as it’s just so much better.

As for proof, here’s a Jumping Spider Macro photograph I was able to capture with my iPhoneSE( 3-4 year old phone) and theOlloclip macro lens for IPhone SE . The quality is just stunning considering the price of the lens and age of the phone.
Jumping Spider

If you REALLY can’t afford it, I also suggest the Xenvo Pro Kit Lens on Amazon
This one comes with a good macro lens and wide angle lens as well as other goodies. And it’s only $40. Here’s a macro shot I took with that one. Very good image quality!

Something that makes me happy is cuddling with my SO. I've never been much of a cuddler and when I'd cuddle with other people I'd end up moving away quickly but omg I melt when I'm cuddling with him. I sleep so peacefully and good. I never thought I'd ever feel so comfortable and protected cuddling with someone.

If I can send you the small difference this, if not then this

Super cheap and the quality seems decent reading the reviews !!

u/tomgabriele · 1 pointr/Smartphones

The G5 will definitely produce pictures that are more than "good enough". That said, the S7 camera seems to be noticeably better. Have you considered one of the many options for swappable external lenses, like this? That will give you even more options for creative picture taking.

Samsung also has a first-party swappable lens system, but for $150, I seriously doubt it's worth it.

u/hi_its_not_me_lol · 1 pointr/nexus5x

Most smartphone camera attachments are universal. I don't think you'll find one specifically for the 5X. I use one that my friend originally bought for his iPhone and it works quite well. https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Supreme-Fisheye-Android-Smartphones/dp/B00QXT58JA

Admittedly though I haven't looked at other products.

u/Sirius401 · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Get this ...$14 and works fine. I have this and use it if I need a better picture, same thing as moments stuff, https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-kit-198°-Fisheye-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B07NXZL19H/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=Camera+lens+phone&qid=1564245950&s=gateway&sr=8-10

If you want better...get a $200 point and shoot for better quality. Phones are great but trips like that bring a nice camera

This is on sale for $230 and will crush phone cameras and you have a large zoom.

According to user reviews it has an identical bayonet attachment system, and is very competitive, and even better than Moment in certain areas.

Depending on what you're photographing, something like this might work, as it comes with a macro lense, or you could combine the 2x lens with the 2x optical camera. Regardless, I don't think you'll be able to achieve much past 4X, or I have a feeling it would get a bit pricey. I've had success in the past photographing specimens at 10X and 100X through the microscope eyepiece, if you have access to one that might be your best bet.

There's a ton of budget clip on lenses out there, with varying degrees of quality. Forget which brand I ended up with. The quality is nowhere near a nice camera with a dedicated macro lens, but this gets the job done.

If you're willing to spend extra and have an iPhone there are more impressive options.

I did a similiar thing with a 16 dollar lense kit from Amazon. Not bragging just saying it's awesome how cool some of this stuff can be on the cheap. Obviously not as good as OPs though.

Lens used, for those interested. I've never been a great photographer so anyone can learn to use this if I can.

Nice! I recently got these filters and they work pretty well, especially the orange one. My biggest problem is that my phone (Pixel 3 XL) tries to correct back to the blue color that it sees without the lens. Changing AWB to "cloudy" helps a little bit, and sometimes I get lucky and can take the photo before the phone tries to correct for the lens. The magnifying lens in the kit that I linked basically does nothing except distort the picture.

I appreciate this was posting here about 6 months ago but I think there's a fair shot people won't have heard of it.

If you missed it, it got the Reddit hug of death after it was posted elsewhere on Reddit yesterday - first time I came across it and it's still recovering.

If you're going to give it a go, try to pick a product which doesn't have bucket load of reviews as otherwise it takes ages.
