If it has those plastic strings then you need nylon strings for it these ones will be fine

You will definitely be able to do it yourself. This video should show you how to to it. I'm pretty sure these dont have a ball end but if they do make sure the ball end is on the bridge and not at the head of the guitar.

Your fingers will hurt when learning, try not to press super hard though, just enough to make the strings touch the fret board.

It is a classical guitar. They use a mix of nylon and wound(metal) strings so don't be alarmed. If you go into a music shop just ask for classical guitar strings and get something reasonably priced and decent, here's some good ones. You can pay a shop to change the strings for you, usually goes for around 20 bucks, or you can try it yourself by following a video like this

I personally don't like high-tension strings one bit, but low tension strings have too much bend to them. Mediums for me all the way.

I have found the following two strings to be pretty good at creating an all around good tone for my two guitars. The Augustines actually were amazingly quick to stabilize and quit slipping out of tune, so they might be my favorite. I'm not sure yet.

As for when to change strings, I figure about every 100 hours of play time or so. I've seen some people suggest cleaning your strings by removing them and soaking them in an ammonia solution, but that looks like way too much work when I can buy a decent pair for $10.

I'd love to see other people's string preferences as well.

I don't mean to nitpick here, but these are the silk and steel strings I am familiar with: https://www.amazon.com/Martin-M130-Steel-Guitar-Strings/dp/B0002CZT0M

They are intended for use on a regular steel-string acoustic guitar. According to the manufacturer, they are made with tin-plated steel core wire and silver-plated copper compound wrap wire.

Classical strings are quite different.

Strings 6, 5, & 4 are silver (or bronze) wound around a fiberous core, with strings 3, 2, & 1 in clear nylon.

Sorry for replying so late. Haven't been at my PC so I couldn't link the strings easily. I usually play on the EJ46C's (https://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EJ46C-Pro-Arte-Composite-Classical/dp/B0002IKZM8) but if you're more of a beginner I'd recommend learning on something like EJ45's (https://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EJ45-Pro-Arte-Classical-Strings/dp/B000EEL6J6/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=d%27addario+EJ45C&qid=1566738783&s=gateway&sr=8-2). They have a lower tension which makes it easier to play clearly.

Okay, If the top of the guitar(headstock) looks like this:

It's A nylon string. If it looks like this:

>http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=acoustic+guitar+head&qs=n&form=QBIR&pq=acoustic+guitar+head&sc=5-20&sp=-1&sk=#view=detail&id=1CAA97FA30D02EC26C4BB9141ED059A628B5B87B&selectedIndex=2:

You've got yourself a steel string guitar.

If you've got nylon strings, then your best bet is to buy nylon strings:

...and if steel string, then something like this:

This is all on the assumption that your Franciscan has a big hole under the strings.
If it's solid, then go for electric guitar strings. As for the sixth string, the sixth string is the thinnest string in the pack. Although it would be worth replacing them all as the strings will probably be a bit old and tatty anyway.

The guitarists there play almost exclusively classical or Spanish-style acoustic guitars. I wasn't sure before I went, so I brought some metal and some nylon strings. The nylon ones were far and away more appreciated, as most of the musicians who I encountered didn't have much use for the metal strings (what most strumming guitarists in Western music use). You'll want to look for sets labeled "tie end", as "ball end" strings didn't seem to be as common (though they can still be used). Here are a few options on Amazon:

One

Two

Three

There are some more options at varying price levels, but those are for sure safe bets. If you have a Guitar Center or local music shop nearby there will absolutely be somebody knowledgeable there who can help you if you're still stuck. I promise that whatever you bring will be much appreciated!

That's an intonation issue which is not adjustable on acoustics, without replacing or reshaping the bridge saddle.

Also, note that different string gauges will give varying intonations. If you restring with lower or higher tension strings than what the saddle is cut for, it will likely lead to intonation problems. You might try using the same strings that the manufacturer shipped the guitar with.

8 lbs 7 oz. - a perfect weight!

Sorry to hear you are on bedrest :( I was too and it made me crazy, I had ants in the pants constantly (isn't that an expression?), I will be happy for you when its over and you are holding your angel!

Not ridiculous but will bring joy to my life, new guitar strings

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm not really savvy on 3/4 guitars, but D'Addario makes sets specifically for those.

At $1 I would say you're fine with that one, by the way. ;) My own classical isn't really anything to write home about either, but it gets the job done.

Ninja edit: Amazon has a variety of affordable tuners as well. It might be a good investment if you're entirely inexperienced.

Maybe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QXRH9RG is what I should have bought. Thank you for pointing me in that direction. Now I'm left wondering what I bought is! "Hybrid Composite G" Thank you for your time.

u/ForbieSs · 1 pointr/Guitar

I usually swear by d'addario. Doesnt break the bank and lasts quite awhile. I maybe change my strings every 6 months after normal use, but its just so the tone sounds brand new. I usually swear by these two for nylon

  • Flamenco

  • Normal

These are my personal opinions, however. Do some research! There are some guys out there that can tell you every pro and con!

Its also been popular to string nylon guitars with Carbon strings! They give a brighter tone (i believe?) And can be found here

Lots of guys over at the local shop have recently been swearing over Titanium strings which to me is almost an inbetween from carbon to nylon

Hey, sorry to bother again, I was gonna buy the strings but its labeled as "plus product" and I need to put up to 20 euros in amazon products to receive it, so I looked for more on normal/medium tension and found these 2: 1 and 2 for around the same price as the one you linked, would they be alright? Are there any else to look at maybe?

u/doomed_wizard · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yes for that kind you would use nylon strings (that's why you thought it looked like fishing line) and if you don't want to press down so much I suggest getting these I don't play classical guitar but I know those kind use nylon strings (so do not listen to people if they say to get regular steel strings) and like I said before take it to a shop and see if they can do any adjustments for you

u/bazoid · 1 pointr/translator

I am trying to buy some guitar strings on Amazon and I found this image on this product page. I had been trying to figure out what the difference is between the two types of strings pictured, and this image appears to explain, but it's in Japanese. If someone could translate it would be really helpful - thanks!

I've used these since I can remember http://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EJ45C-Pro-Arte-Composite-Classical/dp/B0002H07FY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1324589475&sr=8-5 ... Regarding string care, use a stripe of denim (from old pants or something) and just surround each string with it, and hardly run the denim along all of them. Doing this whenever you feel like it will make your strings last at least two times what they would otherwise.

Man, I don't know. But I prefer the sound of slightly dead, or at least worn, strings. I hate the way new strings sound.

In fact, I just bought a Cordoba C7 from guitar center a couple days ago. I grabbed it off the wall and played and as soon as I started I knew that I had to have it. I think that sometimes the stars align with these mass-produced guitars and everything is just right. Regardless, that thing had been hanging on the wall for who knows how long, and the strings look relatively worn. But it sounds so good. Still has such a great bass response and resonance. I'm actually afraid to put new strings on it lol.

I bought a Taylor Academy 12-N like 3 months ago (lol) and I'm probably going to get rid of it. I thought it was awesome and now it honestly pales in comparison to this Cordoba. And they're both $500 guitars. If I didn't know any better, I'd think the Cordoba cost a grand more or, easily. It sounds that good.

Back to strings - maybe you should try a different manufacturer? This Cordoba C7 came strung with Savarez 500CJ and I immediately bought two new sets on Amazon. Ironically, I don't feel like my guitar gets a good tone until two weeks or so after the strings have been more or less fully stretched and don't have that "new string sound" anymore.
