It should be fine as long as the arms are weighted such that the center of mass is lined up with the hole the clock hardware goes through (within reason, obviously). He likely got a "high torque" one, too.

And on his other reddit page he linked to his etsy, which says he used aluminum for the arms.

Dude add some battery powered clock hands to the colonel and I'd put it in my living room

You don’t need a branded key, you just need one of the right size.

If you have a reliable set of calipers, you’ll be able to get a general idea of what size key you need. Alternatively, you could try a supposedly universal key.

Got the idea from [this post] (https://www.reddit.com/r/Jeep/comments/7tje1v/i_made_this_cj7_timing_chain_into_a_clock/) and made a desk clock with the old timing set and crank pulley from the MJ. Also used some 1" iron pipe and a fitting to make the stand. The clock mechanism was $9 on amazon.

It's actually pretty easy. You can use almost any kind of drive you want. Electric, battery operated would be by far the easiest. You'd keep the case, AND the clock face. Remove the hands that came with it, remove the clockworks, then replace it with something like this $8 buck one from Amazon:

Amazon, of course. Pay attention to the shaft length (there are many to choose from) and make sure it matches the thickness of your material. Here's the one I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXWJFPW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Honestly, if you're that worried, remove the platters and buy a cheap clock unit and stick it through them. You can justify keeping it, hang it on your wall, and it still never leaves your sight.

If you want to still do the clock thing you could buy the blink vinyl record of your choosing and one of these and just DIY:

Has the added benefit of being made by you which equates to hopefully a better "response" from her.

Is the clock mechanism silent? My wall clock at the moment has one of the quartz movement mechanisms in the little black brick with an AA battery similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quartz-Movement-Mechanism-Maximum-Thickness/dp/B017LVILNI , and there's a definite tick with the second hand when the room is quiet.

I just used a generic one that I found off of Amazon, like this.

Here it is, I bought this from Amazon UK. Maybe you can get something similar.

u/godbutnot · 1 pointr/woodworking

Thankyou :), I got them off amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01L1KLY4S/ref=mp_s_a_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1511720673&sr=8-21-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=clock+mechanism&psc=1

But there are plenty other websites with all weird and wonderful styles if you need something specific

You can buy a small one. We usually use SwimOutlet but if you know any swimsuit sellers at swim meets, you can ask them if they would be able to buy something for you and most of the time they will.

Or build your own (not attempted by me)!

and put it all on cardboard or get creative!

Some are. :)

Although you need to know if its worth buying. Does the pin in the hole have a square end on it? If so, that's probably the winding hole.
