Oh man. Brace yourselves, I am a total Amazon junkie. (Note: These may not all be BIFL, but I'm responding to the OP in specific.)

  • $9 butter keeper. (I bought a slightly different one that's no longer available, but it's the same basic design.) Keeping butter that isn't for cooking or baking in the fridge is for chumps. Mine is always perfectly spreadable room temperature while staying fresh for weeks... sometimes months.

  • $9 TV antenna. I didn't own a TV until a few years ago, and it didn't have a built-in antenna. I don't watch much broadcast TV, so I grabbed the cheapest one I could find. Case in point for why digital is better than analog, this one picks up every digital channel perfectly.

  • $13 shoe rack (now $18). Over the past year of living in this flat, I'd developed a bad tendency of kicking my shoes off at the bottom of the stairs just inside the front door. This looked like a cheap piece of shit, but I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. Now almost every single pair of shoes I own is in one spot where it's easy to grab—and, more importantly, everything's out of the way of people coming in and out of the house.

  • $14 jug of earplugs (50 pair). Essential for sleeping with the window open in loud neighborhoods, sharing rooms with snoring friends on a trip, or sharing beds with snoring dudes or gals you're sleeping with. These were also my go-to earplugs for shows until I got a pair that's better for listening to music.

  • $22 electric kettle. The coffeemaker in our office puts out water that isn't nearly hot enough for a proper cuppa, and I got sick of microwaving it to boiling a mug's worth at a time. No bells and whistles, but it's performed perfectly since day one, with no breaking-in period like you get with kettles that have plastic parts in contact with the water.

  • $32 32'/10m HDMI cable. Ran it between the computer in my bedroom and the TV in my living room, allowing me to watch all kinds of streaming TV and downloaded videos with friends in a spot more comfortable than standing in front of my desk.

  • Slightly over the $50 limit, but $53 space heater. My best friend and roommate is one of those dudes who's built like a furnace, and our place uses radiators for heat. We had a few days of him sweating his ass off even with the thermostat set to 68, before I realized that we could just turn it way the hell down, and I could heat my own bedroom separately. This sucker dumps out a ton of heat, with a slew of features to sweeten the deal (my favorite being the remote control).

  • Another that's slightly over, but $55 garment steamer. Collapses small enough to fit pretty much anywhere I've ever needed to store it, puts out steam within maybe 30 seconds of turning it on, and with a full tank has enough water to steam as many items as I've ever needed to do in a row. I haven't touched my iron once since I bought this thing, and my only regret is not buying one as soon as I started college over a decade ago.

And, saving the best for last:

  • $43 heated footrest. Hands-down, this is one of the best things I've ever bought in my life. I was looking for an unobtrusive, unobnoxious way to help myself stay warm in the office, which tends to be chillier than my taste year-round. When I opened it up, I was skeptical, since it looked like a cheap injection-molded piece of shit. Now, I'm pretty sure I'd rescue it from a fire before my mother. I don't want to imagine ever trying to get through another winter without it.

    ----------

EDIT: As requested by /u/Mogrix, I posted List Part II: Electric Boogaloo, with more items from my Amazon history.

College student here, used to shitty dorm closets: If you don't mind having to iron things at the change of seasons, I like to keep off-season clothes and things I don't wear much in my suitcase. The suitcase is just sitting there taking up space anyway, and by packing it well (rolling!! roll as much as you can!!! I only fold heavy knits and sweaters) you can fit a lot into a simple carry-on. Multi-pants hangers and multi-skirt hangers are really useful for maximizing closet space, but I personally don't like multi-shirt hangers and find them incredibly inconvenient. I keep all of my jackets on an over-the-door hanger like this and use the basket (mine only has one) to hold my clutch, spare wallet, dry umbrellas, and sunglasses. On the other side of the door I have a shoe organizer that can also hold scarves and gloves and such. Honestly, seeing what college students are doing could be really good inspo for you since we live in tiny spaces with almost no closet and find a way to make it work.

rack is super modular and customizable and light, super would recommend for space and budget peeps who spent all their money on shoes instead

u/moresycomore · 28 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

We just tore out cheap, clumsy shelving in our small walk-through closet (5’ x 6’), pulled up the carpet and put down hardwood, painted over the buttercup yellow to a cool grey, put two 50” wide dressers on each side (one side for me, one for my SO), and installed a simple rod and single overhead shelf system on each side. I just received a box of 100 Amazon basics velvet hangers and little 5” deep bins for konmari-ing the dresser and top shelf. I ordered a minimalist ceiling light from Ikea and I’m picking out a tiny little rug for the space too.

It’s still small, with very little space for shoes, no space for handbags, but holy hell. It’s crazy how enamored I feel with just a NORMAL closet. I guess it’s been years and years since I’ve had access to a closet like this — no weird cubbies or awkward attic type spaces, no annoying bifold doors, no making-do with a freestanding clothing rack in the corner of the bedroom. It’s absolute heaven. I’m going to start hanging and folding clothes this weekend and I’m so excited.

This is the only before photo I have: https://imgur.com/a/L07u4tZ

We’re still not totally “after” and don’t have a decent photo to show off the new flooring, but this is where we are now in the process. It’s wild how a few small changes make a world of difference: https://imgur.com/a/QMRR8y1

u/xbutterscotchbabex · 22 pointsr/BadDragon

That’s awful :( as someone who has an extremely nosey family, I feel you. I personally would suggest going onto amazon and buying this lock box it might not be the most hidden, but it stores easily under your bed or in your closet and no one can open it unless they have the key. It fits tons of toys! I have a good 10-15 in mine. Good luck!

IRIS Metal Garment Rack with Wood Shelves, Black and Dark Brown https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075RBXB3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_g7bxDb64ABZ45

u/MableXeno · 17 pointsr/Parenting

Cull the toys, heavily. They are young and do not play with more than 1 or 2 things at a time anyway. This also gives you a chance to decide what you really WANT for them to play with. What do they need right now for development? I tend to avoid stuffed animals. They take up too much space - like one or two "favorites" like their bedtime bear and a friend for the bear. The loud plastic shit that is just a hulking piece of noise? Let it go.

For the 3-year-old, based on developmental milestones for this age I would choose:

  • A handful of small [hand size] toys (like the Little People size/style...not the big playsets just a few people/cars/animals so they can start to make up their own stories).
  • Something that encourages color and shape recognition, like shape shorters, puzzles, or just a few different colored balls or bean bags for throwing (b/c throwing is a thing for this age).
  • Something that encourages number counting and recognition...like the little pieces that connect or have numbers on them and you sort them...even alphabet and number blocks or magnets.
  • Lots of identifying stuff (like picture and board books that explain "the cow goes moo" "the duck is yellow").

That's really it. Get it all to fit in one box/bin. I'm pretty liberal with books, though...there should always be plenty.

    For a 10-month-old:

  • Things too big to swallow, but small enough to hold in the hand.
  • Things that are safe to put into the mouth (can be washed).
  • Things that make noise (beans in a water bottle could work, it doesn't have to be fancy).
  • Things that encourage trying to move (maybe something small with wheels she can crawl after if it gets pushed

My kids' toys before they were about 5 could all fit in one small box.

    For other storage and organization:

  • Over the door shoe rack - Put one of these on every door. The lowest row - put little things to occupy the baby so she can get in there without causing trouble. Store a few of her toys down there. The upper few rows are for mom and dad. Supplies that need to be available but out of the reach of kids. Things that need to be in that room - but you don't really want "out". Put a row for the older kid, too, so they can better clean up. This also helps you get things up off the floor when you need to do a quick clean. "Everything in its place" is really just about making sure you can clear the floor and surfaces quickly. Then maybe at night, you can go through the organizer and put things into the rooms where they belong or whatever. But at least it is off the floor, off the table, whatever the case is - and the pockets are clear so you can check them real quick if you're missing something.
  • More over the door stuff: towel rack and towel hooks - I hang up clothes all the time (and towels, but in the bathroom). The shirt they wore for 20 minutes before school but changed last minute, their pajamas, the smock they're SUPPOSED to wear when they paint but you can never find it, jackets, etc, whatever. For the hooks (I also install individual hooks in various places around the house - like down low near the front door so kids can put up their own crap) you can leave backpacks, hats, or put a bag to collect things like stray socks & mittens.

I also use a spare laundry basket to collect things so I can put them away later. The goal is just to get things off the floor and surfaces...and worry about putting it away later.

I vacuum my hard floors - it's just easier than sweeping. I intentionally bought a vacuum that can do carpets and hardwood. I have also taken the hose and sucked up crumbs from the table.

Ha! Joke's on you. I don't have one. :( I'm planning on getting this soon.

Maybe a shoe hanger, hung on the back of the door so that your drawers aren't on display at all times?

u/blubbermilk · 14 pointsr/travisscott

Thanks! I use these to hang them

u/DrugsAreMagic · 13 pointsr/DrugsOver30

I have 3 kids, so this is important to me. Along with a crap ton of drugs I have a healthy collection of sex toys. This is what I use to store it all https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JCZI5G

It rolls under the bed, and locks. Works great.

u/Karbear_debonair · 12 pointsr/knitting

Ooh! Look into vacuum bags! Yarn is very squishy, vacuum bags will vastly increase the carry capacity of your suitcase! If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, here's an Amazon link (non affiliate/referral/whatever, literally just searched vacuum bag) with a good description of them. There are a bunch of different brands.

In a pinch, you can do something similar with a trash bag, but it doesn't work quite as well.

u/JCMCX · 11 pointsr/maritime

Pack light. Also learn to make a skivvy roll it saves a lot of space and makes packing so much easier. You can stuff your stuff like a toothbrush, razor deodorant etc in them. My usual rule of thumb for skivvies/undershirts & underwear is 7-10 days on the longer voyages. For you, I'd pack 4 to 5. Including the pair that you're wearing that's enough to cover ~50% of the voyage and you'll most likely have the ability to wash clothes onboard. If not wearing a pair for another day probably won't kill you. I also usually bring medicine in labeled plastic bags. Stuff like cold and flu medicine, painkillers and headache medicine (non-narcotic), anti diaherria medicine, seasickness pills, allergy medication, and multivitamins. I write the name of the medicine, its purpose, and the dosage on a plastic bag. When I'm done I toss them in a skivvy roll and roll them up. Bring 2 pairs of "street clothes" make the pants different (ie one jeans, the other khaki or shorts etc) you'll be wearing these around the ship when you're not working or when you're off the ship, I usually also pack some gym shorts to lounge around the ship in or workout. Bring a towel, earplugs, and a sleeping mask. Cigarettes if you smoke.

I'd bring a flashlight (one with a clip that you can put on a hat), knife, multitool, utilikey, one to two pairs of decent workboots, spare batteries, and maybe a magnetic worklight as far as work stuff goes. Coveralls if your ship doesn't provide them. Oh and a small notebook that can fit in your pocket and 2 decent pens. A watch with a barometer is a huge plus. Bandanas/Handkerchiefs are really useful as well.

As for entertainment stuff I always bring my kindle loaded with books. You can checkout /r/FreeEbooks for free books or you can always acquire some #Bookz on the undernet. If you had a switch I'd bring it. I usually bring a laptop that has all my movies and games on it. You can buy a little strip of slip resistant matting that you can place under your laptop. I've only had seas that rough once where I'd ever really need it, but better safe than sorry. A harddrive is good too, at least 1 TB.

On miscellaneous things I bring, I bring a closet shoe organizer on board like the one linked. I use that to organize a lot of my clothes and save space. I used a sharpie to mark out spots for stuff like socks, underwear, etc. But you can always fit a skivvy roll in there. I usually use the upper row for stuff like my EDC, and my medicine storage so the door doesn't hit the top. I also might bring a USB fan, paracord, and a plugin USB hub. I'll use the paracord to suspend the fan next to my face to blow on me. I'll also use it to adjust the pocket organizer.

Some packing tips are to wear your boots to the ship, sneakers are much easier to pack.

Since this is an internship I'll assume you want to be hired on later. Ask tons of questions, work hard, be sociable and likeable, and never be late. I know plenty of hardworking guys everybody hates because they're dickbags. When I first started I was a little lazy and incompetent but everybody liked me because I was sociable and not a dick and at least tried. You can be lazy, or a dick, not both.

Edit: QoL stuff is pretty nice, stuff such as a blanket, hydro flask, or seasoning is pretty nice to have sometimes. During a particularly cold voyage I had a thick heavy fuzzy blanket which was awesome. Having ice cold water when you're in a 160 degree engine room can be pretty nice. Some lawry's seasoning salt when your cook sucks is always welcomed.

Edit 2: SUNGLASSES. PACK A PAIR OF POLARIZED SUNGLASSES. The reflection off the water can be pretty intense sometimes.

I like this shelf for storing most of my shoes, i clipped off the hanging door part and just screwed it into a wall:

https://smile.amazon.com/Whitmor-Over-Rack-36-36-Pair-White/dp/B0019FOUQ0/ref=sr_1_10?crid=3IQ48DCP4SSQJ&keywords=hanging+shoe+organizer&qid=1556836083&s=gateway&sprefix=hanging+shoe+%2Caps%2C180&sr=8-10

However my three fanciest pairs of shoes do live in their shoebox full time. I like to keep them in boxes to keep them clean, and I always know where they are. Everything else goes on the rack.

u/rawr_domo · 10 pointsr/Sneakers

They make locking boxes for CDs (with folders) and other uses. They are big enough for a fair collection. They make empty boxes too. Get one. These are cheaper than a firesafe.

I made this. The dimensions aren’t perfect but might help see a different way. https://imgur.com/a/XHTquaV so just some thoughts. Move things up walls for space. The glass enclosed dresser doesn’t look easily used. Move the desk over into the corner and move the tall dresser were the glass front one is. The chest and case on it are rough and not very functional. I’d get them out at least while figuring everything out. If you can add shelves or cubes above your side table that would add space. They would need to be screwed in. If you can’t then skip that. Hanging laundry baskets or use a shelf with a couple storage bins to toss laundry in. Depending on measurements possibly something like this on the glass front furniture. C&AHOME Cube Storage Organizer, 8- Cube DIY Plastic Closet Cabinet, Modular Book Shelf Organizer Units, Storage Shelving Ideal for Bedroom Living Room Office with Doors, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFHW6LK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_fX7RDbR8FS51M shelves with storage cubes, containers or such is another option. Add shelves above the desk. Again bins, tubs, cubes even paper organizers can be used. Dollar stores can give extra options. Don’t consider things exclusive. I needed a closed container to hold chopsticks. I bought a pasta container. Think about how to move things up. Think about how you like things for ease. I like doors but for example some cubes come with or without drawers. Under the bed- I’d consider it storage. It doesn’t look convenient day to day. Under there you want to put this. DampRid FG60FS Moisture Absorber, Fresh Scent, 10.5-Ounce, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBLW1MQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_L37RDb41XX5VS put reminders in your phone and empty it every few days until you know how much water it absorbs. You replace the crystals every so often. Keep it away from pets. Damp rid will grab tons of moisture but while you’re checking everything out make sure you don’t see signs of a pipe leak. Mold, soft walls, moisture and bad smells pay attention to. Other type cube options but not this brand ClosetMaid 8937 Cubeicals Organizer, 9-Cube, Espresso https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UU0NJW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_G87RDbVTHK1NV

Whitmor Storage Cubes - Stackable Interlocking Wire Shelves - Black (Set of 6) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ELALZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Y77RDbMDF1414

There’s also things like this if you have space. SIMPDIY Portable Shoe Rack Storage Organizer Shoe Box Storage System with Doors, Shoes,Accessories - Black (2x6 with Boots Cube 93x126x108cm/37x15x50In) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZ6K548/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_3-7RDbVY3FSB5

Don’t forget what you choose should work for you. So even something like kids toy storage might work better for some. Like this. Tot Tutors WO498 Elements Collection Wood Toy Storage Organizer, X-Large, Grey/Blue/Green/Yellow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07638ZJQY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_.b8RDb5P0ZMB6 or this Delta Children Deluxe Multi-Bin Toy Organizer with Storage Bins , Grey/Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PY2ZGS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Gc8RDb9CTVC9T there’s stuff like this. LANMOK 3pcs Hanging Mesh Storage Basket Foldable Space Saving Toy Organizer with 3pcs S Hooks for Kids Room Bathroom Wall Balcony Wardrobe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9VBKW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_yd8RDbW8NAFWA

Basically storage needs to go up. Bed drawers don’t work in large rooms so use for storage. Put damp rid out. Make sure no leaks. For me the idea is enclosed. Choose what works for you. Don’t forget if the idea of doors on storage cubes don’t work for you that you can use a curtain to cover it if you don’t want others to see. The idea is finding what works for you. If you move things and have a wall space open buy taller items. I’ve been redoing a smaller space so feel free to ask if you need some other suggestions.

Edit another idea is move that wood dresser to the window like in diagram, glass one next to it and cubes where the wood one is now.

Just got the Kallax on the right (black friday sale), had ~550 records crammed into the shelves on the left before.

The shelves on the left are these type http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O1APF0 I don't live near an IKEA and up until recently they did not offer affordable shipping, so these have worked great for me. pricier than the Kallax though, and really no better made.

OP you've got this!

You can totally just do a mini-crib and they are suuuper cute, affordable, and you can usually use them as long as a standard sized crib.

Here's some cute ideas I saw that you might like.

I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with my in-laws and my sister-in-law so I feel you so much. My husband and I just have our little bedroom and bathroom that is "ours".

I've utilized lots of little space-saving tools and ideas:

  • I got rid of any unused furniture, items, or pieces of clothing. These are just wasted space! Get rid of them. Donate them or sell them for some extra cash.

  • I'm using a crib with a changing table attached. It doesn't take up too much space. My crib also has storage under the changing table portion and under the actual crib. So I can store blankets, clothes, whatever I need to here!

  • I got a shoe rack like this one that hangs on the inside of my closet door. This way our shoes are off the floor and hanging in a space that wasn't previously being used.

  • I have floating shelves like these so you can store extra stuff on them either in the bedroom, bathroom, over the changing table, etc!
u/offspringfreak · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

So, I'm moving out (27. First time ever. It's complicated.) and might be taking a room (10*11 ft' maybe?) that doesn't have a closet. Any recommendations on sturdy, functional clothing racks? I started eyeing this one and this last night

Any other feedback to economizing space and best arranging is also more than welcome!

I have moved countries 4 times now. What I usually do is sell off as much as I can to have money to buy the basics in a new country/state.

Like that I save on cost of transporting furniture and so on and instead invest that into things like a sofa bed and table, kitchen stuff.

It’s not easy but it avoids unnecessary costs.

Basics I try to buy fast are:
Sofa bed or a good air mattress (Amazon has pretty good ones for under $100, I have this one air mattress ) - if you can buy a sofa bed as it doubles way better as sofa to sit on during the day sofa ikea has good options sofa bed
Foldable table (again amazon, they are height adjustable and I can use them as table to prep food, dinner table and couch table , I usually buy 2) table

Most apartments in the US come with walk-in closets so that’s a great plus if not you can get pretty cheap roller wardrobes. A friend of mine has this wardrobe

It’s not much but it helps for the first few months and then over time when you have more money you start buying things like a proper bed, desk and so on.

I always prioritize kitchen appliances as I love cooking and will move the better ones I have but then buy cheap plates and so on.

Hope this helps to get an idea of what’s possible on a smaller budget

Ehh on the wire hangers. I use them for my silk camisoles and cotton button ups since the camisoles don't have much fabric on the shoulders to mess them up, and the cotton shirts are less likely to get damaged as well from them. As long as you aren't hanging up knits, it's not that big of a deal.

That said, I have several types of hangers in my closet. AmazonBasics Velvet Suit Hangers - 50 Pack, Black, ate what u have the most of and ive never had a problem with them. The other type is the super padded stuffed hangers and those are for my delicate dresses but idk if they're worth it.

I'm shit scared of spiders too, but have you heard of spider catchers? WARNING-there is a picture of a spider in the link.

I got one for Christmas a few years back, and while I'm still scared of them, the fact that I have a tool to deal with them has really helped reduce my phobia. I can now actually pick up the smaller ones myself, and for the larger ones I have the spider catcher. Don't know if it would help, but it might be worth a try.

I haven't seen it in plastic yet but they exist for about 15$ already. So their 35$ price should probably come down. And 75k sounds reasonable to launch a product to me.

u/wow-so-tacky · 6 pointsr/guineapigs

I would suggest a C&C cage as they are very customizable and relatively cheap. A 2x4 C&C cage is pretty standard for two pigs. If you don't mind a bit of DIY work, you could build the same cage yourself for about 60% of the cost, as well as make it larger at 2x5. It's quite easy to do.

$23.49 - Set of 23 Grids and Connectors

$22.98 - 48"x96" Sheet of Coroplast (Should be available in-store to avoid shipping costs)

Your choice of bedding. C&Cs cages are often paired with fleece.

Another option would be a Midwest Habitat which is slightly smaller than a 2x4 C&C but acceptable. You could also link 2 of them together for more space.

Also, here's a pretty in depth video (The C&C part starts at 3:44) by LA Guinea Pig Rescue about various types of cages. They also use and recommend C&C cages.

Do you have room on the back of the door to hang something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D58DRVC/ref=psdc_11601917011_t1_B000IXOH7G

It doesnt give you more counter space but at least it provides storage.

Another potential option would be really tall shower tension caddy that you can place in the corner:

https://www.amazon.com/Zenna-2130NN-Tension-Corner-Nickel/dp/B004EPXKKE/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1491227346&sr=1-5&keywords=shower+caddy

u/SmileFirstThenSpeak · 6 pointsr/declutter

She has to be on board with the decluttering, and it’s best if you help her do it rather than doing it for her. If she just has too much stuff, some of it does have to go. Things worth keeping might be best stored in another room if it doesn’t fit in her room, but it’s likely that at least some of it should be thrown out.

In looking for more room to store things, look up and look down. Tall bookcases or shelves. Shelves above the door, window, closet. Under the bed.

Also consider space on the inside of the door. Get a hanging shoe organizer to hang on the door. Lots of small things can be put in the pockets (get mesh or clear plastic so it’s easy to see contents). I’m imagining lots of makeup stored that way would work.

u/Shovelbum26 · 6 pointsr/Teachers

I actually think having them out in the open but inaccessible is the best solution. I have a hanging shoe organizer that I call "cell phone jail". When I have to take a phone, I actually have the student put it in there (so they're in control of placing it). The thing is transparent so they can see the phone the whole time and know where it is. I think that makes them feel a little more comfortable with it.

I work in a Title I school and a student's phone is without a doubt the most expensive thing they own, and may be the most expensive thing in their home, so I understand their stress around it and try to accommodate that, but they definitely can't have it out in class.

u/SizeableRansom · 5 pointsr/Buyingforbaby

I purchased a door organizer similar to this to keep many baby items organized. i.e. things like diaper creams, thermometers and snappis.

Hi and welcome. To save myself some time, I'm going to copy/paste. So, some tips. If you haven't, check out Guinea Lynx to get great information on guinea pigs and guinea pig care.

If you are looking for a cage, I usually recommend Midwest Habitat or you can find a C&C at Guinea Pig Cages Store. You can also build your own C&C using these Grid Shelving Pieces, and purchasing the coroplast at either a sign shop, big box home improvement store, or order online.

Guinea pigs need a friend, a roomy cage, plain, boring, green food pellets (since these are young pigs under six months of age, they'll also need Alfalfa hay & Alfalfa hay-based food), fresh veggies, and fresh water.

I'll put some additional tips & tricks next, as a way to get them comfortable with you. If you have any questions, please let me know.

So, these are just some general suggestions to get things started. This subreddit is a bit deceptive because you see piggies who are happy & comfortable in their settings. It certainly does not start out in that manner. You're in the "long game" for now, and with patience and practice, you'll start seeing some progress in a month or two.

  1. Put them on a schedule. They'll figure it out soon enough, and will come to the cage edge to see you.
  2. Guinea pigs love food, so the fastest way to their heart is via their tummies. Whenever you see them, have snacks available. Make sure the pieces are small, as they are small critters, and you want them to come back for more. In the beginning, start simple. Offer small pieces of Romaine or bell pepper (start with green, then in two weeks introduce a different color). Sit near their cage, talk to them, let them smell you, give them a chance to get to know you.
  3. Lap time. Use a cuddle sack to collect them from the cage. Collect one pig, transfer to a towel or blanket, go get the second pig. For as long as they need, have lap time be a "together" activity. They'll be more content if they have a friend. During lap time, offer something very special - like parsley or cilantro. While they munch, you figure out how they like to be touched, as each pig has different preferences. Do they like chin rubs? Cheek rubs/massages? Nose rubs/massages? Forehead rubs/massages? Most pigs do not like being touched on their backend, so keep that in mind.
  4. Floor time. Floor time is a great way for them to get some good exercise, and also for you to participate. The easiest way is for you to sit on the floor with them during floor time. Offer their usual snacks, so they come to you. Eventually they should climb onto your lap to say "hi" and get a snack from you. For floor time, you can protect your floors/carpet by using a layered system - put down a shower curtain liner, on top of it (depending upon how long floor time will last) you can put down some puppy training pads, and then towels or blankets. If it is less than an hour of floor time, you can skip the puppy training pads and just use towels or blankets. If you want them to run more, don't put down any pigloos, hideys, or boxes. Allow them to get comfortable with floor time before adding those features so they get the idea they are supposed to move around and not hide. Other things you can try - paper bags (my girls pee/poo in paper bags, so I don't usually give these to them), oatmeal containers with the bottom cut out, toilet paper rolls stuffed with timothy hay, etc. You want to give them some sensory experiences just keep in mind they'll chew on stuff, so don't give them anything potentially dangerous.

Keep in mind that they will respond to whatever you call them. I have a pig named "Mocha" but from early on we called her "Mo-Mo" and that is now the name to which she responds. Yes, your piggies will eventually learn their names and come when you call them. Good luck! If you have questions, you can post on the subreddit, on the chat, or feel free to DM me. We want you to be successful. :)

For kitchenware of all kind, I'd recommend a goodwill-type store. Cheap and quirky.

Personally, a table and 2 chairs would be nice for work/homework/dinner. I got a folding set at Target for $40 a while back; I have a nicer wooden set from craigslist for $60 now.

From experience, you're better off buying a real mattress for comfort. People can sit on it when they visit, especially if you have some cushions that make it appear a seating area during the day. I am perfectly happy with the mattress on the floor, no boxsprings or frame, but having it higher off the ground would make it more comfortable for seating during the day.

Do you need a dresser? If you have a good-sized closet, you may be able to use something like this instead for anything you can't put on hangers -- I found some for around $5 at Target recently.

One of those plastic over the door shoe storage things. Then glue gun or velcro a line in the middle of each compartment to make extra compartments. You can store multiple earings together. Organize each section by metal type, color, beading, material, etc.

Consider something like this, that you can hang within your own reach. (NOT his reach, or it will be emptied in the first minute of the trip!)

http://www.amazon.ca/Over-Door-Clear-Organizer-Storage/dp/B000IXOH7G

Fill each pocket with a different activity/toys/snacks. Go to the dollar store and stock up on things like sticker books, crayons/pad of paper, mini cars, bouncy balls, anything that might keep his interest for awhile that doesn't require your supervision.

I recently did a 12 hour flight with my 2.5 year old (and 4 month old daughter). The very best thing I brought with me (other than the iPad) in terms of entertaining him was a ziplock bag full of miniature cars each individually wrapped in painters tape. Yes it was a bitch to clean up after (lots of little scraps of painters tape stuck to everything in arms reach) but every one of them brought happy "oooooh" "wow" "woah" comments, and bought about ~10 minutes of unwrapping time, plus at least 20 minutes of happily rolling them around on things. So yeah, painters tape!

Also, get external battery chargers for the tablet and the 3ds. (Like this one for example. Http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Pak-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJA7L6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361147770&sr=8-1&keywords=battery+pack+3ds

Not specifically a shower tip, but we find it's handy that when you're sharing a room with several people to bring one of those over-the-door shoe holders pic at Amazon which makes it easy to keep everyone's shampoos, brushes, etc out of the way.

u/AzulSkyy · 3 pointsr/cats

The target set (made by closetmaid) has two kinds of panels, one has a wider grill of 5x5 holes while the other has a tighter grid of about 8x8. A can't fit through either, but the tighter grid one makes for a better shelf for the cat to sit on.

There's a set on amazon by whitmore that's about $20 a set, but the picture makes it look like its all the tighter grid.

u/MizzChnandlerBong · 3 pointsr/Sneakers

If you have the space, the best things are these ! They’re cheaper than an additional cage, and you can kinda build your own shape out of the different sections. Over the door everything. It's not the most visually appealing look, but it's the best way to maximize your storage space. My personal favorites are the shoe rack and the bathroom organizer. Spend the money for the good ones, not the cheap vinyl shoe bags.

u/wackybones · 3 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Taller and slimmer laundry basket, and for the clothes up on the top shelf you could try putting them in one of these hanging shelves and storing bigger items on the shelf, such as suitcases, extra pillows, or the sewing machine. I would also consider a laundry basket with a lid to keep any odor contained in the dirty clothes, and not sinking into the fabric of your clean clothes.

If you don't like the look of those hanging shelves, you could try replacing your plastic drawers with this style of furniture that you can often find on craigslist or at a thrift store if you don't want to buy new. Obviously double check the dimensions of it to make sure it would fit. Then you can store things in a square basket and it keeps things feeling and looking tidy.

The towels could also be hung on over the door hooks to keep the doors from getting damp.

u/kds405 · 3 pointsr/rutgers

You won't have room for anything extra other than perhaps a fan (definitely bring one) and a lamp (again bring one). Get something like this for your closet. Did you have anything specific you wanted to bring?

u/sneaky_dragon · 3 pointsr/declutter

If you have room for a shallow bin or two, you can fold underwear and socks so that they are filed and easy to grab. It just takes more effort beforehand. I recently reorganized my drawers this way and it freed up so much space and made everything more organized.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Dg0g2OPRg4

Another idea is to have these hanging shelves somewhere: http://www.amazon.com/Whitmor-6351-1234-JAVA-Organizer-Collection-Accessory/dp/B001KMRZ0U/

You can buy bins and then consequently organize your underwear and shirts like the previous video shown.

Lots of good tips here already! My personal ones are;

  • Skinny velvet hangers - I have these from Amazon. They make a surprising difference.
  • Fold tops, pants, skirts, workout clothes the Konmari way - like this. - you can see everything at a glance and I find it to fit things a bit better.
  • Underwear and socks - I found out that I was hoarding them like crazy for no reason. I do laundry once a week so I don't need 20 pairs of underwear or 30 pairs of socks. I kept 10 pairs of undies, 5 bras (sports bras not included) and 10 pairs of socks (thicker sport ones, no show, normal...).
  • If hanging stuff up on hangers, layer them if possible! I hang two or three cardigans on top of one another, I hang one blazer on top of another. Lighter fabric work trousers also get hung in doubles and triples.
  • If you have an inside door or the back of the wardrobe (some have the rail very forward leaving you some space in the back actually) you can hang up something like this storage to keep your workout clothes/camis/rolled up jeans/scarves in. Might be a bit harder to get to if you have to slide clothes out of the way but worth it. Otherwise of course easily accessible in a door.
  • Rail organisers as another user shared.
  • Storage bins with wheels under a bed if possible - easy for shoes or bulky things like sweaters or loungewear/pjs. If they have wheels they're at least easy to pull out.

Other than that, keep an eye on the clothes you have and what you wear. Even if at first assessment you think you need to keep things, if you never wear them you can put them in storage to see if they're missed before donating. Also vacuum bags are great for storing off-season clothes. I just packed the last of my bulky winter wear up last weekend.
u/atllauren · 3 pointsr/Atlanta

If you have a small closet, these hangers save a lot of space. The velvet on them keeps clothes from slipping, but they are super thin compared to regular plastic hangers and save space. There are also hangers where you can hang like 5 pair of pants on 1 hanger which is a great space saver.

u/urbanplowboy · 3 pointsr/DIY

u/petielvrrr · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Over the door shoe racks are literally the best for organizing everything.

Or, you can get one of those sterilite drawer things and label the drawers accordingly.

u/adhoc_lobster · 2 pointsr/Rabbits

You can also make a climbing tower for your rabbit out of those metal storage cubes. Like these. One of those cubes is perfect jump-able rabbit height. I cover up the platforms with cheap carpet squares.

u/BeachBumHarmony · 2 pointsr/rutgers

My best additional storage at Rutgers were these things: https://www.amazon.com/Whitmor-Storage-Cubes-Stackable-Interlocking/dp/B000LRBSFI

I had some in my closet and under my bed. You can configure them in anyway you need.

The mesh part is probably just a storage cube set. I did the same thing with my bunny.

The teal panels are also storage cubes, I've seen the exact same ones at Walmart. The storage cube option gives you more flexibility in designing their little home. If you have no Walmart I'm sure stores with college dorm essentials will stock them for real cheap.

Storage Cubes, twistie ties, and binder clips! I've been using this set up for years, and never a problem except -

Only once has a bun ever broke out (and that was this guy); the night before something outside frightened him and he flipped out for a bit and pushed one panel out of the clip and I didn't notice. I got home from work the next day and he was chillin' under the coffee table.

u/lauraporah · 2 pointsr/guineapigs

Just looked on Amazon and they have the same exact 14 grids for $19.99! And free shipping. Definitely check those out!

u/whiterabbit108 · 2 pointsr/guineapigs

So I know this requires spending a bit of money, but you or your friend could buy a pack of these grids and then use a shower curtain (which you could buy from a dollar store, or really cheap at walmart) to build the base instead of coroplast. You'd have to spend $20, but you may be able to find a pack of grids even cheaper at a store like Target.

u/pumpupthejams · 2 pointsr/simpleliving

We have some of those shelves where it's just a series of metal grids with plastic joints and you can assemble them however you want. Instead of all cubes, one part is two cubes high to hang clothes in. The rest you can just stack cubes as high as you want. I like how they break down for easy moving. Like these, except I've found them newish in the box at a thrift store for much cheaper.

u/FelisEros · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I hate hate hate spiders and there are so many in the landen I'm worried they might get in my house :(

I also really want this Because sometimes when I'm not with my boyfriend I just need a cuddle

u/Haelx · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

It's tame compared to some things in this thread, but for me it's the day my arachnophobia turned from "simple dislike of spiders" tu full blown phobia.

I was visiting a cave in Madagascar with my family. We had to go up some stairs and a ladder then walk bent in half because the cave was at the top of a rock formation, and the ceiling wasn't high. It was dark, and the guide had the only flash light. He was showing us things by pointing it to them. So he shows us insects, then bats on the ceiling, and then a HUGE spider on the wall. I didn't expect it at all, I started to cry hard, had trouble breathing, was shaking, etc. My mom had to guide me to the ladder and stairs because I couldn't see anything through my tears and I wasn't breathing right. Of course we saw another spider on our way back down. I sat there for an hour trying to calm down. I honestly thought I was going to die, bent un half in that tiny dark cave, I couldn't breathe. Since that event, I have similar reactions when I see a spider unexpectedly (I'm "okay" with seeing a small one in a garden where it's supposed to be, but if I see one in my house I panic again). The helplessness is awful, but what's really hard is to know that it's irrational, yet I still can't breathe. Anyway, the only thing that helps is a spider catcher, a stupid tool that's actually so helpful. It makes me feel calmer, like I have a weapon, a way to defend myself. It's all in my head, but at least last time I had a spider in my home, it only took 15 minutes to calm down instead of an hour.

u/ana3d · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I keep them in my closet on the floor, with my built-in shelf, but my house is almost entirely hardwood. I take them off as soon as I get inside anyways I carry them around.

Have you considered one of those shoe organizes that hangs on the back of a door?

u/WithLinesOfInk · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

We have 1 closet to share between two people- me and my husband. I hang dresses and skirts there. I have a door-mounted shoe rack on the back of the bedroom door, and hooks for purses, scarves, belts and jewelry on the walls in the bedroom. I have a single 3-drawer dresser for pants, shirts, cardigan and, underwear, and my nighstand is a tiny 2-drawer dresser for pajamas and leggings. Our bed has drawers under it where I store some of the sillier things like halloween costume pieces, or holiday gear, as well as bulky things like snow jackets. I had to downsize by about half when I moved into this place and I've never looked back!

u/scooberty · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

Get a metal frame that sits up high. Put stuff you own under it, in a closet (clothes in a hanging dresser) or on an end table. Throw out everything else.

If you don't want a small room to feel cluttered you have to have less shit :D

u/superclr · 2 pointsr/knitting

Cheap and efficient solution if you have some spare closet space, one of these hanging shelf things. I live in a condo with limited space but a surprisingly large closet and have my yarn on one of those, works like a charm.

u/Babymicrogrower · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

I used one of these:

Whitmor Double Rod Freestanding Closet Heavy Duty Storage Organizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DGM4IU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_e6XBCbZHMCP4N

And put it together so the bottom rack was higher up and suspended a rack for a drop tray. I use a disposable foil baking dish to catch the runoff. There's a nice space underneath for my humidifier and storage (hopefully a clone set up eventually) and a rack on top for my carbon filter and fan. The light hangs from the coat rack with a solid 4' of growing space. If you DM me I'll send you a picture of what it looks like!

u/Panoramic_Vacuum · 2 pointsr/hockeygoalies

I got this unit to store gear in my basement.

I have an adjacent workbench that I set a box fan on top of and aim it at the rack to dry the gear. Nothing touches the floor, and I can store a full set of gear including leg pads, plus room for another set of gloves and a spare helmet.

u/missjennyy · 2 pointsr/teenmom

I used to have a floordrobe but I invested in this and it was seriously worth it. It's easy to put everything away and frees up my closet for (desperately needed) storage.

I just picked up this one from Amazon, mainly because it was highly rated by TheWirecutter. I’m pretty happy with it. Solid construction, can be put together in several configurations for different sizes of shoes/boots (especially if you get the two-pack). The width will fit three pairs of men’s shoes or boots on each level.

u/Non_Non_Non_Heinous · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

This shoe rack seems to be popular here (I've seen people ask about it often when small collections using it are posted) can be stackable, and doesn't break the bank.

Not sure of the budget, but another idea might be a sneaker cleaning set (brushes, wipes, and solution) from brands like Jason Markk or Crep, etc. ($30-$50 range)

u/cjsenecal · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I hang all my tops and dress pants. Jeans, chinos, shorts, underwear, and socks are folded in drawers.

I have this tie and belt rack and three of these shoe racks.

u/AwesomeAndy · 2 pointsr/goodyearwelt

I have some of these and if you set up the shelves right, you can get two rows that fit boots per rack.

Just Amazon's cheap ones. The good thing about this one is that you could stack them as many as you want. A bit tricky with high tops tho (only top level can hold high tops). So if you have a lot of high tops I suggest getting something else. As for size, I wear 9.5. So i think it should be fine for size up to 12~13? I mean if you don't mind the rears of your shoes sticking out a little bit, you can put in whatever sizes you want.

u/Subishgirl · 2 pointsr/BDSMAdvice

They make thin, under bed locking tubs, like this: https://www.amazon.com/ECR4Kids-Lock-Portable-Under-Bed-Personal/dp/B005JCZI5G

Since they are thinner they might be better than a deeper trunk.

u/TrashPickles · 2 pointsr/BadDragon

I have two of these for my toys:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JCZI5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Relatively flat, so they fit under a standard bed, enough space to fit a good chunk of toys, and easily lockable.

u/fluttershy123 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. Shoe rack

  2. It would be really helpful because I let my puppy wander around my house and he tends to steal shoes. My households shoes are on the floor by the door currently. It's easy for my puppy to get a hold of them. He bites them and runs away. If you get close to him he will just start running away from you. It gets annoying at times. Since my puppy is short, I would place the shoes on the highest shelves, preventing him from grabbing them and chewing on them.

  3. My favorite color is blue!

u/kharlos · 2 pointsr/EtherMining

I wanted something even cheaper and so I bought a bunch of these:

I can think of a few things that were useful for me (I'm trying not to duplicate):

  • Shoe Organizer - I hung mine on the back of my closet door and stored things in there other than shoes (such as my hairbrush)

  • Bed Risers - With these I was able to put full boxes of things under my bed

  • Mattress Protector - I don't know how many people slept on the mattress in the dorms before me, so this gave me a lot of comfort. Mine was padded, too, so it made my bed super comfy!

Check amazon for "corner shelves"

Else, Bathroom corner shelf

If you have little counter space, your only option is up. A corner shelf might just work wonderfully.

If your bathroom has a closet, expand on it's storage with a shoe storage unit. You don't have to use those for shoes! Good luck.

u/Heyoz · 1 pointr/Rabbits

I use these to make my pens, though they won't work great as dividers (atleast not straight dividers) as they need a bend in them to keep them from folding over.

u/Vegetabull · 1 pointr/microgrowery

https://smile.amazon.com/Whitmor-6070-1723-Storage-Cubes-Black/dp/B000LRBSFI

u/SugarSugarBee · 1 pointr/gifs

the easiest way I found was "bunny proofing" anywhere that absolutely needs to have cords, like behind the tv. And keeping other cords out of reach when not in use, like laptop cords and phone chargers.

Behind the TV or anywhere we don't want the bunny to access, we lined the wall with NIC Cubes. These are sold to build little shelves out of, but they are PERFECT for zip-tying together as a barrier to cords, bookshelves (my buns chew on my books), or anything else. I also made their pen out of them, since they're so customizable. This is an earlier pen, but I have since re-arranged it.

/r/rabbits has a lot of good links on how to bun-proof your home and troubleshoot specific issues!

u/genivae · 1 pointr/crochet

I like the fact that they're modular so I can add more as my collection grows.

u/BitterSonOfAbraham · 1 pointr/vinyl

You could consider these. They're cheap and free to ship (and if you have Prime, it's free 2 day shipping). I have two of them (in Espresso, which looks pretty good) and they do a great job. The nooks are a good size so they can hold a fair amount of records.

If you do a good job of bracing the two units together, you should end up with a stable storage unit. The most appealing part, in my opinion, is that you can expand the shelving space as your collection grows. If you ever fill out one of the shelves, you can buy another matching unit and they'll still be cohesive.

I have two of the dual cube units and I'm very happy with them. I plan to add another so I can take my turntable off of the receiver. Having six cubes for storage and display should be plenty of space with room to grow.

It's something to consider, at least. At this price, they're tough to beat. I'm happy with mine and I think most people would enjoy them, as well.

Here's a shot of my turntable stand with two of the shelving units mentioned above. I think they look pretty nice, especially in person. The camera phone didn't do it much justice. Once I add the third one I can unstack the turntable and receiver and still keep the elevated side nook as a display for the current record playing and for headphone storage.

---

Edit: I just realized that you said that you want 4x4. That would become quite costly to do it this way and stability may become an issue, depending on how you arrange them.

A little blurb about me: I am in undergrad right now studying clinical psychology and theatre (performance and technical theatre). I have a dog named Leo and he's kind of a buttface, but I love him. He's a shitzu. I go to school in a different state so I'm only home for three months a year (which can actually be too much). I really love to boil a Potato and then put Sriracha on it. u/kilamumster · 1 pointr/Frugal

I'm probably in the minority here, but I am not a huge fan of these systems, as there is so much wasted space! I have no problem putting a dresser in a closet. We have 4-drawer dressers in two bedroom closets.

All of our current closets and pantry came fitted with basic Closet Maid wire shelving, and that's fine with me. We have canvas or fabric sweater and shoe organisers and some boxes that fit in the sweater one. I use banker's boxes or plastic storage bins on the upper shelves. I also make use of doubling rods, basically a short closet rod on two long hooks, so shirts can be hung on upper and lower rods.

btw, if you are set on a closet-shelving system, check your lease, and verify that you can remove it when you leave. Some leases require that anything attached to the walls becomes the property of the landlord. This protects them from having huge holes left in the walls.

If that is the case, be sure that the system you choose will leave only clips attached, which you would leave behind while taking all the expensive pieces with you!

u/catalope · 1 pointr/knitting

I have the same philosophy as you both. I have one giant reusable bag with my stash in it and frankly, I feel like it is too damn much. I plan on buying something similar to this to organize it so I can see it and organize it by weight because it really bugs me having it all crammed together. (Thanks to whoever it was that recently posted the idea!) In the past month I've gone on a couple of trips and of course I had to buy some yarn; I bought some pretties without a project in mind and now it is really bugging me. What if I find the perfect project for it but I didn't buy enough?! What if I only need one skein and now I have two? I don't want matchy things and I don't to give away gifts that are hand-wash only. Sigh. Life is so hard.

That way I have a place to put all of the papers as they come in and don't end up leaving them all over the tables/counters/everywhere else!
  • Stacking drawers for small things like notebooks, pens, other small stuff you're always losing. I'm using mine for my school badge and clinical notepad/pen right now, as well as bobby pins/hair ties and little alcohol prep pads.
  • When all else fails, BASKETS! :D

Hopefully some of that will help! :)

I have something like this in my room, which is good for storage and pretty cheap. Look at the customer review images for some good ideas and inspiration!

This is good for organizing stuff in your kitchen cabinets.

I need either this shoe rack because we need something that will fit into a cubby and I am tired of our shoes being everywhere in the house, or these potholders since we're down to just one and I am positive I am going to drop a dish full of food one day with just the terrible one we have.

Here. You just need to not include the middle shelf and you have space for high tops. They are also stackable.

Love this thing: rolling under bed safe with a cable lock to lock to your bed frame. Kids have asked what it is I we said don’t worry about it. I’ve been meaning to empty it, fill with random stuff and show them “ok you get to see once what’s in there.

Happy birthday! It really drives me crazy cause it seems like I am constantly picking up someone's shoes.

u/fae925 · 1 pointr/crochet

LOL.

It depends on yarn and space and money available.... I would send photos, but I don't have any. I keep an old shelf that I lay across the top of the rack, which makes a nice top.

Skeins work well on the [rack] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ELALZC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the bookshelf, they lay nicely. These work well for the big/oversized/super saver style.

I hate the filing cabinet, but it was free/family. It's just heavy (drawers) because they are stuffed.

The toters are nice to large amounts of specific yarn (ie baby yarns)

Oh, and I have under the bed storage, which works well for balled/ball winder lots of yarn as well as hanks and skeins

The rack is nice because you can make it fit your space.

I have heard amazing things about this unit bc it keeps dust out.

I love the pegboard look, but I don't want to wind every hank or skein right away. I have toyed with a section or few of these with a mix of baskets & pegs This is another site that I was looking at....basically any grid wall, and I am totally okay with used... especially when it's cheaper lol

Sorry for so much info, but yeah, it depends on a few things : )

They’re like building blocks for storage cubes with connectors! I would highly recommend since it’s a lot of space with no cage top, it’s easy to move around and build different layouts and stuff! I bought mine on Amazon!

And yeah I figured the slimming could be done easy but I cant seem to find any info or how-to videos all I find is full tailoring of button ups with cutting involved. Nice. I was looking into solutions for this myself. Don't want to frame them because I want to be able to take them down and listen to them easily. Was thinking about trying something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/AlbumMount-Mount-Display-Records-Covers/dp/B00IBZ1CDK/

I kind of like the 3d effect.

u/thisissotragic · 1 pointr/vinyl

Well honestly I wasn't planning to buy vinyl a bunch either and I found an item that let you hang it on the wall (https://www.amazon.com/AlbumMount-Adjustable-Display-Records-Covers/dp/B00IBZ1CDK).

Which is what I was going to do, I don't even own any vinyls and really only have one in mind (https://ghost-ramp.myshopify.com/products/hollowknight)

So I really don't know when I'd get more, I just don't want the record messing up or anything cause of the cheaper smaller ones.

Thanks for your suggestion though I'll look into the vertical ones.

I totally recommend vacuum saver bags if you can for winter clothes. Put the bag in one of those plastic storage containers, put your clothes in, seal, and vacuum out the air. It's like magic.

u/AbsolutelyPink · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

It sounds like you've thought of the solutions. Any amount of moisture that gets to those clothes is going to be a breeding ground for mold in a moist area. Maybe, that would be for the best and it will force your mom to get rid of the stuff?

They make weathertight storage totes (containerstore.com), but they aren't air tight I'd venture. Those with some moisture absorbing packets may do it, but will likely cost as much as the vacuum bags.

Costco often has packages of vac bags pretty decently priced.https://www.amazon.com/SpaceSaver-Premium-Reusable-Storage-Included/dp/B00X8KSKF6/ref=sr_1_4

u/old_rpger · 1 pointr/internetparents

Hey, my son has major dust allergies and I recommend getting those sealed in plastic.

Cheap alternative: plastic garbage bags, twisted at the top and duct taped.

More complete solution: vacuum bags for just this purpose that reduce the amount of space they take up and keep them sealed and safe.

Not recommending these in particular, but this is the idea: https://www.amazon.com/SpaceSaver-Premium-Reusable-Storage-Included/dp/B00X8KSKF6

There are also a type that doesn't require a vacuum: https://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-Space-Bag-Flat-Count/dp/B00MDB3OSE/

Hope that helps.

I bought this shoe rack from Amazon.

I organize from top to bottom: boots, heels, wedges, flats, sneakers.

I try to only fill up at least five shelves because years ago I was a shoe addict and I realized that was such a waste of money for me.

Not having the rack filled to capacity means I can put my shoes wherever I want if I'm feeling lazy and organizing it nicely later on isn't a daunting task.

I really like your suggestions and omg you people are so creative :) I was going to suggest painting the shelves and the dresser as well. I love teal and lime green. They should definitely go for lighter colors. They can check Walmart for a duvet. There were very beautiful designs for back to school.

They should go for lighter color curtains and match them with the furniture and shelves or the bedspread. They can even buy some sheer curtains. They give a more fresh and light sense to any room.

I would also suggest putting away your shoes. You can put them under your bed in a box or inside your closet using a door hanging organizer

And yes, please post the results :)

I am an audiophile. I had binders and binders of CD's when napster had just begun. Then the digital revolution, Mini-Disk to Ipod, 56k song downloads to torrenting discographies.

But I was born too late for vinyl.

I find myself at a friends house for after work drinks and dinner. She has just started collecting vinyl. And when I say just started, she had maybe ten albums lined up on the wall. Kind of on display, but also just sitting on the floor. We threw on Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti, my pick of her acquired albums.

Now I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan, and Physical Graffiti is a rocking album, but it was like I was listening to the album for the first time. I have listened to the album countless times, but something was completely different. The warmth of the sound, the quality, the character. This was cool.

I was so intrigued that I couldn't shut up about it when I had returned home. My dad told me that although he didn't have a turntable, he still had quite a few of his records. I made him dig them out of our storage closet.

I spent the next couple of hours looking through some 75 records. Some christmas albums, and bill cosby comedy albums. Some like an original pressing of The Beatles - "The White Album" that my dad had drawn a self portrait on. I know this totally devalues the selve, but I love this album more for it. This album has a piece of my father, it's beautiful.(I'll post a photo when I get home). Luckily my father took care of his records, so they are all in great playing shape.

I was also gifted a few that where once my mother's. An original pressing of Michael Jackson - Thriller. It, like most of her albums, was not taken care of, so it doesn't really play. I have since purchased a copy of thriller(25th anniversary picture disc), but I can't throw out my mom's which doesn't play.

So after spending hours just sitting on the floor looking at these records, I bought a turntable. I usually research electronics purchases, this time not so much. I didn't foresee my vinyl addiction to be the monster it has truly become. I just wanted to rock the small the collection I had just inherited. I bought the Audio Technica AT-LP60. I lucked out with an awesome starter turntable.

Now I find myself drooling over furniture to store my collection. (Anybody have these?) Researching turntables to upgrade there. My collection just keeps growing. I received in the mail today Soulive w/ Karl Denson - Spark, Lettuce - Fly, and Burial - Untrue. I love my albums.

TL:DR; I love vinyl.
