They pull the oils differently than paper or mesh so it鈥檚 a slightly different cup. I prefer paper due to simplicity but you gotta hit it with the water first to get that paper filter taste out before you put the coffee in to brew. Mesh doesn鈥檛 do anything for the oils so it tastes more like French press.

So I guess the question is paper, cloth, or mesh 馃

I live in the Middle East and drink Turkish coffee every day.

Nobody uses those copper pots. This is more like what's actually used, and it does a much better job (and is a lot cheaper, cleans easier, and isn't probably safer).

As far as getting started goes, really all you need is the pot and some really fine-ground coffee. Most home grinders aren't capable of grinding fine enough (with some exceptions), so your best bet is to either buy pre-ground Turkish or ask a cafe to grind their beans for you as fine as they can.

Here is a pretty barebones method that is a great way to start out. Greek coffee = Turkish coffee.

This is another pretty straightforward method. Plus his accent is glorious.

This is how you don't make Turkish coffee.

This guy shows off some variations of the Balkan method of making Turkish coffee.

The World Champ making some Turkish coffee.

About as authentic you can get.

Now that I've got you salivating, you may want this or this.

Enjoy.

This bad boy, or anything like it should be perfect. Fill it like half way with water, throw like 2 tbs coffee in, and you're set. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NCXJ3C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gYY0BbC5BJD5H

I got one of these one time which was pretty convenient as its top height is adjustable so that it can trigger the release mechanism for various makers.

This is the "kit" I bought, instead of putting coffee grounds in the top and pouring hot water in it, I do the above and pour the coffee slurry into the strainer. But they do sell th strainer part separately (other brands to)

Just buy one of these and a scale to achieve a 16:1 pour. You can get both for under 20 bucks. It鈥檚 shocking that no one has suggested this.

Here's the ones I use for the V60 Hario pour over, they make ones for standard drip coffee machines too.

I have a bunch of different coffee contraptions, from French Press, Moka pot etc. ...

But the one I use the most for convenience and everyday drinking is a Krups drip coffee machine with an insulated Pot.

The coffee tastes good and I don麓t constantly have to rebrew for a new cup, as it stays warm for a long time in the Pot/carafe.

Something like this (though I have a much older simpler model):

I make Turkish coffee. Here's a good ibrik, a small pot to boil the grind in.

Update International 12 Oz. (Ounce) Turkish Coffee Decanter, Espresso Decanter, 18/8 Gauge Stainless Steel, Barista Coffee Decanter Pitcher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NCXJ3C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j1ZNBb8CND96F

You don't need fancy cups, any container will do. To make Turkish properly you need quite a bit of grind to water. Look up a YouTube video. I use Turkish grind to make normal French Press style coffee, you need patience or a pressurised filter system to get a good cup.

Turkish coffee is like a percolater, you boil it until the mixture rises to the brim of the ibrik, take it off heat for a few moments, stir a bit (or don't), put it back on heat to boil again, repeat a few times, then take it off heat and pour slowly into your cup. If you pour too fast you'll get muddy coffee. There will be grind in your cup, that's normal. You wait for it to settle at the bottom. Pouring slowly allows the grind to settle to the bottom of the ibrik.

Copper is lined with tin or stainless steel, full copper is not normal and is dangerous. Stainless steel is perfectly normal and fine to use. My copper ibrik is lined with tin. I also own that stainless one. I filter my coffee using an aeropress, and I don't boil it like Turkish coffee. I don't have a recipe for Turkish coffee, just look on Google and YouTube, it's pretty easy.

It's a lot like espresso, good mixed, meant to be an almost 1:1 ratio water extract to grind. Don't expect a full cup of coffee unless you intend to make it like I do, that is like 2 espresso pucks of coffee grind to around 10oz of water.

I haven't, but I think that would work; a future experiment.

just put like a bunch of AVB in the tank and cover with everclear. I bet the ultrasonic will potentially produce a similar result as just letting it sit to make a tincture

edit like I was looking at these carafes to set in the tank without getting it dirty and making it easy to get the stuff out. and you could even strain it directly with this

update so it's talked about in a few places, like here, so it's something I'm going to try with vegetable glycerin.

I bought this bottle that has a built-in filter. the idea is that I can put AVB in and cover it with vegetable glycerin, put the bottle into the ultrasonic cleaner, and simply pour the tincture into dropper bottles.

Can I suggest you want something similar to a filter coffee if you went to Starbucks, similar to the kind of coffee you would get from mixing instant with water?

Filter coffee can be done as simply by using filters and pouring hot water on fresh grind. I'm currently looking at one of these because it's cheap, I don't have to watch it whilst it makes me coffee, and at that price you can afford a good grinder to go with it. I use the Delonghi Grinder as well, which comes to around 拢50 for a good cup of coffee each morning. That grinder will just at the finest setting get you espresso grind and around midway you'll find a good filter grind which is a bit coarser.

After that it's just buying good beans, grinding it, placing it in the filter and pressing the on button. It'll make your coffee in the morning and you're fine. If you don't want espresso your life is SO much easier.

Otherwise there are French Presses where your pour the grind in, add boiled water, wait three minutes, stir and plunge. (They even come in a travel variety so you can pour the water in, walk out and plunge as you're walking down the road).

There's a LOT of options and you'll get a lot of different opinions. There's a big hype about Aeropresses, and they're pretty cheap. Frankly I prefer electric filter makers like the Delonghi because it's simple and anything in the morning NEEDS to be simple for me, but it's completely your choice.
