Moisturizer after you wash is a good start. I really like ones with lactic acid in them as they are moisturizing and exfoliating, so they really help with dry skin. I only shower a couple times a week, but put on this lotion on my face and body almost every night. My skin looks great, even better than before I started using it, which it’s never really been bad.

Also, drink water and try to get more protein in your diet. Your skin is protein, so it’s important. I know you struggle with anorexia so it’s impossible to just tell yourself ‘eat more meat!’

So I’ll work with you. There are plenty of low calorie, high protein powder that you can mix in with water. Get a flavorless powder that you can mix with water and drink two or three glasses a day. It will at least be a step in the right direction. This is the brand that I use and they have a few different options.

I know where you’re coming from to an extent because, though I don’t have an eating disorder, I have terrible anxiety that makes it impossible for me to eat for days at a time without throwing up. I have incorporated unflavored protein powders in my diet to make up for the lack of nutrition I get on these days. You just have to get used to drinking a lot of water. This is easier to do if you cut out sugary beverages completely. Once you go long enough without them and force yourself to drink water when your thirsty, you will lose your taste for less healthy drink options and crave water much more often. The fact that it doesn’t have calories also makes it easier to not have anxiety over drinking it.

Marshmallows are so delicious but the kinds you find at the grocery store are PACKED with sugar and carbs. Store-bought marshmallows such as Kraft Jet-Puffed have a whopping 24 grams of carbs and 17 grams of sugar per serving. Those marshmallows would blow your blood sugar through the roof!

This awesome recipe though has no sugar and 0g net carbs. Plus it only uses five ingredients. Check it out below with more details and tips at the source link

RECIPE: KETO MARSHMALLOWS USING ALLULOSE

(NO SUGAR, LOW-CARB, GLUTEN FREE, KETO, DIABETIC FRIENDLY)

Servings: 24 Jumbo Marshmallows (~38 grams each)

Prep Time: 20 Minutes

Resting Time: 4 Hours

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/4 Cup Water, divided
  • 3 Tbsp Gelatin (we used Great Lakes Pure Beef Gelatin which you can get on Amazon)
  • 3 Cups Allulose, plus an extra 1/4 cup for dusting (we used the ChipMonk blend of Monk Fruit and Allulose: AlluMonk. You can find other allulose brands online as well)
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract (we used McCormick, but any brand should work fine)
  • 1/4 tsp Fine Sea Salt
  • Optional food coloring if you want colored marshmallows

    INSTRUCTIONS

  • Lightly grease two 8x8 square baking pans OR one 9x13 baking pan with pan spray and line the pans with a strip of parchment. We recommend spraying the pans once more to grease the parchment.
  • Add 1/2 cup water to a bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin over the water and immediately whisk the gelatin into the water. Set the gelatin mixture aside to bloom while you make the allulose syrup.
  • In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, pour in the remaining 3/4 cup water and whisk in your 3 cups of allulose. Continually mix while you heat the pan up on your stove. You want to heat the mixture to 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a candy thermometer or digital thermometer to continually monitor the temperature.
  • Once the allulose syrup reaches 240 degrees F, carefully add the hot syrup to the gelatin mixture in your other bowl. Add in the vanilla and salt and start to mix either using an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer. You do not want to do this by hand, trust us! Turn the mixer speed up to medium and whip until the marshmallow begins to thicken and lighten in color. At this point, you can turn the mixer up to high speed without the liquid making a giant mess. Whip on high for at least 15 minutes. You will know it's done when the marshmallow is VERY thick, glossy, cool to the touch, and holds firm peaks.
  • If you want to color your marshmallows, add in a few drops of food coloring during the mixing process.
  • Working quickly, use a rubber spatula to scrape the marshmallow into the prepared pans. Use an offset spatula to smooth the surface as much as possible (you can oil both spatulas to help prevent sticking if you want to). Allow the marshmallows to set for at least four hours or overnight.
  • Using a blender, grind the additional 1/4 cup of allulose for dusting until it's the consistency of confectioners sugar.
  • Use the parchment paper to lift the marshmallow out of the pans. Using an oiled knife, trim the edges and then slice the marshmallows into strips. Dust the surfaces of each marshmallow strip with the powdered allulose. Then slice the marshmallow strips into squares and dust the cut sides.
  • Store the marshmallows in an airtight container. Or, lightly cover the container with a paper towel and allow them to dry out overnight, undisturbed.

So a lot of the BPC sites you're reading are selling something. There's absolutely no need to buy special beans or even MCT oil, IMO. The goal of BPC, is getting a bunch of great quality fats. Kerrygold and coconut oil are more than "high quality" enough for me.

I've done cold brew BPC two ways -- using already softened (from being room temp) butter and coconut oil mixed with a hand blender and also melting the oil and butter in micro and blending that way. I prefer melting first. Pour over ice if you want cold coffee.

The one thing special I do add is Collagen Hydrolysate. It not only adds protein to my morning (I don't eat breakfast), it's also helpful for joints, skin and hair. It has no flavor

u/lineycakes · 6 pointsr/VeganBeauty

I started taking this Organic Plant Based Collagen Builder about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It doesn't have collagen in it, but through the plant-based ingredients it claims to increase or maintain your body's own collagen production.

Since I'm still new to it, I can't say for sure what effects it's having, but I think my hair & nails feel healthier. It has biotin in it so that would make sense. I started taking it for joint health as I'm getting older and read that collagen is important for knees. I want to make sure my joints can keep up with my activities! The skin aspect is more of a bonus for me, but I hope to see some effects after the 2nd bottle. People said it took a little bit to notice anything.

It's also full of vitamins which is a plus because my diet is not always great. For me there were a lot of reasons not to take a non-vegan collagen supplement.

edit: I won't deny that collagen products have become a new, hot marketed item. I hope to see some effects for my joints but will discontinue it if I don't.

I personally find collagen supplement work. I bought some after reading that collagen would help rebuild my thyroid after having Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I don't know how much it did for that but my nails and hair (which were pretty trashed from thyroid issues) grew a lot stronger -- my eyebrows and eyelashes grew back and my nails stopped shattering all over the place. I think it helped my skin as well. I've def seen my wrinkles are less noticeable when I remember to take this chewable collagen -- however, it also has hyaluronic acid which possibly could explain the added plumpness although there's not much definitive study on whether taking HA orally does anything or not.

u/b0tch7 · 6 pointsr/tressless

I'm about 4.5 months in of twice daily 5% applying to my hairline.

In my experience, I've noticed that eye-related side effects simply depend on how carefully I apply and subsequently wash my hands.

If I am brash and get some on my forehead, or don't thoroughly wash my hands with soap, then within 12-24hrs my eyes get irritated and red. But if I'm consistent and careful with application and washing then it seems to be totally fine.

I think we all touch our faces much more than we realise, also minor sweating in the hours post application -- so it's possible you are accidentally getting some minox directly on or around your eye.

Just my experience! YMMV. Thanks for the post - I will continue to monitor my eye region as I continue this regimen...

EDIT: I recently started taking collagen peptides and have noticed a drastic improvement in my complexion and overall skin health (tightness/wrinkles). Highly recommend!

There's a couple things to consider.

  1. Are you conditioning? If not, do so every time you shower even if you don't shampoo.
  2. Minoxidil will help the appearance of the hair you have as long as the fin is doing its job.
  3. If you're not already, tailor your dietary needs to your hair. Take lots of B12, biotin, and Omega 3s. Make sure your thyroid and vitamin D levels are normal. Also try activated silicon, it's a little pricey on its own but certain collagen boosting formulas in pill form are cheaper and more convenient. I take this daily and it improves my hair and nails significantly.
  4. I can't personally vouch for this but I have heard castor oil applied to the scalp 1 hour before showering thickens hair's appearance and helps with dandruff.
u/bx_k · 5 pointsr/NICUParents

I had only one at 32, via c-section as well. Similar situation as far as living 20-25min away from the NICU where my babe is. We’ve formed a routine over the last 3 weeks (he’s still learning to take the bottle). Recovery is hard, but I can share what’s worked for us.

Re: c-section — You’ll likely be walking quite a bit. As hard as this seems, I think it’s partially what led me to a quick healing process. Tylenol and Ibuprofen are going to be life for a couple weeks. I wore a belly band about a week after surgery. This made a huge difference in how I was able to move around. Granny panties (the cheap kind from Hanes work well...I joked w/my husband when we were looking at the store, “I want my belly button to disappear” bc that’s how high they went) are super helpful as well. If you can sleep somewhat elevated, it helped me in getting in and out of bed for about the first two weeks. My morning coffee also has a scoop of collagen in it; I’m not a doctor, but I have healed really well & I think this has helped, possibly. I’ve tried to rest when I can, walk when I have to, and accept all the crazy changes I have no control over.

I also attempt to control the little things. My phone’s alarms were set up every few hours and labeled either “Ibuprofen/Motrin + pump” or “Tylenol + pump.” I can send you my exact routine if you’re interested. I pump 8-10x/day and am currently producing just enough for my 35+4 little man, so I’m not stellar but I’m still going. I keep reminding myself that my only goal is to keep pumping and I’ll worry about production more once he’s actually home.

Re: visits to the hospital — Not being able to sleep there has been one of the biggest challenges for us, especially with me healing from a c-section. We’re also trying to budget, so eating at the hospital 2-3x/day isn’t ideal either. We have a daily schedule to visit for two of his cares, one at 9am and the other at 3pm. This gives me the opportunity to have some broken sleep (yay for pumping) and we eat at home. I sometimes squeeze in a nap before the 3pm visit, which helps. We also plan on staying in between visits once he gets closer to coming home.

Having the slight breaks gives us time to take care of our dogs, the house, and attempt to nest bc that didn’t happen how I had planned before he decided to make an appearance. Not to mention, we had moved to an new state just three weeks before I went into labor. This new routine is now just our normal. We do what we can and that’s all we can do. Sending you hugs bc I know this can feel challenging, but I’m told it will be over before we know it.

Edit: Updated drug names bc I don’t know things lol

Not sure it matters but this is the best deal on collagen powder I've come across.

u/zippityflip · 4 pointsr/Supplements

Yes, I'm taking a tablespoon (about 6 grams) of this at a time, but I think when I first started, I was literally taking the full 2-tablespoon, 12-gram serving, which was A LOT my friends. This is Type I collagen from bovine hide. I went down from 2 tablespoons to 1 while I was still in the initial honeymoon phase, and still noticing improvements in my ankle, so anecdotally I think that 2 tablespoons may be excessive, but your mileage may vary. I overall have about a 1700 calorie per day diet with 120 grams of protein, for context.

One other note on dosing - most collagen capsules and gummies are something like 200-500mg of collagen, with the gummies less and the capsules more. A tablespoon of powder is 6g aka 6,000 mg. So... huge dosing difference, unless you're taking like 12 capsules a day. This is the other reason why I'm wondering if I can cut down, and how much you really need long term. (Edited to add: I see that the Beauty Bursts that /u/charmed2 recommends have 2,000mg, so that's at least in the ballpark.)

As far as how I would take it, I tried it in soups and in cottage cheese/yogurt. I noticed that ironically it seemed to dissolve better in cold liquid/goop. Hot or cold, it tended to form lumps even after vigorous stirring. The best cold liquid I found was a V8, since V8 masks the flavor pretty well, plus vitamin C stimulates the body's natural collagen production so hey, maybe there's some helpful interaction there.

The most palatable method overall, though, is to mix the powder with another dry protein powder that was engineered to dissolve easily first, and then put in the liquid and stir vigorously. If the powders are well mixed, the bits of collagen don't seem to find each other to clump together as easily, and you can't smell/taste the result as easily.

I buy it on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Collagen-Peptides-Hydrolyzed-Grass-Fed-Certified/dp/B00XQ2XGAA

It’s certified Paleo, Keto and non-GMO, derived from pasture raised grass fed cattle.

I’ve been taking it for over 6 months now. For my joints, I could feel results in about three weeks. At two months my joint pain issues reduced about 40%. I noticed my hair was growing like crazy at around six weeks.

At the five month mark I noticed that I was regaining flexibility and could walk for long periods without any pain. This really works for me!

I bought collagen powder on a recommendation from another redditor, to go with my quest coconut oil powder that I am absolutely IN LOVE with (it makes your coffee taste like Swiss Miss without the sugary feel - though with a splash of SF vanilla my coffee is amazing! Anyway, I bought it to combat my ever more crappy nails. Dear lord, I am drinking the most filling coffee ever. Instead of 2-3 cups of just coconut fat, a single serving of each divided into two cups is amazingly filling. Wow. 8g of fat and 18g of protein out of the gates. And I hope my nails grow!! The collagen (to those who wonder) is flavorless, and with the coconut oil powder and vanilla, it's just creamy frothy coffee. (I use a milk frother)

I've been bad about tracking, but I've also been lifting so I've just tried to eat when I am hungry... okay, maybe I haven't been quite so careful. I woke up today 1lb up, but 1 lb up from my lowest... well within my happy window of success. Today my husband played hookie, so while I wait for my kiln to cool off, we're going to sneak off for breakfast and a matinee of the Magical Beasts movie!! Not a terrible way to go. Although after this coffee, I'd be happy seeing the movie first and then eating... but not sure he could do that. And he's supportive of the fact that I have to hit the gym, and may go with me. Where was he wednesday when I got pinned under the bench press bar, lol.

I am also a 42 year old male who has been taking collagen protein for about a year now and fee that they have improved my athletic performance.

They are not steroids or anything like that but my joints do feel better and I am able to recover from strenuous HIIT and crossfit style workouts more quickly. I take two scoops of this a day...https://www.amazon.com/Collagen-Peptides-Hydrolyzed-Grass-Fed-Certified/dp/B00XQ2XGAA/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1524266316&sr=8-3&keywords=collagen+powder

ETA; I feel this is much better of a supplement than the tired glucosamine and the now trendy turmeric.

u/Jared_from_SUBWAY · 3 pointsr/MuayThai
  • Apple or banana (for potassium. Coconut Water is nice too.)
  • Some almonds, cashews, or walnuts (protein, energy)
  • Some quick cooking oats RAW (if more than 30min before training)
  • A spoon of raw honey (energy)
  • Spoon of coconut oil (energy)
  • "Amazing Grass" (Good way to start day, and it forces me to wash it down with a ton of water.)

I don't eat everything on this list. It depends on my time, or how I'm feeling; but I tend to mix it up, and stick to things that are easily digestible and can be utilized efficiently.

Other than that, I personally don't like eating "meals" before workouts or training. That's why everything I eat tends to be light, simple, and serves a purpose for the workout. AFTER the workout/training, then it's time for MEAT!

    Edit Wording.

I LOVE that you posted about this! I was actually thinking about the same thing this morning.

I've been debating on whether or not to get on the collagen bandwagon--a girl I know that's a health coach recommended this:
https://www.amazon.com/Vital-Proteins-Pasture-Raised-Grass-Fed-Collagen/dp/B00NLR1PX0?th=1

She says it's realllllly helped her skin, hair, and nails and I feel like I've been hearing so much about collagen lately.

Would love to know if anybody on this sub takes this and would recommend it?

Thanks! :)

I put a tablespoon or so of great lakes grass fed gelatin in my coffee. thickens it a little bit especially as it cools, but otherwise doesn't change the taste or anything else.

u/Aggie05 · 3 pointsr/leangains

I also do OMAD and worry about getting enough protein. I put BCAA powder and this collagen powder in my water bottle I take to the gym. It breaks the fast since there are 72 calories and 18 G of protein in one serving. I was previously just doing BCAAs and I can’t say that I’ve noticed a difference since I’ve added the collagen powder, but at least I don’t have to cram a protein shake in with dinner.

u/ZestyPrognost · 3 pointsr/ketogains

I've been using this one on subscribe and save which makes it $0.50 for a daily serving. Although I did find this one which seems higher quality, albeit more expensive. If anyone can recommend a better green powder that's not too expensive, I'd be willing to try it.

u/captainbirdfeathers · 3 pointsr/Supplements

^ This guy said it, protein, creatine(yes yes yes),
but I would also very highly recommend hydrolyzed collagen. Its for your joints, muscles tendons, ligaments, skin, hair. But know that for the full effect, it can take up to 4 months. It takes about 4 months for your body to fully replace it's cells. Don't quote me exactly, do some research. I've never once had an issue with the brand I'm linking below, every product I've bought from them had very high ratings, I run their brand through fakespot to see if there's fake reviews and the brand always comes up with an A grade, which is the best. They sell bulk supplements at a very good price. If you look for another brand make sure it's hydrolyzed collagen. But definitely look it up and do research for yourself so you know what you're taking.

Bulksupplements Pure Hydrolyzed Collagen (Bovine) Powder (1 Kilogram) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015YG2N2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_D7PWAbTBKDZ1D

Edit: look up supplements on examine.com
They link to scientific studies and tell you their reliability based on what kind of study it is, double blind etc, but they also tell you if there's funding issues for the study, like if the people who made the supplement are funding the study. Always good to know this stuff.

Skincare Rave I just started oil cleansing with evening primrose oil, and I really enjoy seeing the makeup just melt off on my cotton ball. Weirdly satisfying. I haven't completely converted over from cleansing with cold cream, but it might be coming. (And no breakouts! No rosacea flair ups!)

Makeup Rave I got Bite Lip Crayons a while back, but recently added the Red Velvet color to my 'daily face'. Love it! It stays so much better than regular lipstick, while also not being as drying as regular matte lippies. The color is BOLD and awesome. :)

Makeup Rant I decided to try out Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals foundation for its 'natural' blah blah. I hate it. The coverage is non-existent in my color (palest). Like I literally feel like it's clear, and I'm just putting moisturizer on my face. Yah for wasting $50!

Nailcare Rant of the friggin year - OPI Nail Envy for Sensitive/Peeling! This little bottle of nail death has KILLED all the progress I've made on my nails over the last few months. I've been taking Biotin and adding collagen to my coffee, and my nails have flourished! Then I use this Nail Envy crap on my fingernails just for the heck of it (cause I got it for my toes), and I have had broken nail after broken nail after friggin broken nail!

Also, that collagen I linked above - I'm in love! I got it because my mom read that it's good for thyroid/autoimmune issues, and I've noticed a significant increase in my energy level on top of the nice hair and nail growth...minus the sad effect of body hair ALSO growing in faster, haha.

u/Adapter20 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I've been using collagen peptides (first Vital Proteins and then Sports Research) for about 3.5 months. I haven't noticed any changes in my skin, hair, or nails at this point so I can't offer insight about its effects. However, I can say that it dissolves well and doesn't affect the taste of beverages. It seems to dissolve best in warm/hot liquids, but I've only really had a problem mixing it into very cold drinks.

u/-Skinwalker- · 3 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Since I already tagged you in another comment... I might as well ask haha

I'm roughly following your collagen supplementation guidelines for tendon recovery but I just want to make sure I am doing everything right:

30min before my workout,

Taking 20g of these hydrolyzed collagen peptides

And a 1g vitamin C tablet from Costco

The dosages are a little higher but I am assuming it shouldn't really make much of a difference?

u/Vetox23 · 3 pointsr/Minoxbeards

Well you’re still a relatively young person, I’d imagine (don’t quote me on this) that the reason it cause “wrinkles and aging skin” would be due to the fact that it causes dryness within the area the area of application because of the Propylene Glycol in Minoxidil. This usually leads to a person not being able maintain an adequately moisturized face while you have minoxidil on your face. I can imagine that without the proper amount of natural oils (sebum), it could lead to skin aging and wrinkles. Though IF that’s the case (because I am no professional), you may want to use the foam version so you don’t experience the dryness, though you will still have to wait to take off the minoxidil before you moisturize, your skin will not become nearly as dry WHILE you have it on. Over the long term this could make a difference. Hopefully this will help you gauge which direction you what to proceed with. Aside from this, if you can afford the Foam Minoxidil from Kirkland or Rogaine for the duration of your intended use then all that is left is to weigh your pros and cons and decide if it’s worth the potential trade offs.

If you’re very concerned with the health of your skin I’d advise you to look into purchasing a Biotin 1000mcg supplement (Do not take higher than this. This is slightly more than 3 times the Daily Recommended Value of a person with metabolism of 2000 Calories; longterm use of really high contents of biotin could lead to catastrophic nerve issues, the one I provided is usually the lowest you will find but is more than enough). Also look into essential oils preferably with low comedogenic ratings or other moisturizers for your skin. As well as
Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptide Supplements. Though supplements are great, they are exactly as the name implies, they supplement. Having a healthy balanced diet, along with daily aerobic exercise is your best aid in having healthy skin.

Hopefully this helps!

Powder is the most common form I've seen! This is the one I've been eyeing. You can mix it with water or any other drink/yogurt/soup etc.

I've seen it in the form of pills though at some health stores.

u/ZephramKnight · 2 pointsr/Paleo

I believe /u/DigestibleComestible is referring this this Gelatin, which is the one that I see most often referenced in any Paleo related article. Per the reviews, most users notice change around the 3 month mark, after taking 2tbsps/day, every day, but they didn't specify which issues were relieved for them, so I can only assume they mean their overall skin tone/feel/etc.

Of course, incorporating bone broth from healthy animals is always the best way to get nutrients.

Anecdotally, I have been using this gelatin for ~1 month now, and so far I have noticed that the flaky, dry skin on my hands doesn't show up anymore, my facial hair is generally softer, and the cuticles on my fingers seem to be doing very well.

u/CalicoFox · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I have a bunch of stretch marks, and I call them my tiger stripes! I'm very proud of them. Once your weight stabilizes, the stretch marks fade and eventually disappear. Eating low-carb will help, too. Rubbing coconut oil on them also helps (a little goes a long ways, so don't go crazy!), and making sure you get collagen in your diet, too.

You can get collagen from high-quality gelatin like this one (which does not gel so can be put in coffee) and/or this one (which does gel and can be used to make jello). Please note that brand-names Jell-o and Knox are very low quality. You can also drink bone broth or just swallow the gristle when you eat your steak.

Last but not least, drinking lots of water also helps! Stay hydrated!

u/xicana63 · 2 pointsr/xxketo

This bad boy! So the red/orange container is gelatin you can make into jello and the green one is gelatin that won't gel and you can put into your coffee. But what really helps me is using the red/orange container gelatin to make jello with Powerade Zero or I'll use water that's been mixed with Emergen-C Electro Mix and sugar-free syrup for flavor.

From my research stay away from Knox gelatin (yucky taste) and Sugarfree Jello (only has a minute quantity of actual gelatin).

When making jello with this gelatin use these instructions (taken from the first review in Amazon for this gelatin, but I modified it a little to make it keto-friendly):

"i start off by mixing 1 cup of COLD liquid with the 2 tablespoons of gelatin in the measuring cup.
keep mixing till all the gelatin has been mixed with the liquid, don't leave any chunks.
then let sit for 5 mins. This will bloom the gelatin.

After the 5 mins, dump the cup of liquid/gelatin into a dish, and then clean your measuring cup, then pour
another cup of liquid into your measuring cup. I then microwave this cup for 2 minutes (maybe another minute after i test it)
then take it out to measure the temperature. you want to try to get the liquid around 160F degrees. (should be pretty hot to the touch)

then i mix in the sweetner [I don't add any] to taste, then add the hot liquid to the cold, and mix it.
it should all be clear after you mix them together, and then i leave it sit on the counter for a few minutes,
then put it in the fridge. It takes a few hours to harden."

I eat it all, I try to make 2 tablespoons of gelatin by daily dose so I use half the liquid mentioned above so there is less jello to eat because even then there is still a lot of jello to eat!

Let me know if I'm not clear! I can type slower than I think!

I'm sorry you're having trouble with meals!

Have you looked at collagen powder? I like this one because it doesn't have any smell. You sort of have to dissolve it in something, so I usually mix it in tea or coffee.

I like to blend frozen banana into my protein shakes, and for extra calories, if you can eat almonds you could also try mixing in almond butter.

u/broccyncheese · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

I like this one from amazon for collagen!

And the only protein I've found that dissolves well in my coffee is Bowmar, it's super fine and doesn't clump up like other ones I've used. PEScience is great too if you have a blender and can pulse it a bit to get the clumps out.

And can i ask what made you need to take antibiotics for? and it will mess up your gut heath you need to rebuild the good gut bacteria you can start with pre and probiotics and other good gut heath foods and when you eat gluten foods what happens to you? also either when you wake up or just in the day is your tongue covered in white stuff? also if you can try to stay away from foods and things that have high fructose corn syrup and carrageenan in them here is a few things to help get you started

Thank you for this!!! Honestly, the thing I struggle with the most is no sugar or milk in my coffee. I LOVE my coffees and that little bit of sweetness is something I consistently look forward to. I'll definitely try this! (that said, is the oil necessary? Does it still taste good without it?)

Also, which Peptides powder do you use? This is the one I found, but I also see this creamer one.

u/lizerpetty · 2 pointsr/HaircareScience

Ok try to remain calm. Stress can actually cause your hair to fall out.

Have you started oral contraceptives? Or a hormonal iud, or any hormones in general. That can make your hair thinner. But it won’t make it all fall out.

Collagen can help you grow more hair. I put powder collagen in my coffee every morning.
https://www.amazon.com/NeoCell-Super-Collagen-Powder-Ounces/dp/B0011DJ71I

Also saw palmetto can help reduce your hair shedding.
https://www.amazon.com/Palmetto-Supplement-Prostate-Natural-Griffith/dp/B01GDPQFSG
There is also saw palmetto shampoo:
https://www.amazon.com/Lipogaine-Stimulating-Natural-Thinning-Breakage/dp/B073W5QHQQ

Be careful of supplements with Biotin. Biotin breaks me out something fierce. All over my body. If it doesn’t do that to you then that’s awesome.

Fo-ti can also help hair:
https://www.amazon.com/Fo-Ti-Root-Natures-Way-Caps/dp/B00558AGDI

It could also be an inflammatory issue. I strongly suggest you go to the Dr if you can. If it is inflammatory, you may want to think about cutting sugar and over processed foods.

I’m very sorry this is happening to you. I hope you can find a solution to feel better. Good Luck!🍀

I took this product as directed once a day in my coffee for several months and loved what it did for my hair. That said, I began experiencing severe bone and back pain and found out I had dangerously high levels of calcium in my blood. This was the only supplement I was taking so I stopped immediately and within two days my bone pain was gone and within a few weeks my blood levels were normal again.
My doctor warned that he’s seen this a lot since people began using collagen supplements so aggressively. It can cause hypercalcemia in some people so take this as a word of warning. High calcium levels can cause bone pain and kidney stones and can be dangerous.

It seems to hold me over just fine until lunch and I have yet to get sick of it. It's really the only actually beneficial nutrition I seem to get during the day.

u/kmoonster · 2 pointsr/birding

You might try a seed cake, like this: https://www.wildbeaks.com/superior-blend-seed-cake/

Most bird center or nature stores should carry these. Grocery stores may, at least in some areas. They are seed cakes bound with gelatin, not dissimilar from what is used to make gel-cap pills. They shouldn't melt, and don't have the calorie overload like suet does. A lot of birds will skip or reduce suet intake in summer due to the extra calories (and subsequent body heat).

These come in cakes that will fit in small or large suet cages, also as cylinders, bells, balls, etc.

Edit: if you DIY, try some straight gelatin like you would use for making jelly or candy, look for it in the canning section or at a whole-food type store. Keep it light, you don't need much, just enough to keep the cakes in shape. You're making a seed cake, not a gummy bear! Something like any of these should work as long as there are no sugars or artificial additives: https://www.amazon.com/Great-Lakes-Unflavored-Gelatin-16-Ounce/dp/B001ELLBJS

The Great Lakes Gelatin is kosher and comes from grass fed cows - no added anitbiotics or hormones.

u/WhinterSnow · 1 pointr/keto

I tried a couple whey powders and just could not stand the taste they added. That seems to really be a personal preference thing though.

Collagen dissolves easily and mixes great in an immersion blender. It's more expensive and doesn't add a ton of protein through. I just wanted my BPC to have some amount of protein.

you do understand that those drinks aren't even healthy, they use "natural fructose" to sweeten it, a.k.a. a "healthier" name for high fructose corn syrup, which is the cheapest sweetener possible. and they use "ultra purified reverse osmosis water", you can have a fucking reverse osmosis water machine in your own house for less than a starter pack of verve. it's just a ground up vitamin (a shitty one at that) mixed with mangosteen, how much does one can cost? $3-4? the companies cost per can is probably about .50 cents, if even, and you're paying higher than retail for it, then YOU have to resell it.

you're getting scammed bro, nutrition facts don't add up to what you're paying for.

maybe you should look up the definition of a [Ponzi scheme](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme)

"A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from existing capital or new capital paid by new investors, rather than from profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation. Operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns (a fucking BMW) than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. The perpetuation of the high returns requires an ever-increasing flow of money from new investors to sustain the scheme.

Wanna know what's gonna happen to vemma very soon?
Since the scheme requires a continual stream of investments to fund higher returns, once investment slows down, the scheme collapses as the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns (the higher the returns, the greater the risk of the Ponzi scheme collapsing). Such liquidity crises often trigger panics, as more people start asking for their money, similar to a bank run.

also there is NO WAY there is 25.2g of mangosteen in there. this powder that I use http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Superfood-8-5-Ounce-Container/dp/B00112ILZM, is 8 grams per serving. And that's a heaping scoop of powder, 25g in a 245ml bottle would be undrinkable.

You should get out while you can, or keep believing fake graphs and payouts, your choice.

u/stripelesswb · 1 pointr/bjj

I second it.

I also consume gelatin (http://www.amazon.com/Great-Lakes-Unflavored-Gelatin-16-Ounce/dp/B001ELLBJS) every day, approximately 15grams/day. I noticed that it helps a lot with tendons, ligaments and skin. It is quite annoying to have to mix it up once a day, but definitely worth the effort IMO. I go hard during rolling and I had quite a few close calls when my wrist would snap and I'd feel pain. But that would heal in a matter of days and I wouldn't even have to take days off of training. I attribute it to prevention (Animal Flex + gelatin) rather than just healing abilities.

I started with all that and now I'm just using a collagen supplement, mct powder, and 1 tbs of hwc. 125 cal, 10 fat, 6.6 protien. That actually keeps me going until the afternoon easily and often until dinner time.

I'm using this mct and this collagen powder. I've always had issues with no energy since I was around 12 years old and keto hasn't helped like I hoped. The MCT powder definitely gives me the boost I've been looking for, I noticed it the first couple days after starting it. Are you taking a collagen supplement? You won't see the effects immediately, but I tore my ACL back in August and started taking it to aid in my recovery. Who knows if it's helped my ACL but my hair / skin / nails look amazing. It's also an easy way to pad your diet with 10 extra grams of protein. This is the one i'm using - one scoop in my tea in the mornings - it dissolves completely and is tasteless. A word to the wise though, it can cause stomach upset at first, so start with a tiny bit and build up to a full scoop. https://www.amazon.com/Hydrolyzed-Collagen-Peptides-Dietary-Supplement/dp/B00XQ2XGAA?th=1

Meh. I mean it's the same meat going into all the other meat things you eat. There are also 'higher quality' options available. Lastly the idea as far as I understand it is that the gelatin binds to the stuff that it drops out of the beer, so not only are you starting with a tiny amount in the first place, most of it is just going to get thrown away with the nasties in the very bottom of your keg/bottles.

Have no fear sugar-free jello is A-OK!!! nutritional specs for Jello

What you were thinking about is gelatin, a delicious, nutritious protein. the above post was about glycerin, a sugar alcohol.
Gelatin is the jelly-like stuff you get at the top of a broth after boiling bones for a few hours. in my opinion its the superfood our granparents are which we're all missing in our diets today. its amazing for your joints/hair/overall health

Eat as much jello as you want, then have some more (as you can probably tell, i also love jello). Better yet, if you love the texture and feel of Jello, by making it at home, you can:
-increase your gelatin intake
-get a better quality gelatin (grass fed all day!)
-save muchos money
-make unflavoured/ridiculously flavoured jello

Here's how:

  1. buy this stuff

  2. mix with water

  3. add flavour I like to use the little (squirt bottles you normally add to water)

  4. refrigerate

  5. enjoy

You can also get collagen supplements, they don't cost too much.

No problem! The stuff above is all vegan-friendly; you can also go some non-vegan routes for even more options:

This appears to be the one you have? I'm gonna get it if so, sounds like ppl in the reviews take 4-6 pills a day and one guy said you should be taking vitamin C supps with this? So a multivitamin should work? I'll pick both up if this is right.

you could consider buying some super greens mix powder (https://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Superfood-Original-Servings/dp/B00112ILZM/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1504018276&sr=8-3&keywords=super%2Bgreens%2Bpowder&th=1) and using the container to store the kratom in.

kratom and the green mix powder look virtually identical.

Taking a collagen supplement is supposed to be helpful with joint pain.

I use youtheory Collagen Advanced Formula 1, 2 and 3, 290 Tablets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006VAZYNG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_GfnjNSxTwjrwv for other reasons but helping with joint pain is listed as a benefit.

I've been on Accutane for 5 months and am very active, I haven't had any joint issues. I can't say whether or not these pills have actually helped or if I've just gotten lucky, but they may be worth a try. Good luck!

and this magnesium
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q78C1EW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01

the magnesium you rub into your muscles and joints you DO NOT want to put it on your face or any other sensitive area though

Sorry!

  1. It's a powdered animal protein--much like gelatin--that supports joint health, and helps with hair, skin, and nails. Totally unflavored. Can be used in cooking or it dissolves in hot or cold liquids. I swear by it. Here's what I buy.
  2. Two scoops is one serving per the label, which is 20 grams.

I hope you will try a kale smoothie!! They are hella nutritious. Here is my jam: buy a head of kale at the store (purple is the bomb), take it home, cut off the stems, wash it, dry it, chop it up, and put it in a big Ziploc bag. Then i stash it in the freezer, so it stays good and never goes bad or wilts. I keep an old protein powder scoop (1/4 cup) in the Ziploc, and throw 2 scoops in my morning smoothie. You can use any protein powder you like; i use Jay Robb whey or egg white powder. I also put some grass-fed unflavored gelatin because a lot of the keto/paleo sites recommended it. I also add a few (about 1/8 cup) of frozen blueberries to help the flavor.

Make sure you leave enough space in the jar for it to blend properly. My Ninja individual jar has a "max fill" line which is helpful. blend the shit out of it or else you'll get the "liquid salad" effect. I will add some Kerrygold butter, or olive oil, or coconut oil to the shake if I need more fat that day.

I used a Magic Bullet blender for a long time, then I upgraded to a Ninja, which is what I use now. Someday i want to get a Blendtec or a Vitamixer, but I don't have six hundo to throw down on a fucking blender.

I buy the Nature's Way brand of coconut oil, to me it tastes pretty coconutty. I tried to get my dad to eat some, because MCTs help with memory in addition to all the other amazing things they do, but the stubborn old man won't eat it because he is convinced it will make him fat. That shit is like catnip to me, I love it. I love all the other great "fat bomb" recipes folks post on here. Good luck!!

Thanks for the response! Are those green powders similar to something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-SuperFood-Original-Servings/dp/B00112ILZM/ref=pd_sim_gro_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=07PP5820WNHRA4JH98F9

or are they something different that I could take alongside it. They seem pretty intense which is actually what I'm looking for, but I'm just trying to make sure I understand the spectrum of things I could be buying so I can cover it all.

I must have these powder greens to go along with my carb reduced, protein and veggies rich diet. These contain a blend of like 54 vegetables and nutrients, are all natural, and will help me get my 5-8 servings of vegetables a day.

I came up with my screen name while browsing reddit while watching The Big Lebowski. It is the name of John Goodmans character.

Thanks for the contest

Collagen Peptides are 10g protein 40cal a scoop and tasteless. They're easy to mix in to things.

I get this from amazon. I'm not toooo sure what it does to my skin to be completely honest with you, but only because I'm freakishly obsessed with skincare stuff and I don't know which exact products are helping me out LOL. shout out to /r/asianbeauty

u/ahhh_zombies · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I've been taking collagen daily for about two months now. This is the one I use.

I started taking it to help with hair growth and hair strength. I'm not yet sure if it has helped with that or if it has helped my skin, but my nails are really strong now! They used to break or peel as they grew, and I trimmed off the damaged parts. Now I actually need to trim them or else they'd keep growing on their own.

u/IronyAdmin · 1 pointr/xxketo

Someone on another thread just recommended this one to me. I've been looking for a more affordable option for that too.

u/jfds7 · 1 pointr/xxketo

"I don't really care for sweets" --usually works better for me than "can't" but YMMV

This is my go to protein powder, but I only use it on days when I'm not really in the mood to eat meat. It goes pretty well in coffee and I even had some mixed with peanut butter once and I couldn't taste it at all.

I’ve been taking This for 2 weeks now. Can’t really say it is doing much, but I saw some research on hyaluronic acid and thought I would give it a try. Definitely has make my skin better though.
