Last Tuesday marked the last day of counseling, as my therapist is taking an indefinite hiatus. The timing feels right: since last October I've had many shifts and openings via practice, have made several lifestyle changes, stopped taking antidepressants, and feel grounded and self-sufficient at the moment. It was a tender affair as she mentioned my former anxieties about her taking PoI, Enlightenment, and meditation experiences seriously throughout our work together. She said I was a great example of the path, which inspired her to look more deeply into practice. This was validating since I had worried that some of my reports that would seem perfectly normal here would seem like pathologies. I learned a great deal from seeing her weekly and will miss her, but I won't hesitate to resume therapy elsewhere if and when the need arises.

Missed consort practice a few times last week and the effects were tangible – had some conflicts with my partner due to disconnection, which were very fruitful to work through. That said, better to maintain a strong meditation regiment, as my practice had consisted mostly of 15-30 minute sessions per day. There were moments where I had plenty of free time for sitting but opted for self-gratification (watching TV, going out, etc.), which did little to address persistent self-criticism and insecurities. Despite this a series of three cessations popped off while at work on Thursday, which reaped some daylong bliss. As of yesterday practice is strong, and since I have the next two days I plan to keep it that way to re-commit to good habits yet again – the consort work is equally fruitful both within partnership (essential in mine as a totem of dedication) and as a meditation practice all on its own.

On Sunday I went to a Red Tara empowerment at Chagdud Gongpa Amrita, a local Nyingma sangha (lovingly referred to as The House of Tara). The members were incredibly warm and the energetic presence was incredibly powerful. After having read so much about Vajrayana, practicing deity / guru yoga informally, and primarily practicing via Dharma Ocean's curriculum, it was insightful to partake in a traditional ceremony. Though it was hard to immerse myself in the instructions throughout the various parts I'm glad to have found a lineage that practices with a particularly resonate yidam. They conduct Nyungne annually, which excited me since they were selling the linked book I mentioned a few weeks ago. I still want to check out Sakya (since it's a larger and nicer space) and Dharma Ocean Seattle (still haven't made it due to scheduling conflicts), but Amrita left a pleasant impression – I'll go back sometime regardless of what school resonates most as home.

If you want to know more about why Sugar is bad for you I cannot recommend Pure, White and Deadly: How Sugar Is Killing Us and What We Can Do to Stop It by John Yudkin enough. It was prophetic in it's vision and revolutionary in it's science.

Richard Lustig has taken up that mantle and has been giving talks about it with some very dry science but some very conclusive points.

They are the same guy. He also claims to be nominated for the Nobel Prize.

Paul D Tinari has eclectic interests, to put it politely.
He does a futurism radio show as Mr Future, and has his own consulting company. There is hardly anything about him or his companies on the internet though apart from his self-promotional stuff.

He recently wrote this book, which sells for $13:

Lymph Mobbed & Booby Trapped: How Modern Culture, the Fashion Industry and Politicized Medicine Conspire to Keep Women Sick and How YOU Can Get Healthy Again

depends on the moisturizer. I've used some with aloe or menthol that do make my skin burn (and I stopped using them).

I've settled on "cerave eczema creamy oil" as my main body moisturizer for when my skin is very dry and "cerave daily moisturizing lotion" for something i can keep on my desk (the pump kind) so that I can replace my scratching instinct with "apply pump of moisturizer". Before this new "cerave eczema creamy oil" cream came out (I first saw it on shelves this year) I was a big user of the cream tubs from cerave and cetaphil.

But like I said, these really only help dry skin. If the skin is irritated, I don't think they help me (other than help me not scratch).

If your son's skin is getting infected, you might look into chlorine baths. It's not something I've tried but a lot of people swear by them to help with infections on the skin.

What always works for me without fail is to go to the beach and just soak my body in the salt water for hours at a time. It stings the first couple of times, but after a week at the beach my skin is always 100% better. I'm actually considering moving to a place where I can more easily go to the beach more often because of it. I've been meaning to try salt water baths but haven't tried it yet.

Finally, you might try the eczema detox diet (in addition to the cuts you are already making) if you suspect food. She presents a lot of statistics (like 60% of eczema sufferers saw benefits when avoiding dairy (making that up)) and crafts a moderate "eczema detox" diet. She also has an elimination diet to help identify problem foods with a really restrictive approach. This last one is just the RPAH diet that you can google. I did the RPAH diet for 2 months and saw some slight reduction in symptoms but it convinced me my main triggers were not foods that I was regularly eating. On the other hand, I've cut out foods in the past (and haven't eaten them since) that I know have helped me.

I wish I could tell you how to make your son feel better. I have spreadsheets full of things to try because when it gets bad it pretty much consumes my life and I spend all my time doing research. In the end though, it just seems like my body changes with time.

Did your son get tested for environmental (respiratory) allergies?

This. I have all the same issues as the OP, though my weight fluctuates +- 10lbs. The gains and losses are always a reflection of hormone balance and gut health.

Books for OP:

Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal https://www.amazon.com/dp/1401948294/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8ubVBbAM4ADPZ

Medical Medium Thyroid Healing: The Truth behind Hashimoto's, Graves', Insomnia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules & Epstein-Barr https://www.amazon.com/dp/1401948367/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_VtbVBbRV68299

Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon https://www.amazon.com/dp/1401953093/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JvbVBbMEDKDGZ

This one doesn’t go into spirituality exactly, but it was a godsend to me. It’s a well-written, easy read and focuses heavily on stress management and emotional health as a means of achieving hormone balance: The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution: A Proven 4-Week Program to Rescue Your Metabolism, Hormones, Mind & Mood https://www.amazon.com/dp/0062476343/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DsbVBbK4WYSK5

Intermittent fasting isn't long enough, you have to prolong fast, minimum 15 days to 30 days in order to get full healing benefits of all the damaged and mutated cells in your body. Check out these links:

I'm not here to be aggressive and argue with you, I'm here to help. I understand that you have an autoimmune disease and are frustrated but you will never cure it will conventional medicine and pharmaceutical drugs. Crohn's is an inflammatory bowel disease, guess how you get rid of inflammation and heal your gut? By fasting and giving your gut a break from digesting food all the time and heal. Check out those links and best of luck to you.

Thank you for your educated insights in the discussion and I agree one must do further research and consult his or her physician before enacting any sort of treatment.

Regarding negative side effects of Boron, per NIH:

"Boron is LIKELY SAFE for adults and children when used in doses less than the Upper Tolerable Limit (UL) (see dosage section below). There is some concern that doses over 20 mg per day, the UL for adults, might harm a man’s ability to father a child."

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/894.html

Boron and its use in humans is interesting to myself because:

"There is no Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for boron since an essential biological role for it has not been identified."

and thus there are US few studies I have ever come across in my research. If one goes off the the standard scientific "grid" as-it-were and study anecdotal claims made by bodybuilders, ostensibly Boron helps to balance the endocrine system and seems to increase testosterone. However of course, these are simply anecdotal examples and not scientific evidence (myself excluded). I found this interesting and it does cite references, but it is nothing groundbreaking:

http://www.dcnutrition.com/minerals/detail.cfm?RecordNumber=47

Iodine is a touchy subject among some medical professionals if one does enough research. The only thing seem to be agreed upon is it is an important trace element and prevents goiter, the dosing amounts or how it should be distributed to the populace are usually subject to debate.

Regarding getting the RDA prescribed by NIH via salt in the diet, per Harvard:

"Most Americans take in more sodium than they need. Almost all of it comes from salt. But here's the rub: between 75% and 90% of sodium in the average American's diet comes from prepared or processed food, and most food companies don't use iodized salt. The so-called hidden salt in processed food is a great place to start trimming sodium from your diet, and cutting back on it will have little effect on your iodine intake.

To get all your iodine from salt, you would need more than half a teaspoon of iodized salt a day. That's two-thirds of the daily allotment of sodium (1,500 milligrams) recommended by the American Heart Association."

http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletters/Harvard_Heart_Letter/2011/June/cut-salt-it-wont-affect-your-iodine-intake

WebMD adds:

"Iodized salt is now the main source of iodine in the American diet, but only about 20% of the salt Americans eat contains the micronutrient, Dasgupta says."

"Dasgupta and colleagues recently tested 88 samples of iodized salt and found that 47 of them, or 53%, did not meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recommendations for iodine levels.

Iodine levels tended to decrease in individual containers with exposure to humidity, but light and heat had little effect.

The findings are published in the latest online issue of the American Chemical Society journal Environmental Science and Technology."

"Iodine is important in the production of thyroid hormones and critical to normal brain development in newborn infants and children. Iodine deficiency is the leading preventable cause of cretinism in the developing world. And at least one study suggests that children in developed countries born to iodine-deficient moms may have an increased risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)."

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20080201/can-us-shake-iodine-deficiency-risk

Thus, many Americans may be iodine deficient if they expect to get their RDA in their diets through iodized salt alone.

Regarding sugar, John Yudkin offered just the opposite opinion in his book, "Pure, White, and Deadly". I would type from it if I could find my copy as it an interesting read, however Robert Lustig M.D. makes the same essential argument in this 2009 video starting here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dBnniua6-oM#t=1218

Dr. Lustig goes on to show metabolically how and why fructose is toxic and shares metabolic characteristics with ethanol when being processed by the human body. You may find it interesting having a scientific background, I know when I first viewed it in 2013 I needed to watch it twice to fully understand his evidence not having such a background.

Have you looked over the Soap Queen's website? https://www.soapqueen.com/

I've been learning how to do this via her site, her book, and advice from my mother. I picked up her book Pure Soapmaking Friday and I love it. Things that I did not understand are sorting themselves out. She explains what each of the oils do, so you can understand why you would use them, goes over tips and tricks, explains why weird stuff happens to soap, goes over equipment...pretty much it's been an amazing starting point. The first 1/4 of the book is all the basics and the rest is recipes.

Full disclosure, this author also owns Bramble Berry, which is a US (not sure if you can order from the UK) soap supplier site. Having said that, most of my stuff I've purchased from other sources and it hasn't made a bit of difference. The site also does a lot of video tutorials.

I really suggest looking up YouTube videos, too. YouTube has been a huge help in sorting out what trace is, what different sorts of trace there are, and design info. I think YouTube soap stuff is addicting. Be careful. Search "soap making challenge" and get ready to watch a zillion of the most amazing videos. :)

Have you done a zinc-copper ratio test? if not, you are shooting in the dark and might do more harm than good. reading about zinc benefits is not enough. if you want to be succesful at this attempt, check this out https://www.amazon.com/Why-Always-Tired-Correcting-Breakthrough-ebook/dp/B003JBI37O

Usually I get the book free from http://gen.lib.rus.ec but I haven't found that one there hmmm It's really good tho, a must have, a must read.

I was under the impression that IUDs were usually reserved for women who have already been pregnant. Not sure about this.

And, of course, too much copper is bad for you: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0062515942/curezone-20

u/SH11814 · 1 pointr/cfs

One of my issues that I've had to deal without throughout my diagnosis with CFS is copper toxicity. Ann Louise Gittleman wrote a book about copper imbalances called "Why Am I Always So Tired?"
http://www.amazon.com/Why-Always-Tired-Correcting-Breakthrough/dp/0062515942
It talks about how vegetarian diets are high in copper and low in zinc - thus creating a mineral imbalance. I'm not saying that copper is everyones issue but correcting my copper imbalance gave me some symptom relief.

Actually this is incredically healthy.

(Sorry germaphobes and helicopter parents.)

There is all kinds of science behind how healthy it can be to get all the good microbes in dirt and how unhealthy we are because life is to sterilized. Citation: Dr John Axe: Eat Dirt, Maya Shetreat-Klein MD: Dirt Cure or any book on probiotics will confirm as well.
