Longtime Deadlands: Classic player & GM here

Poker chips for bennies is a really great way to pull people in as well as some western-y poker decks. Or another great way to go is actual Hoyle decks. You can still get them from ebay and they are not terribly priced.

I would also recommend some good western music. A good deal of our soundtrack is made up of tracks from The Pizza Tapes as far as "town" music and you can't go wrong with the Tombstone soundtrack

Bobby Slone was the bass player for J.D. Crowe and the New South, whose eponymous release remains one of the most influential bluegrass recordings of its time.

He was also the fiddle player on the Kentucky Colonels' Appalachian Swing!, which also featured a 19 year old Clarence White on guitar and his brother Roland on mandolin.

|about|Old and in the Way was a one-shot bluegrass band whose legacy lasted far longer than the band. Led by Grateful Dead member Jerry Garcia (banjo, vocals), the band also featured David Grisman (mandolin, vocals), Vassar Clements (fiddle), Peter Rowan (guitar, vocals), and John Kahn (bass). Garcia formed the band in 1973 as a way to revisit his bluegrass roots and demonstrate his affection for the music.|

i agree the vocals (aren't very good in general) and the piano aren't very bluegrass, and you're of course right that real appalachia music is pretty much all strings, but come on; surely you can recognize strong similarities outside of that archetype?

link me some tunes, i'd love to listen and find some new music (after i get back from the bar) one of my favorites right now is jim lauderdale, who i guess i could credit for my "blurred lines" of bluegrass genre classification (hoho)

this is the last time(i'm ever gonna hurt) (dat slide solo @ 1:20)

looking for a good place to land after a listen, try counting the bars on this one. pretty tricky

and of course, i met jesus in a bar
