I assume by your use of the term "nappy" you are from somewhere outside the US. Would you mind sharing where you can source scented nappy/diaper bags for cheaper?

This hypothesis doesn't quite hold true here in the US. Doggie bags are cheaper here; to the extreme that when my daughter was still in diapers, we kept one of the doggie bag clips with a roll on the diaper bag.

For just a quick example...

Munchkin Arm & Hammer Diaper Bag costs $7.79 US for 72 (0.108 each).

Earth Rated® Lavender-Scented Dog Waste Bags with Handles costs $6.99 US for 120 (0.058 each).

Or if you're okay with unscented, 220 for $7.99, or 0.036 each, or 700 for $14.99, or 0.021 each.

I rescued a german shepherd mix when he was about 2 months old and he just turned 2 years! He's awesome!

Here are some of my dog's favorites if you're lost on what to Wishlist on Amazon:

  • Hands down the best ball for fetch, if he likes fetch
  • And the launcher I like this one b/c you can just throw it in a backpack and it'll zip all the way closed (I like to keep a backpack w/ my dog's park toys, some treats, poop bags, wet ones/purell, and his shot records) The best thing about the chuck-it is that you don't have to pick up a slobbery ball.
  • Three very good chew bones
  • Advantage Multi if you're not often taking him onto tick-heavy hikes. If you need tick control, get Frontline and Interceptor for heartworm.
  • The best dog frisbee and I've tried a half dozen. Doesn't fly the best, but it's the most durable, safe, and flies great with a little practice.
  • This Car seat cover is great
  • Flexi leash is really handy when used appropriately.
  • Poo bags can never have enough of. and you go through them pretty quick.
  • Dog backpack great for burning off energy on walks/hikes, and makes them feel like they're doing an important job! I have this one in black. works great.
  • Collapsible water bowl handy for hikes/camping/outings
  • european style leather lead (leash) I'm preferential to the feel of leather for leashes/collars. And the european is absolutely the best - adjustable length and super easy to tether them to a pole/fence if you're eating outdoors or running into a store or something (of course use common sense when doing this!)
  • Harness I'm not a fan of harnesses - they're annoying to put on/take off and just encourage a dog to pull more. But if you want him to pull, towing you on a skateboard or something (my dog loves this) then it's great
Furminator GSD mixes don't need regular brushing, but this one works great for shedding season
Dremel for nail trimming GSD = black nails, a bit trickier to trim. I use this with lots of treats to put a nice round edge and take off a bit of length of my dog's nails. works good but get him accustomed to it slowly and with lots of treats. Pretty soon he won't mind.
*Zukes are great treats for training
  • Bowls that don't tip over. Easy to wash. can't break. My pick.
  • Big crate I use for vacations when I bring my dog but need to leave him in a hotel room or something. It's big and bulky but I like to give him room to move around comfortably.
  • A good shampoo I like hydrosurge unscented but it's not on Amazon =\
  • deodorizer I give my dog a little spritz between baths if he starts to get funky
  • A shower head like this makes bathing super painless. I just bring my dog in the shower w/ me along with some treats and it's quick and easy.
  • a scrubber like this gets my dog cleaner than I can with my hands. I found one at petco I like

Wow I kind of didn't realize I have so much shit for my dog. But he's family so...anyway. Also costco has great beds for $20ish (comparably $80+ from a petstore) They also carry Frontline, lots of treats (buscuits, duck breast jerkey - the best!) good food (Iams ProActive goes on sale once in a while, and they also carry Natures Domain salmon/sweet potato food that's really good).

You used ~2 bags a day last year? Why?

Dog waste bags are only about $0.02/piece. Not a big deal.

http://www.amazon.com/Poop-Bag-Shop-700-Count-Dispenser/dp/B00AOAT0H0

If this is hurting you this much, you can bring your bags of whatever design you like to the grocery store, and you can use the inexpensive bags for your dog waste.

Thanks for picking that shit up btw. Seriously, kudos.

This bag ban was necessary as people waste them like crazy.

u/pap3r_boy · 17 pointsr/toronto

Or pay 4 cents per bag instead of 2 and get the bio degradable kind. Surely it won't break the bank.

Edit: https://www.amazon.ca/Earth-Rated-Lavender-Scented-900-Count/dp/B008BGRXXM/ if you care to buy from and support a company that gives a shit about the environment rather than Amazon's brand which does not and generally treats their employees like shit. (Yes I see the irony in posting an Amazon link to the product)

u/LakotaSilver · 14 pointsr/cats

Goodness, what a cutie! She looks like a Chloe or an Emma to me ;}

Pretend as if you're about to adopt a very mobile, active toddler/baby human. Try to look around your home and see any things the cat might get into/eat/destroy and tidy up those things as much as possible. For example, if you have blinds on the window in your room, you might want to tie up the pull-strings so a curious cat can't grab them, and tuck electrical cords away as best you can. If you have any houseplants, google them online to make sure they aren't toxic (a good place to start is https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/cats-plant-list ). Cats definitely won't stop themselves from eating toxic plants - my 19-year-old idiot decided the green onions in the backyard looked tasty one day and tried a bite, and my 1-year-old idiot had a go at a poinsettia I had inside (it has since been exiled to the backyard - the plant, not the cat!)

I also personally NEVER leave out any toys that my cats can easily rip up and ingest parts of - this means nothing small and nothing with feathers, string, leather, or straw. Cats can get VERY sick and die if they eat string/"linear foreign bodies".

I only leave out sturdy "interactive" toys that the cats can initiate play with on their own, such as these:

https://www.amazon.com/Petmate-Crazy-Circle-Interactive-Large/dp/B0002AT5AO

https://www.amazon.com/Petstages-317-Tower-Tracks-Chase/dp/B00DT2WL26/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1487151213&sr=1-1&keywords=tower+of+tracks

Putting normal toys away when it isn't "playtime" also helps keep the cat from getting bored with the toys. And cats CAN be curious about the strangest things - they'll want to open cupboards and knock things off tables and investigate every box and bag that comes into the house. So if anyone in your house takes medicines, make sure the bottles are closed very firmly, and put away in a cupboard, things like that. If you have things that you collect (like statues or figurines) or if you have anything breakable, make sure it isn't sitting on a table where a cat can paw it off onto the ground! A cat will paw at/investigate everything. You can't protect them from everything, and no one can put away everything in their lives, but you can take a few precautions.

Another general word of advice I can give, and it's perhaps the most important one, is do not feed her kibble. No kibble at all. Feed her canned food only (preferably grain-free). Kibble is terrible and leads to a number of health problems, including urinary tract problems, kidney problems, and chronic dehydration (which leads to constipation). Long story short, for the best health, cats should be fed a grain-free canned formula high in meat protein, which is closer to their normal, natural diet, and no kibble whatsoever. Even the worst canned food is miles better than the "best" high-quality gourmet kibble. Kibble has no benefits at all. It is worth the $$$ to feed a canned food diet, you will save money in vet bills and dental cleanings overall.

If you are interested, the reason for wet food is this - cats have a very low thirst drive, as they evolved from desert-dwelling animals, and have changed very little after our "domestication" of them - genetically and physically, they're still pretty much 99% their ancestors. A wild feline is designed to get almost all of its moisture needs out of its prey (meat, blood) and thus has very little "urge" to drink. Even if you think a cat is drinking enough, it's not. Any cat on kibble is in a state of dehydration - they simply do not drink enough to make up for it.

The other benefit of high-protein, grain-free canned foods is that they have actual MEAT proteins, and will provide good, usable nutrients to your cats, instead of useless bulky grains and carbs. Most kibbles are mostly grains, which means they pass through the cat's digestive tract without being digested. The cat derives no nutritional value from them. On a good meaty canned food, cats will eat their meals and feel more appropriately full, because their bodies are able to actually digest the food they're eating. With kibble, especially free-fed kibble, a cat will always eat more than you realize they are, because they can't digest half of what they're eating, so they constantly feel hungry, because they're literally not getting the proper nutrition from their food.

Also - having cats on a species-appropriate diet will have one other benefit. Their poops will smell a LOT less! (On a raw diet, the poops will be small, dry, whitish, and they will have no smell at all. No joke. I can stick my entire head in the litterbox seconds after my cat drops a deuce and I can't smell a thing.) Cats bury their waste instinctively to protect themselves from being found by predators and competitors (other cats), so their bodies are designed to digest protein very efficiently and thus they will produce less waste and less smell when on an appropriate diet. And every cat owner wants a less stinky litterbox!

Fish is not an appropriate diet for cats - do not feed a food that is primarily fish or high in fish. Cats build up mercury in their bodies far faster than humans do, since they are smaller, plus fish causes other issues: http://www.littlebigcat.com/nutrition/why-fish-is-dangerous-for-cats/

Feed her A LOT. Kittens need to eat pretty much constantly as they are literally just calorie-burning growing machines ;} I've heard "feed a kitten as much as it will eat". Kittens usually need to eat up to 3x the recommended amount of adult food per day - when my younger girl was still a kitten, she would eat 6-7 cans (3oz each) per day. Keep offering food often - they need to eat every few hours.

Get vet checkups at least once a year (including dental checks/cleaning), and have her microchipped and have her wear a collar with ID tags at all times, even if you intend for her to be fully indoors. I have two friends, one in Arizona and the other in California, both who refused to put collars/ID tags on their cats because "oh, they'll never get out!" (One friend didn't even spay her cat, she was THAT convinced the cat would never escape.) Of course, both sets of cats got out - in Arizona through the carelessness of another family member, and in California as the result of a burglary that left a window smashed. One friend only found one of her cats. The other found hers, but the cat had gotten pregnant in the meantime. So, all cats should wear collars and ID tags, because no matter how careful YOU are, bad luck still happens!

Make sure you familiarize yourself with foods that are toxic to cats and keep them away from the cat - these include xylitol, chocolate, onions, garlic, and alcohol. As I mentioned before, many houseplants are toxic as well, such as poinsettias and lilies. Citrus fruits are toxic to cats. Many "essential oils" are also toxic to cats, so if you or anyone you live with uses scented oils or essential oils (such as tea tree oil), be careful.

Cats should instinctively use a litterbox. They do not want to "advertise" their presence to potential predators or rivals, so they should instinctively want to bury their waste to hide its scent.

You may want to get multiple litterboxes. The "general rule of thumb" is one box per cat plus one. Scoop every day! You can invest in rolls of "doggie-doo bags" like these - https://www.amazon.com/Bags-Board-Waste-Pick-up-Refill/dp/B000UCU53U I open one bag and put it next to me when I'm scooping the box. I drop the poops and pee-clumps into the doggie-doo bag, then tie off the bag and toss it! It helps keep stink to a minimum inbetween trash pickup days, and it's more sanitary than just dumping the bits straight into the trash can.

I also have my litterboxes on litter mats. They will save your sanity. This is my favorite one so far:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AUU90K0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A litter mat REALLY helps "catch" most tracked-out litter. I've also got one of these mats, which is great for its size but isn't AS easy to clean:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016PHLNRA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's all I can think up off the top of my head for now :} I'm definitely no cat expert, but feel free to ask any other questions you might have!

You can buy several hundred small bags at Amazon for like... $15.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AOAT0H0?psc=1

u/berdieus · 13 pointsr/WagWalker

Seasoned Wag walker here (~1000 walks). These are my top tips:

  1. All you absolutely NEED as a walker is your smartphone, so make sure it is charged. Invest in a portable charger if necessary.
  2. Bring a roll of poop bags. In my experience, ~50% of owners don't provide them. If you plan on doing this a while, buy the 900-pack on Amazon for 15 bucks.
  3. Never under any circumstances click "Start walk" until the dog is leashed and you're out the door. Literally 90% of problems I've seen on this sub occur because a walker clicked "Start walk" when they shouldn't have. If for any reason you are unable to get the dog leashed and out the door (i.e. can't get in to the residence, dog is nervous/avoiding you, the dog is being aggressive, whatever) either contact the owner or request a cover from Wag. Some walkers think "I'll just click Start walk and then end it immediately and explain what happened in the notes" which is the worst possible thing you can do.
  4. If the owner has a lockbox, make sure you close it and scramble it as soon as you remove the key. This may sound obvious, but I've seen some walkers who leave the lockbox open during a walk, which is baffling. Whether you keep the key with you during the walk is up to you (some recommend putting it back in the lockbox so you don't lose it, but I always keep it on me and in 1000 walks have never had a problem) but always close the lockbox immediately.
  5. After the walk, assuming the owner isn't home, it's common courtesy to fill the dog's water bowl (unless there are explicit instructions otherwise). It's important to audibly explain what you're doing as you're doing it (i.e. "Let's fill up your water bowl!") so in case someone is home or the owner has a camera, they know that you're not doing something you shouldn't be.
  6. Always knock and wait a few seconds before unlocking the door, even if the instructions don't mention anyone will be home. Because sometimes another family member or roommate or something might actually be there. If someone is home after you open the door, introduce yourself immediately with "Hi, I'm sophiac2121, your dog walker!"
  7. "Whitewash" your report cards. Don't lie, but for example if the dog was pulling like crazy the whole walk, say "we had a really energetic walk around the neighborhood!" Owners don't like hearing negative shit about their dogs.

This is a bit harder to deal with in entirety, but that's one of the reasons that reducing plastic where you can is so important. If dog poop bags are the only plastic you're wasting, that's still better than using 20 bags a week at a grocery store.

Anyways there are a few alternatives. First, biodegradable is a gotcha word. A lot of "biodegradable" products are only biodegradable if they're disposed of in commercial facilities that use a special process to break them down. Many of them would still take decades to break down outside of one of these facilities. Some things are completely compostable rather than biodegradable, like thin paper.

You use this to pick up poop and throw it directly into a trashcan or toilet and then you can rinse it off. Really not ideal at all, but if it doesn't bother you, it's a perfectly fine way to get rid of the plastic poo bags.

u/TheReformedBadger · 11 pointsr/pics

We used grocery bags until a friend recommended These to us. $12 They’ve lasted us like 2 years and the dispenser clips onto the leash so we only need to remember to grab a bag when the roll runs out. Super convenient and definitely worth the money.

u/TP3NG · 11 pointsr/dogs

I also found this one while browsing:
http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Supply-Technology-Patented-Dispenser/dp/B00TFYT02G/

1000 bags for $15 so it works out to be a tiny bit cheaper. This one also seems to be environmentally friendly
> EPI technology allows the bags to break down in 18~36 months

Anyone tried both/see a difference?

u/Zohar2_Zoharder · 10 pointsr/news

They do make biodegradable doggie bags. Here’s just one variation: https://www.amazon.com/Pogis-Poop-Bags-Earth-Friendly-Leak-Proof/dp/B00ISBWVTG/

We buy these. Eventually our diaper genie stopped keeping smells out and her room smelled disgusting, even when we replaced the filter. We did away with it all together. We throw all her diapers away in the kitchen trash. Wet diapers go in jut normal and poopy diapers go in the doggy bags. You don't smell anything.

u/Kaedylee · 9 pointsr/dogs

Earth Rated bags are pretty darn nice. They are not the cheapest option out there, but they are large and study. I frequently pick up two German Shepherd-sized poops with one bag and have never had any issues. Amazon sells them in bulk here.

u/binderclips · 9 pointsr/AprilBumpers2018

:( That does sound hectic. My registry is kinda all over the place because I've already bought a ton of stuff, but just some suggestions of some things (FTM so no idea really if these are good or not, some were recommendations from friends, some were recommendations from various online resources).

  • car seat, extra base if you have more than one car, and stroller
  • baby carrier - I got the ergobaby 360 with infant insert but the Lillebaby 360 is also super popular.
  • swaddles - aden & anais seem to be hugely popular.
  • bathing supplies - washcloths, bathtub
  • first aid kit supplies - NoseFrida, nail clipper, thermometer
  • feeding - bottles, sterilizer (some people told me I had to have it, some said it was totally unnecessary), bottle cleaner brush, drying rack (seems like everyone else loves the Boon grass, but I don't have the counter space!) You can get a pump through your insurance if you plan to breastfeed, I ordered mine through Aeroflow. I ultimately chose the Spectra S2 over the Medela PISA because it's a closed system, which apparently means less chances of bacteria getting into the system and thus easier cleaning.
  • burp clothes - I was told to just get a ton of cloth diapers to use as burp clothes, and to have them everywhere.
  • diaper pail - I have two friends who say this is good enough, so I went with it. They also said to use doggie poop bags to contain the smelly diapers.
  • humidifier
  • Boppy for nursing
  • Backpack style diaper bag
  • baby may need a more convenient place to be set down other than the crib, something you can have near you in the kitchen, shower, whatever. Popular options are the rock n play, Boppy lounger, or a pack 'n play. I plan on getting the Chicco FastAsleep pack 'n play because the crib/dresser/changing station is on our 2nd floor, so I figured this could double as a changing station/napper on the first floor.

Lucie's List is probably the best resource I found online.

If they're these poop bags, they are adorable and perfectly appropriate for a girl's birthday party gift bag. They are just sheer plastic bags.

It seems that the mom has some self-esteem problems that are exacerbated by perceived competition with, or a desire to measure up to the other moms. She needs to refocus her attention on what matters: her relationship with her spouse and daughter, and what their own family values are.

Sometimes the people who present the most controlled version of their lives are actually the most unhappy. The moms with the perfect birthday parties may be on the verge of divorce, or suffering from depression, or dreadfully unhappy. Every family has some sort of challenges. We don't all live in a magical, perfect world.

This is my favorite running belt. It's got a key-leash that I keep my house key and poop bag holder on (hanging out of the belt, obviously) and is entirely open inside, so plenty of room for my phone (but still easily grabbable for spinning pokestops) and unused poop bag rolls. The poop bag holder is amazing and, whether it's clipped to you or your doggo, it will hold 4 bags easily, if necessary.

EDIT: It's also got the perfect treat pocket!!

u/schmooby · 6 pointsr/Pets

I live in an area without easy access to them, so these ones.

Scented and large enough for my stupidly huge dog.

u/triskellion88 · 6 pointsr/Winnipeg

most pet stores are similiar in price and supply choice. Pet Value tends to be a bit higher, but otherwise all the box stores are around the same. Costco is great for larger dog beds. Amazon is truly your best bet for most pet supplies, especially poop bags. I bout these two years ago, have two dogs and am maybe half way through them.

u/NewtonGimmick · 6 pointsr/Hawaii

I'm down for that, too, and have spoken about it on this sub in the past.

It's a multi-faceted problem.

As for the dogs whose owners don't pick up their shit - I think this should all apply to them as well. It pisses me off when people don't pick up after their dogs or they'll pick it up and just drop the bag right back on the ground/in a bush. There are already so few beaches/parks where dogs are allowed and this kind of behavior does us no favors.

Dog bags are cheap - you can get 900 great quality bags for $15 on amazon. There's absolutely no excuse to not pick up after your dog.

Also, I don't hate people who feed these feral animals. But to claim they have compassion for them is disingenuous due to the serious medical issues many of them face which go ignored/untreated by those feeding them.

u/smithandjohnson · 5 pointsr/California

Except there's already more convenient options for handling dog waste, as well as biodegradable options, which free plastic bags from the store never were.

> and for dog poop/garbage

People think they're helping the environment by re-using these bags for things like trash and dog poop, but that's the problem that's trying to be solved. Putting dog shit in a bag that takes a thousand years to break down is absolutely no different than just chucking the bag in a landfill. The whole point is that we need to replace these bags with something better, like "single-use specially-designed bags." Trust me, those bags aren't going to break your budget.

Also comes with a convenient roll holder I can just clip onto the leash.

Not exactly weird, but potentially embarrassing, poop bags!!!. I know it's necessary, but it is impossible to look cool while carrying a bag of poop around. Can't be done.

When I was in college, we we pulled a decent April fools prank on my roommate. We were about a month from graduation, and one of my roommates had taken a couple of summer courses at another college that he needed to graduate. Earlier in the day, I had been in the Dean's office, and I stole some letterhead. We typed up a letter from the Dean telling him that his credits from that summer had not successfully transferred and, as such, he would not be graduating in May. We had a friend who worked in the mail room and he put the letter in his mailbox. He came ripping into our suite red in the face, screaming at the top of his lungs about how this was bullshit and he was going to sue the University, and how his parents had donated thousands of dollars to the school and no way could they stop him from graduating. The best part; The contact number we put on the letter was to our female friend's room, and she pretended she was the secretary and totally played along with it. We had to physically restrain him from marching out the door to the dean's office to yell at him. He was PISSED when we told him what we did...but he eventually got over it.

An embarrassing fact about me. I was once ticketed for public urination by a New York City cop on horseback. It was the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. If I hadn't just pissed on a dumpster, I definitely would have wet my pants.

Thanks for the contest!

u/coberst · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Aww first off thanks for the contest! If we are dreaming big then this would be it. I am currently trying to cook and prepare more foods at home for both health and cost savings since being the unemployed bread winner of the house.
For the under 20 contest I could go for some poop bags; my 135lb dog takes big poops and I wouldn't have to buy more for a while :)

Again, thanks for the contest.

u/mirgaine_life · 3 pointsr/dogs

I bought this bulk pack about 6 months ago and am about halfway through the package. The bulk pack is the exact same product as the three options on your subscription page.

Amazon also has one kind for subscribe and save where it will automatically send it every two months (and it would be the same as the $10 plan for 60 bags a month, but cost $5 for two months).

That subscription plan seems way too expensive.

  • The bulk pack I linked is 3.8 cents a bag and comes with two dispenser holder for 900 bags (each time you reorder you get two more dispensers).

  • The subscribe and save on Amazon costs 4.3 cents a bag. No dispenser.

  • Your subscription purchase is 16.6 cents a bag on the $10 plan and has one free dispenser for your first order.

I don't mind spending under 4 cents on each bag for my poochie (usually 2-3 bags a day, which cost to me is $3.60 a month if she used all 3 bags a day). I have more than I need and once I run down to only a few rolls I'll do another order.
u/skittlesnbugs · 3 pointsr/dogs

I need three bags a day for my beast. I don't shop in grocery stores, I order all my food through amazon or community supported agriculture programs. I go to the grocery store about once a month for meds. Which don't even come in plastic bags.

I need about ninety bags a month for dog shit, and thirty larger bags a month for cat shit. Even if I grocery shopped, that's 120 bags a month! I buy it all in bulk on Amazon. I don't see how else I could support my household poop problem.

Seriously - the regular ones' opening isn't wide enough to accommodate your hand and...the offending contents when you go to turn it inside out. You will have a bad time.
These are the ones I use.

u/penny_dreadful_mess · 3 pointsr/dogs

I don't use them every day but I try and make sure I have a mutt mitt with me. They are the best bags hands down. They have a little pouch at the bottom which assists with pick up. They are also super easy to flip and I've never had an issue with poop up the side of the bag, which happens regular with my everyday bags. I use them for any "unusual" poops (soft, large, in a f*cking bush). If your dog has digestive issues they are a life saver. If your dog regularly has solid, normal sized poops, they might cost more than you want (though I'm thinking of switching exclusively to them from the amazon basics as they are that great)

u/TheMereWolf · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

We use these poop bags. We get the big boxes and carry a roll of the bags on a dispenser attached to the leash and it takes quite a while to go through all of them. Plus if you tie it up tight it’s not really all that smelly, and the bags are really thick which is nice.

u/pinkpurpleblues · 3 pointsr/legaladvice

OP invest in something like this. My poop bag holder came with something like that free. It's really nifty. It holds the poop for the rest of the walk until I can find a trash I can use (my parks area has receptacles placed throughout) and I don't have to touch the bag.

ETA: this is actually much closer to what I have.

Don't know where op lives, but here poop bags are mostly made out of bioplastic, which makes them even better, because better for the environment. So yes use poop bags for your not poop related needs, they are pretty fine.

P.S i found the pink heart design bags, they are pretty cute: https://www.amazon.com/Scented-Pet-Waste-Poop-Refills/dp/B07DHVDPY7/ (and yes biodegradable).

pro tip my friend. these are doggie poo bags. we have 3 dogs (used to have 4) and these baggies were a life saver. way cheap too. only $15 for 1000 bags!!! once you put diaper into it and tie it up, it's pretty much smell proof. we would dump into a small trash can near the changing table.

i also found that brand of diaper really helps. those cheap target ones.......nah. it's expensive, but we use pampers. heck if it's good enough at the hospital, it's good enough for you :)

Very happy with their Paper Shredder, much less so with their poop bags (not reliably fully perforated).

I like these Earth Rated bags.

Supposed to be biodegradable. I mean, yeah, you can get more bags for less, but this box of 900 bags has lasted me 1.5 years so far. I can handle an extra $0.75 or whatever per month to use a greener product. Further, they're definitely superior to the cheapo bags that tear easily. And they're scented so they smell nice.

Just pick out a decent poop bag and be done with it. Picking up after them with your hand in a bag isn't exactly the greatest thing, but I really don't see any reason to make it more complicated than it has to be. I personally use Earth Rated bags since they're big enough, aren't thin like many others I've tried, and are scented.

u/woof_woof_mf · 2 pointsr/youseeingthisshit

These poop bags changed my life lol Mutt Mitt. There’s two layers of thick bag. The thick black double bag part makes such a huuuge difference. These are thicker than my garbage bags at home. Isn’t as warm and squishy either. My dog love pooping in stick piles and cactus areas ugh. I’ve tried a bunch of different types of bags bc we are outside a lot and these work amazing. Haven’t had a hole yet and I even grab sticks away first (like if the poop hits higher in the stick and I don’t want to get it on my arm I just break away the poop-ka-Bob smaller and add to the pick up). Cactus, stick, pine needles, thrones, those damn burr sticky balls ugh. We are in the mountains and desert a lot. We back pack and I pack out the poop.

Hope this helps!

Not an issue: buy your own bags. You ought to have your own bags if you are a dog owner anyway. I've been buying these for years, they are better than what you find in dispensers. There are always four in my back pocket. Always.

You could use junk mail. Or old newspaper (a couple layers). And if you don't want to just have a poopy paper ball in your hands carry a small wet bag (like folks use for cloth diapers, Planet Wise makes some cute ones) and keep it in there, dump when you get to a trash can. Or there is a reusable poop bag

u/FreddyMcCurry · 2 pointsr/dogs

u/PM_ME_UR_FAV_RECIPE · 2 pointsr/Omaha

In an ideal world, yes. But most people will either use bags they have from the store or the cheap ones from the local pet store or Amazon. Neither are biodegradable. I buy biodegradable bags. You can buy almost 1,000 of them for under 30 bucks. Owning a dog is a responsibility, and part of that responsibility is cleaning up your dog's shit from where adults and children play. If you can't handle that, don't have a dog.

You should try the Mutt Mitt bags. They are all that I use now! Some of the parks in our city offer them at the dog stands, and I got addicted to using them, so now I buy them. I fold them up really tight and shove them into a clip-poopbag-holder instead of using a roll, I can get about 4 in there at a time.

Seriously, after using a double-bagged bag (Mutt Mitt), I feel so gross scooping with a flimsy thin poop bag now!

I like dogs and I get pissed off at people who don't clean up after their dogs. If it's your yard, you can do what you like. There's no excuse not to have a bag or two to clean up your dog's shit on a walk or park though. There are even convenient dispensers you can attach the the leash.

u/kt-bug17 · 1 pointr/AmItheAsshole

This is a tricky one. From my experience in a more urban environment most people don’t care because trash cans in the alley are sort of “communal” and you often have multiple cans to choose from. While in more suburban residential areas people do care because you only have one specific trash can that resides on your property.

While of course the most important thing here is that you are picking up your dog’s poop, people in the burbs can be really touchy about their trash cans. So while I don’t think you would be TA to some of your neighbors YWBTA. It would probably be best to keep the peace and save the baggie to throw away at home. I use something like this to hold the poop baggie on walks, maybe look into one of those.

u/JimGerm · 1 pointr/trashy

I suspect there is no perfect solution. I'd prefer everyone just pickup after their dog and throw away the bags. The bags I use appear to degrade but it probably takes several years (better than thousands of years though).

u/AlmostCalvinKlein · 1 pointr/dogs

I really like the [Earth Rated](Earth Rated 270-Count Dog Waste Bags, Lavender-Scented Poop Bags, 18 Refill Rolls https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSYR7K8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wY1OzbEJ8JG2K) poop bags. They're cheap, the packing is made from recycled materials, and the lavender ones do a good job of blocking the poo smell.

I feel like most poop bag dispensers are made really cheap and don't last long before they're falling apart. SafetyPup has this amazing treat bag/poop bag dispenser that I absolutely love. It's super durable, and it holds everything I need for a walk or short hike. I can carry a full bag of treats, 2 rolls of poop bags, key, cell phone, and ID. It's honestly one of my favorite dog products I own!

That may be. The ones I used already had a clip on them for a full poop bag, which was great. Though the velcro strap that attached it to the leash handle was also sub-par after buying two. After the third time chasing a roll of poop bags I went with a "backpack" type one and like it.

u/ninjawa · 1 pointr/dogs

After having 2 poop bag holders unscrew on me within 3 weeks and me getting fed up, I bought this bag holder, which is similar to the one /u/surlylemur linked, along with this clip because I wanted to have a clip. I have them attached to my leash in a way that doesn't have anything dangling (because another problem with the plastic poop bag holder with a clip was that my other leash would often get caught in the clip). I can take a picture of the setup when I get home and post it, if you want to see.

Edit: here's a pic of my setup https://imgur.com/YXf0sjZ.jpg

I'm not a fan of the ban, but I'll just buy two dozen reuseable bags, 3 or for insulated ones, and adjust.

I'd recommend an exercise pen. It's helpful for house training/crate training. Here's the setup we had for our puppy (the wood chips were her potty spot instead of pee pads), and at about 12 weeks we were able to remove the potty spot entirely.

Also:

  • more things to chew on than you think are necessary, ideally with different textures (my puppy likes bully strips, pigs ears, ham bones, and beef knuckles)
  • brush/nail clippers/ear cleaner (depending on the breed)
  • enzymatic cleaner for acidents
  • poop bags (this one comes with the poop bag dispenser too)

Oh man, it's gonna be a wild ride for you. I spent over a year researching dogs before I got my pup and it's still been tough. I'm not here to lecture though, since I'm sure you've already heard enough of it by now, so will do my best to offer some advice.

  1. Check out Simpawtico's videos on how to train your new pup. He's super informative and explains things in a simplistic, easy to understand way.
  2. Crate train your pup. It will save your sanity and also be good for pup. Here's a sample schedule. Also, this website offers a step by step instruction.
  3. As for food, I personally think you should put the effort in to research this yourself. I think choosing a diet and food for your dog is a very personal thing as it needs to consider your own budget and values. This website breaks down a lot of dog food brands. Some ppl appreciate it and some ppl don't think it's reliable. You decide. I can tell you which one I bought if you dm me.
  4. Here's some very informative resources you can read up on. It'll help with before you get your puppy, after getting your puppy, house training, etc.
  5. Puppy Blues are a thing and it's okay to have it. You can find other ppl's stories on reddit & they're comforting bc at least you know you aren't alone.
  6. Have treats ready.

Some things to expect the first week:

-WHINING. They will whine. Ignore them if you've already taken them out to potty and fed them. If you give in, then you will teach them that whining gets them attention. Can't hold it against them though. They're scared and in a completely new place away from their mom and litter.

    - They may not eat that much the first few days. My vet said this is normal since they are still adjusting to their new environment.

    - Take the pup for a vet exam. Don't just trust the word of whoever/wherever you got them from.

    - They potty all the time lol...pls still take your new pup out at night. Mine was 8 weeks old when I got her and I took her out every two hours in the middle of the night. I still do every 2.5 hrs because she's only 10 weeks old now. Goodbye to an uninterrupted 8 hour nights rest. You can slowly extend the time as they get older.

    Some essentials I bought:

  1. Poop bags I didn't think I needed this many, but boy oh boy, I do.

  2. Crate

  3. Play Pen For when you can't supervise as closely. I also like it bc it teaches them that they can't always have access to you

  4. Puppy Shampoo They'll probably get dirty soon lol. Or maybe they smell when you picked them up.

  5. Dog tag Way cheaper than petco's and is okay quality

I'd recommend shopping at TJMaxx for dog toys. It's wayyy cheaper than anywhere else I've found.

Overall, just keep working with your pup and be consistent with them. Consistent with your expectations, routine, training, etc and it'll get better slowly. I know I've only had my pup for 2 weeks so maybe I'm not the most credible person based on experience, but I've definitely put a lot of effort into learning as much as I could before I got her. Hopefully some of this is of some help.

    Good luck!
