Something like this may help give you piece of mind, it braces the door and makes it impossible to open without breaking in (no install required):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N95IVSQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3/131-9636531-7480519?ie=UTF8&qid=1523639322&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Floor+Door+Lock&dpPl=1&dpID=41%2BC74ocfzL&ref=plSrch

Consider getting a door jammer DoorJammer Portable Door Lock Brace for Home Security and Personal Protection https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N95IVSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_huAMDbSYFV7MK

Tomorrow, go down to your home improvement store and get an Angel lock. If that doesn't fit your door, look for a floor lock.

Keep your phone charged and keep it with you. Look up how long average police response times are in your neighborhood, and make plans accordingly.

Stay safe.

Just buy some variation of this:

This will fix the problem while you are at home at least. If they say they want to come in, say there was no notice.

The lock on the door is this in white:

It's a door wedge alarm. Not the exact model, but close.

Sorry. Just a random thing I noticed.

u/cardinal29 · 40 pointsr/legaladvice

I'd put a chain up, and use it whenever you are home. If you can't do that (screw holes, etc.) there are security door stoppers or this device that stops maintenance people, even if they have a key.

So this absolute toenail of a woman has violated yours and SO's boundaries multiple times? She's been told a dozen time to cut that shit out and hasn't?

Get a lock for your door.

Can't do any damage to your door or frame of the door with screws because it's a rental or you're staying temporarily?

I got you.

Doorjammer. Easy operation, slide and adjust.

Addalock. Installs quickly, no tools needed, and easier to hide in case someone for whatever reason throws a fit about the door being locked.

Also, something else.

Door Stop Alarm. It doesn't lock the door, but it lets out a hell of a noise when it's tripped. Wanna embarass this toenail or just feel like being a bit petty? Boom, noisemaker.

No one is allowed into your room without permission. It is yours and SO's space, not for anyone else to invade. She is stomping your boundaries, and has not listened after being told to cut it out.

Is there an off chance that this woman is experiencing dementia? It might explain [but not excuse!] why this keeps happening.

u/spinollama · 33 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

This is going to sound like a really weird recommendation, but my roommate works midnights sometimes and it really weirds me out to sleep in my apartment alone. We have a security system, but I also bought these. If you wedge them under an interior door that opens inward, it's REALLY hard to open it. You'd basically have to break the entire door. It's a small thing, but it makes me feel more safe when I have nights alone.

u/ParamediCali · 32 pointsr/premed

Congratulations! Bring one of these with you for good luck.

Does it keep the door from marring the wall?

The common things I see most people regret not bringing initially:

  • A bit of snack food to keep in your dorm. You never know when you might be hungry and the dining hall is closed.
  • A doorstop - Keep your door propped open. It's the best way to get to know everyone on your hall as they walk to/from class. My first year RA gave everyone on the hall a doorstop and it was the best thing he could have ever done. None of us ever ate at the dining halls alone. Someone would always be walking down the hall sticking their heads in everyone's rooms wanting to go to dinner.
  • It sounds silly, but school supplies and notebooks. I was dumbfounded by how many people on my hall First Year were running out to buy notebooks and pencils the day before classes.
  • A small bluetooth speaker - super versatile. Can be used anywhere from soft study music in your dorm, to hanging out outside or on The Lawn. Speakers aren't your thing? Bring a nice set of headphones to dampen out some of the noise if you're trying to study.
  • A set of utensils and 1 or 2 plates... You order some take out food? You bring some food home from O'hill? How are you going to eat it?
  • A couple recreational activities. Whatever floats your boat: Frisbee, football, XBox, boardgames, a bike, running shoes, etc. You can't do schoolwork 24/7
  • Sweatshirts and jackets - I know you probably would bring them eventually, but C'ville has crazy temperature changes within a day and it's not uncommon for September mornings to be chilly enough to require a jacket. So bring them now as opposed to after you go home for Fall break or so.
  • A daily organizer. I didn't have one for my first two months. And after I got one, it changed my life... no more forgotten assignments, no more quizzes I forgot the date for, it kept me super, super organized.
  • A positive, healthy attitude. Make the most out of your 4 years. You are going to have the time of your life. There will be hard times, but go in with a positive attitude and you'll always bounce back from anything life throws at you. You'll find a family on Grounds. Enjoy and Go Hoos!

Ramadan is from May 5th until June 4th this year per Google.

Add a door brace or door stops for when you are in your room.

Is getting a hotel or airbnb for a couple of nights a week an option?

u/flurrypuff · 17 pointsr/LetsNotMeet

I’m a fan of some sort of doorstop too. They even make products like this that you can even take when you travel!

u/SpiceCake68 · 16 pointsr/EDC

You could always get one of these.

Edit: link for actually buying one.

u/Ageez85 · 16 pointsr/LetsNotMeet

The neighborhood watch is a really good idea. If ur able to talk with the people that live directly by you, next door, across the hall, and let them know what has happened, possibly exchange numbers so you have people right by you to call if u get spooked. Maybe some can even step outside their apartment when you get home from work and wait till you get inside.

Also there are many different products like this doorjam hopefully I did the link correctly 1st time I’ve done one but that might help you feel little more secure. This is just an example I haven’t researched them so don’t know which ones are most effective.

Weird situation. I would think if people wanted to break in or do something else they wouldn’t draw so much attention to themselves beforehand but who knows. Glad your husband got some time off to stay with you. Sorry u have to deal with this idiot. I hope it stops and things get better for you guys, be safe.

I don't imagine carrying this around inconspicuously into the office washroom every day.

u/derspiny · 10 pointsr/legaladvice

At this point it's unlikely that the legal system has a lot to offer you. It's a fairly blunt instrument, and most legal protections kick in after the fact, not pre-emptively. Even a restraining order would generally require a pre-existing pattern of harassment or violence, which isn't evident from your post.

You're doing the right thing by prioritizing getting out of this situation. In the interim, it might be worth keeping your phone charged and on your person whenever you're at home, and locking the door when you use the bathroom. If you want something a little stiffer than a bathroom privacy lock, removable door braces exist, but they're ultimately only as strong as the door itself.

Depending on how comfortable you feel with this, you may also want to sit your roommate down and spell out, clearly, that your sexual relationship is over, that he is no longer to touch you for any reason, and that you will treat continued unwanted touching as sexual assault. That's very confrontational, and you can expect your roommate to be angry… but enforcing this boundary is important to you and to your safety, and his anger is his problem.

He cannot legally lock you out over this. If you aren't on the lease, he can give you notice to terminate your tenancy, but that gives you a full month to find another place to live.

After you replace the door with a metal security door, get a set of these with a 2x4

u/Bricker1492 · 6 pointsr/legaladvice

Oh, no! Not anxiety?

Sadly, your anxiety is not a particularly relevant factor. The landlord generally has the right to do things like place lock boxes, which are a standard practice for realtors.

If it will help your anxiety, perhaps can invest in https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Personal-Protection/dp/B00N95IVSQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=DBZ8MUT2B9P6&keywords=door+jammer+portable+door+security+device&qid=1556402640&s=gateway&sprefix=doir+jammer&sr=8-3

This lets you secure your door from inside while you’re home, even in the face of a person armed with a key. You could then answer the door and confirm that it’s a real estate agent and not a ne’er-do-well.

But you have to let the agent in.

Get one of these door wedges then it can't easily be opened even if unlocked.

u/Hendursag · 6 pointsr/legaladvice
u/wickedpixel1221 · 5 pointsr/legaladvice

You can get a door jammer to use when you're home. You can simply not answer the door and the landlord will not be able to enter. It's removable and requires no alteration to the apartment. If you're (rightfully) concerned able people being in your apartment when you're not there it may be worth the investment to get a couple cheap cameras.

Typically you put those on the wall where the doorknob makes contact-- it prevents it from punching a hole in the drywall. Is there another doorknob that contacts that door in that exact spot?

Here they are on Amazon.

It's also possible that somebody used them to cover holes or damage? Are they in the same spot on every door?

I am not sure if you are traveling in a single location or multiple areas for your work, but either way I would scout the area and locate various points of interest. Police, medical, fire, grocery/supply stores. Also educate yourself about possible natural risks such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados and flesh out a plan for what you would do in such an event. See if the hotel has a evacuation plan for emergencies and review it.

Do you have a door wedge security device for your hotel, it will increase your safety in the room and help prevent intrusion. Something like this

Got a 2 pair of door bar brackets from some small outfit. They are NOT the bitch shit most places push out of some machine. Dude uses thick steel and excellent welds. Each door bracket uses 8 lag bolts to adhere to King/Jack stud besides doors. I am a land lord and would only want my tenants to tell me first so I can make sure they install correctly. None have but I'd ask first.

PM for site because a ton of people get all hot and bothered when you link something. IDK something something spam...

I've had good luck with these rubber door stops as a 'stand' for my CST. They are stackable as well so you can fine tune your angle. I use a 4 pack for my CST (2x stacked side by side). I don't have a close-up pic as it's at my office but here is a pic of my overall setup.

You'd be better off staying in your dorm than venturing out in almost every situation. If I were you I'd get two or three of those collapsible 5 gallon water jugs (you can fill up form a showerhead or tub) and get at least two week's worth of dehydrated food or MREs. If you don't have a bathroom in your dorm room you should find some way to get rid of your urine/feces. A painters bucket from Home Depot with a top would do well, as long as you can dump it out your window if needed. I would stock up on baby wipes- more than you think you'd need- put those in the bucket. Get a crowbar and hammer so you can open up other rooms to forage if you need to- you can use pillow cases in the rooms to put things in. Get a can opener and a spoon. Get a baseball bat for defense- looks innocent enough on its own and won't raise hard to answer questions. Your dorm room has a solid door and you have all of your clothing and bedding there- so plan on bugging in and stay quiet. If you can afford it, get a [door jammer] (https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Device-Travel/dp/B00N95IVSQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1479072334&sr=1-3&keywords=door+security) to secure your door when you're in your room. Do not open your door to anyone or you risk losing what you have stocked up. Get duct tape and giant black lawn leaf bags so you can cover up windows if you have to. Have a small bag full of things to make [improvised alert system] (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2014/09/05/detroit-fire-department-has-alert-system-made-of-pop-cans/77199950/) for your hallways.

All in all you could do all of this for under 200-300$ and it's all stuff that you can use when you get an apartment.

u/CoolHandMike · 2 pointsr/DIY
u/kim_wexlers_ponytail · 2 pointsr/RBI

Until you can get the locks changed and install a deadbolt, get yourself one of these door jammers pronto. You only use it when you're inside, so it doesn't violate any landlord right to entry (since you can let them in when you're home.)

You might also want to get a cheap nanny cam and aim it at the door for when you're not home, so you'll know if anyone is entering when you're not home.

I feel so bad about this whole situation. You could try 'locking' your door like this or at least put something heavy or a wedge against it from inside. Please consider letting your mom know about the gore porn, at least. It's still very bad.

u/MB38 · 1 pointr/gifs

Product link here. Looks like you can get them for about $25 on Amazon.

u/GeneralMalaiseRB · 1 pointr/CCW

I just tried installing one of these last week. There just wasn't enough of a gap. I put the hinge protectors on, and the door had to be forced to close the last couple inches. With either the deadbolt or doorknob guard or the long frame plate installed, the door wouldn't even close. It's a metal door frame so I can't mortise anything. I took it all off and I just have to live with some extra-long screws.

And, it's not a great metal frame, and it's a pretty standard door. The metal frame probably helps some, but it's not heavy duty by any means.

So I'm going to just get a set of these and say FTW.

A total of 7 separate orders. It was a bit annoying because I was mostly on my phone and the mobile apps/chrome wouldn't load properly. Also I would have preferred to bundle orders but oh well. or try to use more coupons but they only give you so many minutes in the cart and sometimes the next item that you're waiting for a deal to start is right outside that window.

It's nice to finally have something that's there all the time. For a while, I was using a sledge hammer, and then a 5 gallon bucket that was about 1/3 of the way filled with concrete. The bucket would always fill up with water after the rain, and I'd always get water on me when trying to move it.

I had this same issue a few years ago. We figured it came from the hallway and into the bottom of the door. They offered exterminators but they only did it once.

So my solution after trying everything out was as simple as placing glue traps EVERYWHERE. Gluetraps are safe, they don’t harm pets, no chemical warfare into your kitchen, and easy to dispose.

What you do is place them where you’ve seen some of them hanging out. Put some in the cabinets too. They particularly like being in spice cabinets or where there’s consistent moisture like under the sink or by the sink. I also layer them flat around the walls.

It’s also worth noting that when you get a few trapped, you need to keep em there for just a short while longer because it invites the others. Once the majority of the surface has been covered then fold them (if not) and step on it to kill them and dispose it

This set from amazon is a 75 bulk set. That should be enough.

Catchmaster 75M Bulk Mouse and Insect Glue Boards, 75-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IMZ9TC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vZwvDbDX9AZNE

You should also consider getting a draft stopper. This stops airflow from coming through the bottom of the door but it also helps keep the bugs out. This helps tremendously especially when you have a large gap between the door and the floor.

Door Draft Stopper - High Performance Silicone Door Sweep w VHB Adhesive 3M Strip | Draft Blocker for Under Door Seal Gap Interior & Exterior Doors Weather Stripping Soundproof | Draft Guard Insulator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DMSPWGS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u5wvDbGFM5YG4

Once you’ve finally handle the situation, you should try chalking your floor. Look for colored chalk like brown or beige to match your floor. Amazon sells these cheap but you may be able to find them even cheaper at small hardware stores or even Home Depot.

I was able to get rid of every single one of the roaches in one month.

Good luck.

Being polite and responding to a casual greeting like 'How are you?' is FAR from an invitation for him to start aggressively hitting on you (or soliciting you for prositution), especially when you have already rejected him quite blatantly on many other occasions. Don't be afraid to be more direct with him, firmly tell him in no uncertain terms that you are not and will never be interested in him. Is there any way for you to get out of there and into a different place? If not, maybe you can talk to your landlord about having him removed? Regardless, you should invest in some kind of door lock ASAP- they are fairly easy to install yourself. This could be another good option.
