I have a set of these for random bits & sockets and they're great for helping with the often small and near invisible markings they come with. The foil is pretty sturdy so they'll take a bit of abuse and you don't need to buy any new tools, just slap them right on the ones he has now. Master set runs about $15. Should have everything he needs from sockets to insert bits

could always get one of these or build one with alligator clips. If the cigarette lighter works with the ignition off they make one that plugs into the socket.

For sinking and sourcing I use one of these.

This set has worked very well for me.

On the bright side, that led me to https://www.amazon.com/Delphi-GT-150-Female-Terminals-Gauge/dp/B07JMJ9CH1/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Aptiv+%28formerly+Delphi%29+gt+150&qid=1554329491&s=gateway&sr=8-3 which I'm fine with buying a lot of the connectors as there's another project I've really yet to begin that will need those extra ones...

Now for the socket =/

Edit: Oh and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005K006QS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the crimper (I think).

You're gonna wanna get some terminal picks like these.

Ive had luck with just a cheap harbor freight pick set and making my own but the kits work so much better

I got my Helix sub installed close to 2 months ago, here's where I got everything (tax and shipping excluded):

  • Helix Sub, Rick Case VW, $479.20 (link). There was an additional mail-in 15% rebate going on through Q1 on VW rebates, but now it's 10% on Q2. Haven't received that additional mail-in yet, it's up to 90 days for it to come in. You need to buy from a VW dealer to qualify, but I think it puts you generally ahead compared to ECS, ShopDAP, etc.
  • Long screw and short screw from VW parts vortex, $10.96 total. You don't really need the additional short screw, you just need the long one. I ended up using both nuts (plus having the extra spare that you already have on your car) to hold the spare tire and sub each, but you really just need the one on top of it all.
  • Radio removal key, $7.49. Not a bad deal, you need them.
  • Audio terminal removal keys, $7.95. Don't cheap out, you want to have a set of these. They make the involved step super easy.
  • Helix programmer, Golf MK7 forum, $100 deposit, $10 rental. The guy handling that thread is super on top of it, just get on the list. It's worth it, helps clean up the sound, specially on mid to high volume. My sub came pre-programmed for a Jetta as indicated by the tool, there was a noticeable difference.
  • Wiring harness jumper 000-051-727-B, got it from ShopDAP for ~$20). You don't need this jumper AT ALL, buuuuut it does enable you to take the sub out and use the stock system by just plugging at the end of the harness going to the sub. Awesome if you ever need the trunk space, I just keep it in my tools bag in the car. Doubt I'll use it more than once or twice, but it's there!
  • Some bone / plastic tools make the panel removal process easier, your choice on these.

That was my best attempt at saving money when I did it. The sites that claim $300 or so where when they cleared inventory of the previous revision and then released B. Couldn't find a better combination of discounts and rebates.

These 4 videos were all I needed to install it, there's overlap between them. Video 1, video 2, video 3, video 4.

I had a MK7 with the Fender system but totaled it, replaced with a MK7.5 without Fender (SE). Helix is better (a little more powerful), so nothing to envy on Fender, although Fender has the advantages of not having to deal with any of the installation and retaining the lower floor with a spare.

Sounds like you need to depin the connector?

I'm sure what you need is here:

And I'm pretty sure that's a 10 pin connector? I'd just depin the whole thing and repin into a new connector. Make sure you note where the wires all go.

Edit: Just realised you said it was sheared off the intake side. I'd get a new MAF if you're worried about it. I can't think of any other solution for that one.
