Buy a few of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Primos-Truth-Cam-35-Camera/dp/B003PVGA1O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369949746&sr=8-1&keywords=wildlife+camera

Put them up in trees - one covering the gate area, one covering the back of the property, etc.

Collect photographs.

Give them to the police and press charges for trespassing.

u/panterror187 · 26 pointsr/NewMexico

Why haven't you bypassed apparently incompetent (in the least) and criminal local law enforcement and contacted the State Police? Further you dont need a security system or home internet to get that "proof." You could fairly easily use something like the below link.

https://www.amazon.com/Meidase-Trigger-Activated-Waterproof-Wildlife/dp/B07D4HPQ4G/ref=sr_1_7?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1539382549&sr=1-7&refinements=p_36%3A1253504011

I have lived in NM my entire life and this is certainly not normal for any area I have lived, though I do hear stories from some areas. This isn't you fault, but living like that isn't living at all. If your only option is to get out of the area, do so. An area like that will eventually wither and die anyways.

u/CompoundClover · 23 pointsr/AskReddit

I actually just bought this for putting in my car (it got vandalized):

I don't know how mobile this camera needs to be but it takes pretty good pictures. I got it because it's motion activated and the batteries last a while.

u/Jessie_James · 15 pointsr/RBI

Here's a sample link, just something I found real quick:

https://www.amazon.com/Stealth-Cam-Megapixel-Batteries-Camouflage/dp/B00JWFI83U/ref=lp_3413551_1_6?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1468767202&sr=1-6

They are camouflaged, can be left out for days, are waterproof, and can shoot pics in the dark. I think it might be just what you need.

>I'll try contacting the papers if the police keep refusing to do anything but I don't want to name the builder as it could be libel

You could probably still contact the papers without necessarily naming or implicating anyone. The fact that it is happening is news worthy alone at a local level. And making a fuss might get the police to investigate further especially if you make a point out of mention how useless they have been so far. My other suggestion would be buying a trail camera off of amazon and setting it up somewhere that could catch the face of the person doing it. Otherwise best of luck.

I have some camera ideas for you! Outdoor ones tend to be expensive, plus many require wiring (or can be even more expensive for wireless). To get around this, you could look at indoor ones and point them out windows. There are tons of options on Amazon in the $30 range, and you don't have to worry about external wiring (or even check local ads for used nanny cams). For a reasonable outdoor setup, they have great trail cams like this that are very reasonable for what they provide. No wiring, and records to an SD card so you don't have to worry about wifi. You could even throw up one real camera and get a pack of fake ones like theses. To hopefully prevent her from even thinking about coming back, grab an image from the real camera, forward it to the ex to show you're prepared. This would also be a great time to go to your neighbors to explain the situation and see if they have cameras or saw anything, and ask them to let you know if they notice anything in the future.

Good luck and stay safe!!

u/HeloRising · 10 pointsr/DumpsterDiving

Cheap....

I think this is where the divide comes in between those of us who need to dumpster dive and those of us who want to dumpster dive.

u/ImaginaryCheetah · 8 pointsr/homesecurity

>The thing is, somehow, people are still finding new ways in, breaking exterior doors, walls, etc to get in. Police has already arrested a few people in the act but it never seems to end.

fam, if people are smashing through the exterior walls, i don't think there's any way to secure the building.

i was going to suggest putting up metal fencing over the outside of all the doors and windows. just screw it to the exterior walls with washers and tapcons. but you're building a death trap if there was ever a fire and hooligans were inside.

>I need is something that is cheap but effective, so that if it is stolen, its okay.

you could possible conceal game cameras inside the building.

this would let you go back and hopefully get evidence to go after whoever broke in, but it would do little to deter theft.

u/Astramancer_ · 7 pointsr/legaladvice

for this particular case, not as expensive as you think.

For watching one specific location for movement and then documenting it, Trail Cameras are just the thing. Like this one for $65.

u/somethingventured · 5 pointsr/Dashcam

Look for hunting cameras. They have inferred night vision and their own power source. Heres one for $75. Maybe you can find one cheeper.

u/FollowThisNutter · 5 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

If you can find a discreet place to mount it near (and facing) the office door, a game camera would be an affordable option. They take stills when they sense motion, and there are quite a few with night vision that are still under $70. For instance:

u/MrMajors · 4 pointsr/homedefense

Is there a friend/family member close by to monitor a camera every week or so? If so a trail cam would answer a lot of questions with a few weeks of pics. You would just need someone to swap out a SD card and view what happened in the last days or weeks on a laptop. They will not trigger through a window so they need to be mounted outside. Once you set it for pics or video there is nothing else to fool with.

I use this one to monitor my garden and it works great. Takes thousands of pics on a set of AA batteries and saves either pics or vids on a SD card. Good night vision. Good enough to show police.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HMN7H04/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Paranoia is a symptom of Dementia/Alzheimer's. A few weeks of time stamped pics or vids would be helpful in sorting things out with your dad. Tough situation either way.

“Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.”

https://www.amazon.com/TOGUARD-Detection-Activated-Waterproof-Monitoring/dp/B07QPY5J2H

This is one that can be used inside of a car or outside that runs on AA batteries if you are worried about car issues. I have one. I use it in my yard for studying the movement of wildlife and feral cats.

You can strap it to anything and it should work if it is inside the car. One specifically designed as a driving camera might be more discreet though... but I am sure they exist that don't run on the car's battery.

I've had mine in the field for a few months. Great battery life, takes either picture or 10 sec videos. Can set the timer to take those every 1, 5, or 10 minutes. Great pics and video in night or day. Can't go wrong for less than $60.

http://www.amazon.com/Moultrie-Low-Glow-Game-Camera/dp/B00AP311JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395177874&sr=8-1&keywords=moultrie+a5

I've heard redditors recommend this camera before in situations like this. I'm looking for an excuse to buy one personally.

Also, keep his letters safe. Since he's printing them, they're tied directly to his printer even if there's no fingerprints on them.

u/Ag3ntDboy · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Heres a good camera in your price range.
Also, a version for a little more $$$ with a laser!

u/PaintballTwin · 2 pointsr/paintball

Replay 1080 Mini is great for $100. Lots of different mounts are available, but so far i've done fine with jerry-rigging the regular mounts to fit my needs. http://www.replayxd.com/product/1080-mini/

As for barrel cam, well, not many fill that role well atm. The best atm (imho) would be the Shot Trak, also at about $100. http://www.amazon.com/ATN-Shot-Trak-Action-Camera/dp/B00GVFFTPY

u/Posrover · 2 pointsr/Dallas

I know nothing about the area, but why not just put up a game cam like this and get some pictures of whomever may be responsible. I don't know what is the best option but this one seems resonable.

http://www.amazon.com/Stealth-Cam-Megapixel-Batteries-Camouflage/dp/B00JWFI83U/ref=sr_1_4?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1459219050&sr=1-4&keywords=game+camera

u/Lovetones · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

I really think this is the best idea. If you have the cash, I think a trail camera would do the trick pretty well, although I will admit that I don't know much about the things. And once your troublesome neighbours are dealt with you can set it up in some local woods to get some great wildlife shots!

u/Kytus · 2 pointsr/Hunting

I use 2 moultrie M880s, 2 moultrie D-55-ir, and 1 spypoint BF-6.

If you can find the moultrie m880 from 2013, snag em. Phenominal quality and trigger speed. The low glow infared doesn't spook animals at all from what i've noticed. Can find em on amazon. They look like this

I picked up a 2014, and though it is 8mp just like the 2013, the quality was garbage. Horrible aperture and shutterspeed compared the the 2013. things like stationary trees on the outer edge of the focus were blurred, images were always a bit washed out, and lacked the clarity I was getting from my 2013 m880s. Do not get m880s that look like this

As for my other 3 cams, they're all good for the price. The moultrie D55s are a tad slower on trigger speed than my m880s, but for the most part they still get good pictures. If an animal is sprinting past my cams at full speed, so far only my m880 and spypoint capture it.

The spypoint BF-6 i use isn't as great for image quality as the m880, however i picked it up to test it for a few reasons. It has a detection range out to 65 feet, where the m880 seems to be around 45 feet.

As well, it was no glo infrared flash, compared to the m880s low glo. I wanted to test the different infrared flashes against each other.

Since I've only used two models of moultries and one spypoint, I can only suggest those. If I had to choose what to get more of between the 3, right now I choose to get more of the 2013 m880s. However I've only recently started using the spypoint, so I need some more time with it to determine the pros and cons.

I've seen and read some good things about bushnell trophy cams, I know a few models from either 2009 or 2010 had some issues with electrical shorts and overly sensitive triggers. But I've seen some quality images from those cams. When I'm in the market for a new camera to add to the collection, I'll most likely checkout one of those.

Here's an album with a few shots, The first 3 images are from m880s, the last 2 are from D-55-ir. I don't have any from my spypoint available right now.

I will tell you one thing, that UTG mount is crap but the Surefire-ripoff flashlight is actually really nice. It is a 150 lumen LED bulb from the same manufacturer and in the same size and style as Surefire. I would say that it is the same bulb actually used in a Surefire model except that I don't recall any Surefires in that size using anything over a 120 lumen bulb.

ANYHOW, what I am getting at is that that UTG crenelated flashlight is a nice little piece of weapon light. Get a good, offset light mount and mount that UTG and you will be in business.

Or, if you really feel the need to have a nice, name brand light, you can do what I did and take the bulb out of that UTG flashlight and drop it into an old, non-LED Surefire 6P or 6P defender. Again, it is the same size, style and manufacturer so you can just drop it in. The old 6Ps go for around 40-50 dollars. I picked up a non-LED defender for 47 bucks the other day and bam, 150 lumen LED surefire on the cheap.

As far as the actual mount goes, there is an offset one on Amazon for about ten bucks which is actually solid. Let's see... http://www.amazon.com/TACTICAL-JETBeam-JET-III-Diameter-Flashlight/dp/B002ZYRV2E/

As someone in the reviews mentions, it is probably made for an airsoft rifle or something along those lines, but it is definitely solid enough for actual use on a 5.56 AR. I bought one just to check it out, and I really have no issues with it. And I really tend to me completely unwilling to put knock-off brands on my rifles. I just can't justify paying the 30-50 dollars the name brands ask for a piece of plastic or metal to mount a light. Hell, I was looking at a Viking Tactics offset mount for 30 bucks and I honestly liked this cheap, 10 dollar mount better.

u/y4m4 · 1 pointr/gundeals

The head of it is 1" (25.4mm) and the middle has a section that is 0.882in (22.4mm) that is ~1.75"(44.5mm) long.

After some brief research, I'm not finding an inexpensive flashlight mount that would work. My solution would be to get a simple one like this: www.amazon.com/TACTICAL-Mount-JETBeam-Diameter-Flashlight/dp/B002ZYRV2E/

And then file/grind down the flat parts (where the screws go through) so it will clamp down on the slightly smaller middle section of the TN12. I see some reports that suggest this might work unaltered.

This isn't a weapon light, I wouldn't trust it to work except for the few shots you'd need against an intruder.

Should mention most you cannot hook to a PC directly, you need to retrieve the SD card.

Victure Trail Game Camera 20MP

I have a few of these on my property.
They are relatively cheap and have worked well for the year I've had them out. They're on 24/7. Great battery life on the settings I use (3 20mp pics + 20 seconds of HD video per capture) and good picture/video quality.

u/NickLynch · 1 pointr/guns

The body of the light is too wide for the mount.

Here's the mount

The light is one that came in a 3 pack for $20 at Costco. They're pretty bright, and hold up alright.

I basically cut the clamp off. The part that hooks to the rail itself. Then I plan to weld/jb weld/epoxy the flashlight to it. I think it should work till I can afford something better.

I'll throw up a pic or two when it's done.

u/uriman · 1 pointr/funny

I wouldn't recommend any sort of (obviously illegal) vigilante revenge. But, you can buy a trail cam so at least you can start to gather some evidence. They usually are motion activated and use nightvision (no-glow). Eventually this can be shown to the police or used to file a small claims action.

u/vmann · 1 pointr/flashlight

I have the exact same light (XL-200) and I bought this. Makes a nice handle when not attached to a rail, and keeps it from rolling around. Fits nicely around the smooth part near the battery opening.

u/Thibbledorf_Pwent · 1 pointr/birding

It’s this one. Trail Hunting Game Wansview Camera 16MP 1080P HD, with 0.2S Trigger Speed and 120° Wide Viewing Angle, 70ft Detecting and Night Vision Range, IP56 Waterproof for Wildlife and Home Security T01 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LBLDN6S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CHsmDb5SPKPEG

I just sent it back for replacement because it doesn’t record sound and the photo/video mode doesn’t work. Takes great pics but it’s supposed to do more. Their support never responded... So at this point I don’t think I’d recommend. We’ll see how the replacement goes.

u/walnutts · 1 pointr/Hunting

It seems to be hit or miss on Stealth cameras. I've had one for 4 or 5 years and it's still going strong and takes great pictures. My brother bought one and it crapped out in the middle of the second season.

I also have a Primos Truth 46, which I picked up for $60 while they were being discontinued. This has been a great camera and I wish I would have picked up more, especially since it's replacement is double the price.
I like the Primos Truth 46 so much I went and bought a Truth 35, but the picture quality is terrible, but with AA batteries it'll take pictures all season without replacement.

u/SearingPhoenix · 1 pointr/Nerf

Copied from the album:

>Fantastic little light package. The reason I particularly like this kit is because the the flashlight houses its own charging circuit, so you just plug Micro USB in and you can charge it on the fly (off a phone charger), no need for something like a NiteCore charger.

>The overall size of this thing is tiny for how much light it puts out. It has three settings, with memory for the last one used when turned on, from 'blinding' to 'good enough' to 'decidedly dim, but bright enough to not trip over things'. I set it to the middle one. While it has a strobe mode, it's quite difficult to activate accidentally --requiring repeated rapid presses -- which is great for Nerf. I did have to pad the mount with a rubber band, as the flashlight is a smidge under the 1" diameter for the mount. That's fine, though, as it protects the finish of the flashlight from metal-on-metal contact. A polymer mount would be significantly lighter, and I might look to see if one is out there.

>The parts of this kit are as follows.:

>MagPul 5-slot MOE rail

>Off-set 1" Flashlight Picatinny Mount

>JetBeam EC-R16

I believe sense your property is under construction, you do not have internet at the location yet. Your best bet would be a trail cam with night vision, like this one or similar, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K53KL1G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wSGZCb5PDAM1B but if your handy and cheap you can always use an old smart phone with service and use an app called "Alford Security" (you know, like a butler called Alford and using 1 camera is free). You would have to figure out how to keep the phone dry, but that would give you a live feed and live notifications that you would get in real time. The app also has a night vision setting.

84.00 each is not really that good of a price. I have some of those cameras and they are my lease favorite due to how basic they are. I got 2 for $100 on Amazon once. You get what you pay for. Gandermountain, not sure if you have those near you had the 880 series from the same maker for $109.99. Was 179.99 regular price. I got 2 and love them.
