My boyfriend's work party is 1940's theme and I have no idea what to wear.

I went out to the mall this weekend and got this dress. I have a pair of black heels that have cute details that I wore last year to his works 1930's holiday party. Other then that I have no idea what accessories I should get to make this black dress more 1940's style. As I said I'm hopeless with fashion. :( I was thinking maybe a baublebar necklace like this? This evening bag with a a silver pashmina.

I am going to youtube a 1940's hollywood glam hairstyle and makeup look.

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated as I have two weeks to get an outfit together.

I would go with some metallic shoes (strappy sandals if it was me), and a fun colorful clutch. I bought this clutch not too long ago & I immediately pictured it with that dress ☺

I had a clutch. I bought it for $12 on Amazon and it looked great. My sister took care of it most of the day/night. I did use it to (a) tuck away my place card and (b) reapply some lipstick/gloss, but other than that, I just carried my phone with me to take selfies and went on my way.

Well here is one single bag of candy that is $10,000. Clearly that should not be a thing.

Ah, yeah, I kind of interpreted "evening" as going dancing or the like. The problem here is that for a nice evning dress I'd probably do something like a clutch, which would be a pain in the ass the rest of the time because the rare ones that do have detatchable straps or the like still aren't comfortable to use that way. Ideally, I'd have a smaller clutch that I could pull out of my day bag and leave the rest in the car or at my desk.

You could also go for something bigger and more like this. I think the main thing for making it feel both dressy and professional is for it to be dark and structured rather than slouchy.
