I've had KP since I was a kid and am finally getting handle on it in my 30s. My current routine is glycolic lotion twice a day, creams on the affected areas 3-4 times a day, and then physical exfoliation and using zinc or sulfur soap a couple times a week to keep the bumps at bay. But since skincare is YMMV, here's the exhaustive list of almost two decades of treatment, in case some of these other things will work for you!

100% of the items can be purchased via Amazon in the US - it's pretty much the only way I shop.

Beginner Level

If your KP has just appeared, focus on physical+chemical exfoliation and moisturizing. Look for lotions with the following ingredients:

u/soggy_waff · 30 pointsr/beauty

Skin

I'd recommend for skincare to start with the basics : cleanser, moisturizer, and spf.

Cleanser is to clean the dirt, sweat, and sebum off your skin.

Moisturizer is basically to put back into your skin what you took out when cleansing (cleansing removes some good stuff with the bad) and helps keep your skin healthy, a lot of moisturizers contain things that are important in your stratum corneum (the skin that we see) like lipids and ceramides (don't worry too much about this, it's just the sciency stuff, all you really need to know is that moisturizer restores good stuff to your skin).

SPF is to protect your skin from the sun, there are UVA and UVB rays. The SPF rating on a sunscreen is a rating on how well the product protects your skin from UVB rays (rays that cause a burn) and broad spectrum on american sunscreens means that it protects you from UVA rays as well (rays that age you and I believe can cause skin cancer). If you're looking at asian sunscreens, they rate protection from UVA rays with a PA+ rating, and I believe UK sunscreens use a PPD rating although I'm not sure how that works exactly. (basically you want broad spectrum, PA with 3 or 4+ signs, or a high PPD rating depending on where you're getting your sunscreen from).

For product recommendations, I'd say try cerave, they're a good brand and have quite a few options. I'd say try their hydrating or foaming cleanser, and either Cerave PM moisturizer or Cerave moisturizing cream (I'll leave links). Sunscreen is up to you, I prefer physical sunscreens (meaning they contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) but they can leave a whitecast. You can try some neutrogena sunscreens, I've heard good things about those too. So I'll put what your routine should be pretty much :

An AHA (chemical exfoliant) would be helpful in getting rid of whiteheads.

Here are a couple you could consider:

You are a nice looking guy, but you have to get that skin corrected ASAP. Are you seeing a dermatologists? If not, do it right away or it can permanently scar if it hasn't already.

I can't tell if the zits are standard run-of-the-mill pimples or cystic acne. If it is cystic acne (pimple that has no core, just plenty of pus and can last for months), then scaring can be really bad as they go deep. But whichever you have, you might be allergic to some food or drink. I would recommend you eliminate all liquid except water for six weeks and see if you have any improvement. (No coffee, no tea, no soda, no alcohol, no milk, no chocolate etc)

  1. If there is improvement, then weekly add one liquid back into your diet to determine what is the acne trigger(s).

  2. If there is not improvement, then consider trying the Elimination diet to determine if you are allergic to some type of food (gluten, dairy, soy etc).

  3. I also recommend that you buy some Benzoyl Peroxide 10% to use on your zits. Here in the U.S. the best I have found is AcneFree Terminator 10 Acne Spot Treatment. The process is as follows:

    a. Clean your face early in the evening.

    b. Then put a half a pea size amount of Benzoyl Perozide (Acne Free Terminator) on the new zit.

    c. You will keep it on for at least eight hours (sleep in it). But be careful until it dries so as not to get it on any fabric. It will bleach fabric white.

    d. Continue to use the Benzoyl Perozide (Acne Free Terminator) nightly until you can push on the zit and it doesn't hurt. It usually takes 1-2 days to kill the zit, but get it as soon as you feel the pain of a pimple. The longer the zit lives, the harder it is to kill. Plus it will get an ugly whitehead if you let it live too long before putting the Benzoyl Perozide (AcneFree Terminator) on it.

Hi! It sounds like your boyfriend could use an AHA for both the dark spots and the KP. The AHA will likely help the acne as well but you can also try a BHA formula for breakout-prone areas. He'll probably want to cleanse his back if he doesn't do that already (a back brush with a gentle head will help to reach); I used Cetaphil's cleanser on my shoulders years ago when they used to break out. The exfoliation is liable to help with the ingrown hairs but be careful not to overdo it so his skin doesn't dry out (I imagine it's hard to moisturize the back without help). I used to have dark spots from acne scars and KP on the back of my arms but using the AHA and BHA I linked on my face and this on my arms mostly cleared them all up. You can find information on all of these issues in the wiki.

Ok! Well I am a 24 yr old female with combination skin. I am normal on my cheeks but oily in my T zone. I've dealt with severe cystic acne my entire life but after seeing a dermatologist and getting chemical peels and changing my diet, it went down drastically. Now I am just left with hormonal acne on my chin and some discoloration on my skin. So here is my brand new routine I started a week ago! Many of these products have made people break out but it's just about finding what's right for you :)

I bought some other stuff too but since this worked for me, I am sticking with it and might change it up next week and add more things in.

OH MY GOD PLEASE NO

DO NOT USE SUGAR

DO NOT USE SALT

DO NOT USE COFFEE GRAINS

NEVER USE LIME (I mean, really? What year is this? Why are we recommending this to people?)

These things will make microtears in your skin and leave you with scars and pigmentation, and even carry bacteria all around your face (they don't kill bacteria, but if you have some causing acne in one spot they're great at getting into a pore when they tear your skin and carrying that bacteria over to a new spot on your face to break you out more).

If you find that you have flaky skin and need to exfoliate, you can use a physical method that is gentle such as a cotton wash cloth, a clean brush or silicon thingy (like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071H3T2WC/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). Or you can use a very, very gentle exfoliating product like this one that uses cellulose and cotton in the actual wash and not something hard and granular that will have sharp edges like sugar ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DN85WQ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ).

Better yet, if you don't really have that thick, dry, flaky, crackly skin, use a cleanser, toner, or cream with an AHA or BHA like 2% SA: https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Renewing-Cleanser-Salicylic-Normal/dp/B00U1YCRD8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3LS2UD8S2VUVG&keywords=salicylic+acid+face+cleanser&qid=1554488530&s=beauty&sprefix=salicy%2Cbeauty%2C197&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/Ordinary-Glycolic-Toning-Solution-240ml/dp/B071914GGL/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=the+ordinary+glycolic+acid&qid=1554488568&s=beauty&sr=1-3

Start off using these once every third day, and if they don't irritate your skin, you can try every other day, or every day, or twice a day. But don't overdo it right away because it will essentially burn off a layer of your skin if you are overexposed to an acid. These are strong, which is why they are effective, but you have to be careful.

I have Keratosis Pilaris on my face, and I have found that using the Mizon AHA works better than anything else I tried. It helps shed the dry skin, resulting in less bumps. Only start using this gradually. I still only use it once a week and I've been using it since October.

u/misslucylouise · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Everything was Prime at my time of purchase and when I posted this so hopefully they will stay that way!

All the Cerave!!

Cereve in a Tub-new product for me...mostly use when skin is dry from night usage of prescription trentinol cream

Cereva SA Lotion-really helped with my acne

Cereva Foaming Face Cleanser-loving this face wash but might have to switch to the hydrating face cleanser come the dryer winter months

Other than Cerave:

Hada Labo Moist Lotion-great for quick-drying non-sticky moisture on the go, especially under make up or when I am rushing out the door

Biore UV Watery Essence SPF 50-love everything about this sunscreen except how quickly I go through it!

Mizon BHA/AHA -every other day exfoliation toner applied with cotton pad

REN Glycol Renewal Mask - weekly exfoliation, always makes my skin glow

u/maziarzreboot · 8 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

I LOVE this stuff. It gets rid of my pimples in like a night. The big red ones usually take a day. Been using it for years.

Every time after you shower wipe that area with stridex pads. They are only $3 at my local dollar general. It will help remove your current ingrown hairs, prevent new ones from forming, & help fade away your blemishes.

u/Smith5001x · 7 pointsr/amiugly

You are thin, but I wouldn't classify you as skinny. I think your weight is right where it should be. Keep working out to build muscles.

You have such bright eyes. Very unique.

Your hair in the field looks the best. However you had it cut/styled that day, keep that look.

Your teeth are good. Your eyebrows are well groomed (or naturally groomed).

I do think you need to take better care of your complexion. Below is my list of suggestions.

Overall, I think you are doing well with your assets. Good job!

---
To Clear up your complexion

  1. Purchase Formula 10-0-6. You can buy it online. Target.com and Ulta.com has it for $5.99. Click here for Target

  2. Right before bed, get a good amount of the Formula 10-0-6 on a cotton ball. Clean your face with it. Continue to use new cotton balls with Formula 10-0-6 until they come back clean after using them on your face. (Do not clean your face more than once per day unless you had a really dirty day.)

  3. Shampoo every morning with a product that doesn't have pimple causing ingredients. We use Garnier Fructis products. Click here

  4. Take 1000mg daily of the supplement L-Lysine. Target has them for $7.59.

  5. Stay away from sugar.

  6. On the odd occasion you have a zit, clean your face early in the evening with Formula 10-0-6, then put a gob of AcneFree Terminator 10 Acne Spot Treatment on it. You will keep it on for at least eight hours (sleep in it). But be careful not to get it on any material or else it will stain it. Continue to use it nightly until you can push on the zit and it doesn't hurt. Usually takes 1-2 days to kill the zit, but get it as soon as you feel it the pain of a pimple. The longer the zit lives, the harder it is to kill. Plus it will get an ugly whitehead if you let it live too long before putting AcneFree Terminator on it.

That is all you have to spend for a clear complexion. $5.99 for the Formula 10-0-6; $5.98 for the Garnier Fructis shampoo; $7.59 for L-lysine; around $5.00 for the AcneFree Terminator; plus some cotton balls.
u/skyrmion · 7 pointsr/Supplements

it's my understanding that there aren't many oral supplements effective for acne reduction.

like i said, there's evidence for zinc, but you should be taking it anyway. i'm not familiar with evidence for collagen and biotin but i think a lot of people take them for skin health, but not necessarily for acne.

there are prescription oral drugs like antibiotics (used short-term), hormonal drugs (usually for women), and Accutane (i'm on it right now). but those are a bit more serious and you'll need to find a doctor.

all that said, i'd recommend making some small lifestyle adjustments and using topical products. it's not as easy as taking a few supplements in the morning with your multivitamin, but it's worth it and it's not that hard.

i'd super duper recommend trying your hardest to not pop pimples and generally to keep your hands off your face!

but if you have a blemish that absolutely needs attention, you should cover it with one of these hydrocolloid bandages that are made to suck up the nasty stuff and heal it afterwards

if you have particularly problematic *individual* zits, you can spot treat with benzoyl peroxide like another commenter mentioned. 2.5% is the maximum concentration you'll need and will minimize side effects (dryness and irritation). higher concentrations (5%-10%) are regarded as overkill.

or if you have more mild skin with fewer acute pimples, you can try salicylic acid pads like someone else mentioned.

this might sound counterproductive, but i'd recommend regularly using some kind of moisturizer, too. start out doing it at night if you're lazy or don't have time in the morning. the moisturizer i linked to has some cool things in it called ceramides that help re-build your skin layer.

other lifestyle changes: change and wash your bedsheets, facial towels, and pillow cases more often. try to keep your hand off your face during the day. some people find dramatic changes when they remove inflammatory foods (dairy, soy, meat, starch, sugar, varies person to person) from their diets (i didn't).

do you know what face wash you use?

if you have time on your hands, browse around r/SkincareAddiction. feel free to ask me more though!

i'm a bit of a skincare nerd as much as i am a nutrition/wellness nerd.

u/lilcountryfox · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Guy here as well. Some things I've found help:

  • Make sure you wash your pillowcase regularly / also sanitize your phone screen.
  • Get an electric razor and try to shave less often (like every other day).
  • If you do shave with a normal razor, use the drugstore disposable ones for sensitive skin. Switch to a new one once the blade becomes dull / rusty / gnarly.
  • Use a shaving cream designed for sensitive skin. Try and avoid ones with scent or Lavendar oil, which can clog pores.
  • After cleansing (assuming you wash your face at least 1x a day), apply toner (this helps rebalance the pH of your skin). This EVENPRIME one has ingredients like Niacinamide that help with pore size and blemishes.
  • Try tea tree oil and calamine lotion as a spot treatment at night. Etude House makes a really good one. Just dip in a cue-tip.
  • Oh, and make sure to exfoliate 2 times a week with a chemical exfoliant. The popular ones are The Ordinary Glycolic Acid toner (note: this has toner in the name, but is different than the EP one since it's an exfoliant and should be used sparingly) or NeoGen's wine gauze pads.

I know another commenter mentions Differin, but I had been using Differin for years and actually found it made problems worse. Once I switched off retinols, I suddenly had the best skin of my life. Also, switched off drugstore acne products – they're too harsh for skin. Make sure your face wash is pH-balanced too. Either use CeraVe Hydrating Facial cleanser or a Korean one like the EVENPRIME cleanser (which can help soothe redness).

If all else fails, you can try Curology. They have a subscription, but I actually found the bottle lasts forever if you use it as a targeted treatment. It can be a bit drying though so you'll need to use moisturizer and SPF.
u/maincoursdelegance · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Sure!

Step 1: steam your face or a hot steamy shower. Open the pores up! Refrain from any harsh cleansers or scrubbing other than gentle gentle gentle.

Step 2: swipe a stridex pad or any other salicylic acid based toner over the spot. Wait 15 min. It gently dissolves the dead skin layer that is clogging the pore, and begins to break down the layer of oil and crud that is keeping all of the fluid and pus inside.

Step 3: spot treat with Aztec clay mask, mixed with apple cider vinegar. You must mix the betonite clay mask with the Apple cider vinegar, to balance the pH and avoid burning your skin. It smells funky as hell but it is an acne killer, every single person on this thread will agree that it’s amazing for acne. It will draw it to a head quicker. This is great as a full face mask, be aware that it will pulse and tingle intensely as it dries! Your skin will be bright red for 30 min to an hour after removing it.

Step 4: wait 10 min until it dries and carefully peel it off the zit. It may even take the clogged pore top with it, opening it up for extraction — use an extractor tool or pore vacuum and do NOT just go squeeze it. If it does not come to a head repeat this again tomorrow! Do not do the full mask every day, the spot treatment is ok daily only on blemishes. As a full mask it’s best to use it once or maybe twice a week at most, or you risk compromising your lipid/moisture barrier and going through some seriously not fun times. Always follow up with a good oil free moisturizer.

This is the best way to completely drain this blemish, without forcing the pus further into your skin and creating even more breakouts down the line.

All of these products are easily obtained on Amazon, or any major grocer that has a health food section or oriented towards health. I know for a fact that Gelsons, Whole Foods, Erewhon, sprouts all carry the Aztec betonite clay mask and apple cider vinegar. Any chemist or pharmacy will have stridex wipes and benzoyl peroxide & maybe even the extractor tool as well. If they do not have the extractor, pick up some Hydrocollegial bandages as well as small diabetic lancets (Tiny needles used for blood sugar testing) if you don’t have anything you can use at home to poke it with.

Now steam your face for 5 to 10 minutes to open your pores then see if you can gently lance the pimple with a lancet or sterilized small needle. (It must be sterilized and rubbing alcohol for a few minutes first, or you will get an infection.)

Gently pierce it, then allow it to drain and very carefully apply pressure straight down to the sides of the blemish. Do not squeeze directly into it, again super bad. Once you’ve gotten as much out as you can, slap a hydro colloidal bandage on it and sleep with it on. The bandage will suck all of the fluid and pus out, leaving you with a flattened bump in the morning that you can apply a little dab of benzoyl peroxide on. Benzoyl Peroxide is an anaerobic substance, it penetrates all the way to the base of the skin through multiple layers to target acne bacteria. It’s best used as a spot treatment and will fry the crap out of your face. Always use sunscreen after using these medicines!

Without seeing pictures or knowing your skin issues its hard to be specific with recommendations, so I'll try to be as general as possible.

For a beginner, its better to take things slow. I know that when I got into skincare, I wanted to jump into as many things as possible because I just wanted things fixed and I wanted perfect skin, but it doesn't really work that way. If you introduce too many things at once and you break out, it can be hard to find what is responsible for it, and sometimes what's responsible for it isn't even a specific product but rather your skin just simply freaking out from all the changes.

It's hard to give a blanket statement on what ingredients are harmful and beneficial. I find Hyaluronic Acid amazing for my skin, but some people posting on here say it breaks them out. On the flip side, my skin hates benzoyl peroxide, but others find it really helps their acne. Finding this out can be a trial and error process.

If you are looking for a more general overview, one site that really helped me when I was getting started was: https://simpleskincarescience.com/index/

If you are bored one day, or looking for more info try reading it for a while. I'd recommend taking a look at the pH article, and the ingredients articles to start with.

---

As for what i would personally recommend:

Face cleanser and moisturizer is the first step, which you already have. Personally I would recommend cerave foaming facial cleanser (if you have more oily skin), or cerave hydrating cleanser (if you have more dry skin). You can find a list of recommended things from other redditors here.

For a moisturizer, I always liked cerave moisturizing cream, but if you are having success with the lotion, I would stick with it. You can find a list of recommended things from other redditors here.

Since you are battling acne, I would try a BHA exfoliant as well. Not only are exfoliants great for your skin, but salicylic acid can help against acne. When using exfoliants it is very important not to over-exfoliate. Your skin will start getting too dehydrated and you will make things worse. This is easy to prevent by simply taking things slow. Exfoliate once every few days to start with, and if things go well, start doing it every other day or every day. I would recommend against exfoliating any more than that (stridex, which I recommend below, wants you to do it up to three times a day! That's way too much).

When using an exfoliant, it is very common to go through a purging period, where all the oil/dirt/impurities under your skin are brought to the surface, and you break out. While this sucks for the short term obviously, it will make your skin much nicer in the long-run.

I would recommend stridex. It's cheap, and its effective. You can find a list of recommended things from other redditors here.

To start with, I wouldn't suggest that you do anything else, especially if you are changing your facial cleanser and moisturizer. Once you have gotten into a routine with your new products, you can always ask again for help.

Some other things to keep in mind to help with your skin are just the every-day habits that you employ. I know for me, getting a consistent amount of sleep is super important. If I start going a few days without my 8 hours, I will break out. Other things that are important are monitoring stress, and drinking a lot of water. If your skin is breaking out as a result of the stress from your relationship breaking up, you might find that your skin goes back to normal after a little while, without doing anything.

Hope this was helpful, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I have some bacne so I use a gentle, SLS-free body wash like this and spray my shoulders with a salicylic acid spray. Since I've been using those, my bacne's been clearing up a lot without my skin drying out too much. However, I've got a lot of residual PIH (scarring?) from old acne, so I've been thinking about finding a body wash with AHAs or glycolic acid, but I'm worried about dryness. Any recommendations?

u/Devastating · 6 pointsr/BlackPeopleTwitter

Ok bro, I got you

u/starjorie · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The Bye Bye Blemish drying lotion is the EXACT same as the Mario Badescu for half the price and has yet to fail me!

u/whenifeellikeit · 5 pointsr/AskWomen

Yeah, lately, I've just adopted a cleansing routine the same as I would on my face. I don't mechanically exfoliate anymore (like with apricot scrub or anything), but I exfoliate twice a month using a salicylic acid gel peel. I also use that on my face, but my butt skin can tolerate a longer treatment. I do this at home, by the way. No expensive salon stuff. You can get it online. Here's the link to what I use.

I use benzoyl peroxide twice daily and keep the area clean with Wet Ones Antibacterial for sensitive skin. All of that combined, the breakouts haven't completely stopped, but they're under control and rare. Eating lots of sugar or sitting for long periods of time, or wearing lace undies or thongs always irritates it and causes a breakout.

I wish you luck. I know how cripplingly embarrassing this is. Heh. Embarrassing. I kill me...

u/Black_Belt_Troy · 5 pointsr/bald

Sunscreen is just anything over SPF 30 (and not that spray-on nonsense, use real lotion).

As far as sweat goes, if I'm really working out or exercising I wear one of these. Mostly just to keep myself from going blind via sweat in the eyes.

Also, as soon as I can after working out I always rinse/shower down to prevent the salt and sweat from clogging up my skin and ruining my complexion. This stuff helps prevent sweat from doing any damage too.

u/Verun · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I'm curious about this too, since I deal with scarring on both cheeks+nose from years of acne. I even have some pitting on both cheeks from this. The only thing that's really helped is microdermabrasion. I got a system a few years ago that I LOVED that was only a little tube of the aluminum crystals/cream and then the after moisturizer--the L'oreal Refinish kit. Recently, I got the Vasanti Brighten-up! in a Birchbox and loved it. I don't know what it is, but for some reason--acids really tick off my face, and although I use Salicylic Acid 2% on both cheeks constantly the only real difference I ever notice is with aluminum oxide crystals.

I have heard bad things about microtears, as well as possibly causing other long-term problems with microdermabrasion(including systems like the PMD), so for now I'm trying to find an acid peel or acid concentration that doesn't irritate my skin and burn it, but still actually gives me results.

So start with 2% salicylic acid(like, literally just stridex pads), if you don't see any change after encouraging some skin cell turnover with that, then bump it up to glycolic acid pads, or Try these St. Ives Exfoliating pads, which are an AHA, but really, you're going to have to test around.

I currently got a jar of the stridex pads, just to test them out. I've been using them roughly a week and haven't noticed a major difference, so I'll likely try to finish out the jar, and then when I do, bump up to like, an 8% acid scrub or something similar that's going to be a little rougher, and hope that it works well. I've picked out the thing I'm going to try but I do want to give it a go with just regular salicylic acid first.

Also, use moisturizer. I swear to god I never thought I'd need moisturizer my whole life. I have oily skin. My makeup oils itself off in the summertimes, but I still need moisturizer! It will help as far as avoiding solar Comedones if you settle on a moisturizer with SPF in it(15-30 is fine), and also help your pores kind of...reshape themselves? I don't know, but I've been using the Aveeno Positively radiant^(r) daily moisturizer with broad spectrum...spf 30. (Which may be overkill, but whatever man, it's my face). I have noticed that my pores actually seemed to shrink from properly moisturizing my skin and cleansing it in general. So....you could get a gentle or moisturizing cleanser, or just use some stridex pads and then put a moisturizer on. Up to you.

I really should do a post with my skincare routine sometime. It hasn't really solidified yet(and I forget...a lot), but I'm sure I could get some good info to improve what I'm doing.

For a BHA (which is the same as the Stridex pads), I like Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA. For AHA (the same as the St. Ives), I like the Pixi Glow Tonic. Paula's Choice also makes AHAs and while I've never tried them, I'm generally happy with that line.

Here's a post on /r/SkincareAddiction that goes over the differences between AHA & BHA. The short version: AHA is better for dry skin and BHA is better for oily and acne prone skin.

If your pretty new to skincare and not sure where to start, this basic routine post and holy grail products index are both helpful!

Here's my assessment and suggestions - you're basically OD'ing on oils. My guess is to combat dryness? But using lots of oils won't = hydration. It can caused congested skin.

Current routine AM - Potential Issues:
--Kiehl's ultra face cleanser = basic creamy cleanser. In theory, based on what I've researched, this should be fine for you to use. I believe it has has a pH of 5.5 (acidic) and looking at the first five ingredients, nothing offensive jumps out at me (I think a poster here said it was drying and had a high pH but that's not what I found on here). The marketing touts apricot and avocado oils which could be acne-causing but those are way down the ingredient list (apricot and avocado oil are high in "oleic" acid which acne-prone skin should stay clear from). I don't think this cleanser is anything special though so if it were me, I'd save my $ and put it towards effective actives (see below).

--lush scrub "Let the good times roll on" = corn, glycerin, corn oil. I’d stop using this manual scrub b/c it's full of corn oil and there more effective exfoliators out there, which is what you need right now to. Corn oil is moderate on the acne-causing scale. Too harsh, too much fragrance and there are more effective exfoliants out there.
--kiehl's reviving concentrate = oils. I’d stop using this b/c again, it's more oil.
--la roche posay tinted sunscreen = titanium dioxide, silicone, chemical sunscreens. Fine to use. Shouldn’t cause you issues.

Current Routine PM - Potential Issues = Oil OD!:
--Kiehl's cleansing oil = oils. I'd stop using this b/c I don’t think you need to double cleanse since you don't wear a lot of makeup. Double cleansing is helpful if you need to break down a lot makeup since cosmetics are primarily silicone/oil-based, oil breaks down oil. Just use a makeup remover where you where makeup.

--Kiehl's midnight recovery concentrate = a ton of oils. Some are good, some are iffy.
Too many in there. Definitely stop using this until you figure out what product is causing the comedones.

--Kiehl's ultra cream = emollient. Fine to use. It’s a great basic moisturizer.

--Paula's choice 2% BHA liquid = BHA. Definitely keep using this to keep your pore lining clean. This is an effective BHA. Won’t fix currently acne but will help prevent future.

Suggested AM Routine + Products:
--Cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser - $11. Save some $ and try this tried and true cleanser that I recommend to everyone. It's creamy, non-drying and has a pH of 5.5 pH. Any skin type can us it and you can find it anywhere.

--Active: BHA: Keep using the PC BHA.

--Moisturizer: Kiehl's ultra cream. Fine to keep using. If you want a cheaper alternative, [CeraVe Facial Moisturizer PM - $10] (https://smile.amazon.com/CeraVe-Facial-Moisturizing-Lotion-Lightweight/dp/B00365DABC/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1519077120&sr=1-4&keywords=CeraVe+Facial+Moisturizer+PM). You can use this day or night - ignore the PM marketing. This has a thinner consistency b/c it’s a lotion. If you like a thicker cream consistency, try [CeraVe Moisturizing Cream - $12] (https://smile.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizing-Cream-Daily-Moisturizer/dp/B001V9SXXU/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1519077377&sr=1-4&keywords=CeraVe+Moisturizing+Cream) in the tub (fine for face and body).

--Sunscreen

Suggested PM Routine + Products:
--Cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
--Actives: BHA then AHA: 1. BHA: Paula's choice 2% BHA then 2. AHA: [Mizon AHA 8% Peeling Serum - $19] (https://smile.amazon.com/Mizon-AHA-8-Peeling-Serum/dp/B00F35GT0W/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1519076979&sr=1-4&keywords=Mizon+AHA+8%25+Peeling+Serum)
AHA can better penetrate your skin more effectively after a BHA is applied (AHA isn’t oil-soluble). They work synergistically together. Lots of folks will use an AHA immediately washing their face particularly in their oily T-zone and not see results. AHAs are non oil-soluble so they're not going to get results! Ideally, wait 15-20 min. between applications but no one has time for that!
--Moisturizer: Kiehl's ultra cream or CeraVe Facial Moisturizer PM.

Hey,

I'm pretty new to AB (and skincare in general), and I've doing the generic 1st 2nd cleanser into toner + moisturizer for a month or two now, and I'm thinking of adding BHAs and AHAs into my routine.

I just wanted to ask how often should I use BHA and AHA.
Can I use them together?

I was thinking I should alternate days between them.

After toning and putting on the AHA/BHA, I read that I should wait 20-30 minutes before putting on moisturizer. Is that true?

This is my current routine.

I just purchased the Corsx BHA Blackhead Powder Liquid.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an AHA product? Is the Mizon 8% Peeling Serum any good?

Oh, and I have this lying around the house. Is this a BHA product?

edit: Also, I also read that the Corsx BHA Blackhead Powder Liquid had higher than expected pH levels. Do I need to be worried about that, or has it been fixed?

u/dmcindc · 4 pointsr/AsianBeauty

When I first heard of how well AB products work, I went on a binge and tried out so many, and while all are really great, I keep reaching for the Mizon Black Snail AIO the most. I don't like any perfume smelling lotions, no matter how great they are. The Mizon black snail has no smell to it, so perfect for me. I also felt it healed my acne, acne scabs, and dry patches, and just left me with healthier, softer skin.

I'm not sure if you would be up to trying all of these items, but here's my skin regimen (to heal acne and acne scabs/scars, dry patches, and aging skin and wrinkles) to compare. I have been doing this for about six months and am tweaking very little. I haven't had any acne break outs in the last three months now (well maybe one minor pimple that heals within a day or two) and my skin is the most normal it's been in my teenage/adult life.

Morning:
Cosrx Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser. I love this cleanser and am not changing.

I use two Konjac half sphere shaped sponges when cleansing. I like to use two of these at the same time, one to lather up the soap (less soap is needed with these sponges) and one to rinse it off, and then I rinse both out and run under warm water and hold the two flat halves against my eyes. The warmth feels so wonderful.

I like the red or pink clay ones, but here's a sample pack. Also they usually come with a small string looped into the sponge. If they don't, you can just get a needle and thread and put one it. This is because they need to be hung up to dry out, so they don't get any mold in them. When they dry out, make sure to run under water to re-expand them fully before use, and don't squeeze until they are fully soft and expanded again, or otherwise you will begin to degrade the sponge and it will start to fall apart.

Then I use Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner. (If you buy from there, you get a Benton Bee Snail mask try too. That mask is one of my all time favorites.)

Then I use the Benton Snail Bee Essence. (If you buy from here, you get another mask and a few samples to try too.)

New York Laboratories Dark Circle Eye Cream. Not Korean, but uses some good ingredients.

MIZON Black Snail All In One Cream

You can also add another cream over this, like one with retinol or hyalouric acid or both. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I am happy with the above and it works for me.
___

Evening:
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam Facial Foaming Cleanser. I love this cleanser and am not changing.

I use the cleanser with the Konjac sponges again. I find when you use the sponges, that you don't really need to use a separate exfoliator product daily, which can be harsh on your skin. So think gentle products (See at the bottom).

Then I use the same toner as above, and the same eye cream, but sometimes I also add on Cosrx Honey Ceramide Eye Cream.

I use the same Mizon snail cream as above and then a "sleeping pack cream". I have a few I am trying at the moment and can't say which I would recommend yet, but I keep going back mostly to the SKIN CERAMIC Donkey Milk Yogurt Sleeping Pack one. It is not too greasy like some of the others and my skin feels super moist from it.

I do a sheet mask at least once a week (more if I can - lately I have been doing about 3-4 a week). I subscribe to a monthly sheet mask bag at MissTutii.com, and they will send about 7-8 sheet masks each month. I love the snail masks best, the honey ones are my second favorite, and then the donkey milk ones. My Miss Tutii is ending next month, and I am thinking of switching over to Mask Maven subscription, which sends nine masks each month.

I use only mild forms of exfoliation (I am so, so, so done with the rough kinds!!!), like Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine, to help skin turn-over maybe 1-2 times a week. I keep the jar in the fridge and use after a shower in the morning, but you can also use in the evening after you cleanse and before you apply essence/cream. When I use these pads, I skip the toner part of the regimen and sometimes essence too.

I also have Seven Seconds Morning Sheet. That one has gentle dots on the pad that exfoliate. I tend to use this one when I am in a rush and can't spend the time to do a full skin regimen. This one you just cleanse and do the pad and then you are done.

I use Nooni AHA/BHA peel pad about once a week.

About two times a month I use Laura Mercier Face Polish.

And speaking of healthy skin regimen, don't forget about getting good, quality sleep. Get yourself a few boxes of these KAO heated eye masks. They are freaking amazing! They are so nice and light and comfortable and soothing, and they do block out the light too. I love the rose smelling ones.

If you can get him to wash his face every night his skin will improve. My brother liked the Clinique facial bar soap, and just using that improved his severe cystic acne. but any facial soap he'll use will be good.

Spot treating with benzoyl peroxide helps. If he is oily getting him in the habit of using stridex every night will pay off. I purged for a solid six months, but now I use it almost every night and notice a difference if I don't. I'm a minimalist and washing my face at night, then using stridex is a really simple skincare routine that could work for a lot of adolescents.

Also, there has been dermatology research that shows salicylic acid is effective in face washes, Cerave has a SA face wash, Neutrogena has one, and I love the Clean and Clear Deep Action Cleanser

If your son ever really gets into skincare routines, and is responsible about it, then Differin will give him results. He'll just need to use a sunscreen every morning. My dad recently got a precancerous mole removed, and still hasn't developed the habit of using sunscreen in the morning (So I know it can be tough to get people in habits of using sunscreen), so I would only get him Differin if you see evidence he can be responsible about sunscreen use. It's a worthwhile endeavor, because it could prevent him from getting skin cancer down the road. Blue Lizard, Olay Complete spf 30, & Purpose spf 15 are good non comedogenic sunscreens

edit: I just read you think he has sensitive skin. In that case I do not recommend Neutrogena (their products contain too much fragrance). Vanicream is good (no fragrance or parabens). They have very good facial cleansers.

u/alchademy · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

All the steps you're taking are in the right direction, but let's talk about product recommendations. You should start off with a basic skincare routine.

Cleanser: Cosrx Low Ph Morning Gel Cleanser - A good cult favorite, gentle cleanser.

Toner- Stri-dex Pads Maximum Strength - I have yet to find anything else that keeps my acne at bay as well as these do, holy grail status.

Moisturizer- [Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream] (https://www.amazon.com/MIZON-Snail-Recovery-Cream-fl-oz/dp/B00NTR9B6A/ref=pd_sbs_194_49?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00NTR9B6A&pd_rd_r=GQARJSYA37GYHK6DDA84&pd_rd_w=xTj7a&pd_rd_wg=Anz1Z&psc=1&refRID=GQARJSYA37GYHK6DDA84) - This will moisturize and take care of acne scars.

Additionally, what helps me is to exfoliate twice a week, and I use Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off Exfoliator.

I would suggest wearing sunscreen, though this step isn't specifically to help your acne, it's just good to protect the skin from premature aging and hyperpigmentation. Assuming you have combo to oily skin I would recommend Etude House Airy Finish Sun Milk.

u/SarcasticOptimist · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

As a fellow peeler (the 30ml lasted a year, though it may have been longer if my gf didn't also use it), I'd recommend you moving it to the night, so to reduce its sun sensitivity effects. If you're ok with using a stronger moisturizing sunblock, you can stick with mornings.

Anyway, hope you're using a fan brush instead of a cotton swab so more acid can go onto your face.

u/vidrenz · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

Hey there, I have hyperpigmentation in my cheeks after 3 yrs with acne and I use this chemical peel(s). Lactic Acid is basically to remove the scars and Salicylic is to avoid getting Acne. Ive been doing them both for 4 months now I can tell you my face has cleared up significantly. I am not 100% there, but it's better than it was 1 yr ago. The scars fade but the mark is there for ever, and I still get 2-3 pimples every few weeks. I can only tell you to be persistent since results will not appear in the first month. Your skin will shed and shed, and after 5 weeks, you will notice. each bottle lasts me about 2 months and they're less than $25. DUDE seriously, i hope you look into it.

http://www.amazon.com/Salicylic-Acid-Peel-30ml-Professional/dp/B000PLUZL8

u/bananabastard · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I would recommend benzoyl peroxide - https://www.amazon.com/Acne-org-Treatment-2-5-Benzoyl-Peroxide/dp/B00164FKWW

Add it to your current routine after cleansing and before you moisturize. Apply it liberally, all over your entire face, not just on individual breakouts. Wait 10 minutes for it to totally dry then moisturize.

It might make your skin a bit red for the first few weeks but your skin will get used to it.

EDIT: As for the facial brush, I wouldn't recommend it while you have active inflamed acne.

The acne I had sounds similar to how you describe yours, cleanse > benzoyl peroxide > moisturize every morning and night is what brought mine under control.

u/chemkara · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction
  • Get a shampoo that is SLS and Silicone free. Most of the times, the breakouts are due to them running down the skin while washing hair. Same with conditioner if you use one. Google will give you some brands that have them.

  • Wash your body after you shampoo with a Sulfur and Salicylic Acid Soap.

  • Moisturize with Cerave SA Lotion For Bumpy Skin. It has Salicylic Acid and that will be your leave in treatment for acne.

  • If the above doesn’t work, you can add a stronger active like Benzoyl Peroxide once a week.

    Good luck!

Edit: I just saw u/Scumteam14 adding a few notes about what you tried that may make my answer irrelevant, so please follow with what they said, They know their stuff. I will leave the recommendations if someone else has a similar case and is not sensitive to the actives I mentioned.
u/Khayembii · 3 pointsr/gaming

Dude, seriously:
http://www.amazon.com/Acne-org-8-oz-Treatment/dp/B00164FKWW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1367899611&sr=8-2&keywords=acne.org

Try this stuff. Slather it on your face hardcore. All over your whole face. Rub it in gently, but use a lot of it and rub gently til it's all in. Then moisturize. Do this two times a day you'll see a HUGE improvement.

I don't have terrible acne but worse than most and it's cleared it all up, my face feels great and it's also drastically decreased the presence of blackheads. This stuff is a godsend.

u/Meeno722 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I struggled with bacne for a while. I noticed it especially after I started going to the gym on a regular basis (not great incentive to keep going!). I started trying to change out of my gym clothes or shower right away. I'd also change my sheets more often. As far as products, I read that tee tree oil can help, so I started using the body wash from Trader Joe's that has tea tree oil. I also found this product and would apply after I got out of the shower. You have plenty of time to get it under control before your wedding, you may want to consult a dermatologist. They can prescribe creams and pills that may also help! Good luck

u/PM_ME_SUNSCREEN_PICS · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Pasty white ginger chick here! I'm not the most experienced skincare addict, but I can tell you that a month ago I started Curology for my acne. It's personally helped a lot. It's $20 a month plus $5 ship, unless you do two months it's $40 free shipping. With Curology you tell them what your skin concerns are, send them pics, and get help from a real dermatologist.

I don't know what your budget is, but if that seems too expensive, then there are other options. If you check out the sidebar, there's lots of info on building a skin routine for yourself. Specifically check out [Stridex pads](Stri-dex Pads Maximum Strength, 3 Pack of 55 Pads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WP0S74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8fiyzbVFW8V9W). Don't use Suave on your face though. I literally just read a comment that talked about why you shouldn't use Suave as face wash here.

I've never dealt with a skin tag before but this has good reviews for at home skin tag removal. If that doesn't work, you could go see a dermatologist. If you do that, you can kill two birds with one stone and have him/her prescribe something for your acne. Also as a fellow ginger, I got to tell you to make sure you wear sunscreen! And lots of it! Your skin tag probably isn't anything to worry about but sometimes they can be cancerous. Keep yourself safe and lather up the sunscreen. Being pasty white is better than having skin cancer.

Getting skin in check is a process and you have to be consistent. It doesn't happen overnight. You're not disgusting. Don't beat yourself up for being human.

u/scarieb · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Maybe somebody with a similar situation and experience as you can chime in. I have found success using Stridex (in red box) to deal with my body acne. I use a sensitive skin (aka no fragrance) body wash with no loofah and when I get out of the shower apply a Stridex pad by wiping across affected areas. I use more than one if it's a larger area or more than one area. You can typically find these at any local store.

Weekly:

This face wash
Mon,
Tues,
and Wed morning and night.
Then normal,
mild soap Thurs,
Fri,
Sat. Then the saylic wash again Sun morning, followed by
this saylic acid peel for four minutes (and no more! You'll burn yourself!) Wash acid away with cold water. This made deep, dark acne scars disappear over the span of two years (but started in as little as a few weeks) and cured chronic hormonal adult acne where no medicine or soaps would otherwise. I swear by it now.

Daily:

Wash face, apply toner, let dry. Then apply hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin and pat thoroughly, let dry. Then apply retinol serum and let dry. Lastly, apply the best can't-go-wrong moisturizer to top it all off, let dry, and get on with your day.

Seems like a lot, but I had to embark on a "fix your fucked up skin" routine a few months ago, and I gotta say, this routine has done the trick. My pores are tiny, my color is even, my skin is soft, wrinkles have either lessened or disappeared completely, and I feel healthy, and in reality it doesn't take any longer than about five minutes to do.

Oh, and wear sunscreen. Sun isn't bad... but a lot of sun is bad. 15 minutes is good. 50, not so much.

u/peachybutton · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Oh, this thread is perfectly timed!

I started using the Paula's Choice AHA Gel about a month ago. I use it every other night after washing my face with CeraVe, then follow with moisturizer. Then in the morning I wash my face again, then moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup.

The AHA is the only new thing, and since starting to use it my skin does indeed look brighter, but it also feels stingy all day and I've had more breakouts.

I'm wondering if the AHA is damaging my skin, if I'm doing it wrong, or if I just need to give it more time.

u/mishy_fishy25 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Most facial exercise sites are scams. None of their B&A photos are real.

Your facial volume look fine. It's just your texture. It looks really dry and dull. Have you tried alpha hydroxy acids like St. Ives Exfoliating Pads or Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel?

Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor after Paula's Choice skin Recovery Mask to lock the moisture in.

You need an actual sunscreen especially when you are using Retin-A.

Sooo the first thing that stood out to me was the Neutrogena toner and my only response to that is - stop that. I used to use it when I was younger and god it was horrible. It has a ton of alcohol, so it totally strips your face. If you have a "tight and dry" feeling, products with a lot of alcohol only make things worse and irritate your face.

If you want to use something to wipe down with after cleansing, I'd suggest a micellar water. Garnier makes a popular one (in the pink bottle) that's really reasonably priced and that I'd recommend.

If you're concerned with closed comedones, an AHA would serve you well. Paula's Choice makes a popular one, but I've also heard good things about Mizon's AHA (bonus: it's cheaper). Make sure you use a good sunscreen with AHA! It makes your skin photosensitive, so broad spectrum sunscreen is mandatory every day (otherwise it'll accelerate the aging of your skin).

To increase hydration, I'd recommend using a hydrating toner before applying moisturiser. Hydration should plump your skin a bit and reduce signs of aging. I love the Hada Labo toner and apply it after I've used my BHA/AHA (after a 20 minute wait) to a damp face (I typically spritz with plain water or aloe vera juice). I wait for it to dry a bit and then apply a moisturiser and it works super well.

Vitamin C serums are excellent for anti-aging. Unfortunately, they tend to be unstable - they're best kept in a dark area, away from heat and light and optimally, in the fridge. However, if you'd still like to give it a go, OST's vit C serum is popular. Wrap the bottle in aluminum foil and it should keep longer. Signs to tell if it's gone off is a change in colour (goes dark) and smell (sour, funky). You should use it right after cleansing and then wait about 15 - 20 minutes before continuing with the rest of your routine.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. (:

It's actually not very different (in terms of consistency) than any other serum/emulsion! A lot of people like Benton's Snail Bee essence, I haven't tried it myself though. /r/asianbeauty has a very informative sidebar with product recs if you're interested in trying them out!

As far as what I use, I (sadly) am still on the hunt for an AHA and vitamin C Serum that I like. Next on my list to try are the Mizon 8% AHA and OST Vitamin C Serum. I tried sample sizes of the Paula's Choice 8% AHA gel and liked it well enough but I didn't like how sticky it made my skin feel.

A lot of folks here really like the C-15 Super Booster from Paula's Choice. I tried a sample size and didn't notice a difference but perhaps that's because I didn't use it long enough. I am trying the OST vitamin C serum next, mostly because it is much cheaper, but if it doesn't work for me I will be switching to the Paula's Choice.

I use this one. Basically it lowers the ph of my skin so that my actives work better. I more or less follow /r/AsianBeauty and that's where I found Stratia, to be honest lol.

You can try [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LUU42NU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) It's my favorite toner. I still follow up with AHA and BHA depending on what day it is. For AHA I use paula's choice and for BHA i use stridex.

u/aloe-you-vera-much · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Why don't you suggest a BHA or AHA? These chemical exfoliants accomplish the work of physical exfoliants without harming your moisture barrier and skin in general. A common, inexpensive BHA is Stridex in the red box (maximum strength, alcohol free). One AHA is glycolic acid, I've seen nip and fab pads that contain this.

u/shortmk · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Neogen is such a great underrated brand. If you find you need to incorporate some exfoliation I highly suggest checking out their peeling pads. They’re super gentle and make my skin feel so smooth and wonderful. I have one pad left of the green tea they smell so light and clean. I’m going to try red wine next. They also have lemon

Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Green Tea 200ml 30 pads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GZ1QXAI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3OoQCbD9GT0XS

u/kjsafo · 3 pointsr/amiugly

Jealous you got to go to Japan! Tokyo is a travel goal.

Neogen's Bio-peel exfoliating pads are incredible, and I use them once to twice a week. I just finished my pack of the wine exfoliants, and purchased the green tea one as a replacement. The wine one contains antioxidants and seemed to be more of an anti-aging product, whereas the green tea one appears to be more of a cleanse and tone and neutralize type of effect. Both are great, although I've only used the green tea one twice thus far. The wine one really helped mitigate some acne scars I had on my cheek, and has the highest ratings on Amazon.

I follow the exfoliant with a quick wash (just normal Neutrogena face wash) and tone with Thayer's Rose Water Witch Hazel. It's a non-alcoholic toner that moisturizes while tightening up the pores and cleansing a little extra. Most drugstore toners contain alcohol, which serves the opposite purpose of drying your skin out, and accelerating oil production, thereby creating more acne. You can purchase Thayer's at CVS or most drugstores; there's several other witch hazel alternatives that seem to work fine as well. This one just smells extra nice.

After toning, I slather on some aloe vera gel. The one by Nature Republic is dirt cheap, gets the job done, and the tub lasted me like six months. Aloe Vera is a great moisturizer because it's all natural, contains little to no additives, and isn't oily so it won't clog up your pores. It also feels great on the skin, kind of a cool jelly feeling.

Once that's done, I put a small dab of Skinfood's Royal Honey Propolis Serum. This shit is pricey, but it's magic. This, paired with the Neogen exfoliator, really wiped out the acne scars. It doesn't have a smell, and the consistency is thick and syrupy, so just use a small drop and it goes a long way. Your skin will feel super glowy afterwards.

A few times a week, before bed I'll wrap up the above skincare routine with Etude House's Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack. Legit, the morning after wearing this, I won't put on makeup because my skin's so on healthy. If you exfoliate, do the whole aforementioned skincare shebang, and then sleep with this baby on your face, you will be RADIANT. The sleeping pack is a jelly-like cream that you slather over your face in a thin layer. I've had my pack of it for like two months and it's still more than half full. It dries up within about five minutes, and is barely visible. It rinses off easily the next morning, with a little soap and warm water.

Hope this helps!!! I freaking love skincare lmao, if you couldn't tell.

Benzoyl peroxide wash helped a bit (derm said it was safe for pregnancy) but not completely. I just ordered this and am crossing my fingers it helps!

u/jart13 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Most people have luck clearing CCs with AHAs - I like Alpha Skin Care 10% Glycolic Gel. You might see greater results by using a BHA like Stridex alongside your AHA. More stubborn CCs can be treated with retinoids.

It also helps to find out what's clogging your pores and eliminate anything suspicious from your routine. CosDNA is super helpful in flagging potentially clogging ingredients in your makeup and skincare products. Personally I avoid any ingredients that are a "2" or higher, but it all depends on how clog-prone your skin is.

u/Jocko-podcast · 2 pointsr/askwomenadvice

Honestly thats understandable, but from my 10 years of trial and error i found that its never provides a consistent complexion. Changing variables such as diet, vitamins, sleep, water, non-comedogenic products, washing 1x daily , twice daily, not at all seem to always lead be back to square one.

I hate using chemical products as well but, the chemicals provide reliability. This is what I use now. keep in mind that this regimen i got 95% clear consistently, quit because i thought i didnt need it anymore. only have the nightmares bumps come back and have to go through the whole process again. which put me back 4 months just to get clear again. And I did this 4 times, dumb me...

Everything was going great until a few weeks ago. Then finals happened. Then my face blew up haha.

I'm probably going to add 3 products - Exfoliate, Treatment, and a different moisturizer as recommended by the site. When I realized I was globbing on the moisturizer (and changed to using less) I saw drastic improvement, so I'm thinking that the CeraVe might be too heavy for oily skin.

u/pseudolf · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I dont use anything in particular to cleanse my skin just water, i am thinking if i should try using micellar water (from La Roche).

Alright will do it from now on.

Thats what i have been thinking about ! would this paulas choice 2% be a good first start? <-- amazon.de link

u/toxicdecay · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hey would love any product recommendation specifically for a chemical exfoliant and sunscreen.

  1. I used up my bottle of Paula's choice sample size (2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant) which I thought was great but at 30 dollars for a 4 oz bottle, it's kind of expensive.

I was looking at The Ordinary which has 2% BHA but also 30% AHA? Which I'm not quite sure what that is. Would this be somewhat comparable to the Paula's choice? Or should I go with a different brand.

I may just go with the regular Paula's choice bottle if I can't find anything else as it's a nice product!

  2. I hate using sunscreen, I hate the smell and the heaviness I feel on my skin after using. I "use" Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch on occasion but I usually go without sunscreen most of the time. Any recommendations for a light weight ish sunscreen that doesn't smell bad?
u/nonothing · 2 pointsr/pics

Nice!

I just plugged this bad boy in next to my desk and called it a day.

u/rosedoro · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Hey! Great time to start anti-aging products. The fact that you use sunscreen daily is already a good start.

In regards to what product you should use, I think this all dependent on your skin type. If you want to use something mild, try a treatment essence, such as the Missha FTE or the Secret Key Treatment Essence. Essences are great for providing a skincare "boost" by adding hydration and mild anti-aging benefits. Chemical exfoliants are another good option that helps your skin renew itself. The Mizon 8% Peeling Serum is good, gentle starting exfoliant. AHA's are also sometimes contained in essences.

If you want to try stronger anti-aging products, look into retinoids or vitamin C based products. Curology can prescribe you a topical treatment that uses a combination of a retinoid and other fantastic anti-aging ingredients. C20 OST Serum is a popular Vitamin C product among ABers. As a caveat, retinoids and Vitamin C products are more potent and thus it is more likely to experience some skin irritation while use them. Hope this helps!

u/not_french · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

it is this Mizon toner, I bought it via Amazon. Haven't found a decent AHA/BHA product at DM or Rossmann yet, sadly.

u/jv_level · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hi and welcome! I tried answering earlier, but Reddit wasn't connecting for me. I know you already got some good advice from teddy, but in case you want more information or someone else it reading, here is what i wrote:

There are many things to help you on your quest for brightness! I got completely carried away here as this is the first comment I haven't address acne/dehydration in a looooooong time. Got a bit too excited looking at a different subject. So hopefully you find it helpful still!

First thing is that you definitely do NOT need to be washing your face 4 times per day plus the 1-2 extra times per week, which is what you would be doing with the two aveeno cleansers and Nip+Fab. In general, the best cleansers for your skin are pH-balanced (maintains your skin's acid mantle and general skin health) and are as gentle as possible. In basic routines, washing the skin is actually the most irritating step. For most people, washing their face as little as possible is best (barring things like getting physically covered in dirt). For example, with my drier skin I only wash my face with a cleanser about 3 times per week...I rinse with water in the mornings, and when I shower in the evening I do the oil cleanse method.

Second, if you are starting chemical exfoliation, you should be wearing sunscreen every day. UV still travels through the clouds and the sun still shines in winter! Glycolic and lactic acids make you sun sensitive so wearing a daily sunscreen is a necessity! (also I would take a look at EltaMD UV 46Spf. It has niacinamide which is good for evening skin tone...but it is a separate product rather than incorporated in your moisturizer).

So! What to do!

  1. The Aveeno cleanser isn't bad...I am slightly wary as it has added fragrance and sodium lauryl sulfate (and a bit of mica to make you sparkle. Just a bit! it's not glitter, but that's where the 'radiance' comes from I think), but it can definitely work for you. Alternatives: CosRx Good Morning Gel Cleanser (here), or the Innisfree Blueberry Cleanser (here). Or even just a basic CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. The CosRx has tea tree oil, so it might end up being too drying if you skin is sensitive to the tea tree.

  2. For your exfoliation, I would definitely go with a leave on product (either swipe pad-style or a serum). Washes tend to not be effective as they don't spend a long time on the skin. But if you are worried about the strength of a leave on product, do short-contact therapy and just rinse your face with water after 5-10min of applying your chemical exfoliant. Using a gentle chemical exfoliant will actually provide a more even exfoliation and is more gentle than physical scrubs, which are dependent on things like how hard you push on the skin and how wet your skin is while scrubbing. One very popular product to consider is the Neogen Gauze Peeling Pads (here). It's a very gentle chemical exfoliant on a double sided pad which gives you a bit of chemical, a bit of physical. It also comes in three 'flavors'. Other options: Nip + Fab 5% glycolic pads (here). Or for serum style, the is the 5 or 10% lactic acid serums from The Ordinary. Or it you want to spend A LOT of money...Sunday Riley Good Genes is a raved about product with lactic acid. Lactic acid is larger molecule size than glycolic, so it is more gentle...I would say the 10% would be on par with a 5-8% glycolic. For a gentle physical only exfoliant, I would look at the Skinfood Rice Wash Off here. The grains of the scrub are quite large and rice is supposedly a brightening ingredient! But you can also just use a cloth in the shower to physically exfoliate (remember! No more than 1-2 times per week!). When watching over over-exfoliation keep an eye out for lingering redness, stinging when you apply products, excess dryness and a general feeling of your skin being like 'plastic wrap'. Redness and irritation start first, so if that starts to linger, just stop exfoliating for a while and focus on moisturizing!

  3. The Kiehl's Vit C is a good starter Vit C. Just remember to put it on bare skin directly after cleansing and even before your chemical exfoliants if you happen to use them in the same day. Vit C. was my favorite powerhouse ingredient in terms of evening skin tone. I now use the Drunk Elephant Day-Firma, but it's a bit expensive for a first jump in.

  4. A good moisturizer in general will make your skin look healthier/brighter, so I do recommend moisturizing in the PM as well as the AM. A good moisturizer will also help you handle any irritation that might arise from exfoliation, cleanser, dry weather, etc.... Also, something with niacinamide specifically might provide more benefit. Options with niacinamide: CeraVe PM (oldie, but goodie!), Beaty of Joseon Dynasty Cream, CosRx Overnight Rice Spa Mask, Mizon black snail all in one cream, Ponds Clarant B3 (2 versions here I think, one for dry, one for oily skin).

Absolutely optional things (getting deep into skincare addiction here)

Niacinamide is another great product for evening out skin tone and helps with the appearance of wrinkles! It also improves ceramide production in the skin which strengthens your moisture barrier and can make your skin look more bouncy/healthy. I would consider a niacinamide serum...Something like Stratia Rewind (only available here on their website) or the Holy Snails Shark Sauce. They both have licorice root extract which helps with skintone as well.

If you want another hit of licorice brightening, you can take a look at the Acwell 5.5 Licorice toner. This would be applied after your actives (chemical exfoliants/vitamin c), before serums and moisturizers. Some people do a '7-skin' method of layering on this type of hydrating toner to really give your skin a big drink of water! Of course you don't have to do a full seven layers, but even 2-3 might give you that extra little sumthin' sumthim' of bouncy, bright skin!

Also First Treatment Essences...they are essentially very watery layers applied just after your actives, before toners. They contain a yeast extract that some absolutely people swear by to get dat glow! The classic here is the SK-II FTE, but it costs like a million bucks. The Missha FTE or the Secret Key Rose Edition are dupes. The CosRx Galatomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence is also similar (in asian brands they often use the word whitening in place of brightening..don't be alarmed, it is not a skin bleach!).

    -------------------------------------------

Anyways, I'm rambling on now. I hope you find something useful in there! Remember, you know your skin best, so please ignore advice that won't work for you. Good luck!

Nip + Fab Glycolic Acid Extreme pads

I actually grabbed them cos they were on sale at the local drug store for like $12, and I've been meaning to try Glycolic Acid for my acne scarring.

Sokoglam and W2 Beauty carry it, it's also on Amazon Prime. As for why YesStyle won't ship it to the US I'd bet on fearing a customs issue because it's made with wine.

I read online somewhere that it helps to think about how bad you’ll feel after picking. I always feel super guilty after so that helps me stop sometimes.

Hydrocolloid bandaids also help me a lot when im trying not to pick. They come in patches but I cut up these and it comes out cheaper:
Band-Aid Brand Hydro Seal Adhesive Bandages for Heel Blisters, Waterproof Blister Pads, 6 ct https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077TKLJ8T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eygjDb7YMHARD

I try to hide my blemishes from myself when I’m at home not wearing make up by spot treating with masks. It helps when I’m “scanning” for blemishes. Also worth noting that I have oily to normal skin and I wear the mask as a spot treatment overnight with no ill effects. I use this one;

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, 12 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003JMYAAW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hzgjDbY7465G3

Picking leaves me with hyperpigmentation so I use glycolic acid to fade them faster. It makes your skin more susceptible to the sun so sunscreen is a must. I use this little tube of glycolic acid. It lasts me a month because I use it every third day or so.

Paula's Choice-SKIN PERFECTING 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant-with Glycolic Acid Soothing Chamomile and Green Tea, Travel Size Leave-On Gentle Exfoliator for Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination Skin, .5 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1QNHHA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hCgjDbVSRE5NW

*Finally, for texture, I’ve used a 1.5 mm dermaroller. I purchased mine on amazon, but it can be dangerous. After a certain length of needle, it is recommended you see a professional. Unfortunately these longer lengths really help with scars(permanent changes in skin texture). It might be worth looking into.

u/voixxy · 2 pointsr/eczema

If you don’t want to go with prescription stuff, personally I love Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting Exfoliant. It’s a gel that has worked wonders in evening out my skin tone and reducing decades of hyperpigmentation on my face, neck, and crooks of my elbows. I usually put it on before my moisturizer, let it dry, then put on either a rich moisturizer (at bedtime) or one with a good spf protection (in the morning).

Vitamin C serums supposedly help for minor darkening, but I don’t know how effective they actually are.

u/therealhm2 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have some pigmentation and dark spots because of acne scars. I want to use an AHA to fix this and have found [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1QNHHA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AFDRC8T2FYEHK&psc=1) product. Since it is an exfoliant, am I only supposed to use it once a week? People in the reviews talk about using it daily, but I am unsure if this is safe for my skin or not. Also, I've heard that with an AHA product, you should also be using sunscreen, is this true? Lastly, when should I be using this product in accordance to cleansing and moisturizing?

u/GlossyProse · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

From your other description, it sounds like keratosis pilaris + regular type in-grown hairs. Can be frustrating but it’s a relatively easy thing to remedy! A lot of people (myself included) have found chemical exfoliants and moisturizers with salicylic acid to be a big help.

For both your back and your chest, I suggest:

AM & PM:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Apply Stridex red box pads
  3. Apply CeraVe Renewing SA Lotion
  4. Apply sunscreen

Best of luck! Let us know how it works :)

Hi,

I am new around here but, I have gotten many good tips thus far for my hormonal acne. I have seen a significant improvement in my skin from using this spot treament: https://www.amazon.com/Bye-Blemish-Drying-Lotion/dp/B00027D6SE?th=1

The Bye Bye Blemish drying lotion. I think it didnt work the first time because, I kept shaking the container. I didnt know you had to let it settle. Now, I use a cotton tip to dip into the container and apply to the areas that are affected.

I am so happy I have found something that is helping at least a little.

This and the Cosrx acne patches are amazing!!

u/justsayno2carbs · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Much cheaper. They're all basically the same thing with the same ingredients. Many years ago I used Kate Somerville's EradiKate which is the same as Mario Badescu which is the same as Bye Bye Blemish. The only real difference is the price tag.

u/CoprophagiaGrin · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I've seen it mentioned several times that chemical-exfoliating cleansers (I'm assuming like this) don't stay on the skin long enough to be effective. Is there a source for this?

Has anyone used Mario Badescu's Special Glycolic Cleansing Lotion? I started using it recently in an attempt to clear out some very plugged-up pores and PIH. I would love to hear about anyone else's long-term experience with it. It bothers me that its major ingredients are isopropyl alcohol and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Speaking of plugged up pores, I believe that taking biotin caused some major blockages in my cheeks where I'd never gotten them before, along with cysts elsewhere. They've been clearing out since I stopped taking it, but does anyone have any recommendations for getting rid of these blackheads and plugs faster?

u/RayzTheRoof · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

u/Aquatrium · 2 pointsr/CasualConversation

Salicylic acid is awesome. Not sure if it works for everyone, but this helped clear up my acne pretty well. It's a facewash with salicylic acid in it. However it makes your skin SUPER DRY, but I'd rather have dry skin than acne.

u/cest_la_vie · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

MARIO BADESCU! Seriously. They have a consultant service and they can recommend products via email. They have a buffering lotion that is for spot treatment of cystic pimples. For other kinds of pimples, they have the drying lotion. Honestly, I think washing your face with some gentle cleansers and moisturizing! Which sounds ridiculous. Olive oil or jojoba oil at night. The more you moisturize your skin, the less your skin will need to produce it. As for your pores, I think using a toner like alcohol free witch hazel amazon it and doing bi weekly acid peels amazon again will help clear up and reduce the appearance of your pores. Just start researching products. Try a regimen and stick with it for a while.

u/Neb1207 · 2 pointsr/Fitness

The cure to all acne, ever. Also just so you know, the washes that are sold in stores have such a low percentage of acid content, the effect is almost non-existent. An acid peel will yield much better results:

http://www.amazon.com/Salicylic-Acid-Peel-30ml-Professional/dp/B000PLUZL8

Get the 30mL bottle to start to see if it's right for you. If you like it, get the 100 mL bottle. It works on your back, chest, face; either take the advice from me (cause it definitely has worked), or the 147 other people that gave this product a 5 star rating, lol.

It is good especially if you are a runner like you say. Salicyclic Acid will help slough off the dead outer skin cells, as well as restart the rejuvenation process for new, healthy layers of skin to form. It also will help unclog the pores, as well as expel any crap that gets in them, which will help rid acne. Just follow the instructions they provide.

Hope this helps!

I recommend Skin laboratory

I prefer the gels over the "feels like water" peels.

You're supposed to do it once a week for I think 5-6 weeks straight and then once a month afterwards for maintenance.

A lot of different manufacturers have different recommendations.

Honestly, what I currently use/used was a cheap $12 from ebay that's "liquid" but my very first chemical peel was skin laboratory 20% salicylic acid and I really liked the gel like texture because I felt it spread easier or less likely to drip.

For first time users, 1 minute MAX! And if you're doing your whole face....half of your face will have a longer exposure time/the other half less (due to time it takes to put on your face since you need to be careful to avoid eyes and dripping down), but stick to 1 minute just to test out how your skin reacts because if you leave too long, you could get a chemical burn that can leave a scar.

I left it on too long once and got a 0.8x0.8 inch scar that took about 2 months to fade to not very noticeable and probably 4-6 months to completely disappear.

Also, dermatologists usually use a fan brush to put it on your face, but I find using latex/nitrile gloves is a lot easier and faster.

I have been using a combination of this spray and this body wash and my skin seems to be cleared nicely. I was never super blemishy but there was definitely some ick going on back there. The spray is a little pricey, and depending on the size of the area, you may go through it quickly; I honestly feel like this spray does most of the work so if you were only going to pick one I'd go with the spray. The body wash is has an added bonus of smelling nice and mildly moisturizing the skin which is quite pleasant.

Here's my line up:

AM:

CeraVe hydrating face wash

Secret Key Snail +EFG toner

Stridex maximum strength

Petunia Skincare Anti-aging serum

Missha Marine Stem cell emulsion

CeraVe creme lotion

Neutrogena 60spf

Tonymoly Latte morning pack (I use this as a primer because it is slightly sticky- your makeup should go on evenly over this and not run)

For makeup I am using up a few bb creams by mixing them. I don't use powder over them lately, but when I do, I user the Innisfree no sebum mineral powder.

PM

Baby oil to remove makeup, wipe off with toilet paper

CeraVe foaming cleanser

SecretKey toner again

Tretinoin

SecretKey Snail repair emulsion

CeraVe creme lotion again

Tonymoly Aquaporin Sleep Pack

I do masks on the nights I don't use the tretinoin (every other night).

Good luck!

Edit: I gave you links, but it's all Amazon - do NOT pay these prices for the Korean products. It was just a convenience to me. I bought ask of mine on eBay for half the cost in most cases.

  • Get out of bed, go to bathroom.
  • Remove and rinse retainer.
  • Take hair out of bun and brush it.
  • Back to room, grab towel, back to bathroom, shower.
  • If not washing my hair (most days), wash body with Dr. Bronners unscented liquid soap.
  • If washing my hair, get hair wet, shampoo with Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo then deep condition with Overtone Deep Conditioner in Extreme Blue (I have blue hair).
  • While conditioner sits in my hair, perform non-hair-washing routine (wash body).
  • Rinse conditioner out.
  • Get out of shower, dry off torso, legs, then back, neck, and arms, in that order.
  • Wrap self in towel, apply salicylic acid then while that's sitting on my face, brush teeth and retainer.
  • Squirt some sunscreen + moisturizer into my hand. Close the cap, still holding the bottle in one hand, apply with other hand to cheeks and chin. Open cap, squirt a little more onto hand, apply to nose. Squirt more onto hand, apply to forehead. Close cap, put bottle down, rub whatever is remaining on my hands into my hands, then rub everything that's on my face into my face. Wash and dry hands because that stuff is actually kind of uncomfortable on my hands.
  • If I washed my hair: brush my hair out. Takes way longer to brush out ever since I dyed it...
  • If I washed my hair: put in this hair oil in aether (unscented)
  • Back to room, put on clothes. Sit around on my phone and let the moisturizer sink in and set for as long as possible.
  • Makeup time. Face primer first.
  • Foundation next. (Shade: Mont Blanc)
  • Eyebrows next. (Shade: Dark Brown)
  • Eyeshadow primer depending on which eyeshadow I'm using that day. I do something different (but still appropriate for everyday wear!) every day.
  • Eyeshadow. Varies
  • Eyeliner. Usually this one.
  • Lipstick. Varies
  • Blush. Varies
  • Highlight. Varies
  • Perfume. Varies
  • Shoes
  • Jacket/coat
  • Cross body bag in black (I should get something more feminine, maybe... suggestions?), then backpack (ugh, the life of a student).
  • Out the door.

Performing this routine takes my mornings from being a curse to being a blessing.

It's Salicylic Acid 20% Gel Peel. It is an actual peel, the first time I used it I couldn't keep it on my face for more than 30 seconds. It still hurts but I can usually go up to 1-2 minutes, but I don't need more time. I use it once a month.

Is it beneficial to use both an AHA exfoliant like Paula's Choice 8% AHA gel AND another exfoliant like Cure Natural Aqua Gel? Or is just one or the other optimal (considering cost, too, which is expensive for both)?

Skin type: Normal, acne-prone

Product name and price at the time of your post: Bye bye blemish drying lotion, <$9 for 1 or ~$20 for a pack of 3

A quick summary of the product and why you like it, in addition to any information people should know before trying it out, if applicable: It's a bomb sulfur-based spot treatment with some zinc and salicylic acid in it too. It helps bring zits and cysts that aren't to a head to a head and dries them out if they are at a head. You will need q-tips to use it. Directions say not to shake it but I've used it both ways, honestly, and it works either way. It is pink so it's best to apply at night or when you aren't going anywhere. I like that it actually dries and doesn't get in my hair or on anything I happen to touch to my face (looking at you, De La Cruz sulfur ointment, though you're still nice as a mask for 30 min or so occasionally) and actually seems to work better. Downside is I seem to go through it pretty quickly when fighting a breakout since I put it on all the spots and do it daily till they're gone. Oh, and it's drying, but not as bad as benzoyl peroxide or other spot treatments.

u/bbynug · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Here's a cheaper dupe. I think that Mizon has a similar drying lotion.

I'm thinking weight loss should help. They'll get smaller as you lose fat and should sag less, although I'm far from an experiment in that area.

Maybe consider wearing some sort of sports bra to keep them from rubbing and causing the irritation?

You might be able to lessen the visibility of the scarring with a skin peel treatment like this. I'd read up on it first though and probably best if you get your weight down first before doing that and letting any current wounds heal first.

u/medosin · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

You can try silicon gel sheeting, which you can find at walgreens. Also I would recommend purchasing a peel, and doing it once a week https://www.amazon.com/Salicylic-Acid-Peel-30ml-Professional/dp/B000PLUZL8 and every day using a 1% OTC steroid cream, and bleaching cream. I like this one from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Black-White-w-Hydroquinone-Bleaching-Cream-1.5-oz-Pack-of-2/44591816 it says $12 on the website, but in the store it's less than $4. Also, you have to keep it covered in an SPF while outside. This is a must.

u/CipherClump · 1 pointr/teenagers

Got you bro. Get some irish spring body wash(the kind with the beads), some benzoyl peroxide face soap, and some 10% benzoyl proxide cream. Put the cream on before you go to bed and use the soap and body wash in the shower in the morning. Don't use too much cream because it can stain your pillow case.

u/linuxuser86 · 1 pointr/teenagers

That's a wash. Get something like this. Also be careful with it. It's easy to fuck up your skin by using too much.

u/katelikesgiants · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Ugh, I hate that you spent money on that spray because it looks like bullshit to me. Alcohol is an irritant and so is menthol.

As for the video, most people on this sub are going to recommend AGAINST physical exfoliation on acne. It can cause micro-tears and make your issue worse.

In my personal, non-medical opinion, body acne is different from facial acne. Whereas facial acne has a lot of causes- hormones, whatever- body acne seems more linked to bacteria because it is worse if you play sports or work out a lot or whatever. I have even read some say that it can actually be a localized staph infection. Yikes! For that reason, I think benzoyl peroxide treatments are more effective than salicylic acid treatments because BP is more antibacterial.

As for a recommendation, I agree with the video that you should cleanse the area with a mild, non-scented soap, but dont scrub! Just wash it as your would your face. Then, I would find a leave-on benzoyl peroxide treatment. At most drug stores this is going to be a spot treatment and you're going to pay $5-$10 for like, one ounce of the stuff and it sounds like you have a large area to cover. Instead, I would look into this stuff acne.org treatment because you get a lot of product for not much money. Shower with your gentle soap, then dry off and apply this stuff. May want to wait a bit for it to settle in, and then apply a mild moisturizer after, if your skin gets too dry.

Best of luck.

Try either one of those. They will literally burn off your pock-marks. You basically get the same results as a professional face peel for super cheap. Ive actually bought the TCA peel, and i love it. It is strong, but it leaves your skin looking SO much better. Give it a try.

u/Dashing_Delight · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I've never used the product myself, nor herd of it, but it sounds like something you should avoid. It is recommenced to physically exfoliate once a week and it sounds like a trip to irritated skin city.

If you want to try a BHA try Stridex, or other leave on products. Avoid the scrubs. I have never used Neutragena products, but might get their BHA body spray.

For the first part I assume you were talking about the use of sunscreen, Imma link this and this.

One, check your shampoo/conditioner. That's been a common issue here, and the answer is to rinse out your conditioner before you wash your back so that you're washing the conditioner off of your skin. Additionally, clean sheets, blankets, and clothing. If you're keeping sweaty clothing on for any length of time, that could be a culprit. Finally, Stridex in the red box is great, and I know a couple others have been using a Neutrogena salicylic acid spray which is much easier to apply. This.

Without knowing more about any possible changes in your life/routine, those are the common problem/solutions found on this subreddit. Personally, I've had good success with washing my back post-conditioner, as well as getting some salicylic acid on my back.

I can tell you read the side bar from the products you picked :) The salicylic acid in the Clearasil and Phisoderm won't be helpful to you because they will be washed off immediately. SA needs to sit on the skin to be effective. The other products you picked out are tried and true r/SkincareAddiction staples, and should serve you well assuming your skin agrees with them (introduce them slowly!). You could use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser in the shower too. As for addressing body acne, you'd be better off going with a gentle body wash (like something made by Eucerin, Cetaphil, or CeraVe) and either using the Stridex pads, a BHA lotion, or a BHA spray after your shower. I use the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser once a day and I think a bottle last about 3 months for me.

u/hydroxylfunction · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm not a skincare expert by any means, but my husband has used both Neutrogena and AcneFree. The Neurtogena seemed to work better and was less sticky. Not sure if this helps or not. Make sure you wash your sheets, towels, and wear different undershirts.

u/kickshaw · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I rather like the Neutrogena Body Clear Spray, though the smell annoys me, and the spray contains alcohol, which isn't great. I don't think it's actually strong enough to exfoliate well—it's only 0.5% salicylic acid—but it feels soothing, and I REALLY like the upside-down spray capabilities of the bottle. I usually use up the Neutrogena spray, then refill it with a 2% salicylic acid toner.

I've seen the AcneFree Body Clearing Spray in stores but haven't tried it yet.

Lately I've been using the alcohol-free Paula's Choice 2%+ salicylic acid liquids on my face. I haven't tried them on my back because I'm still using up a bottle of Neutrogena spray, but when that's empty I'll dump some Paula's Choice in the bottle. I liked but wasn't wowed by the Clear Regular Strength Acne Exfoliant, which smelled like nothing; I've just started using the 2% BHA Liquid, which smells like paint thinner. I may end up using the rest of the BHA Liquid on my back and trying the Clear Extra Strength on my face next.

ETA: apparently the Paula's Choice Clear Extra Strength and the 2% BHA Liquid are the same product, so I won't be trying it after all. ;P

u/zurriola27 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I usually use the Neutrogena face sunscreen (50 SPF I think?) and I also pack a small stack of Stridex pads! I will usually apply them before I go to bed. It mostly keeps breakouts at bay!

u/starstough · 1 pointr/Hypothyroidism

I use Alba Botanica Very Emollient body wash. $10 on Amazon, $15 at Target. The bottle is huge and should last me gosh... probably 3 months even though my two kids also use it daily. I use a salux cloth with two pumps of body wash.

For my face I use Yes to Carrots Fragrance Free Daily Cream Facial Cleanser. Super expensive on Amazon. $8 at Target. It does not foam up or lather and it is super thick but it rinses clean with no burning or tightness after. You truly only need an actual pea sized amount for your whole face, so this bottle should last at least 3 months!

For my hair, right now I am using Burts Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate shampoo and conditioner. These are honestly a bit expensive considering how little you get, so because I have long hair, even though these are amazing (super shiny hair now!) I am going to try Alba's shampoo/conditioner when these run out. Sulfate free is important to me.

After I wash my face I use Stridex in the red box (Whoa, that's a good deal on Amazon for a 3 pack... otherwise, around $5 at King Soopers) and after I'm done drying my hair, putting on lotion (Jergens Ultra Healing) I use Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen, which is absolutely amazing. I don't use a moisturizer anymore because the face wash and this sunscreen somehow are more than enough. The sunscreen doesn't have a scent, goes on easily, sinks in right away, has a matte finish... and my skin looked younger and smoother and healthier after one day using it!

The biggest reason I think I am bouncing back like this is because Nature Throid has T3 and T4 and I've been on that since 2 weeks after my initial diagnosis. My hair growth is probably about 4 months worth, so I would bet that in a couple months you will start to notice things improving. In the meantime, drink tons of water ( a gallon a day is actually ok), moisturize, and breathe deeply. :)

Hello! I have suddenly developed some deep pimples(?)/bumps on my cheeks that have some pus if forcibly extracted. The bumps do not have a typical "head/center" like common pimples, and they have been on both of my cheeks for ~2-3 weeks. They also tend to form "clusters/groups" on both cheeks. What should I do to treat/prevent this issue?

My skin is combinational, with my T-zone being oily and my cheeks being usually a little on the dry side. My current routine is using the following:

> Cleanser 1: KOSE SOFTYMO Speedy Cleansing Oil

> Cleanser 2: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

> Exfoliator: Stri-dex Pads Maximum Strength only for nighttime

> Moisturizer: Elizavecca Aqua Hyaluronic Acid Water Drop Cream

Due to using moisturizer, my cheeks are not as dry as before and I have been using this routine for ~1 year without any major issues. I do not recall adding or removing anything new in the recent past. I currently live in the USA.

u/Everline · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Here is my current routine, please let me know what you think:

AM:

  • cleanse with hydro peptide cleanser. It has a very fine exfoliating texture.
  • apply La Roche-Posay Active C
  • apply sunscreen, La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen

    PM:

  • cleanse with hydro peptide cleanser.
  • apply moisturizer, either La Roche Posay Hydraphase or Lumene nourishing night cream

Once in a while (I think I'll start to try to do this at least a couple of times a week), I do a chemical peel using Perfect Image Salicylic Acid 20% Gel Peel.

I use the same moisturizer and C serum for my eyes. Not sure if it's worth getting specific creams for the eyes.

Background: I have hormonal acne. It was very severe early on until I got on the pill and other long term treatment. Nowadays it's much better, although I do break out regularly on the chin, I still have some scar etc.

I started the current routine few weeks back but I think it helps. I'm breaking out a bit less I think and my skin, in particular around my eyes and upper cheek is not as thin and dry (or dehydrated?) as before. My skin seems healthier. I used to cleanse with Clean & Clear facial cleanser and moisturize only when my skin started to flake at some place.

I may have to switch products because of the cost. I am a big fan of Laroche Posay products though. Considering changing cleanser at least, maybe cerave foaming facial cleanser.

    Any inputs welcome! thanks

Before applying, read accompanying procedure. Cleanse the skin throughly. Apply peel evenly for 2-4 minutes depending on skin sensitivity, with an appropriate applicator pad. Rinse generously with cool water. May repeat treatment at 1-2 times per week, up to 4-6 weeks in the absence of skin irritation. Peel may be layered to enhance effectiveness.

Iv been using Neutrogena ultra gentle daily cleaner foaming formula twice a day with Neutrogena oil free moisturiser spf15 for almost 2 months no change. Oooo after getting engaged, I was finally motivated to "treat" myself to a skincare routine. Honestly the two biggest things have been lotion (CeraVe) and sunscreen (Watery Essence). The routine starts at "night" in my mind:

u/weebification · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I see, that makes sense. I'm still trying to learn about proper skincare so this really helps. Regarding the Paula's Choice BHA, the links in the "Acne" tab for those products are all broken, is this the one the correct one if I were to buy it? I notice that there's a lot of different versions on the paulaschoice website.

Regarding a new moisturizer, what are your thoughts on CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM, I saw that it had Niacinamide and wasn't sure what most people thought about Niacinamide in moisturizers. I originally read that it would be beneficial but then I came across a thread here that talked about how it made a lot of people break out. I was thinking I could use that for both the morning and nights, but if you had any recommendations for different moisturizers I'd be glad to hear them.

Lastly, if you don't mind, would this routine be alright?

AM:

  • Water / (Cleanse ?)

  • Moisturize

    PM:

  • Cleanser

  • BHA (twice a week)

  • Moisturize

i've been using this stuff for the last month and my skin has never looked clearer. given i did not have cystic acne or really bad skin to start with, but it's been amazing results https://www.amazon.com/Paulas-Choice-PERFECTING-Salicylic-Blackheads/dp/B00949CTQQ

Get a hyaluronic acid serum such as Neutrogena hydro boost. Hyaluronic is very hydrating.

You can use it on its own or together with a normal, mild moisturizer such as Aveeno, which is great.

To exfoliate, you can use an AHA (i.e., glycolic or lactic acid) or BHA (salicylic acid) exfoliant such as Paula's Choice 2% BHA. Urea 5% is also great and potentially less drying.

Something like this might help you cut down on USB adapters. One AC plug, four USB ports. I know you said you can plug into your computers, but look how pretty!

Edit: here's a desktop version that has a long AC plug so you can just stick it under your monitor or whatever, leave it at work, and only carry your USB cables. If not all of your devices have the detachable USB cord chargers, you can find a lot of these things with normal power outlets too.

Thanks OP, I don't even need this and now I want one.

u/scy1192 · 1 pointr/Android

My Touchpad and G3 chargers are probably the best chargers I've ever used. Unfortunately I have no Kill-A-Watt to test, but they've never let me down. I also bought a few Anker 36W chargers and 20W chargers but they haven't come in yet. Anker hasn't let me down before though, and the reviews are good so we'll see.

u/Hugotyp · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I'm using this USB plug and this cable to charge my Switch when I'm not at home.

If there's no power outlet where I'm going, I use this powerbank, which is a bit older and isn't sold anymore, but works nicely. Doesn't charge very fast, but if the Switch is on Standby, it's alright, considering that powerbank was very inexpensive.

I remember someone had suggested this peel from Mizon, but something about the word "peel" makes me nervous. And since I'm using a BHA, I don't wanna over do it with too many acids, especially as I still want more hydration in my routine. and I need an SPF too.

I should include my skin type omg

u/YngPhoenix · 1 pointr/RandomActsOfAB

I've got a recommendation for AHA: Mizon 8% AHA serum. Using it currently, and have been enjoying it! https://www.amazon.com/MIZON-AHA-8-Peeling-Serum/dp/B00F35GT0W/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1487988187&sr=8-1&keywords=mizon+aha

I use this product. According to my Amazon I bought it on November 2, 2015. My bottle has an expiration date that is partly rubbed off but ends in 2018.

It is currently under $16

u/privatecaboosey · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I use a variety. The only way to find out what will work best with your skin, unfortunately, is to use educated guesses and then patch test and try products out. In the past, I have used Alpha Skin Care (not AB) 10% glycolic lotion, which is pretty strong, and their 14% glycolic serum, which is very strong and should not be used by someone new to AHAs.

I have also used MUAC's mandelic 10% acid serum, which is significantly gentler and might be a good option. Although for serious skin resurfacing and dealing with clogs, I have had the best luck with glycolic acid. There are a number of 8% glycolic products that you might want to try out, but I have not used them personally: Paula's Choice 8% AHA and Mizon's 8% AHA Peeling Serum have both been well reviewed by many people in this sub. Be aware that you should start slow - once or twice a week - and see how your skin responds. You might need to up your hydration and occlusive steps to deal with the additional harsh acids on your skin. Finally, AHAs are very photosensitizing, so make sure you have a good sunscreen that you like before starting AHAs, as you will need to be diligent with the sunscreen, or risk serious sun damage!

u/bad_wolf_chick · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

hehehee i keep coming back with questions.
Okay, so another user recommended i get an AHA (the Reviva Labs 5% Glycolic Acid Cream), BUT, i've also been eyeing down the Mizon 8 AHA Peeling Serum. The question is, which one should i go for, since i've never used a glycolic acid treatment before. My main concerns with my skin are: hyperpigmentation (pink), and closed comedones as well as a few blackheads. Also, given my main concerns, would you recommend the AHAs i listed, or going with a BHA like the stridex pads in the red box (note: i've gotten salicylic acid peels done in the past before, at a spa, and they didn't do shit; but... i keep seeing so many good things about these stridex pads, im tempted to buy!!!). Do you think i can add in both an AHA and BHA to my routine without it being too much?! (maybe alternating days i use each?). I currently use a .5 Retinol lotion at night, and once or twice a week i use MUAC Mandelic Acid (25%) for 3 minutes. Sorry for all the questions!! I just need a little guidance ;o

Your shampoo could be the cause. I would definitely start using an aha and or bha product. I would use a gentle cleanser like vanicream Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser with Pump Dispenser | Fragrance, Gluten and Sulfate Free | For Sensitive Skin | 8 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QY1XZ4W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dq1CDbWX75558 then a good toner like MIZON Aha & Bha Daily Clean Toner, 5.07 Fluid Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LUU42NU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bo1CDb3KXNJ4A there is also a different selection on this mizon toner for a aha serum. I haven't tried it but I am planning on buying it. I really love Cosrx products. I use the COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073P6ZQ4V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Vw1CDb8W7WA27 a lot because it uses a different form of salicylic acid which great for sensitive skin, plus this is moisturizing.

Edit I would also recommend Jason dandruff shampoo Jason Dandruff Relief Treatment Shampoo 12 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FGDIAS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WB1CDbSVRBM37 it has the bha salicylic acid and sulfer which help exfolites your scalp. If you do have fungal acne or are having a reaction to your shampoo this is a good choice. I have been dealing with a dry scalp and then it turns into dandruff, after 4 uses my scalp looks so much better

u/get_s0me · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Hi guys, never done this before, new routine to help with deep acne scars and/or discoloration.

Skin Type:Asian, light brown, oily and I break out easy.

Currently routine: Nip + Fab Extreme Night Pads after washing with Rockface Face wash with pore strips every once in a while. I read that I should wear moisturiser with some SPF protection so I'm trying to pick one. Here are some I found:

u/shazie13 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Skincare.

I'm at the point where I'm using combined anti-aging and salicylic acid on my face. Depending on AM/PM: cleanser, acid, sunscreen, retinoid, and moisturizer.

I find all occasional breakouts embarrassing at my age.

Thanks.

Edit: clarification

u/lillycrack · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I need help with my routine. I’ve just changed it up and have added a new product once at a time. It seems to be working so far! But my only issue is that my moisturiser is too heavy, but the old daytime one I used wasn’t heavy enough.

So I’m mainly needing a daytime moisturiser for oily skin, but also would love some toner suggestions to add to my routine. I’m on a bit of a budget but any suggestions of products available in the Uk are welcome!

My skin type is oily, but the skin around my nostrils always seems to dry out and flake easily. The rest of my skin is oily.

Routine that I’ve been doing for 3-ish weeks.

Morning

u/yinberly · 1 pointr/CompulsiveSkinPicking

I started using nip + fab glycolic pads on my chest last year and now I am virtually clear there! Be sure to test a patch first with any of these exfoliants before putting them all over. I hope this helps!

https://www.amazon.com/Nip-Fab-Glycolic-Night-Extreme/dp/B010SAF0YC

u/A_Common_Loon · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Some kind of acid will help with the acne and with smoothing your skin. I really like these Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix pads because they have both AHA and BHA. You'd want to use them just a couple of times a week at first. You can get them at Ulta and other places, but they're cheapest at Amazon.

u/onigiri815 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Salycilic is usually better for oily skin and from what I'm hearing, better tolerated than Glycolic Acid. AHA's are usually touted as better for PIH (ensure you use a good strong SPF too)

Salycilic can also be effective in wash form.

Some recommendations:

I can't find stridex anywhere in the UK without a really long delivery. [these] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B010SAF0YC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1491404999&sr=8-1&keywords=nip+and+fab) have both AHA and BHA apparently, would they be any good?

Hi all.

Friend introduced me to this site and I'd love to see if the "magic" she works on her skin can work for me too. I'd love it if folk could review my shopping list below and give me feedback. My skin is oily and blemish prone and I have a number of large clogged pores - oh, and I"m in my 30s.

SKIN CARE ROUTINE:

  1. MORNING (Scalp)

  1. MORNING (Body Wash)

  • ?? Any suggestions ??

  1. MORNING (Face)

  1. NIGHT (FACE)

  1. WEEKLY

u/Breakfastclub887 · 1 pointr/Skincare_Addiction

Try COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid since you have closed comedones. AHA helps with closed ones (whiteheads) and BHA helps with open ones (blackheads). This stuff is awesome, but start with 2x weekly and increase as sensitivity allows (or decrease to once a week if you have irritation).

It will take time (2 weeks to maybe notice a difference and up to 6 to see significant clearing) but that plus the prior recommendations of using moisturizer daily (one that doesn't cause clogging of the pores). You also could benefit from weekly or biweekly exfoliation using something like Neogen Dermatology Bio-Peel Wine Peeling Gauze. That product is pretty gentle but really clarifies congested skin (which keeps those comedones stuck in there for what seems like forever!)

I've tried every cream (Rx and OTC) and numerous meds including doxy and Accutane (twice), and honestly the only thing that changed my skin and cleared ALL of it up was when I began to use solely Korean beauty products. For me, they worked better on clearing my acne while keeping it soft and not irritated.

It took me 15 years to find these products that actually, for the first time since puberty at age 28, cleared up my skin, especially those pesky, stubborn whiteheads. Hope that helps!

u/putajeria · 1 pointr/keto

Haha not at all!! I’ve been struggling forever. Seriously the skincare sub is the best!!

I’ve heard really good thinks about this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019RTEKO6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1527091565&sr=8-1&keywords=neogen+bio-peel+gauze+peeling+wine

My face has mostly adjusted, but when it was peeling I would use these AHA Neogen peeling pads. I like the green one because it’s better for sensitive skin. But they have wine and lemon as well.

For the Derma E one, one of the reviews mentions a "neurotoxin". Is that a concern or not?

I think Ill get the Derma E then. Ill use the hydro boost for the night cream for now as well, and see if that works.

I believe that I need to start using some sort of sunscreen, no? If so what should I go for? I don't really know where to look for them just by searching "facial sunscreen" on amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/EltaMD-Clear-Facial-Sunscreen-Broad-Spectrum/dp/B002MSN3QQ/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1543555607&sr=1-4&keywords=elta+sunscreen) This one looks good based on the reviews but 1.7 ounces for $25 is kinda pricey considering that I'll be using the same amount of sunscreen as I would for my lotion. I have normal skin. Any advice on my current routine or input on what sunscreen I should get that's great for the price would help. Thanks.

Mizon AHA Peeling Serum $18.99 for 40ml on prime.

Much cheaper if you order from roseroseshop.com, free shipping BUT it will take awhile.

The problem with PC's toner is that in order to do anything but moisturize AHA/BHA has to be at 8% or above, anything below will not exfoliate. And PC's is only 2%, and it's $9 for a 2 week supply, mizon is several months worth at 40mL.

Also come on down to /r/AsianBeauty you are welcome to ask questions, talk about your skin-type and problems, etc. We love helping D:

You can get a pH-adjusting toner and use it before tret so you don't have to wait the twenty minutes. I use this one

u/ISwearImAGirl · 0 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

You can definitely use that, although this would be cheaper ($10 more for 3x as much). Whether or not you use BP and SA on the same day is up to you. If you find the combo drying, then skipping the SA on BP days is a good idea.

u/GreenWhiteDude · 0 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have this one that's 20%. It seems that as long as you're careful and watch how your skin reacts to it, you should have some pretty good results. I believe the recommended time for first-timers is 30 seconds, and then leaving it on longer and longer (up to 1-2 minutes according to the instructions) once you know that your skin can handle it. (Someone please add to this if I'm mistaken or have some facts wrong :) )

u/caesar23 · -1 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I would go with benzoyl peroxide. Get one that can be used all over the face (such as Acne.org's) and start by using it every other night before moisturizing, and once your skin tolerates it more - usually about a month - you can start using it every day. As with any skin treatment, it'll most likely take a couple months for you to see any changes, it's annoying but don't lose hope.
