I've been writing a series set in an alt-history version of Earth (1st Century AD)

Check out Stephen Lawhead's trilogy, Song of Albion.

Wow thanks for the advice - awesome about the book cover! I'm leaning towards using a book cover like this for now:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phantastes-Xist-Classics-George-MacDonald-ebook/dp/B01348VHII/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496069928&sr=1-2&keywords=phantastes+ebook

It's rather dreamy/wonderous/inspiring type. It's to bring out a key element in the book and Christian faith- hope.

Appreciate the input very much tho! :)

If you are a gamer, then look at The Guardians of the Flame by Joel Rosenberg.

If not, I can suggest the A Wizard in Rhyme series or Terry Brooks Landover series.

u/knaves · 2 pointsr/books
  • Christopher Rowley's Bazil Broketail series

  • David Gemmell's Drenai series

  • Katherine Kerr's Deverry series

  • Christopher Stasheff's Wizard in Rhyme and Warlock of Gramarye series

  • Joel Shephard's Trial of Blood and Steel series

  • Anthony Ryan's Raven's Shadow series

  • Michael A. Stackpole's DragonCrown series

  • Glen Cook's Garrett P.I. series

  • Tim Akers' Horns of Ruin book but hopefully a series

Just trying to get some of the lesser known series in there.

EDIT: woops some of these may not be Epic...hmm...I honestly don't know how to distinguish...I think Most of them are Epic, and the only really out of place one in Cook's Garrett series, but to be honest it does get pretty epic, I mean...it builds slowly but...ok, make of the list as you will.

Demon hunting has never quite looked like this before. But then again, Baal isn't your typical demon.

"Kingdom Come" will have you riveted as you journey alongside rookie demon hunter Jason Collins and his rise to a battle he never asked for.

If you like lighthearted fantasy a la Xanth or Discworld, check out my series, The Jester's Curse. The second book just came out this week:

Book One: The Jester's Curse: Run Amok

Book Two: The Jester's Curse: Burn Down Seatown

They're free to read on KU. I hope you like them. As a developing writer, I learned a lot about pacing between the first and the second book. I know it sound stupid to say, but I'm really proud of the latest book. Hit me back with any feedback.

The Jester's Curse follows the antics of Marius, a simple house slave who gets on the bad side of a powerful magician. Suddenly ensorcelled, Marius finds himself compelled to act the fool as a victim of the Jester's Curse. Aided by a menagerie of colorful characters, Marius fights to break the curse and take revenge on the magician who tore him from a cushy life of slavery.

In Burn Down Seatown, Marius is back. Something is rotten in Seatown, and it’s up to Marius to solve the mystery before time runs out! His former life of slavery never looked better as Marius battles crazed wizards and power–mad Astors. He even finds love, and immediately tries to put it back again.

I loved [Redwall] (http://amzn.to/2EL9BYT) , Brian Jacques was my jam growing up! I think you would really love the [Paradise War Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead] (http://amzn.to/2GxG9C8) .

If you like this prompt, you should check out the "Heaven" series of books by Mur Lafferty. Very similar idea and a great story. Five seasons/books in all and every one of them is worth it.

The story that left me feeling most empty was the main Dragons in our Midst series. When I completed that and it ended on a cliffhanger, I about killed people.

The author of this series, by the way, is a colossal dick. He ran a forum for his book and he researched anyone who wanted to join. He banned me because he found forum posts on a different website that had cursing in them, so I was 'ungodly'. I fucking spent money and bought his book, and he prejudged me! What a dick.

But still, GOOD series!

For Christian fiction, I've enjoyed a lot of Stephen Lawhead's stuff - Byzantium is probably my favorite of his, but it's more historical fiction. On the fantasy side there's The Song of Albion series and for Sci-Fi Empyrion (2 books series). But he's got a ton of different stuff that would be worth checking out.

Hood by Stephen Lawhead, it's very good.
