Never posted before, so take it as you will, but here are a couple minor things off the top of my head:

I'm not great with layout and the best flow of the room, but one suggestion is to move the bookshelf to the other side of the room (assuming there's enough room on that wall). That'll open up the entry to the room.

Assuming you keep the furniture layout about the same, generally tidiness will make a room automatically look better. You're also gonna wanna clean up the stuff on the back shelf. If you get yourself a bedside table, possibly with a drawer, that keep things neater. If you're going to buy something, pick up a new desk. Not only will it look nicer, but could also give you drawers to hide some of the stuff that is out and block the tower. Can even check your local Craigslist, plenty of nice desks for cheap on there. I got a real nice solid wood desk used for under $100. Also could get a floor lamp next to the desk in the corner.

The second major part is to get some stuff on those walls. You say you're a music fan, there are some classy looking music/band posters out there, but just make sure you frame them! You can also get a wall mount for that guitar, which not only adds a little flair to the wall but also frees up some floor space. Another quick fix would be to get some well fitting curtains on the window. The DIY part there would be to install a curtain rod, but that's not too hard.

Just my two cents, anyone else can chime in if they have anything else. Good luck!

For anyone looking for a $10 stand but isnt near an IKEA, this is what I use.

I've used a guitar stand in the past and it worked quite well. Something like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006NDF8A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LK-UBbE8KRGKG

I rested the pod of the tie on the top support and it displayed nicely.

Top Stage Pro Universal Guitar Stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBKFYUO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FL.UzbZFXXAA6

$11 from Amazon. It's perfect for the board.

u/cmagnuson · 6 pointsr/boostedboards

I've made a couple comments in the past that you can check out for gear recommendations:
https://old.reddit.com/r/boostedboards/comments/993v45/mini_x_arriving_today_commuter_gear/e4l7smn/

https://old.reddit.com/r/boostedboards/comments/8vx25x/about_to_pull_the_trigger_on_a_mini_x_what_gear/e1r37d6/

I've also found this long list, but it contains some products I wouldn't recommend purchasing, so use cautiously.

Regarding a rack, simply purchase a cheap guitar stand. They do an excellent job at holding a board while not in use.

Regarding bash guards, Flatland 3D is by far the best option.

Regarding water, avoid it like the plague. If the Boosted Board has an enemy, that enemy is moisture. Even a small amount of moisture is enough to gum up the bearings and ruin motors. I used to keep my board in the bathroom and even though I always kept the window open, the humidity from showering caused one of the motors to go bad. Plus, riding on wet pavement is a great way to fall off your board. The pavement becomes slicker than ice.

u/mtrixman · 6 pointsr/boostedboards

From left to right, the boards are the Tan Tien, Dervish Sama, Icarus, and the Boosted Board. Tan Tien and Dervish Sama are more of my cruising boards with the Icarus a carving board. I mostly ride the Dervish and my wife rides the Tan Tien (since it's smaller). Also bought and returned the Loaded Overland (didn't like it as much)

The stands are the guitar stands from Amazon mentioned here a lot. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LBKFYUO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I tried out different trucks and wheels and found the orangatang 80a to be the best for me (same as on the Boosted Board). The 2 on the left have Caliber II trucks. I like the Caliber trucks since they spring back to neutral position quickly which is great for cruising and is very stable. The Icarus is meant for carving so it has looser Paris v2 trucks. I tried the 80mm Orangatang Kegal wheels on these boards and always managed to get wheelbite (and thus crashing) so I went with 70mm wheels and can ride without worrying

Nose and tail guards also from Amazon. Highly recommended as these went flying into the curb a few times and no damage to the board: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGJ8PHM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hope this helps!

Oh, and another stand can always be used.

u/vxcosmicowl · 4 pointsr/femalelivingspace

It's a cute place with good bones- but I see what you mean!

First thing's first, don't be in a rush. There's no need to go buying a bunch of extra stuff just to fill space.

My advice would be to start with what you have already:

  • Unpack/clean up any boxes sitting around full of stuff. Clear off your fireplace area

  • Find a place for things like the Febreeze that isn't 'sitting out in the open' Any cabinet will work :)

  • Make the bed, hang/fold clothes in their proper spaces. Even if you want to get an external closet rack that's fine, just don't leave it draped over everything.

  • Rotate the coffee table and rug so the long side faces the main couch and pull the couch out closer to the doorway. The lounge side is great for creating a barrier and separating the space into two rooms! But you've got it pushed too far into the wall so it makes the space feel claustrophobic

  • I see a guitar beside the couch, get a wall mount (like this) and hang it on the wall (above or beside the couch maybe?). Still easy access, but now it brings some interest to the room

  • In the bedroom, rotate the little bench next to the nightstand so it sits under the window

Now for things you will want to add (slowly):

  • Some candles! Don't need all that febreeze if you get a nicely scented candle (you can get a manly smell like 'Woodland' by Bath & Body Works, or 'Teakwood' or something just clean) Throw a candle on the coffee table or on that fireplace surface.

  • Throw pillows for the couch. Even just one or two that have a different color or texture will be nice.

  • Art! Maybe it's movie posters, or thrift store paintings or pages cut out of a pretty calendar, but hang something up on the walls. Frames don't have to be expensive but I always recommend them if you're going the poster route

  • Plants will add a touch of life to the place, even easy care plants like a succulent or a cactus or some bamboo. It doesn't need to be a huge investment, but a decent pot will do wonders too- get it in a color or pattern you like!

Overall, the space just needs some personality and an appeal for the senses. Adding some colors, some smells and some new textures will really elevate it without breaking the bank!

u/rolfraikou · 3 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Ok, he's my still ghetto but much much less depressing method.

Sleep on the boxes, just cover them up with more fabric. $10

Get the hanging shit off the ceiling, it looks creepy. $0

Go to ikea, don't get a fancy desk. Screw those, they fall apart, and are more difficult to move if they stay together. They have a modular desk system. This is the main surface, and these cheap bastards are the legs.

Very easy to take apart.

Desk: $25 + tax. Let's just say $30.

Now get two or three of these LED strips. At $17 each, these things are pretty cheap. Don't use the adhesive on the back, it's meant to be permanent. Just use another method to attach them to your ceiling in a sort of back and forth zig-zag or S pattern.

If you got three of these, you have ample lighting in your room, two backup-up power supplies if one fails, and three remotes. Use two of those temporary "command-strips" to put two remotes on the wall, one next to your entrance, the other next to your bed, then leave the third as a regular remote. You can now control the lighting, and the entire color of your room from anywhere. I actually hung them slightly low, and pointed them at the ceiling, creating a sort of ambient lighting, and less glare from the individual diodes.

LED ceiling $51 + command strips, and whatever means you use to hang them about $60.

Posters are cheap. 3 posters from target = $22

A cool cube clothing organizer. This is also very modular, and has those doors to keep it from looking too trashy. $67

Put your guitar on this guitar stand. $15

If you have big headphones (I don't see any. If you use earbuds/iems then ignore this) then put this banana holder on your desk. They are perfect for holding headphones, and look cool while doing it. $12

At this point, I've gone slightly over budget it. My guess is around $216 total for all of the above.

Big comfy chairs are huge, and expensive. I suggest checking the free section of craigslist for something like recliners. Just make sure they're bug-free, throw those in there, and throw them away or give them away when you move.

I got lucky, and eventually got a pretty light comfy chair that I do actually move with me now, using this method.

u/proudgary · 3 pointsr/Guitar

You're right, the instrument does not factor in as much as one's interest. Totally right.

Of the packages listed, the first Yamaha one for $159 looks very nice. You'd definitely get more than your money out of it. Yamaha has a great rep. for longevity.

I own this Rogue for $79 and love it to death. I taught Grade 6 and students were allowed to play whenever they wanted - it never got any rest from students or teachers.
I'd get this Snark tuner, this guitar strap, these strings, this string winder, and finally this stand. Oh, and these thin picks.

That gives you a grand total of $119.24. I've either owned or used all of these products and can vouch for them.

Now, the other thing I'm thinking of... there's this instructional book on Google Books, where you get the first 64 pages for free. It's a great resource, but the name escapes me. If I think of it, I'll write back. I hope this helps.

Just got a 6 pack of these:

https://www.amazon.com/VEIDIA-Holders-Hangers-Mandolin-6-Brackets/dp/B0749K3CB5/ref=mp_s_a_1_5

Two screws each. Not the most robust mounts, but these are mostly used for hanging up your instrument when you refill your drink or go to the bathroom.

u/direwolf71 · 3 pointsr/Guitar

This rack with a large blanket to cover them up when not in use.

I do have 2 dogs, but this is a very sturdy, stable rack so really no chance of them knocking a guitar off the rack. Highly recommended. I find I'm playing a lot more often when I can just grab a guitar off the rack and go.

Ok - so you're wanting to stick with the pieces you have. You said in another comment you're thrifty (me too!) and not wanting to spend much, so here's what I'd do:

Right now the dark pieces seem very harsh in the room. I'd embrace the theme of the natural wood accents, and tie in your black pieces by adding in some other natural textures! I was bored/procrastinating and did up a (very choppy) photoshop of what I would do with the space. Here you go! I edited out the clutter just for the sake of the design.

I'd love to see some sort of curtain (beaded?) in front of the vanity to make it feel like a more cohesive room. I think something like this would look really cool, although it's a bit pricy. This is more affordable. You could DIY the circles from the UO one if you like them, I'm sure!

I agree with the other poster about mounting the guitars to the wall and storing the stand.

I would make some dowel frames for your map, and hang it above the mirror. I'd also make a few smaller black and white cardstock prints at Staples (cost you about fifty cents or less per page), do the same with the frames, and stack them vertically along the space of the wall beside your closet door.

Are you crafty? You might be able to make a diffuser shade for your 'boob' light like these folks did.

I'd recommend going to Home Depot / Walmart etc and getting a couple more plants, and putting them in terra cotta pots (they're pretty inexpensive).

I would also get a few baskets and put them on the middle shelf of your bookshelf, to break up the lines and make it less overwhelming to look at.

I would get something for your makeup table to contain your makeup so it looks less cluttered.

Heres some pieces similar to what I photoshopped in that you could pick up on on a budget, but a lot of them could be thrifted if you like hunting!

Beaded Curtain

Lamp Shade

Guitar wall mounts

Linen textured curtains

Basket for makeup brushes

Baskets for shelf organization

I can't see what's going on in your bed area, but if you like my suggestions, I'd be happy to make more recommendations if you post a picture!

i agree with /u/cursethedarkness/ so i have a few suggestions for ideas

also, go vertical for your guitar

You will get a more room in your wardrobe once you fold things properly. Keep all your grooming products in small basket

Keep all your paper organizer, again go vertical.

your wallet, glasses, keys, bags and jacket should go on one of this by the BD door. (i used to take them with me to my room and lose them all the time)

Whats bothering you about the wire basket? it looks like a lot bulky items not properly arranged and small boxes/packaging. If you would get other areas organized im pretty sure you wouldnt need to have that in the room.

Also, can you stack the bookcases? it would save you much more room.

Question, do you have any love for dvd, cds and old games? would you miss them if gone? we live in a digital age so there is that to think about. If you really want to keep them consider moving them to above the wardrobe maybe, if they are not regularly used there is no need for them to be in such an accessible place.

EDIT: crap, i just read you are bone-broke, sorry ... well, even old boxes are good for organizing and avoiding the floor raising clutter piles.

I've had this one forever... I have a few others that have a little more bend to them, but they work perfectly as well. Most guitar stores sell these for $7-$10 and I see an Amazon 2-pack (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019ONS4TC?psc=1) for $12 that would probably work.

I'm not sure this is the least-expensive solution... but moving an old banjo into the closet was all this cost me!

I would hang that stringed instrument on the wall and pick up some simple frames for your posters. Perhaps also pick up some book ends and de-clutter your books and stuff over the desk.

Did you mount the TV yourself? The fact that there aren't a bunch of cords visible is a nice touch for a college kid.

You can use a guitar stand to prop it up in a corner. I got one from Amazon for around 8 bucks, although it seems to have gotten a bit more expensive. Fit my Ownboard W1 without doing anything to the stand itself. I also think it's a pretty awesome way to display your board at the same time :D.

If so, check the back of the neck, it's likely there too. If so, I recommend you DO NOT cleaning it/rub it/buff it for at least a month. It will allow the lacquer to re-cure. The rubbery material of the stand causes a chemical reaction on the nitro that will need to re harden.

The good news is that there are companies who specialize in LP reissues, they even make them more historically accurate. So, if it's that bad, or bothers you, that's always a later option.

I don't know much about that guitar. Generally Yamaha makes very good lower end acoustics. If you see it at the store give it a go and see how it feels! Many people on here advise not going with starter packs, because while you're getting a lot, it's generally lower quality.

Many of the things included in this pack you could get for fairly cheap. I'd advice putting most of your budget toward a guitar you really love and get the accessories after.

For example, when I bought my guitar, I bought the guitar and a soft case, which I think was around $20 and I bought this stand: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Tripod-Guitar-Stand-Security/dp/B018FCZRUW/ref=sr_1_6?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1469461903&sr=1-6&keywords=guitar+stand

I got my strap for $5 (which you probably won't need at the beginning anyway) and I would suggest either getting lessons or starting with the vast amount of Youtube content. JustinGuitar and Marty Swartz are great places to start. Justin Guitar has an entire beginners course, which is what I started on.

Hardly innovative, but it does fold nicely, but not $60 nicely. Here are similar ones for $11, and made by Fender, electric, acoustic

For a gig, bringing a guitar stand isn't a big deal because if you're going to need one, you'll most likely be driving there.

For transparency, I don't use mini stands at all, I find them unstable. I use these

u/rlee0001 · 1 pointr/guitarlessons

Guitar, Amp, Instrument Cable, Headphones, Auto-Tuner, Metronome, Capo, Picks, Strings, Stand, Strap, Bag, String Winder, Polish & Cloth

Don't make them spend more than ~$200 on this. Consider pitching on for some of the accessories at least (though be aware that some of them are quite necessary right off the bat, such as a tuner).

You won't be able to appreciate the difference between a $100 guitar and a $5000 guitar by sound for at least a year and just to get started you need a bunch of supplies (see list above) and the cost adds up quick.

The guitar won't break unless you abuse it. Squier instruments are decent. In fact, you could even get something like a First Act at Walmart for under $100 and still not be able to appreciate the difference for quite a while.

You already have art! It would look awesome to hang the guitars along the back wall, spaced out. You would use hooks like these: https://www.amazon.com/Top-Stage-GraK-Q4-Hangers-Holders/dp/B00LTDON0K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1486312087&sr=8-3&keywords=guitar+hooks

I would recommend moving the TV to the corner where the guitars are now to open up the window. Putting something in front of the window like that makes it appear that you don't have enough room.

Instead of putting the recliner/chair against the wall, I would recommend putting it on the opposite side of the couch angled toward the TV (with its back toward the bar). It looks like it would fit there, a little hard to tell without dimensions. Move the lamp to the other side of the couch and put the end table all the way back against the wall.

I like the "Rarified Air" paint color for the walls. You want to keep it bright for a minimalist look.

I recommend getting a rug, 6x9 at least. It will make the room look bigger. You can put the rug all the way to the back wall and put the couch on top of it if you feel like it extends too far into the room. Use painter's tape to get a feel for the fit. I like these rugs:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-hk110-dimensional-triangles/Green/200HJHK110A-508.html

https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/surya-qtz-5025/Sky-Blue/158QTZ5025-203.html

https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-co6-diamond-cotton-check-flatwoven/Taupe/200HMCO6B-406.html

Before getting a new coffee table and end table, look at it with a rug. With all the furniture being black, it may make the room feel really heavy. You might like the way the wood looks more once it can show some contrast on the rug versus blending in to the floor like it does now.

Throw pillows are where you can have some fun. I'm a fan of these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/490112961/modern-pillow-cover-geometric-blue-throw?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=modern%20pillow%20covers&ref=sr_gallery_26

I use these suepr cheap hangers for a relatively heavy bass, and an almost 10 lb Les Paul. They've lasted for over 2 years with no problem. As long as you mount them into a stud you're good. Do not mount any hanger directly into the drywall. It may hold, but not worth the chance it doesn't.

It’s actually a cheap $12 guitar mount, purchased from Amazon.com. It was suggested to me from a video or blog I encountered, which listed it as one of the best accessories for Boosted Boards. It’s a guitar stand, but it works perfectly for Boosted Boards. Link to the product on Amazon is below...

Here's my input along with links to products.

  1. Put the bed on risers to add storage space.
  2. Make a headboard for your bed. If you're handy, this can be done cheaply. If you're not handy, you can buy one for a reasonable price.
  3. Can the dresser and the desk be swapped? If so, put the desk next to the bed so that you don't wake up to a wall to your right and so you can look out the window while working at your desk. The desk can also serve as a bedside table.
  4. Mount the monitors on the wall to free up desk space. Here are a couple options - two singles and a double.
  5. Re-do the shelves. They have a very garage feel. Some cheap board from the hardware store to even out the sides would make a real difference.
  6. Put at least a picture above the bed on the side that's to your left while sleeping. It should be longer than it is tall. Scenery is good. I have this in my bedroom and I like the effect.
  7. Mount the guitar on the wall.

I would get something like this to put the guitar on the wall since your floor space is at a premium.

u/mrjaguar1 · 1 pointr/guitars

The worst thing I ever used for a guitar stand was a laundry basket with 2 clips on the outside of it to keep the guitar from falling over. That was when I was a lot younger and poorer. Now I use one of these and one of these those work pretty well.

u/C-creepy-o · 1 pointr/Guitar

Almost any mount will do more than 15lbs so long as you hang it in the studs as opposed to using dry wall anchors. I live these mount because they look aesthetically pleasing to me.

https://www.amazon.com/Top-Stage-Acoustic-Electric-JX15NA-Q2/dp/B00ZU6PJCS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521224231&sr=8-4&keywords=guitar+mount

I also recently built a 4 guitar rack that is hanging on just two studs but hold 4 guitars just fine. I would totatlly be willing to hang on it if it was in my house. I just got a 2 x 4 cut it to length sanded it stained it varinished it then I go these cheaper hangers to put into the wood. It looks really nice. https://www.amazon.com/Top-Stage-GraK-Q4-Hangers-Holders/dp/B00LTDON0K/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1521224231&sr=8-8&keywords=guitar+mount

Pro tip: use a guitar stand like this. It works great and is only 10 bucks

u/AllSySt3msG0 · 1 pointr/ElectricUnicycle

The one I got was this one from Amazon Canada and seems to be slightly different. Looking at mine with the Inmotion V8 (13.5kg), I think the weak point of the stand would be that pivot near the two arms that hold the wheel. When I look at pictures of the one you listed the part that I am talking about seems to be rigid which is a good thing given the extra weight of your wheel. I obviously can't say for sure but it seems like a good purchase :)

hang a an old steel guitar with something like this? or perhaps a banjo or mandolin may even fit in with the decor better. also, is that a recessed light at the top of it? i think its a really fantastic space that, if used correctly, would really make the area "pop."

u/stevenknapp847 · 1 pointr/onewheel

This one I tried and did not work. The top of the "A" is right at the middle of the wheel. The board leans too far forward.

Ohh. I was thinking of one of these.

u/diybone · 1 pointr/Guitar

I have bought some "String Swing" wall hangers for a few guitars and even a Ukulele (I know they are much lighter) and they seem very well built. The wood is good quality and it comes with drywall hangers. Sans hanging on them with your own body weight, they would hold just about anything.

u/chhappy7 · 1 pointr/ElectricSkateboarding

Wow the price soared on the one I used. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LBKFYUO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm using this one for my Inboard that is 15~16 lbs with battery in. NO sign of tipping over. I think Koowheel is also ~16 lbs so should work fine. I got mine for ~10 bucks, but it's soared since then. But really, any other ones should work fine too and if it doesn't just return say it can't support your instrument. XD

u/twinkieweiner · 1 pointr/Gifts

Ideas related to guitar:1) Framed guitar poster: https://www.popchartlab.com/products/a-visual-compendium-of-guitars 2) for $200 you could buy a nice additional instrument like a ukulele or a mandolin 3) Guitar hanger http://amzn.to/2vt0pC0 4) Bullet journal for playing notes.

u/PrettyBigChief · 1 pointr/Guitar

Right now, what's holding my pride and joy is a La-Z-Boy from the mid-90's. When my wife's not sitting in the chair, the guitar gets the $15 special from Guitar Center. Upright tripod style.

Those little A-frames suck, IMHO, if we're thinking of the same thing?

u/creepindacellar · 1 pointr/cigarboxguitars

with a guitar hanger. but i guess it might depend how big the head is.

u/nmezib · 1 pointr/Vive

Guitar wall hangers (like these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019ONS4TC) fit the Vive wands perfectly, can also be used for the HMD and/or headphones, and can be mounted to the wall using 3M command strips if you don't want to drill holes. I'm using the wooden bases of the hooks to mount my lighthouses without drilling.

Hang your guitars like art on the wall. my favourite locking version

Some can, some can't. If it's in a local shop why not giving them a call? Something like this can (deep fire acoustic but groove in the middle for the thinner electric)

I guess things I enjoy. Hobbies, experiences, things like that. That's why my music is one of the centerpieces of the room, instead of waiting until I had more space. I have trinkets from travelling around, some currency from foreign countries I could frame, that kind of thing. I was considering hanging my Les Paul guitar on the wall, with either somthing like this hanger or this horizontal one. I also have a little acoustic guitar like this.

Music, life experiences, could be the two main things.

u/optimisticmusician · 0 pointsr/Guitar

Save yourself a lot of time and buy a hanger. Goes right into the stud and has an auto grip. As far as distance, you’ll just have to base that off of the guitar size and where your studs are.

I used these for awhile and it messed up the finish on a couple of my necks. I use these now: http://www.amazon.com/Hercules-GSP38WB-Mountable-Acoustic-Guitar/dp/B0009K9MUA $30 isn't much to spend to take care of something worth hundreds or thousands of dollars.

u/mc_nibbles · -4 pointsr/Guitar
  • Clip on tuner - Convenient and useful on all of my instruments.
  • Seat belt guitar strap - Love the feel of that fabric and how smooth it is on almost any clothing. Mine is a Levi's model with a click belt buckle, I don't think they make it anymore.
  • Guitar Wall Hangers - These things save so much space, and make my office look so cool. A wall of six guitars and two bass just looks awesome.
  • iRig + Garage Band for iOS - This is my go to practice setup and music writing tool. I used to have a fairly complex home studio setup, but most of it got sold off once I got the iRig. Not because it's just as good, but because it's so much faster to set up and use.
  • Stick on pick holders - I've got one of these on all of my heavily played guitars, and they're really handy. Most of my guitars are battered so I'm not worried about finish, otherwise I use a strap pick holder.
