Buy a foot stool to raise the leg that you sit the guitar on. It's more ergonomic.

I have an office chair without arm rests for when I'm sitting. But now I make an effort to play standing with a strap... I didn't for a long time, then I found that I actually had trouble playing while standing. It's taken a while to get it back.

Get one of these. It's one of those things you don't realize you need until you have it. Suddenly, the chair decision isn't as big of a deal in regards to comfort.

I've found it uncomfortable to use a foot stool when playing. My son got me one of these doohickeys and it helps a lot.

Not just on the left leg, but on a left leg that is resting on a raised surface - about five to 8 inches off the ground. One can even buy a foot rest.

Body position is very important. This is one of the things I really recommend seeing an actual teacher in person about. They can help you get your position correct in just a few lessons and then you can go back to youtube.

Your left leg should be higher than your right (assuming your right handed) So putting your foot up on a phone book would help or you could get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Stage-FS7850B-Guitar-Foot-Rest/dp/B000CD1R7K

Your left hand thumb should be pointed generally towards the headstock. Then you practice playing barre cords as lightly as you possibly can, but still fretting them. If you find yourself baring down, stop and start over. If you're putting too much pressure on the fretboard your also ruing your intonation. That pressure acts just like a bend.

Again, I really recommend a teacher for this sort of thing. The sort of direct feedback you get from a teacher is invaluable for posture.

This is the one I have. Kinda pricey. But the ability to adjust is nice.

Don't buy him picks. My mother is constantly buying me picks. It's just weird.
