I bought everything over the course of a year waiting for sales, so I think in total (including tailoring) all of the above cost me around $500-$600, though a lot of it can be reused on other occasions.

Her dress, meanwhile, cost around $50 + ~$130 in (somewhat dishonest...) tailoring, $20 for the shoes, $45 for the circlet, and $0 in borrowed jewelry. She did all of her own makeup and hair and stuff so those costs were fairly trivial. She also knitted the shawl herself for around $25 worth of yarn from Michaels and around 25 hours in time while we watched tv some evenings.

25 dollars won't get you too far, but each of these is around 25 dollars or less.

Like some people, even wearing the rift with the triangle as far down as I can manage, there's a firm pressure on my cheek bones that eventually turn into pain. Having a counterweight helps balances out the rift and prevent it from doing this. Also, since the extra weight is dangling off the back of the headset, it does not really add any weight pressure to your head, it just kinda keeps the rift balanced correctly.

Bill of Materials:

(you may want to grab the weights elsewhere as the price had gone up, it was $5 when I bought it)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0057563UO

Making it is pretty simple. First I laid down the handkerchief flat on the table. Then I peeled the adhesive cover and stacked the four weight bars two by two on the sheet with the bottom side up so that when I fold in the handkerchief, it will stick on to the bottom of the weights. I kept the folds together with some double sided tape and finished up with a velcro tie to be able to latch on to the rift to (3 is probably overkill btw, it should be perfect with 2).

BTW, the weights come in a set of 4 for 60gx4= 240g total which is perfect. I was dumb and bought 4 as I thought it only comes with one stick. As a a result, I have enough materials to make another 2 counterweights. If anyone wants one, I can ship them out for the cost of shipping (~$7 for small flat rate box within US).

I actually bought white handkerchiefs on Amazon and did my own silkscreen! I ordered my custom silkscreen design on Etsy for $12. Silk Screen paint is $15.

It was very easy and they came out perfect! Looked super expensive. Did 200 for about $80!

We ordered beads too and Mardi Gras masks and I did NOLA Paparazzi Photo Booth

We also did homemade pralines as favor handouts and satchels of Tony’s spices! Those were the biggest hit!

My advice is to wear a tuxedo (or navy/black suit depending on how formal your prom is) with a white shirt and conservative tie and get a white pocket square with red trim. Something like this:

The red bow tie might come off as a little too "Barbershop Quartet"

I use these. You can throw them in the washer and you get a ton of them for 12 bucks.

It’s not very soft but a few washes should do the trick. I plan to buy a couple more in other colors.

Are you wearing a black tux? if so I do not recommend matching her. You could try and wear a gold pocket square but i think that would look cheap.
perhaps something like this where only the edge of the pocket square is gold. Also make sure your tux/ suit is not a rental if it is a rental forget about matching and buy your own tux/suit

So for a full set, black tux, a white tuxedo shirt, a bow-tie, a vest, a corsage, and a pocket square

I'd love to wear a cummerbund - I feel like it would work better for this get-up, but when everyone actually gets to dancing, I'd stick out like a sore thumb (in a bad way).

I've got a few handkerchief sets, as I started using them about two years ago (for copious amounts of nasal discharge, not for sweat), and the first one was from Dockers, with sharp looking brown or blue banding around the edge of each:

https://www.amazon.com/Dockers-Mens-Piece-Hankie-Fashion/dp/B005N45PCG

They're still the best ones I've used. For some reason, 6 handkerchiefs x 3 sets = about 5 handkerchiefs. I don't understand the math, all I know is that I'm waiting on these to arrive:

https://www.amazon.com/Dockers-Mens-9-Piece-Hankie-Gift/dp/B005N45PH6

If they're anything like the first set, I'd say they are absorbent, soft, and durable, for at least two years, without being bulky or odd looking.

This all I could find so far, a ten pack

u/stirus · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Do you think it matters if the pink isn't exactly the same shade as my shirt? I like this one a lot but wasn't sure if it'd work since it's probably going to be close but not the same shade as my shirt.

u/buyers-remorse · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I picked up a silk, white one for ~$4 from a Men's Warehouse outlet after automatic 50% off last month. They had a bunch of colors and patterns.

Amazon also has options in bulk like this. Not sure about the quality, though.

Buy a bandana. Or you could buy handkerchiefs online: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4L7ZHZ/
