Been there, done that. Easier than you think.

Get a humane trap, set it with a tempting bit of food (not cheese, use nuts or a bit of pork rind or something).

Put the trap against the skirting in a corner. If it's behind something (like a standing lamp) all the better. You want to be able to access it easily without knocking it over, but at the same time have it not so exposed that it'll scare the mouse off.

It'll likely be in the wee hours when it gets caught. As soon as you know it's in there, put the whole trap in a shoe box for easy transport, and release it at least a mile from your house, preferably somewhere suitable (park, woodland, scrubland, abandoned lot etc).

Try to minimise the time the mouse spends in the trap, and don't try to handle it.

They'll always make a bit of effort to try and get out the trap at first, but if it's squeaking like crazy and making a huge fuss it's probably a female with young still on milk. Not that it makes a difference to what you do - it's just something to be aware of.

Set the trap for the next one, as it's unlikely there's only one mouse.

When you've had two days and no trapped mouse (and you haven't seen one running about), then you're clear.

Obviously make sure your house is clean of food waste, surfaces wiped etc otherwise it has no reason to go into your trap.

Also check shoes, corners, boxes etc to make sure it's not using any as a nest or food store.

Buy them some haynes engine kits, it will teach them a lot. You can get ones that light up when they spark, helped me learn in college. Dont give them instructions though because thats too easy!

See for example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EQ4JOBC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3HR5BbQY2HX6W

Edit: if school has a 3D printer you could "modify" the engines.

Here's one, different colors tho. Seems this ships to the US

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tesa-Mosquito-Insect-Hook-Replacement/dp/B0024ROMNS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1491738838&sr=8-13&keywords=window+insect+net

Can vouch for these, I've used them (not this particular brand, just browse around for one you like).

Pros:

  • Stops every single insect coming in.

  • Allows you to keep your windows open

  • Cheap

    Cons:

  • Have to take it down to clean your windows and it can't be reused

If you're struggling with insects find somewhere outside to hang one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004OJBGYC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You end up with a big jar of dead things but it's incredibly effective.

Here are the minis I used for the treasure piles. I used them in conjunction with these treasure chests.

However, if you can spend a little bit more money, I think this treasure crate by Mantic is actually a better option. Mantic crates are a really great value for terrain pieces.

It looks like this is the same thing, even has a similar tag line than our 30 Seconds

EDIT: We sometimes play a penalty version of the original, for when people describe the wrong thing eg: On the card it said Gestapo - the guy then proceeded to describe Gepetto - Pinocchio's maker - so he had to take a penalty shot, which of course leads to more mistakes

Amateur opinion: hiking bag with PALS webbing (MOLLE). Quick search finds something like this, although you'll want more than 50L (and something that doesn't look so cheap). What's great about MOLLE bags is that you can keep all your trekking gear in the main bag, then put your camera gear in pouches like this, and similar pouches for lenses. Plus you can then transfer the pouches onto other MOLLE bags if you want to switch to day bags for when you're not in the Guatemalan jungle.

I've not used that system but I built my own using these parts, and it seems to work well -

Timer

Sprinklers

Small hose

Large hose

Spinkler stems

Small to large hose connectors

Pressure reducer

why don´t you put them in

if you do´n´t want to install something solid, you could also buy some "Screen glue band that you put around the window and then slam the Screen on it.

I carefully use a finger nail to remove what I can and use a dab of sticky stuff remover (which you can get here, I definitely recommend it) on a tissue to remove residual glue and to loosen up the remaining paper. You have to be careful when rubbing as you don't want to remove the ink of the sleeve but if you're careful you shouldn't have any issues. It does probably depend on the type of sleeve, through - I've mostly only tried this on modern covers. I also give the area a quick wipe-over with a wet wipe to remove any residue after I'm done. Works like a charm for me.

Can't remind the exact model (will try to look for it on the shoes itself tonite) but it looks a little bit like those (https://www.amazon.com/Salewa-Wild-Hiker-Mid-Boot/dp/B07B6VGFW7/ref=sr_1_50?dchild=1&keywords=salewa+gtx&qid=1573585081&sr=8-50) but slightly higher

I use quiet fidgets to keep my hands busy -- something like this or this. Sometimes I just make to-lists.

I live 3/4 of a mile from the nearest grocery store and I use a cart like this: https://www.amazon.com/ROLSER-Stainless-Steel-Polyester-Trolley/dp/B075V5DZ2K/

I don't know how to drive and live in Cambridge MA. I do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's which is over a mile from my house (about half a mile past my work). My work is 3/4 of a mile from my house and there's a Target nearby. (I get 1-2 things from there many days after work, don't even need the cart for that.) There is also another grocery 3/4 of a mile from my house in the direction opposite work.

Going to be moving soon where I'll be even further from groceries :/

But I consider it to be a great privilege to not have to drive, so I don't really mind.

I basically never involve transit with grocery shopping.

Oh god that's horrible. Maybe you and your roomates can just get actual humane traps and release the poor buggers elsewhere. Amazon seems to have loads of options that don't kill them:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-Mouse-Trap-4-5-17/dp/B000WFI866/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457202888&sr=8-2&keywords=humane+mouse+trap

With electric are you meaning something like that? Hkiytime Ultrasonic Pest Repeller, Plug in Insect Repeller,4 Pack Ultrasonic Pest Control Repellent against Mosquito, Cockroach, Mice, Rodents, Spiders, Flies, Ants, Fleas https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07S43JXBG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mKnsDbH2RADZC

Just to let you know that those ones are bad for guinea pig and any other rodent, so just keep that on mind.

I have a flies problem aswell sometimes, I can't have my balcony door open because with the hot weather there are lots of flies and they come inside the flat and they fly around my guineas cage. Other times, even if I clean the cage, the flies just appear from nowhere so I had to buy a few things. I have this Pawaca 24 PCS Fly Paper Ribbons,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H25MGS8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share hanging on the roof on top of the guineas cage and also, I have this one STV International STV334 Fly... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004OJBGYC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share on my balcony.

The one hanging is alright, it trap some flies, but not all of them but the one I have on my balcony, omg, that one traps a lot of them, but that one is to keep outside the house... You can try the strips and see how its going.

Hope this can help you and sorry for the big text 😅😅

If you haven't already got it, Articulate is a superb party/ board game night game. Its charades but done vocally, against a timer. Its also a team game, and works well with 6+people.

SPPrincesa is the goddess of all things board games.
