Sure looks like a keratin treatment is part of it but genetics, water and the right shampoo/conditioner can go a long way.

Related: I have big hair. Frizzes easily. Spent years and $$$ on anti-frizz serums and shampoo/conditioners. Turns out all that noise about ionic blah blah and ceramic this and that, um, well it actually works. This is my new religion and I'm evangelizing about it to anyone who suffers from big hair like me: https://www.amazon.com/Revlon-One-Step-Hair-Dryer-Volumizer/dp/B01LSUQSB0?th=1

I bought a hair dryer round brush. So instead of blow drying your hair then straightening it, you blow dry it with the brush and it gives you a lovely, shiny blowout. This is the one I have.

My entire hair game has changed - my hair is much longer, looks incredibly healthy (and is), looks thicker and fuller, has less breakage, etc. My hairdresser was like what’s your secret your hair looks so great. Best $50 I’ve spent on amazon for sure.

u/Ealle · 12 pointsr/HaircareScience

My hair turns out like hay too if I don't use a heat protector spray and a high heat from the blow dryer. My hair is naturally curly/frizzy. The high heat + the heat protector (I use Tresemme) is the only thing I've found that will get my hair silky smooth. I think the barrel brush also helps to smooth out the hair cuticles cuz I don't get the same silky smooth result from straightening my hair.

Also, my blow dry savior is this thing from Amazon. I was dubious at first, but omg. This thing is my bestie now. Probably the best $50 I spent all year.

Oh yeah no, please don’t buy the Dyson— it won’t be able to make a dent in hair that long.

I have a conair Revlon brush dryer, too, a giant “volumizing” one, and it’s the best I’ve tried. I also have to get my hair mostly dry with a regular dryer before I use it, but honestly the results with the Conair brush are as good or better than the results I got with the Dyson round brush attachment— in half the time or less.

And the Dyson curling attachments won’t even begin to work on your super long hair, no way. They’re too short to fit any hair on! Especially if it’s hard to curl? Forget it.

Is my daughter your sister? Seriously. My daughter is 11, but everything you said is identical to her all the way down to the damn Guinea Pigs! I can give you some ideas from her Christmas list. Of course there's the gallon of glue for slime - clear, not the white. She specifically asked for this Slime accessory kit off Amazon.

At that age she is probably just getting into makeup so those kits such as this one are perfect for experimenting.

Wireless headphones are this year's big gift so I don't have to listen to her stupid Tik Tok videos.

She's been asking for her own electric toothbrush for about a year now so she's getting one.

She loves using tools to do her hair and all of my friends have talked about this tool and it has incredibly decent reviews (I have that on my own wish list, but I know my daughter would be jealous).

I got her a subscription to Muse magazine that's for kids 9-12 that are interested in science or crafts. Order it from their own site if you want an extra issue to actually give her at Christmas.

This particular umbrella because all girls this age love the Eiffel Tower for some reason and having their own umbrella is a big deal I guess...

A gift card to a makeup or jewelry place would be loved as well as cool gel/liquid/retractable highlighters.

If you need any more ideas I'm sure I can pull some more stuff out lol

My husband and I both have long hair(mine is about to my mid back, his is usually layered to his chin. We have a toddler and both work, and work out in the morning before work, so we need a very quick way to style our hair. We use a combo straightner-blow dryer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PTZCNS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Z6SKAb50KJKP6

I'm sure there are others, but this one has worked for us.

I have thick but fine curly/wavy hair that is pretty much completely unmanageable most of the time and the BEST thing I ever did was purchase a Revlon One-Step Volumizer/Hair dryer. Its basically a hair dryer that is a big round brush and it gives me a smooth salon blowout every time. It makes my hair silky and straight and I never have to use a straightener and although after a couple days my hair will go a little wavy again the smoothness stays and makes your hair so manageable until the next time you wash it. I ordered mine off amazon but I think you can find them in walmart etc. I would suggest watching some youtube reviews of it to see how its used and the results, I got the hang of it quickly and found it easy to use. I also HIGHLY recommend pureology shampoo + conditioner..even though its pricey its 110% worth it and I honestly don't think I'll ever use anything else.

Hope this helps :)

Revlon makes this dryer, and it has saved my naturally curly life. I cant give myself a blow out worth anything but this makes it sooo easy.

Does anyone have a hot styling brush like this? My hair is fine and thinning, 95% straight, past my shoulders, and needs volume. I am a hair idiot, whenever I try to blow dry (even if I try sectioning, using a round brush and various products, etc) I end up with tons of flyaways and frizz, so I usually just let it air dry overnight and hope for the best. I’m hoping a product like this will give me a quick way to get volume and reduce flyaways in the morning on mostly dry hair.

Sorry for no formatting, on mobile. I have this and it works really nicely. If my hair isn't damp when I want to use the styler, I just spray down my hair a little to dampen it. However, It doesn't spin. I actually like that it's not moving because I'm super careful with my hair. It allows me to control how fast it moves through my hair. This may be a great option if you're looking for more bouncy volume.

It's also in drug stores like CVS but it's ~$35 there.

Hope this helps!

u/knitmybit · 3 pointsr/ehlersdanlos

Absolutely! I bought mine at an Ulta Store. I had not seen the new style of air dryer in person or known anyone personally that had used one yet, Otherwise I would have ordered mine from Amazon!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LSUQSB0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_qgG4Cb4FT51ZY

There was the other brand I wanted to look at too by BabyBliss. The main difference in the two (other than $10-15), was the BabyBliss version had a self-turning button, clockwise & counterclockwise. I was thinking anything more to help, right?!
The reviews were mixed, with the largest complaint being the brush stopped turning. Second complaint was that strands of hair would get twisted into it causing them to be pulled from your head.

All in all, I’m beyond thrilled that I was only able to purchase the Revlon brand at the store!
Best of luck, hope it helps you!
Cheers

Depends on which style you got. The one I see ads for is the shitty cheap one that doesn't work as well. The one I see that supposedly does work well is like this: https://www.amazon.com/Straightener-CNXUS-Adjustable-Temperatures-Straightening/dp/B0714J2X7T/

I blow dry straight frequently (it gives a nice bounce and volume to my hair) so I invested in one of these bad boys- Infiniti Pro by Conair Spin Air Rotating Styler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004INUWX0/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_MNMsub0M42655

and omg so much easier for me. it requires so much less hand eye coordination and my arms don't get tired anymore. When I felt I had to prop my blow dryer up on the towel rack and duck underneath it with my round brush I figured I should start looking at options.

I totally feel this from before I started treatment - it was almost impossible to hold my hair dryer.

I don't have a suggestion exactly, but two things to consider: they have these hair dryer brushes these days (like this) which are great and lightweight, but aren't exactly a typical hairdryer. There are also hair dryer stands, which if she has a hair dryer she already likes, she can stick in in the stand on a vanity/countertop so she doesn't have to hold it up.

You can get rollers really cheap at $2 stores and if you want a bonnet to attach to your hairdryer they’re cheap on EBay but just blow drying the rollers will work fine- just a bit tiring on your hand 😄

u/medaox · 2 pointsr/femalehairadvice

I would suggest investing in a round blow dryer like this and using a texturizing mousse or spray like Rusk spray or Bumble& Bumble mousse to give you some lift. You can use the blow dryer to start from the roots to lift for volume, then towards the ends blow dry one way, and over-correct it so it turns out more straight.

I could never get the hang of regular blow dry and brush techniques. That round dryer is a life saver and dries super fast :)

edit: the dryer I have linked is not the one that I have, but its similar. Try looking for something with soft we bristles too.

Straightening doesn't have to damage your hair, people who damage their hair with straightening are doing it on way too high of a heat and for far too long. It's easy to straighten your hair and keep it healthy. First, I recommend you buy one of these, an ionic straightening brush. Use it at it's lowest temp (300), and just gently and evenly run it through your hair. It's very easy on the hair, and works incredibly well.

Now, onto the image, that's pretty much what I was thinking you'd pick. You don't really have a choice with your part, seeing as it's pretty obvious you've got a strong cowlick, but your hair and his hair part in very close proximity to each other, so here are the steps.

  1. Shower, wash, and condition your hair. Conditioning is important, and it's hard to tell from your picture whether or not you use conditioner.
  2. Blow-Dry with a brush on low/cool if you can to eliminate frizz. Make sure to blow dry your hair with each side of the part going the way you want it to ultimately look.
  3. Lightly straighten your hair to remove the strong wave you have going in the bangs using an ionic brush like I linked above (this will get the straightening more even throughout and also get closer to the root of the hair than flat irons will).
  4. Get a soft hold pomade (dealers choice really, it's just for texture, you may want to ask a barber what you need), rub a dime to quarter sized bit of it in your palms until it's warm, then run your fingers through your hair (this will help the hair you straightened stay in place and maintain a straight look without fly-aways).

You should be able to sleep on this look, wake up, and have it be good the second day, but if it just isn't working the next day, repeat the process.

That's basically it, you may need to visit a barber to get the cut to the lengths shown in the picture after you've tested out the regimen, but ultimately, you should be able to achieve that with the steps above.

    Good luck!

I love my John Frieda Hot Air Brush! Its not exactly a straightener, but it gets my hair straight & will also do big soft curls. Best is the price - under $40!

u/mrsj74 · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have the same kind of hair and recently got a long angled bob. I'm also terrible at styling, but a few months ago, I got one of these and it makes styling much easier!

u/liondsey · 2 pointsr/FancyFollicles

I have hair that is around shoulder length. It used to be in a bob/long bob, but has been growing out. I typically do a rough blow dry and then run over the mid-end with the straightener, attempting to curl the ends inward (toward my head) by turning the straightener. The only product I use is heat protectant (aside from shampoo/conditioner). This had been working when my hair was shorter, but since it now hits my shoulders more, I feel it is rebelling and flipping back outward. I'm asking for any advice on styling and or products. Do I need to use hairspray? Round brush? Would one of those heated round brushes (i.e. this ) help since I don't think I'm coordinated enough to use both a hairdryer and round brush? Thanks in advanced for your help and consideration!

u/WarlockPanda · 2 pointsr/AustralianMakeup

Amazon! They have quite a few but I bought this one. They are also stocked on iHerb but I wanted to purchase a couple of other things of Amazon at the time and their price was cheaper after conversion.

u/EricDeuce · 2 pointsr/beards

I like my cheap one from Amazon Think it works like a charm. Does take a while, so it adds some serious time to getting ready.

I also don’t use it everyday because I’m not trying to fry what I’ve got.

For what it’s worth I can almost guarantee the guys featured in the advertisements are not using the products being sold.

u/SingForMeBitches · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I didn't use this guide, but it explains it pretty well. I used to dry my hair around a round brush first, then wrap the hair around a roller, but now I use this thing before setting it in rollers because it's longer than my brush and gets the job done more quickly.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I've stopped straightening my hair, but when I was, learning how to round brush was a game changer. It maintains some body instead of causing your hair to go flat. If that's a challenge (and yeah it was a challenge), the Revlon One Step was my other go-to. I actually used it in place of the round brush method because it was just so easy.

u/fosh1zzle · 2 pointsr/BeardTalk

They suuuuuck. I have something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Straightening-GLAMFIELDS-Straightener-Anti-scald-Temperature/dp/B07DCP4CLR/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=heated+brush&qid=1568726268&s=gateway&smid=A3L2W1AP6BSHXS&sr=8-7 That I paid $16 that works great. I turn it on. Jump in the shower. Get out, I just brush out my beard with a different pointed brush, then use this after the show to brush it down.

u/FreeCookies6 · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I use a spin brush, not a hair dryer. It does a much better job of making the hair look smooth and shiny, rather than frizzy. It's great, and makes my hair look similar to if I just came from a salon.

Either with a blow dryer and comb or one of [these](Ionic Hair Straightener Brush, CNXUS MCH Ceramic Heating + LED Display + Adjustable Temperatures + Anti Scald Hair Straightening Brush, Portable Frizz-Free Hair Care Silky Straight Heated Comb https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0714J2X7T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PGnwDb54J6Q99). I also bought a nice wooden comb that has nice rounded teeth. Those cheap black ones do damage to the hairs.

u/REEB00T · 1 pointr/beards

Less damaging than a straightener and more friendly than blower/comb. Just make sure to oil your beard before applying any sort of heat to it.

https://www.amazon.com/John-Frieda-Hot-Brush-inch/dp/B0056GDG90

And I know exactly what you mean with parting it the other way lol. I always have to wet it down to style it right.

Coming back to your post you look sooo much like a girl I know and she’s bright blonde and always wearing short hair. Either pixies or with thick side bangs which I think you could pull of easily, blonde too. Y’all both kinda remind me of Michelle Williams.

u/Iowa_Dave · 1 pointr/beards

I've been playing with this brush and it works to a point. My beard will lay down a bit more after brushing. If I slather on some beard butter then it acts like spackle and will stay put. For a while.

An hour later I feel like I have a tumbleweed on my face again.

I guess I'm still in the research phase, hoping I can train my whiskers over time. I'll be interested to watch this thread for any tips or tricks or magical incantations.

u/IIIRuin · 1 pointr/AustralianMakeup

I've been upping my hair game the last few months and have been overhauling everything I own. I've been trialing a few hair products.

Hair dryer/Styling Brush: Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser. Where's this thing been all my life? It's been all over YouTube and people are raving about how good it is for great blow-outs. I'm terrible at drying my hair with a round brush and this this makes it stupid easy. It leaves my frizzy, thin, fine hair so shiny and voluminous. They aren't sold in AU so I had to get mine from the UK. The ones from the US won't work here. Milabu did a great review.

Hair treatment: Olaplex. There's nothing to say aside from it's worth it. Catch occasionally have the travelling stylist kit which is far better value for money instead of constantly buying tiny bottles of Step 3.

Leave-in/Heat Protectant/Frizz reducer: Revlon Uniq One was recommended by my stylist and it's pretty amazing. I spray it on my hair after washing and it leaves it very manageable and silky. Sprayed in when dry it detangles and tames fly-aways. It's great not having to use several products.

Conditioner: Muk 1 minute treatment Another product my stylist rec'd. Myself and a couple friends all use this instead of normal conditioner. I have chronically dry hair that I could never get to feel soft. Even without heat styling it would slurp up conditoner and still feel like straw. A tiny bit goes a long way and leaves my hair so silky.

Hair regrowth: Minoxidil 5% aka Regaine/Rogaine. I lost about 2/3 of my hair volume in my early 20's and it really got me down. Rogaine is an absolute rip-of in Australia. The generic brand from Costco is AUD 40 for a 6 month supply on eBay and amazon. Labelled a 3 month supply but once a day is enough and I've had fantastic results. I'm also using it on my eyebrows to make them thicker since I always had a couple patches that never grew any hair. If you have cats make sure you keep it away from them as it's highly toxic to them.

Does anybody know what are the ingredients of TOSOWOONG SOS Repair CICA Clinic SPOT POWDER/Centella dressing powder? Thanks!

u/ilovethefall- · 1 pointr/philadelphia

This will probably be buried but, ladies...
Go buy this right now.

My hair is unmanageable. It's dry and sort of curly but not really and my default is to just brush it into a bun and leave it alone. I am so tired of dealing with it and drying/straightening is painstaking for me. I saw this advertised on the Today show IG of all places. Fuck it, 50 bucks? Sure. Amazon will take it back if I don't like it.

I unboxed it less than 20 minutes ago and wanted to just test it out of my dry, unwashed hair. I did 2 passes through one section then was able to straighten my entire head of shoulder length hair in less than 4 minutes. I swear to god. This shit is magic. This is the best beauty purchase I've made in ages. It looks like I got a blow out at a salon. I seriously want to cry because this is so great. I am going to wash my hair tomorrow so I am curious to see how fast it dries!

u/speculates · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Anyone have any recommendations for a hot air brush? I was thinking about buying this one. I have thick longish hair.

u/kotletki · 1 pointr/keto

Three things!

  1. http://www.amazon.com/John-Frieda-JFHA5-Brush-inch/dp/B0056GDG90
  2. http://www.amazon.com/John-Frieda-Luxurious-Volume-Booster/dp/B001BAROMK/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1394129699&sr=1-4&keywords=volume
  3. I've been making a conscious effort to wash my hair less. It's very difficult for me (I love feeling squeaky clean), but every woman I've ever met who has good hair has told me that she doesn't wash it much. I probably only manage to skip one day per week, but I used to wash my hair twice a day, so it's made a difference.

Can you scrunch it and make it wavy/curly?? I do that when I air dry and it looks pretty decent. I use: https://www.amazon.com/TIGI-Catwalk-Curls-Rock-Amplifier/dp/B0007506U2/ref=zg_bs_11057901_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=WDK5ED4PSE13MM70MCT2&th=1 when it's wet, scrunch it up, twirl some of it together for bigger curls and let it go. I also have this for days I dry it and wear it straight: https://www.amazon.com/Revlon-Salon-One-Step-Dryer-Volumizer/dp/B01LSUQSB0 and it cuts the blow drying/straightening time in half cause it's doing both at the same time.

And had absolutely no problems over the past few years. If you are U.K. based, Darkstar vapour is a credible place to get PG/VG/nic shots and flavourings.

Edit: while it’s on my mind and a mini rant. Holy fuck do not sign up to any email list from darkstar. Do you want 3 emails promoting a one hour flash sale? And I mean, one announcing the sale, one saying the sale has started and the last one is 15 minutes left. And I feel like this is at least several times a month, along with other promo emails.
