• This was a bit of a mistake purchase. I wanted to test and see if a small model offered on amazon (this looked to be one of the best for sub $50, and has the biggest holding tank out of them all) could put in any kind of noticeable work in a tent. What I noticed is that it will be able to roughly maintain humidity at times, after I run the exhaust fan to lower the levels. When the lights are out and the temperature drops, this thing has no chance. Go with a full size dehumidifier or rely on the dry Colorado air + passive intake + duct fan. I was struggling with humidity issues during the cold of the winter, now that I can have my windows open my ambient room humidity is usually 40% or below.

I worked in a super quiet office environment but I need constant gentle airflow.

I got this Seville Classics black cylindrical fan which has 3 speeds and also oscillates and has a sleep timer. On the lower 2 speeds, it is extremely quiet, so quiet that folks who come to my desk feel that they have suddenly come into the chilly presence of evil or death because they cannot hear the fan nor feel anything more than a gentle movement of air.

It is also a tall 16-20" cylinder that is only about 5-6" wide, so it fits in right next to my monitor unobtrusively and has a very small footprint compared to the others mentioned here.

On a related note I lived near the freight lines near Humboldt Park a few years back and the whistle always seemed to be going when I was trying to sleep. It took a few weeks to stop noticing it.

VR Covers are pretty much #1 rated in terms of thier effectiveness. Mines arriving in a few hours actually :D. Due to the amount you perspire, I suggest you coming a VR cover with a headband. Also, what games are you playing that cause you to sweat so much? Are you a larger individual playing intense games? Or are you like how I was and had the damn thing strapped to my face like it was an an oxygen mask lol? Also, consider getting an oscillating fan.

The 1200w would be fine in a 3x3, you wont burn them. Just make sure the lights height is adjusted higher early on.

I have one like this and it's wonderful!

My husband and I have our DIY setup in our garage and absolutely love it! I was hesitant to purchase a new Peloton since I had never been the workout-at-home type and was worried this expensive piece of workout equipment would become a dust collector in our garage. We decided to try the DIY workaround before investing a lot of money into the "real" thing.

We use a Sunny B1805 with the Wahoo Cadence sensor attached to the crank arm. I really wanted a magnetic belt drive and this one was probably the most affordable we found. I wish we had spent a little more and invested in a bike that comes with SPD pedals since I know we will be upgrading those in the near future. Other than that the bike is great and I highly recommend it!

We live in CA where the weather is mild pretty much all year so we decided to put the bike in our garage. We screen cast the classes to a TV we have hung up on the wall using an AppleTV and use our phones to view cadence in the Wahoo app. I also have a FitBit Versa that I use for HR purposes, though it does not sync with the Peloton app (huge bummer).

Other odds and ends we have in our setup: WiHoo Mini Handheld Portable Fan we attach to the tablet holder, floor fan, a set of Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbells for strength classes (we don't do weights on the bike), and a basic Yoga mat.

It has surprised me just how happy I am with this setup! I thought I would feel like I was missing out by not having the leader board and not being able to track my stats. But I have yet to take a live class since the times don't work well for us west coasters with 9-5 jobs and commutes. And while I would like to be able to see output and resistance, I don't feel like my workout is suffering for not having them. I used to take spin classes regularly and most of those were about feel rather than exact numbers.

We've been using this setup since July and, honestly, I don't see myself buying a Peloton now. If anything I may upgrade to a better bike at some point. But for $20 a month I am getting an excellent workout that dips and sways with my schedule. I don't think I could justify being locked into $40 a month when I don't feel I am missing out much on the extras that come with the full price.

Alright, here in Metric format. You can convert pretty easily:

2.74 kg top sirloin steak (you want pieces about 2-3cm (1") thick.
Salt (coarse crystal sea salt) 45 ml
Coriander (mortar and pestle) 40 to 50 ml of ground coriander
Brown sugar 13 ml (optional)
Pepper 1.75 ml


Sprinkle on the meat and lightly sprinkle each layer with malt vinegar. Cover and refrigerate overnight for 10 hours.


Mix 1/2 cup malt vinegar in 2 litres boiling water. Pull the meat fairly rapidly one piece at a time through the water. Push string through one end with a skewer and tie to rod or string in drying box. Takes about 48-72 hours.


A note on the box, a simple cardboard box works. Cut holes in the sides near the top and create a grid of string to hang your meat on.

Hey, it's a bit pricey but this is the most amazing fan I have ever seen. It comes with a remote and the tower design will fit easy in a dorm. I actually replaced a huge, steel patio fan with this thing. If you tape some ice packs to the intake vents, it will blow cold like AC. My tent sits in near-outdoor conditions, so I have to keep temps up. The smaller device is a Lasko MyHeat Personal Ceramic Heater controlled by a Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat. It pushes enough heat to keep temps as high as ambient +30.

great question, in my 3x3 I have two 42'' oscillating tower fans and two 6'' clip on fans which clip on the tent poles.

What is your fan setup for cooling the print as it is printing?

I found I had a lot of problems without having a fan blowing on the print as it's printing. I'm currently printing Hatchbox PLA and Makerbot PLA at 195-200c, 60c bed at 20-30mm/s and don't have any more curling issues since I put a full size blower fan in front of my printer. I also use painters tape and alcohol for bed adhesion.

Things like a fan (~$60) dedicated to him in his room, and an elevated bed (~$21) to better facilitate keeping him cool that we managed to fit in his crate (orange may have pics?).

Some items to save US headaches include rug tape (~$15) to keep him and our stuff from getting slid around as he plays, a light-weight crate (~$86) for when we bring him with us to places and need a place for him to lay down and relax, mainly for when we are doing stuff with our other dog.

LOTS of clickers were purchased just so they are always handy. Some other oddities, like balance balls and stuff just to get him used to being on strange surfaces. This is mainly to set him up for future competition success, though.

Bitter Apple spray to make sure he doesn't chew things he shouldn't (rugs, shoes, couches, chairs, base board, electrical wires...basically anything that isn't his toy got sprayed daily for the first few weeks). Lots of Natures Miracle & paper towels to clean up any accidents.

I would never have even looked at it, but he bought it, brought it home and got it going. Best fan I've ever owned.

I have never had a Lasko or Vornado fail on me. And I'm not using 30 year old stainless steel Made in Chicago, or whatever Vornado, I'm talking about a 5-6 year old Chinese one. It gets fairly heavy use. Lasko fans are largely Assembled in USA of imported parts.

Regarding the tower fan--I own some Lasko box fans and some standard Vornado air circulators. Obviously tower fans are a different breed of fan, so your mileage by vary, but either of these two brands are fine by me.

EDIT: If I recall, Air King is the higher end and/or commercial line of Lasko, or something like that. Air King makes this tower fan which has good reviews. I would either get that or get a Vornado and hope for the best.

Here is a slim one that looks like mine. They’re really cheap and easy to store since they’re so slim! Just put it in the room during the hot days and put it in the closet when you no longer need it.
This way you don’t ruin the aesthetic of your room and you chose when you have a fan out.

They work GREAT! Can point it at you, have it blast through the room, have it rotate 160 degrees. Some even come with a heating option for when you’re cold!

I've fought PM a lot over the last year.

At first I tried cutting out the worst leaves & spraying with milk. It helped for a day or two but it gave my tent a sour milk smell and the PM was back in a couple days. I would not recommend it.

Then I bought a 70pt dehumidifier. It lowered my RH from about 55% to 35%. This helped the spread a little, but it was still pretty bad.

I then started spraying Nuke 'Em. It didn't completely eliminate it, but it became very controllable. It took ~2 weeks between sprays before I would start seeing it again.

Initially I had 3 small fans providing air circulation in the tent. It seemed like enough at the time, but after adding one of these for the canopy, and one of these for below I've been able to reduce my spray frequency to ~3 weeks and I could probably go even longer between.

I know it's a combination of all of the above, but Nuke 'Em and increased airflow seemed to have the most impact. If there aren't any leaves worse than what's shown in the first photo, and you get some Nuke Em on them in the next day or two, I think you can avoid cutting too many fan leaves. Also, if the fan in photo 4 is all you have going in there, I would add quite a bit more. Here is what my tent looks like currently.

It has worked great in my 4x2.

We've used this one for years. It's relatively quiet compared to a box fan, but you can only expect so much since moving air is noisy by nature. We have no trouble watching TV with it on, though.

I really don't want to have to use a box fan since they take up a lot of floor space which I'm lacking, and I don't like the aesthetic of them. Plus I already have this fan in my room. So have you ever tried using Merv furnace filter and taped it to it and noticed if it cleaned your room well enough?


What I really love about my current tower fan is that it uses very little wattage while pushing a lot of air and being very quiet all at the same time.

The fan I have is the Lasko Windcurve... though mine is all black with black buttons. I couldn't find a way to use zip ties (though I have a lot running around the house) because the power button is located at the top of the tower and also has a depression in the button that meant I needed something to fill the depression to push down the power button. The gorilla tape means black on black, so I can't see it from across the room. It's not a perfect solution, but will do until someone releases a <$100 homekit-enabled tower fan.

The tower fan is more powerful, quieter, and more efficient. It's worked super well for me! It takes up a good bit of space in my 2'x4'x6' tent, but I think it's worth it to have a fan, and it doesn't really take up much more floor space than the small 8" one (2x 8" fans take up more space than 1x tower fan). The idea is that I take a humidifier and blow air across it, cooling the air via evaporation cooling. I think this is a relatively proven concept as it's how misting fans and swamp coolers work. This product seems to work in a similar function to what I'm planning, although I'd be using a cheap 2W USB humidifier instead of whatever fancy atomizer they use.


Ambient air comes in, gets combined with a stream of small water particles from the humidifier, and comes out as cooler more humid air. In this case, I guess the reject is the moisture in the out coming air? Heat isn't destroyed, but it's absorbed by the water for the phase change. Input dry hot air, output cooler humid air.



Since it's more effective when ambient air is dryer, I was looking for a way to optionally dry the air before combining it with the mist. I figured I could fan air over a dessicant before combining it with the water stream. Now, this might be where I'm misunderstanding thermodynamics - as another poster said, to absorb water is a exothermic reaction. With that in mind though, I'm OK with a one time item. Do you know if there is a such thing as a one time dehumidiying item, like ammonium nitrate, but for humidity instead of temp?

Also, a fan like this is definitely the way to go because it doesn't oscillate, but rather blows a constant stream of air across something like 120 degrees in front of it.

Modern box fans kind of just mash the air around. Have you tried a more traditional table fan? How about a tower fan like these?

I think you're on the right track when it comes to using a timer. In fact, for your purposes, the old-fashioned REALLY simple mechanical timers will be your friends.

However, you're right, modern fans, especially tower fans, are a slave to fancy circuitry, and I honestly can't remember ever seeing one that doesn't have some kind of stupid electronic control rather than a simple on/off switch.

What you may need to do is void the heck out of your warranty, and just hard-wire the fan to stay on, bypassing all the controls.

Actually, honest question, are those smaller plug in fans like these common in UK/European households? I honestly don't remember seeing them when I was there. Probably the best compromise to get through hot summers a little more painlessly.
