So this is a Smith and Wesson Model 27, made in 1960 (per the serial number), .357 Magnum (also .38 special). I received it as a gift and it is my first gun ever! Super stoked to own it now, and I'll probably join the prolonged slide of gun ownership that I see in this sub time to time. My next purchase is likely a smaller concealed carry weapon.
The giant ammo tin is vintage, I'm guessing vietnam era, but no idea, I could be full of shit. It's stacked with hundreds of .357 FMJs. 1 box of .357 hollow points, and 2 boxes of Shotshell snake charmers.
I'm pleased as punch with this gun. I've just purchased a bunch of accessories on amazon, I'll post them below, maybe you can tell me if these are good products or not for range shooting. (No referral links or any of that bs)
Plano Protector 4 pistol case
MTM 38/357 Cal 100 Round Flip-Top Ammo Box
Remington T-72 Shooting Glasses
3M Peltor Combat Arms Earplugs
Hoppe's Universal Gun Cleaning Accessory Kit
If you are spending $10 (possibly plus shipping) anyway, might I recommend a pair that runs $80 that's on sale for $18? The Smith Optics Aegis Arc is on crazy sale right now on Amazon through Botach. I have gotten two pairs and I'm about to order a third. The Smith Optics are not only Z87.1 certified but they are US MIL-PRF-31013 certified for use by frontline troops. $18 gets you a clear lens, a sunglasses lens and a stupid nice case.
Lucky Gunner did a pretty thorough safety glasses test program and the Aegis Arc was able to withstand a 22short. http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/eye-protection-shooting-glasses-review/
My 2 cents. Good luck.
If you can time it right and catch the 795 on sale, you can save a decent bit of money. I hadn't seen them on sale, so I bought my fiancee a 795 and spent about $175 on it. I recently got the tech sights for both her rifle and mine. For an appleseed event, you'll want two ten round magazines. Since they are hard to find in a brick and mortar location and I was going to be paying shipping anyway, I ordered two 10 rounders in addition to the one the rifle came with.
Costs as follows:
Rifle: $175
Tech Sights $ 69
2x Mags $ 28
GI Sling $ 10
Swivels $ 12
Total $294
That total does not include shipping charges, nor does it include any further equipment costs such as:
You can go less expensive on the ear an eye protection. The first few times I took my lady shooting, we had good ear plugs and less expensive eye protection (at an outdoor range) and I saved up for a while to get the better stuff.
I feel like it was worth it to get the extra stuff and rifle so that we can attend the appleseed event together. Much of the value in it, I think, comes from all the range time you get. If One of us were to go without the other then try to teach the other, it would probably take significantly longer to teach the second person unless you later dedicated an entire weekend to shooting. I think it's better to knock it out in on weekend, rather than spread out over weeks or months. You two can develop together as shooters.
As I've been educating my fiancee and guiding her into being comfortable with guns, this is something I've given a good bit of thought to, and something I had and have been saving for for a few months. Buying shooting gear can be a large-ish initial outlay, but the headphones, eye protection, and firearms acquired are something that will serve us well for many years to come, so that is something to bear in mind as you weight the options, buy initial gear, and possibly later acquire replacement gear of higher quality.
So after about a year into this great hobby I've accumulated pieces of gear into what it is today. Not exactly everything I want yet, and for sure I'm going to be replacing around 30% of things in a few months (hopefully!). Still pretty noobish in terms of skill but I'm working on it! Onto the kit list!

Looked and compared the item numbers. That doesn't look right. The number on the black one with a fan was 740-0499, which is the black non-fan version, according to Amazon and ESS's website.
https://www.amazon.com/ESS-Eyewear-Profile-Compatible-Goggles/dp/B006M0NW4I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523402138&sr=8-2&keywords=ess%2Bgoggles&th=1
ESS crossbow suppressor. thin frames specifically for earpro. I picked up the tombstones for trap/skeet where I use ear plugs not muffs, I have the suppressors for rifle and handgun shooting where I have muffs. ESS is owned by Oakley so they're decently built.
Not the OP, but searching for "pink safety glasses" on Amazon returns a few likely-looking results that you could then mod according to your tastes: like this or this.
Remington Radians. Cheap, fairly comfortable, interchangeable lenses. Exceeds ANSI standards.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0039BJ92W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1408561249&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40
Those are awesome, but definitely out of my costuming price range right now. I bought these ones for $6 on Amazon and I'm working on modding them now.

Timex Expedition Military Field, review
And I have a pair of (Amazon link) Edge Tactical Eyewear TXHG716 Hamel Matte Black with Polarized Gradient Smoke Lens, polarized. Pretty comfortable and are "safety glasses" due to the impact resistance of the glass. Review to come later.
Once you have your prescription nailed down, you can order a safety frame with impact rated lenses. They're going to be thicker and heavier than most other glasses, but that's to be expected. There's also the cheaper option of over-the-glasses eyepro with something like this
Smith Optics Elite Aegis Arc Compact Eyeshield Field Kit, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0077RHYLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AEdIxbN52Q3Y8
They've been on sale before. Picked up two.
Here are some blue lens sunglasses
That style of sunglasses on the girl seem more like safety glasses, so here is an option? and here is another one
3m Tekk is often in the $8-$11 range (not to be confused with the $3 super uncomfortable crap one) and is rated for impact and chemsplash, as well as the similar Dewalt.
Something like these, these, or these should suffice as long as you're using a face shield too. A lot of injury reports are from debris going under safety glasses.
By using a shield or guard, "full wrap" goggles (not just glasses, like I use for using the miter/table saw), and a face shield, I think I should be pretty safe.
You can find them a bit cheaper on Amazon too.
Edit: You want to look for ANSI Z87 rated goggles, that's the OSHA specification. You could also use a face shield and something with military standard rating like these which meets MIL-PRF-31013 and ANSI Z87 specifications.
ESS Eyewear Crossbow Suppressor ONE Kit 740-0472 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004D60S86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_e4nHDbJ7QYFSK
These are actually really great bc they have thing frames so it doesn’t break the seal on your ear muffs
I use these. Cheap enough to not care if they get broken or beat up while out riding. They have a good shape to keep the wind out of my eyes and the multiple different lenses are really nice for riding in different conditions. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039BJ92W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use those muffs with these plugs: http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-MAX-1-plugs-Uncorded/dp/B0033Z1RBU/ref=sr_1_5?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1341237625&sr=1-5&keywords=howard+leight+ear+plugs
On maximum volume the muffs make hearing people through the plugs a possibility.
That along with these glasses: http://www.amazon.com/Radians-Remington-Interchangeable-Lens-Kit/dp/B0039BJ92W/ref=pd_sbs_sg_5
You're a cheapass - you only have limited eyes and ears, so you should do your best to protect them... but you can still be a cheapass and do that; I know this because I'm Mr. Safety, but my middle name is cheapass.
Buy these $9.92 Peltor Combat Arms reusable plugs with indoor/outdoor sides:
http://www.amazon.com/Peltor-97079-Combat-Arms-Earplugs/dp/B000W2CPCC/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1323708791&sr=8-15
Buy these $8.76 T-72 Remingtons (actually made by Radians), basic safety glasses:
http://www.amazon.com/Remington-Shooting-Glasses-Clear-Anti-Fog/dp/B000F7RSFI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1323708803&sr=8-3
Then keep on being a cheapass.
Alternately, you can get these Radians Adrenalines for $13.99; they have an aluminum frame and they look super bad-ass (like awesome sunglasses), the downside is that they only come with tinted lenses, so they aren't as good as clear lenses indoors (but still work). They come with an awesome hard case and a nerdy-ass neckband (which I wear because I'M COOL):
http://www.amazon.com/Radians-Adrenaline-Aluminum-Alloy-Silver/dp/B001F0KGZ8/ref=sr_1_39?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1323708938&sr=1-39
These ones from Amazon
these always seemed like a convenient way of doing it but I haven't tried it myself.
Pyramex v3g safety goggles from amazon $15 shipped
Pyramex V3G Safety Goggles, Black Strap/Temples/Clear Anti-Fog Lens https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GMBAWK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5p-Syb7ZB9NNS
I bought these [Safety Glasses](ESS Eyewear Crosshair One Kit, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009KRDZE2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Xb4HxbMYXAQXM) then I customized them by masking the clear area off and lightly sanding the rest of the glasses.
They turned out really great, comfortable to wear for hours ant a time. The sell replacement lenses like sunglasses that you could switch out. The lens swap takes about 30 seconds to do so not a huge hassle.
The arms are really thin and fit well under my headset as well.
This is a great option that beats most pairs I've tried. So go grab a $2 pair of safety glasses some masking tape and sandpaper to custom fit a pair.
I sat in the plane and marked a line even with the top of the instrument panel, then marked the sides so I couldn't see out of the plane. So the result is a custom pair that fit my eyes and the plane that I fly, C172.

Nope. Alternatives include stuff like:
Here's an older thread on the topic, with those and some other ideas.
Oh yeah I’m currently looking at some right now that are around 30 bucks goggles
I found a pair that looks like they'll go over my glasses well!
I just ended up going with the clear ones.
http://www.amazon.com/ESS-Eyewear-Crossbow-Suppressor-Black/dp/B004D60S86 these right
Yep. Here's one of the options that works well for me.
> $110 is ridiculous for the Suppressor kit
That's why you don't pay $110 for a pair of suppressors, they have them on Amazon for $40.
If you need new eye protection, check out these:
https://www.amazon.ca/ESS-Eyewear-Crossbow-Suppressor-740-0472/dp/B004D60S86
Most protective eyewear have thick frames that cut into your ears with ear pro on top. These have super thin frames and lens quality like Oakley for only $60.
I use safety or shooting glasses
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F7RSFI
a pair will last me 6+ months of daily use until the hinge fails. can get them with various tints
Those might fit better than what I have: Remington T-72 shooting glasses
Get some face stuff first recongmending the lower only because goggles maybe unsafe:

https://www.amazon.com/XCYT-Tactical-Adjustable-Shooting-Paintball/dp/B073SPVRHM/
and then think about gun stuff later. I think you should rent for at least four months before investing deep into the hobby.

(Jeez, my job doesn't pay enough to pay for most of these. I can nearly afford eye surgery with a pair of these.)
