"Art is theft."
Many would argue that modern basketball as we know it began with Elgin Baylor.
Yeah, like a soulacoaster.
They're all from two, a review of a book and a response by the author. The meat is in the book that they are talking about.
I didn't choose them to be damning but because I thought they conveyed articulately what he is like.

Second the "Sin in the Second City" it is pretty interesting. And also "For the Thrill of it." 1920s murders in Chicago.
If this is what you're interested in check out [Klang Der Familie] (http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=26331) which is specifically about the relationship between Berlin, the fall of the wall and techno. Not very academic but great primary material.
Also, [Tobias Rapp's Lost and Sound: Berlin, Techno und der Easyjetset] (http://www.amazon.de/Lost-Sound-Easyjetset-suhrkamp-taschenbuch/dp/3518460447) is about the period just after techno became the sound of Berlin and the city blew up (because of cheap flights and techno-tourism). Leopold and Loeb. The book is called For the Thrill of It.
Horace Silver's autobiography probably covers his time in Blakey's bands, though I haven't read it. Wynton talked about Blakey in this book. Actually it might have been this one, can't remember. This is the definitive biography of Wayne Shorter and of course it covers his time in the Blakey band.
After you check out these books, my advice would be to listen to the recordings they made before, during, and after their tenures in Blakey's band, and do some analysis of your own!
In the US, at least, we currently have substantial income inequality, and the target market of products such as Creed, Hermès, Patek Phillippe, and the like really don't weigh price the same as we. You might find the book A Grand Complication: The Race to Build the World's Most Legendary Watch to be an enjoyable and interesting look at the lives of the superwealth early in the last century.
In addition to dozens of songs, he also wrote an autobiography.
