Woke up to a lot of love! Thanks everyone for making me even more excited to show it to her. She’s definitely annoyed I haven’t asked yet so she might just grab the ring from the box and put it on herself at this point :P

To those curious about the wiring: I cannibalized this cheap amazon box and saved all the parts as buying them separate would have cost way more (it was $9). It came with two watch batteries wired to a resistor and a spring loaded pressure switch.

The hinges are 10mm barrel hinges that are installed using a 10mm forstner drill bit. They are really difficult to drill perfectly so practice first or buy a jig.

The carving on top is two elephants separated by a heart. That was really hard and would look way better with a cnc laser or engraver but hopefully she can tell.

Thanks again everyone for the compliments. You’re a great community!

u/Augie956 · 11 pointsr/RepTime

Hey RepTime, with my watch cases almost full, I thought it would be a good time to post full collection pics of my watches. The imgur link has full collection pics and up close shots of each watch with full title from the TD. I tried my best with the pics, many of the watches look better in person than what my lack of photo taking skills can display.

Why did I get into replicas?
About 2 years ago, I was in the market for a gen Rolex or Breitling, but then I stumbled upon this subreddit and here we are. I've been collecting for a little more than a year now. Currently at 54 watches with another Tudor on the way.

WTC:
I've only purchased from Intime and Trustytime. Overall, they are about the same, but Trusty time email response times are faster.
I usually bundle about 4-5 watches per order to save on shipping costs, been only buying from trustytime lately due to their lower shipping costs and promo code coupon. I haven't seen any difference in watch prices between the TDs.
Each order usually takes about a 3-4 weeks from order date to delivery. Haven't had any major issues with either TD, customs or watches arriving DOA.

Experience so far:
I don't have any one favorite watch, I like having variety and sometimes change watches throughout the day.
I have not serviced any watch yet, but each watch gets little and infrequent use.

Also, be great if you guys can recommend what my collection is missing!

Hallow! /u/dragon1291 posted a great image for a pinning kit but there are a few things missing. This is a comprehensive data sheet on schlage pins and keys. If you want to build your own pin kit here are my suggestions:

  • DO NOT BUY A PREASSEMBLED KIT! I don't know why, but they always cost more.

  • CLK Supplies is a great place to find what you are looking for. Using the data sheet that I gave you, you can get "Universal" pins in the correct heights. Here are the keypins in many sizes by .003" increments. Here are the Top/Master pins also in .003" increments. Here are their assortment of springs and these are their security drivers. If you don't really want to have 300 serrated pins and 600 spools, you can always go for their Security pin kit that has a little bit of everything including the bump stop pins. If you want to use the bump stop pins, just put only 1 in each lock. Anything more than that isn't necessary.

  • This is what I use for my pin kits. The price is cheap and it works well for me. They do ship from China so you have to wait several weeks to receive it. Each of the chamber walls go all the way to the top so there isn't any spill over. I would however use something like a pice of tape to make sure that you don't pull up any of the side walls by mistake.

  • I would get Sparrows aluminum followers because the resin ones don't last as long as you would like.

  • Pinning tweezers are a must! I would suggest that you pick up Sparrows 120mm tweezers. I have their 99mm tweezers and I wish I got the longer ones.

  • T -pins are fun to work with when you advance but they aren't easy to come by. You can put those on the back burner for now. Here are the only ones that I have come across. I haven't used them so I can't give you any kind of review on them.

  • You can go with can go with the Sparrows mini pinning mats, their full size mat or a pinning tray. This is a cheaper tray, and I do mean cheaper. I think it might be made from compressed foam. You can also go with the premium steel pinning tray. Just be aware that they are very small. Like smaller than your phone small.

  • Core shims are VERY useful! You can find them in different places. Like here, here, here or here. Just to name a few places.

  • Make sure that you watch various videos of people gutting their locks to try to predict how things might go wrong.

  • When you start with your hands on work, go slow and be very deliberate. If you forget (or intend) on leaving any keypins out of your locks ALWAYS remember to remove the corresponding driver and spring otherwise you will have to force the plug out and ruin a spring and possibly the plug.

Now, if you don't want to have a hefty pin case filled with 2,400+ pins I can always help you out there. I have been selling pins to other users here in smaller amounts for cost. Feel free to hit me up.

Amazon sells some cute ones! I got this 3 pack that are super cute and feels good quality. They’re a little weighted too, so it’s not easy knock over. I couldn’t help myself and also got a 4th one from the same company that’s a llama :)

u/librarylackey · 5 pointsr/weddingplanning

Mine pretty much lives on my finger, apart from when I'm washing dishes or cooking something that involves me getting my hands dirty (raw meat, dough, etc) or taking the dog for a walk. I've also been taking it off a lot recently because we're redoing our kitchen and I don't want it to get damaged from chemicals or paint or whatever.

FH got me two of these cute ring holders from Amazon- I have one in the kitchen and one in one of our bathrooms, and I make myself put my ring on one of them (usually the one in the kitchen) if I take it off. Otherwise I'd lose it for sure.

I hope it turns up soon!

u/gypsywhisperer · 4 pointsr/EngagementRings

It looks like it's a box similar to this one!

My husband used a conventional ring box in his front pocket and proposed to me after we saw The Lion King on Broadway (actually on Hennepin in Minneapolis, but whatever) and when we got there, there was a couple that was split up on either side of us, so I offered to trade seats with the man so he could be with his wife, and then my husband had me sit on the other side... I guess it was so I wasn't against the ring box! Also, the hinge set up the metal detector when we entered the theater, so the guard pulled him aside and asked if he had anything metal in his pocket and he showed the ring to the guard (I had already walked ahead because I didn't realize he got pulled aside) and the guard wished him luck.

I bought these ring holders for myself. They’re perfect because I put them around the house, and they just look like part of the decor when I’m not using them, so it doesn’t look like I have random dishes lying around. They don’t take up a lot of space either.

u/TheOblongGong · 4 pointsr/KingdomDeath

I use a plastic compartment box that they sell for jewelry with removeable inserts in it. I've recently started throwing magnets on some of the inserts just to keep all my hands and stuff locked in place, although this step is probably unnecessary if you're not going to paint everything.

Images of my setup here

Also this guide really helped me figure out how I was going to magnetize. I go 1x2 on magnets in the arms and hands instead of 1x1 because that's where I have the most grip issues, but it's a great guide if you haven't seen it.

I've traditionally kept all of them inside the boxes like you're doing, but a few months ago when i pulled out some of my first ones (3-4 years ago) I did notice some of that sticky residue. It was nothing that a damp cloth couldn't clean. Depending on the size of your collection, maybe air them out once every year or half a year?

I've also heard of ppl buying containers with a lot of boxes just to hold the smaller parts.

I store my earrings and some small/dainty necklaces in this jewelry box. The rest of my necklaces and the few bracelets I have are in a tray similar to this. I mostly have earrings, and only a few necklaces/bracelets, so the box works well for me.

A tip to the wise, I use one of these as a rolling tray. It really keeps the noise down and keeps the table/dice from getting chipped. Bonus that it stores flat with my notebook.

u/konzy27 · 2 pointsr/knifeclub

I was thinking something like this would suit my needs just fine for a while. I only have 8ish knives and budget doesn't allow for rapid growth. I might look for something similar but with a drawer underneath for my sharpening gear.

u/dangledorf · 2 pointsr/boardgames

It is a really really solid game, and if you end up loving it as much as we did, there are some very simple amazon purchases you can make to make setup take <5mins.

Power Tile holder - Cut off 1 row and the binder holes and you can store all of the power tiles in here. These fold in half and fit perfectly in the box. Setup is as simple as taking the 3 sheets out of the box and done!

Player boxes - Put each colored players pieces in these boxes (battle cards, miniatures, prayer point tracker, turn tracker, and action tokens). With the last extra box, put the Divine Intervention cards and all of the small extra silver/gold action tokens. If you can find ones that are slightly deeper you could even fit each of the 3 colored pyramids.

Victory Point holder - Holds all of the victory points in their own compartments.

I do a snap build first just as you are doing. After that I separate by how it is separated in the manual, usually head, foot, leg, etc. so that I don't have one large "pail" of parts. Even this https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Compartment-Plastic-Storage-Container/dp/B00MUI5LZO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468423184&sr=8-2&keywords=adjustable+storage+container can be useful for separating parts. When I put them on skewers, I keep the same separation process. one set of skewers per limb.

u/Wakeup_maggi · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

I'd go with Etsy but the shipping is probably too far out.

Amazon is probably your best bet now! They have some great stuff like this [coffee mug](Doctor Who - Disappearing TARDIS Coffee Mug - Add Hot Liquid and Watch The TARDIS Move From London to the Stars - Comes in a Fun Gift Box - by The Unemployed Philosophers Guild https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ESHMQ8K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wYgwybT4WQV0D) that changes when hot. Or this [jewelry box](Doctor Who Tardis Wooden Jewelry Box with Drawers, Hooks and Ring Inserts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZZ9CZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DZgwybD198VQ2)

Also Hot Topic is full of fun doctor who stuff. Their stuff is unique and they have more than just clothes. They have some really fun necklaces and drink wear.

Good luck I am sure she will appreciate anything with how much thought you are putting into it.

Mischief Managed!

There's an overarching theory behind how these will all help with a school experience. Which is, basically, that you need to have fun in between studying. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy, goes the saying.

  • So, since we're talking about wine, I thought I should point out that one of my favorite ways of enjoying wine is with a nice bath. And what better way to make that prospect quite a bit safer, than with this piece of heaven?
  • Next, we come to brooms. What else would a wizard or witch ride? You know what else is interesting about witches? According to Harry Potter, they basically enjoy a tickling sensation while pretending to be burned at the stake (I swear I remember this from the books). Since they're already having fun with it, I think they should have even more fun by turning the flames colors.
  • You know who wears a lovely hat? Well, bonnet. A pretty, floral bonnet. Captain Mal Reynolds. I could surely use this to maximize my time enjoying Captain Mal's world.
  • This one is a tough one. Because there are so many books I could want, but that's such a traditional explanation... So, since we're talking about books as a journey, I really wanted to put a choose-your-own-adventure book. But it hasn't come out yet, so I'll have to content myself with this journey provoker.
  • Moving on to trunks. Trunks are storage, right? And I've got a bunch of jewelry that's just begging for a home. This looks like the perfect place for it.
  • Finally, we come to capes. Superheros, wizards, Sherlock Holmes. All these people have a history of wearing capes. And wizards are a strange people, and we sometimes need to work to understand strange people. This book might help guide the way.

What you're looking for is called a Nightstand Caddy or Valet Tray. It's a good way to keep everything organized, in one place, and safe from the cats.

Here's a good example from Amazon that might fit your purpose. They can get as expensive and elaborate as you like, or as cheap as you want. Personally, I went to Ikea and got these so that I can close it at night and not have the cats eat my glasses.

My fiance made me wood ledges with hooks (similar to these). I use them for my longer necklaces and bracelets- everything is easy to see and no tangled jewelry. I keep earrings in an organizer box and everything else in a pretty wood jewelry box.

u/ItsSoWonderful · 1 pointr/somethingimade
  • The music kit I bought came with a hole punch and paper, so you can get started right out the box. There are ones that are around 10 dollars cheaper but use plastic gears which I heard wear down easily. If you don't mind hand cranking it, you can just toss it in a woodbox and go from there.

  • Here's the motor and speed controller that I used in my build. You just need to hook up the motor and a power source to the speed control, and then find a way to mechanically turn the crank with the motor. I just used a hex coupling to attach a piece of stiff cardboard to the end of the motor shaft which turns the crank. It might be easier to just go with a motor-run music box instead, that way you just need to clip the wires and hook up to the speedcontrol (or just use as is if you dont need to adjust speed!)

  • The wheel was made from two film reels I found in a local garage sale with some nuts and a threaded rod, and it's held up by two wire coat hangers that I bended to fit.

  • The paper with the actual song on it needs to be hole punched for each note, this is a great site where you can fully program a piece to see how it would sound before actually punching the paper. It also lets you export the piece as a pdf with x's on the exact places to punch holes so the process is a lot cleaner.

Other than that, its just woodwork to frame all the parts into one piece, where there are a ton of better resources than me on the subject. Keep in mind just settling on handcranking the box is loads of fun on its own.
Feel free to pm me if have any more questions on it and good luck if you actually decide to go for it!

That is one and works.

The one I'm using is more similar to this one:

For that number of cards, I'd actually use something like this, with cards in penny sleeves (3-4 cards can fit in a single penny sleeves, to save on cost). You may consider folding and taping the opening of the penny sleeve so cards so slip out, but I think this would be the most cost effective way to do things. Plus, you could print shipping labels to put directly on the card storage box, while also taping it closed.

While this won't protect you from heavy weather, I don't think I'd mind receiving a large bulk of cards like this.

The other option, that I just remembered CardKingdom uses, are hinged hard plastic card cases similar to these. This plus a bubble mailer is what I've gotten from them on larger orders. And I think if the majority of my cards were $1-$2 rares, but I had a lot of them, I'd like them in this.
