I have this octopus necklace. I shortened the chain to 16-17" so it sits just below my collarbone, right in the center of my chest. I get compliments on it ALL THE TIME and only occasionally disclose that I bought it from China for $3 on Amazon.

You can get post covers that keep the metal from contact with your skin so no irritation.

Please please don't do this! I know it sounds like a great cheap solution, hell I even used to do it but the clear nail polish can come off IN your ear and cause a ton of problems.

A much better solution is post earring covers for post earrings and replacing your dangle earring ear wires with silver, gold or platinum ear wires which you can pick up at stores like Michael's or Joann Fabrics.

It is a mockingbird pin. It reminds me of a when I used to have time for leisure, when instead of only excercing our bodies for survival, we would excercise our minds and read. It reminds me of a book in which faith in the ability of human beings to band together against evil was prominent. And it reminds me of the days when people used to give freely, and makes me wonder if there are still generous strangers in these hard times when so much is on the line.

47.23. I feel pretty great today. I woke up feeling like shit but i'm having a good hair day and good skin day. Sorry, i'm not usually that in to myself but i'm feeling great. It was a beautiful day. I have the same problem. For post earrings I use something like this and for hook earrings I just replace them - I prefer lever-back findings to traditional French hook ear wires anyway. All it takes is a couple of jump rings and a needlenose pliers to swap out. Once I found a type of finding that worked for me (surgical steel) I bought a load and replace the hook every time I get a new pair.

They make plastic covers for people with allergies, a simple search came up with these from Amazon. They are cheap and can be reused.

Sliver Gripper tweezers do just fine.

This is a real good start! I only have a few suggestions.

1. Add 2 or 3 more pairs of gloves. Your safety comes first and gloves break, or if left unused for extended periods they dry rot. Get vinyl, not latex as many people have allergies.
   
   1a. Hand Sanitizer, for you before you put on gloves and after you take them off. EVERY TIME!
   
   
2. Someone posted a picture of their kit with medic shears and a pen light. Those are vital in any kit! The shears help you expose a wound, and the pen light is a valuable diagnostic tool.
   
   
3. Ditch the betadine and alcohol pads, clean wounds with soap and water. So, add a small bit of scentless hand soap.
   
   
4. Ditch the burn cream, until a burn has cooled down for at least half an hour (more with bigger burns) all you are doing is basting the burn like a turkey. The cream will actually trap heat and continue to cause thermal damage. If it hurts to much to complete your "short hike" then it is not a minor burn, they need help.
   
   
5. More adhesive bandages, they are small and cuts are plentiful. (with a commensurate amount of antibiotic cream)
   
   
6. Add an OTC analgesic like Tylenol or Motrin
   
   
7. Remember that you have an endless supply of cravats in your scouts Neckerchiefs. These are invaluable for bandaging and splinting so if your troop does not hike in uniform, or you just don't wear neckerchiefs, add 1 or 2 more cravats.
   
   
8. Put the "blister kit" in the First aid kit, this way it never gets lost.

10. Segment everything into separate zip lock bags, keeps things dry, and if your patient is a mess keeps things uncontaminated.
    
    
11. Consider laminating a single sheet of your care report and a grease pencil, impervious to rain, you can wipe it off afterwards for reuse, and a grease pencil always works. Photocopy before you erase it if you need a permanent record.
    
    
12. You should always have your Part A&B (maybe even C) Med forms with you on a hike, we put all the scouts in a single zip file which we password protect (remember zip is encryption AND compression) and we put it on a thumb drive for all SM staff. This is: more tolerant of water than paper forms, takes less space, allows for multiple distribution, and the contents of the form are more secure.
    
    Because of First Aid Merit Badge I joined my local ambulance squad 27 years ago and then went to Paramedic school. Because of my professional certification I am obligated to use Oral Glucose instead of hard candy or Honey but those are well known working solutions. Just remember, they are only for conscious people who can ingest it themselves.

I guess I wil tell you a story I like to tell strangers while drinking in bars.

A few years back, (insert person-that-I-am-with's name) went camping at (imaginary lake). We had been drinking all day, and were just hanging out by the fire when we saw some splashing in the water. We went down to the banks to chek it out, and in the dead center of the lake there was a puppy struggleing to keep it's head above water, and a family on the oppisite bank flipping out. I, being drunk, decide that I am the most fit to swim the 100-or-so yards to save the doggy and the day. I hand off my beer, kick off my shoes, and begin to swim out to the pup. When I reach it, I grab on and start to swim it in. Problem? Yeah. This guy is scared, wiggleing, and squirming and I cant keep a grip on it. So what's a girl to do?(I am male) Momma dog it back to shore. So I grab the dog by the scruff of the neck in my mouth and freestyle swim back to land. What I dint realize at the time is that if my face is underwater, its face is underwater. I dredge myself out of the lake, triumphant I hold up the freshly drown puppy expecting a heros welcome. Not even a second later reality of the situation set in. It was time to take pics. While I was posing with my new friend, I noticed the family running their way around the lake to retrieve there pet. Admittedly at this point I paniced. I couldnt let them arrive to find their dog dead and us taking pictures with it - So I did the only thing I could: I threw that puppy back into the lake as hard as I possibly could.

Thats where the story ends. about 80% of th time I dont have the heart to make up more because the person hearing it are in a complete wtf state, and 20% of the time the throw pushes the bullshit line. Either way, I think it's mildly amusing wasting people's time. Just as I did yours.

Way better than I thought it would be (I did not, or will not read the books, but look forward to the next movie). Dont think of it as buying it for yourself, think of it as me giving it to you. ::all of the hugs:: I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandmothers. My family just had to go throught that with my Grandma's sister, who was just another Grandma to me. Her children and grandchildren are all drug adicts and/or teen parents so they were not taking care of her at all. All of her life she had been so frugal and taken such good care of her finances just so if something like this would happen to her, she would be cared for. However, her eldest grandson (my cousin) took her money and spent it all on meth/coke (we aren't exactly sure which) and pot, so all she had was my parents and my brother and I to take care of her with the limited resources that we had. It broke our hearts to watch he get worse and worse as she'd forget things and not know where she was. Alzheimers is the worst. I'm so sorry that your family is going through that.


You are a saint for helping to take care of your sister and her family at the same time that you're trying to take care of your grandmothers. Being "the responsible one" in one's family is really hard. :(


Right now what's stressing me out is my birth mother. I got a phone call on my birthday, of all days, letting me know that her alcoholic husband (she's an alcoholic too, I'm pretty sure that's why she married him) attacked her- though considering the physical abuse she meted out to my Dad and I, I'm sure her husband probably did not throw the first punch and is probably a while lot worse off than her right now- that she's getting a restraining order,and moving in with my (other) Grandma in the same town as me. She's an alcoholic, and abusive, and has more than one DSM-V defined mental illnesses and after 11 years of no contact,she wants a relationship with me.

The worst thing is that her mom is constantly guilt-tripping me to re-establish a relationship with her and Ican't do it. But my Grandmother is also paying for my school and I have over $10,000 due by 8/14. I'm so scared. I don't know what to do :(
