Maybe overkill but I have this by the sink so I can do just that.

For those looking to purchase just the mat from the site, Amazon sells a comparable 12" x 18" bar mat for $7.60 (as of 7/21/16, 10:30pm PST) with free Prime shipping.

It's not fashion, but maybe the issue isn't necessarily your shoes. Do you have an anti-fatigue mat with your desk? If not, I highly recommend getting one (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sky-Comfort-Fatigue-Kitchens-Standing/dp/B00M8O122G/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_229_t_0)

Ahhh you have not heard of stainless steel soap! It's magic. Takes hockey smell off my hands, pussy smell off my face, and shoe smell off my feet. It's cheap, easily washable, and you can have it tomorrow.

Fire 8 : https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01J94SWWU/

Discount also applies to the 16GB Fire 7 and 32GB Fire 8, which are $10/$30 more than their base models, respectively.

Both come with a Micro SD Slot so I don't really see a reason to get the higher capacity model unless you don't plan on using a SD Card(though on the HD 8 it's quite a bit more expensive for such a small storage gain so i wouldn't get that one at all).

I have this one. It looks a little flimsy, but it's held up to every book I've used in it, and it's significantly less bulky than the wooden ones a lot of my classmates use.

You get book stands to display such things, on a dresser or shelf or whatever. Pick a cool archipelago or some such, and watch the attention it gets. People (including yourself) will also want to flick through book all the time if you display it this way.

Something like this

Or you could make one yourself.

Don't cut them up :( You'll thank me in years to come.

u/anaellesedai · 7 pointsr/knitting

I use a wire book holder, like the sort you're supposed to use for cookbooks. I found a wire one that folds up nicely to go in my bag, band also allows it to accommodate a decent range of book sizes. Since I can't knit and read very fast at the same time, it's all right by me that I still have to put my work down to change pages.

You can clean the skillet with some steel wool and soapy water if you'd like to reuse it.

u/Drama_Dairy · 6 pointsr/SubredditDrama

My mother bought me these for Christmas one year. I still have them on the outside of my cubicle at work. Every now and then someone will brush up against the edge of my cube as they walk by, and I always loudly proclaim, "Hey! You've knocked down one of my cat butts!"

u/animatorgeek · 5 pointsr/castiron

They sell one that's more explicitly an ashtray/spoonrest, with quasi-pour-spouts that can be cigarette slots of the place for the spoon handle to rest. You can get it on Amazon

u/DeltaIndiaCharlieKil · 5 pointsr/gardening

I gave my sister cat butt magnets flast year for christmas. My niece was going through a kissing stage and would waddle up to the refrigerator and kiss the cats right on the butthole. She had no idea what she was doing, only that it made adults either horrified or laugh hysterically. Best present I have ever given.

u/bran_buckler · 5 pointsr/whatisthisthing

If you get noxious smells on your hands (say from garlic or tuna, etc), you can rub your hands on stainless steel. You can check with kitchen supplies on Amazon or in a store and they will have what looks like a stainless steel bar of soap, otherwise using a spoon or faucet will work. There's some sort of chemical reaction that happens and your hands will lose the noxious smell and pick up a metallic one. The metallic one will then wash away with soap and water.

Here's one example and here's another

Well he's talking about roasting and you're talking about braising, which are two totally different things. I braise in my dutch oven, but rarely roast. Braising is low and slow, simmering in a liquid. Roasting is typically dry heat and cooked at a higher temperature and a faster rate than braising. Braising does better with meats with a lot of connective tissues (short ribs, chuck roast, pork shoulder). Roasting is typically for leaner meats like chicken breast, sirloin, and tenderloin. If you do want to roast in your dutch oven I recommend buying a trivet that fits your DO. It will keep your roast out of the liquid that accumulates.

Search for toppers or mods for his favorite pin that he owns, if he keeps them and doesn't flip them frequently (changing every 6-12 months).

Otherwise, here are some additional ideas:

  1. Search for the original pinball fliers for his machines; I have these framed for reach of my games and love them.
  2. Buy him anti-fatigue kitchen mats to go under his games. No one thinks of this and everyone loves them. Here's the Amazon link:

I mean you got the main stuff. I fiddled around a lot with my EDC for the first two years after learning about EDC, and then.... kinda just settled into what I got.

But some ideas...

A pick kit. Gotta learn how to use it, of course, but can come in handy. And you need a kit to start learning. Also local laws apply etc. Sparrows and Southord are commonly recommended.

A fresnel lens. Hey, can come in handy. Cheap.

Key dangler. Dangle your keys from your belt into the upper quadrant of whatever pocket you keep them in. Keeps it neat, keeps it secure, and leaves more room in your pocket. Also cheap. Even better if you have a push button start vehicle and keyless entry. Along with a keypad front door of my house, I just need to have my keys on me; I don't actually have to ever remove them in the course of the day.

Watch. I personally do the smart watch thing, but G shocks, Timex Weekender, citizen eco drive are common EDC recommendations.

Bacon toothpicks. If you're a former smoker and you can't vape, these do the trick for me. https://www.amazon.com/Accoutrements-11723-Bacon-Flavored-Toothpicks/dp/B000VF5UYU

Wonder wafers

Keep one in your wallet, smell like leather all the time. Or whatever you choose.

Alternatively, a wallet. Or a hidden money belt.

Just some ideas.

You are correct, the rack is from Ikea.

These are the fridge clips used for the headphone wires. I found that the adhesive strips they provided were too weak and kept falling off though. I purchased these, which are also cheaper at Walmart, and used them instead.

Shift weight between legs, bending knees too (like when u walk) and get an ergonomic standing mat (helps keep you in place too so u don't wander off and whack something). This mat got excellent reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V3TO9EK/
Also I'd say stretch and strengthen your core, it helps.

u/ractoon · 3 pointsr/freelance

Glad it proved useful!

> You mention also exercises you do during day to stay fresh. Can you point some exercises to recover yourself?

Have experimented with a couple, but here's what I've found:

Walking

At the start of the day (if still tired after waking and drinking a full glass of water) or after lunch a walk helped me reset and regain focus. Even if I had been dealing with stressful issues, getting out of my environment, paired with mild exercise, was enough to get me over the hump for the rest of the day. Going to a natural area was the most helpful, and a duration of about 15-20 minutes I found was ideal to gain the benefits without feeling like I was falling behind on the days tasks.

Some notes on why this might be the case: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-you-think-better-after-walk-exercise/

Standing

I'd noticed a trend where my focus was drifting after lunch and thought a standing desk might help. Picked up a MultiTable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NJUQVG/) with my cheap-o Ikea desk top. Tried to enforce a schedule where I'd stand after lunch but got distracted with leg/foot tenderness. Picked up a fatigue mat (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V3TO9EK/) that helped a bit.

Standing does seem to help a bit, the shift in position does work to wake up and regain a bit of focus. But not as effective as movement exercises I've found, or especially going outside and getting fresh air.

Stopped Heavy Weight Training

A few times a week (ranged from 3-5 times per week) I'd go to the gym for weight training. I'd been doing a pretty intense program with regular heavy lifts and I was pretty unproductive on workout days. No matter what I ate, how rested I was, I would return from the gym and not be able to truly focus until after lunch. By then I was feeling rushed to get things done.

I scaled things back to workouts that took effort, but without pushing myself to my limits each time. Also cutting back weight training to 3 times per week max. Others may have better luck with lifting, I just found I couldn't maintain that level of effort and expect quality productivity for a few hours.

Running

Recently I've started running as an experiment using http://www.active.com/mobile/couch-to-5k-app

I was never a runner, but it seemed a nice portable way to get some exercise so thought I'd at least give it a shot. I've been impressed with the impacts thus far. On non-weight training days I run in the morning and the productivity boost carries through the entire day, even into subsequent days. I'm not sure if it's the running itself, or the progressive structure of C25K that makes me feel I'm achieving something each workout, or some combination of both - but since starting running I've felt alert and focused throughout the week.

I'll have to see long term how this work, but so far been on it for 6 weeks now and benefits started around week 2.

amazon sells branded tablets for 50 bucks https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amazon-Fire-7-Tablet/dp/B01GEW27DA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524522712&sr=8-1&keywords=amazon+tablet

(would very strongly recommend you spend the extra 20 for a 16gb model, or buy a micro sd card to put in it.)

u/Yangoose · 3 pointsr/sysadmin

Consider that you can get a solid 7" Android tablet for $50.

Now consider how much it costs them to fly sales reps out or host luncheons at steakhouses or buy the lists of potential customers.

Now consider the profits involved in selling a few hundred thousand dollars worth of hardware.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more of this type of thing TBH.

just search for toys on the model sites like thingiverse , maybe you could insert small bells or magnets for tactile feel like the crafting type in some prints that need infill and possibly use meshmixer to change textures of some of them . a flexible filament may handle throwing better but PLA or PETG should be ok for most stuff , a CR-10s should be able to print about anything toywise.

A second monitor.

A good backpack. Also, make note--the wheeled backpacks that were for losers in high school? They are totally worth consideration in law school. If you can roll your books instead of carrying them--so much easier on your back.

A bookstand --make sure it can support textbooks at least 4 inches thick. You will spend a ton of time reading. If you can reduce the time your neck is craned downward you will be happy.

Dress clothes. You will start wearing them all the time come 1L summer and you really can't even have too many.

I like to outline and stuff on a whiteboard so I have a couple up in my office. If that works with your study style--get some.

Supplements. They are freaking expensive but can be incredibly helpful at times. I would say ask for E&Es for the first year courses but hold off on getting flashcards until you know if you need them or not.

u/CastIronKid · 2 pointsr/castiron

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. I don't know what size your oven is, but guessing it's a DO10, you'd probably need 30 or fewer coals to get to 500 degrees. It looks like you're cooking inside a BBQ grill, which would likely focus the heat and be pretty efficient compared to a camp oven outside, so probably even less than 30 coals would work. Lodge has a handy coal/temp chart for camping Dutch ovens, so you might need to adjust for non-camping ovens, but it's a good start.
  2. As Zaggie said, coal placement is important when baking. You could do a ring a few inches away from the bottom of your oven, and you could also move about two thirds of your coals to the top of your oven on the lid. Camping Dutch ovens have flatter lids and a special lip for holding coals and ash on the lid, so it'll be a little tricky with your non-camping oven. You could also consider a riser like this for your oven.
  3. Since the bread is in direct contact with the bottom of the oven, you might consider a trivet in addition to fewer bottom coals. This would go between your bread and the oven and help the bread to heat more evenly.

...but my kitchen sink works just as well.

u/PeppermintScientist · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I use Certain Dri and it has drastically improved my situation. As you said, it prevents you from sweating; my problem was that I would sweat a lot and it would get all swampy under there and I believe it was that wetness that made it smell because it definitely smelled bad. Once I started using Certain Dri the sweat problem went away almost immediately. I still use a normal deodorant during the day though (you only apply Certain Dri at night) and between the two of them there is no more odor or sweat. Hooray!

Another two tips that may help: drink lots of water! Also, there is evidence that some metals can help remove odors from the skin. I bought (this)[https://www.amazon.com/Amco-8402-Rub-Away-Bar/dp/B000F8JUJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492008535&sr=8-1&keywords=metal+bar+soap] and use it in the shower under my arms on occasion. It is made for chefs to wash their hands with to remove onion/garlic smells but it works well for the pits too! Best of luck conquering the odor! You can do it! :)

It has little pokey things (whatever you want to call it) that will trap stray water and grounds. It's really easy to move the machines+grinder and knock everything in the mat into the garbage and throw into the dishwasher to clean. Highly recommend!

u/GillicuttyMcAnus · 2 pointsr/cafe

Welcome to the world of increasingly more and better coffee.

May I recommend something that will help you keep your (what appears to be tiny) kitchen clean? Get yourself a bar mat. It will help catch loose beans/grinds and keep them from getting scattered all over your kitchen. Also if you spill water or what ever it will all stay contained. I got mine from a place I used to work (says Barcardi and Coke on it) Make friends with a bar tender, or spend the 10 bucks now and enjoy your clean kitchen. Also makes it look like you know what you're doing. Seriously, a bar mat is the way to go.

That and a Chemex should be your next purchase.

When I think of rain I think of cuddling up with a good cup of coffee.

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

Coffee chocolate Not that weird... but pretty amazing.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)

You could get him the fire 7 tablet. Do you have board games or something you could play with your children that doesn't cost much?

Can you get cardboard boxes from some store that are big enough for your children to play in and pretend it is a car or ship or rocket or whatever?

I'm not saying be cheap, but be thrifty. Find a way to save money and keep your children happy with you. Even a card game of Go Fish or Crazy 8's would be fun. Checkers, Candy Land, The Game of Life, Monopoly, RIsk, and other games are fun as well.

If you have an Amazon tablet for them you can get the Amazon Underground store and Actually Free games for them to play on a tablet https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1003016361
An Amazon KIndle Fire tablet can be cheaper than an Apple iPad. Look at this one for $50:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GEW27DA/ref=fs_ods_tab_an

If you save up the money for it, and not use credit cards it would be a good deal. You can get Kindle children books for them to read as well.

There is a tablet for children for it costs more.

Good luck.

u/fabikw · 2 pointsr/boardgames

If you're ok with the selection in the Android/Kindle marketplace (doesn't have Agricola for example), the Kindle Fire 7'' is just $50. I've used it to play:

  • Sentinels of the Multiverse
  • Lords of Waterdeep
  • Terra Mystica
  • Splendor
  • Twilight Struggle

It's not a great tablet, but it can handle boardgame apps just fine.

I normally clip off the pin, use a metal file to file it as flush as I can, and glue a rare earth magnet to the back using E6000 glue. The glue you can get at any craft store. You should be able to get the magnets there too. Depending on how many you want to make though these ones are probably a better deal.

u/uberesque · 1 pointr/LawSchool

I don't use one only because I haven't gotten around to buying a proper one. I usually prop up my books using other text books, but I wish I had a proper one - I've developed some minor neck pain because I am the ultimate weenie and my body is like "lol, no" when it comes to studying.

It is especially useful if you are reading a book and simultaneously taking notes on it on a computer - instead of having to look down and up constantly, you can look side to side. other redditors may be able to chime in on how useful it is - you can read some comments in this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/LawSchool/comments/2dtusm/reading_tips_and_techniques/

the following two have been recommended on the law school subreddit in the past:

When I was in law school we had tons of reading to do from extremely weighty books. I got one of these foldable book stands to hold my books while I took notes or during class. It was super helpful both at home and at school. I also had a classmate who had joint problems from a car accident and found it hard to sit for long periods, she really liked standing desks. (Edited to add: At my school, the library had these plastic table things that you could put on a regular desk to raise it to standing desk height. You were allowed to check them out to bring to class or use around campus.)

One day a twenty-something girl was walking down the street when she saw some cat butts in front of her.

"That's weird..." she thought to herself, as she pulled her Burt's Bees out of her pocket and applied it to her lips. "I wonder if those cats are plotting to kill me?"

"Oh well" she decided, walking past the suspicious cats. "At least I'll have one last geocaching experience before I die"

In the end, the cats didn't kill her. But when she got home her pants were wrinkly from wandering around in the woods. Good thing she had an ironing board to smooth them out!

I hate the lingering smell of onions and garlic on my hands even when not pregnant. Here's a handy trick for getting the smell off your hands!

Immediately after chopping your onion and/or garlic, find yourself something that is stainless steel in your kitchen (I use my sink!). Rub your hands all over it, then wash your hands. Ta-da! Smell is gone! There will be a lingering smell if you let the garlic or onion start to dry on your hands.

If you are like me and couldn't afford stainless steel pans, or if your stainless steel pan is hot, or if your sink isn't stainless steel, then get you one of these!

Place a bar mat or some dri dek in the space you'd like to keep clear.

u/entropicamericana · 1 pointr/Coffee

One of the little things I bought that made things a lot more pleasant for me was a bar mat like this

It's big enough to hold my scale, grinder, and room to operate an Aeropress. Catches the coffee dust that always escapes the grinder somehow and minor spills. Once a week I dunk it in the sink, scrub it with a brush, and air dry it.

u/SingularityParadigm · 1 pointr/Coffee

I have this bar mat: https://www.amazon.com/Update-International-BSM-1218BK-Rubber-Service/dp/B000MVI4ZK

It has served me well in keeping my coffee space tidy. Electric kettle sits to one side of it, digital scale sits on the other side. Lido manual grinder and bag of beans sits on top of it. Its convenient as a catch tray for brushing out the grinder and grinds jar above after brewing. I empty and wash it every so often if there is much accumulation, but that takes awhile. Importantly though, I no longer have to deal with cleaning up stray coffee grounds every day!

u/RockyMtnAristocrat · 1 pointr/Wet_Shavers

I sit at a desk, kinda at a typist's position, so my elbows form a 90 degree angle to the top of the stone.

Under my stones, I use a bartender's mat, and find it really handy. Keeps the stone in place, and keeps spills to a minimum.

I keep a little dish of water to my right so I can dip my fingers in the bowl and spread it on the stone.

I tend to take lots of breaks, and use Japanese strokes for the bulk of the sharpening, and finish with a variety of x strokes.

Hello fellow Varidesk owner! Varidesk has an app you can download which will pop up every XX minutes on your screen telling you to sit/stand. You can adjust it as you like.

I generally stand for an hour and sit for an hour, and try to sit for at least half the time.

I also migrated from a a plain fatigue Mat to the Topo by ergodriven. It's made a huge difference for me and allows me to comfortably shift my weight whenever I feel the need.

u/last-line · 1 pointr/battlestations

Not sure how to add more photos of it... I'm new here, haha.

I'll give some quick tips though.

This is my best standup desk investment - the Topo, makes standing for hours much easier - http://amzn.to/2eCjgC9.
My desk 'top' is a table from IKEA, it's pretty small but works great for a keyboard/mouse/other misc items - http://amzn.to/2eCjY2s.
This is my shelf that holds my laptop - might only work well in a setup where you're in a corner like I am - http://amzn.to/2frgGQU.
Amazon Basics wall arm is great, but you can use whatever - http://amzn.to/2frfa0V.
I use this to keep power bricks, etc out of sight - http://amzn.to/2ed49k6.
I put this little led strip behind my monitor - it's powered by USB and I have it plugged into my monitor so it is on when my monitor is on - http://amzn.to/2fIhguL.
Mousepad, i like the Razer Sphex for this, just because it's so thin - http://amzn.to/2eCmPbs - but it isn't the best pad for gaming, etc.

You'll want to put your desk top height so that when standing on the mat in whatever you're gonna use (I just wear socks) when your arms are at your side, your elbows form a 90 degree angle to go onto your keyboard/mouse. Your monitor should be at a height where your eyes are inline with about 2/3 up your screen (1/3 of your screen is above your eyes.)

I also put the shelf so that the laptop is below my monitor in case I want to pull my monitor out from the wall - however 99.9% of the time I find that I just have my monitor pushed back as close to the wall as it goes.

When mounting the desk to the wall, you'll want to try to put the center part into a stud, and use some decently burly drywall anchors for the rest. You'll find you may inadvertently lean on the desk and things like that, so you want it to be pretty solid.

Good luck!

I have no affiliation with this product, but my feet and back highly promote it.

For context, I work from home at a Jarvis desk, so I'm standing roughly half the time I'm working and more if I'm playing tunes that day. This made a huge difference.

u/Kershek · 1 pointr/Surface

I have a Gorilla Grip mat that is very comfortable and spongy to stand on. I was sick of sitting all day and found that standing helped increase blood flow, focus, and kept me more alert. When I get tired, I sit for a while. I've known three people who have dealt with blood clots due to inactivity (which can kill you), and as I'm very sedentary myself, I'd rather avoid all that.

u/DavidBernheart · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

My powerful yet stealthy touch screen sound system for about $500: An Amazon kindle running the Pandora app sits in a kitchen cabinet. Plugged into the audio out is a headphone to RCA adapter. That's plugged into a passive volume control mounted beneath the cabinet. The output drops down to the basement, where I have a signal detecting power amplifier. That amp drives four Polk in-ceiling speakers mounted in our open concept first floor.

I've read and watched a lot of reviews for the Amazon Fire tablets. Dirt cheap for the 7 incher with small memory but its very durable and should be enough for a toddler. apperantly only 30$. I bought it in €. just select with special offer, which means the lock screen is an advertisment, wich doesn't realy bother me personaly. The 8gb version is big enough for only summoners war, because you can use 7.6 gb of it for your own stuff, 400 mb are for the system

YO /u/glitchwabble the most expensive Kindle FIRE I can find from amazon warehouse is actually THIS That is a $49.99 tablet!

u/TheCrowGrandfather · 1 pointr/kindlefire

It's basically the same with Ads. But the homescreen on the Fire devices is different so they put more ads on it.

Sounds like you probably want one of these: https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amazon-Fire-7-Tablet/dp/B01GEW27DA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543410405&sr=8-1&keywords=kindle+fire+7

Personally though, I would recommend just a regular Android tablet as you can just download the Kindle App on it, and you don't have to deal with Amazon's ads or shoddy hardware.

This isn't the answer you are looking for, but you might try listening to the Kindle version of the book using the Kindle Fire's text-to-speech capability.

Kindle version of Colombian Exchange by Alfred Crosby US $30.05
Text-to-speech is enabled in this book.

If you don't have a Kindle Fire, this is the lowest price version. $49.99

NOTE: In previous years this device has gone on sale for $29.99 during Thanksgiving Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. If you are thinking of purchasing one, be on the lookout for sales next week.

The cheap versions of Amazon Fire tablets seem like the sweet spot to me e.g. https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amazon-Fire-7-Tablet/dp/B01GEW27DA

I don't think you can realistically get anything cheaper without going for something used.

u/PengyTeK · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I'm assuming these are 7th gen? The one with the case is decent deal. The ones without not so much. Amazon is currently selling these new for $40, so for just $7 more you get no scratches and the full 1 year warranty.

u/PostYourSinks · 1 pointr/teslamotors

Maybe, but how are they going to realistically compete? You can get a tablet for less than 100 dollars these days, and you can mount it anywhere on your dash for 10 more. I don't see any auto company making a better infotainment system than an android/ipad any time soon (and it certainly wouldn't be cheaper). They just haven't put the hours and money into development. If they paid for integration with those companies, now THAT would be very interesting.

u/-TheDoctor · 1 pointr/Futurology

Amazon already does this with their Kindle Fires.

Best Buy frequently has these on sale for about $30. For a functional, if barebones, tablet, that's basically unbeatable. You're stuck with Amazon's launcher, but most of its peculiarities can be turned off and it has native access to the Play store. And if you break it or lose it? Who cares. It cost less than a tank of gas; go buy another one.

For a reader app on both the Fire and my S7, I'm currently using Prestigio, but the ads are getting spammy, so looking for a better one.

The Origin is in E--which means bigger magnets for bigger keys and will probably cost you around 50 bucks assuming you get the right sized magnets.

With a G major, minor, or any drum tuned higher, you can use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFHNHNW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For the G I use two pairs of those magnets stuck together. Same with the A and then less magnets the higher/smaller the tongues get.

I ordered some from Amazon for my hobby (I wonder if it's the same hobby?!?). They are plenty strong for what I needed. I got two different kinds:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N45JGVO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFHNHNW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Their unit of measure seems to be how many pieces of paper they can hold to a refrigerator. I don't think that's an official SI unit though.

If you don’t want to pin the flower on, try attaching it with mighty magnets and green ribbon.

u/Mrcool360 · 0 pointsr/cookingforbeginners

Well it works so I don’t know what to tell you lol. They even sell these:

I wonder if it's steel, and used to get rid of fish odor / garlic odor.
