And, generally, prices are higher for the "lower prices" merchants because they have high shipping, and you'll never know what shady as fuck carrier they plan to use (USPS Sure post hell)

Here is an example. A TV.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN22F5000-22-Inch-1080p-60Hz/dp/B00BCGRX9M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395257197&sr=8-2&keywords=tv

PRIME: Price: $408.97

When looking into other merchants, there is a lower price with free shipping. $399.00 from Beach Camera.

Do I think the amazon Prime offered sale is artificially inflated in price? Fuck no. I assume it's just not as discounted as the offer from Beach Camera. BC might be willing to lose just a tiny bit more room on the sale, and I am pretty damn sure shipping will suck ass, certainly not a 2-day guarantee.

Edit: Also for fucks sake, AMAZON TELLS YOU "Hey, you could get this slightly cheaper by checking out these other vendors" They have the transparency to fucking let you know when someone is competitively beating their prime bottom line. You just take the risk of really bad shipping speeds. What more do people want.

The Xbox One subreddit isn't very helpful here due to the moderation team deleting these threads. You'll have more luck of at /r/4kTV/ since your thread is going to get deleted. With a 4K TV, you want low input lag which on 4K tvs is hard to find. The current champion was released on 5/1/2018 which is the TCL 6 Series 4K TV. It boasts 12-14ms input where other brands are in the high 40+ms range. The TCL 6 series TV is nearly impossible to get right now, so expect 2-4 weeks shipping. You can get the 65" for $999, the 55" is $650.

These TVs are a hit or miss brand. Some people run into issues with vertical lines or dead pixels on arrival. If you run into this, keep the TV and use it until they can get you a replacement then send the old one in the other box back OR pick yours up from Best Buy and return it to store there.

When I ordered mine, Best Buy delayed my shipping 3 times but gave me $100 gift card. On the 3rd delay I canceled my order and ordered from Amazon. I paid $30 for next day air but the package arrived 3 days late. Amazon rep was super unhelpful and gave me a ton of attitude. A manager got involved and gave me $200 off the TV and refunded my $30 shipping.

FWIW, the new Roku TVs are absolute beasts at direct play, have tested three of them, doesn't seem to be anything that slows them down. I suspect they are also a good bit cheaper than ATVs when you factor in display and box cost.

The $289.98 bundle in the US with 1 TB of storage, Forza 6, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, and ReCore would be a great bundle for people looking to get their first Xbox with fun console exclusives right now. Heck, I almost jumped on it to give my old 500 GB console to a friend so we can play online together. But ultimately I went with this TV:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MYGISTO/ref=ya_st_dp_summary?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which will ship well before the Xbox One X arrives so that's fine. Then I'll preorder the X at GameStop (at some point this century please), give my fat OG to my friend when it releases with the 7th, and all will be right with the world.

I highly recommend TCL P series. Awesome tv for gaming. Should be around $600-650. Has ratings that match $1000+ TVs. I’ve had this tv for almost a year now and it’s been awesome. Make sure it is the P series (there will be a P in the model number).

u/LittleB6 · 7 pointsr/PS4

Absolutely. Get 4K. But I would also do HDR. It makes as big of a difference as 4K.

For the money, for a gaming TV, you can’t beat the TCL P Series.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y6FSV5Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522968082&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=tcl+p+series&dpPl=1&dpID=51jMb13MKML&ref=plSrch

u/fearandloath8 · 7 pointsr/PS4Pro

Hey. I could write a lot about this thing but it's really simple. I bought the P series 55' TV from Amazon almost a month ago with a PS4 Pro at $650 (150 off from $800). The deal is still going on on Amazon.

So here's what's up. This TV is bloody fucking brilliant. So let me break it down a bit--

PSPRO Features: I've used a 50 inch Vizio with my PS4 for two years and I've played on other friend's very nice set-ups. I've been blown away with this. I pulled up Battlefield 1 after the recent HDR update and I was absorbed into the game after taking a break for a few months because it felt like an entirely different game--like PC level graphics and speed. Uncharted 4 is gorgeous. Games like Rainbow Six Siege have proven to me that the input lag is non-existent. Since the PSPRO can use my 5 gHz wi-fi channel as opposed to the 2.4gHz that the PS4 uses, download times are avg. 35 MB per second and upload 8-12 MB per second. It's a mix of the PRO, TV, and Internet, but my ping sits around 60 and I'm winning 1v1 firefights in Siege (not feeling cheated when it felt like I puled the trigger quickly enough). Seeing what HDR does for BF1 and Uncharted, I couldn't possibly go back to non-HDR knowing that future games are going to be using it. Boost Mode looks great as well. I pulled up Doom and holy shit that game's colors just POP. On my old 50' Vizio, I would have trouble making out players hidden in the dark or laying down with dead bodies in Rainbow 6 Siege, but this TV has really changed that. Battlefield 1 has such a clear picture of soldiers so far away that I would never have been able to make out before.

Smart Features: I was wary of "smart TVs" but this thing has sold me. I signed up for Sling TV and a bunch of other free apps, including my Netflix, Prime, and Hulu. If I hit the search button on the remote and speak any show or movie into the remote, it will find it for me for free or for some small price on some sort of service. I love that feature, so I've cut my cable and now just pay 40ish dollars for Sling, Netflix, HBO, Hulu, PrimeVideo--along with a lot of other really cool apps like the History Vault or The Great Courses Plus for a host of great lectures. Also, I no longer use my PS4 for movies etc. anymore because you can just control the volume and everything through the smart remote as well as use the voice search function to find anything across every app and service out there (even if you haven't downloaded them yet).

Visual: I can't believe this thing costs 650 (although it is 800, the deal is still going on Amazon as of the time I write this). It looks just as good as anything in the 1000 dollar range. I haven't had to change much of the factory settings, everything they say in the reviews are true. All I can really say is that there is nothing negative to say about the picture at all. Colors are true, beautiful, deep blacks, no pixelation, bright, you name it.

Sound: I can't speak much for the sound. I've got mine hooked up to a 5.1 surround system that works perfectly. The TV is able to pick up on the signal from the game or the movie and will signal my receiver to change to Dolby Digital or EXT. STEREO etc. So I don't ever have to pick up the audio remote, the TV just reads the signal and changes it for me accordingly (or how I set it to change). Same goes with HDR signal etc. The TV will pick up on the signal and change accordingly.

Hardware: I thought the remote was a joke, being a roku remote. But, as I mentioned earlier, it rules. It has a Netflix/Hulu/SlingTV button if I want to swing to one of those quickly. Has an aux input if you want to put on headphones. I can speak into it and it will find nearly any show or movie. If I lose the remote, you push a button on the TV and the remote will beep until you find it. It has 3 HDMI ports which is plenty, thanks to ARC. I use one for my PS4 PRO, one for my computer, and the ARC one to connect to my ARC HDMI in my audio receiver which makes things SO much easier.

Other stuff/Future Proofing: The TV is amazing. I can't recommend it enough for the price. You've also got antenna on there if you want basic channels for sports or news etc. For gaming, this is completely future proof. Who knows how many years, but it has all of its bases covered.

Greatest TV I've ever owned. Amazon has it on sale for 650 right now. I've got a true theatrical experience in my man cave now. Along with my PSPro, I feel like I have a whole new experience with Destiny 2, BF1, Uncharted, Doom now. If you've got a Pro, you should get this TV. And you should get the P series 55 inch.

Anyways, if you have any questions, just ask.

TCL is the number 3 tv maker worldwide( just started in the usa in 2015-2016), Number 1 in china for years, the make their own components in the tv so they dont have to source parts, thats why they are so much cheaper( AND THINNER) than everyone else on the market but have SUPER HIGH END features like dolby vision and roku tv guide. And for gaming the P607 and p605 are one of the best on the market test at 15ms with game mode off and 6.5ms with game mode on... its a no brainier, 4k HDR, Doly vision( which is better than hdr) 55 inch at 650$, sold...

Ya i just recently bought one, amazon has them on 2-3 month back order, but buy it now and itll be here before xbox 1 x is out.. If u look in store make sure u look for the P series only, its the performance line and has the lowest input lag..

It is not bad but does not have local dimming for HDR.

But if the larger size is more important than HDR to you, that's fine too.

43 inch 4K tv has Roku built in. I have a 32 inch 1080p one by the same brand and I love it.

u/Lynch47 · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Looking to buy a 43" 4K TV for my bedroom soon and want one that doubles as an occasional monitor when I want to step away from 1080 and see the visuals pop. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been looking at this TCL tv for a little bit but am unsure that 1) it'll be good for gaming, and 2) if 43" is too small for 4K? Any recommendations are appreciated but I'm definitely looking for the value/budget TVs rather than the top of the line stuff.

u/misterlee · 4 pointsr/nfl

Stood up that new TV last night. Holy shit the video is really good considering the price.

But god damn, I need to hook up my amp and speakers to this thing. The onboard speakers are terrible as hell. Guess that's the tradeoff for having a super slim 4k cabinet.

u/AwesomeBrainPowers · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

This is one of those times where it's worth it to spend a little extra, to be honest; at that size, you're unlikely to find anything of lasting quality for that price.

For example, this 50" Samsung 7-series is $350, which I would absolutely buy instead of this 50" TCL model. (Many friends/co-workers/family-members have owned TCLs, and while a very few have been lucky, most of them have either had lackluster quality or died after maybe two years.)

u/Logical_Lefty · 3 pointsr/PSVR

Not OP, but I went from a "base model" PS4 on 720p to a PS4 Pro and a 4k TV and its seriously amazing. Sometimes I just switch it between 1080p and 4k resolution settings to look at it and you can definitely tell the difference. Make sure your TV supports HDR too because a lot of the graphic improvements deal with lighting. I've been playing Division 2 with the neutral light setting on and its incredible how good/accurate lights glow in dark and shine when bright.

Here's the one I have, its super cheap, but it gets the job done: https://smile.amazon.com/TCL-50S425-inch-Smart-Roku/dp/B07JK98NNQ

Hey audio nerds:

Been looking into getting a used speaker set local, saw this deal and I almost feared it was too good to be true: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/371612990366058/

So is it too good to be true?

Edit: for reference, this is the TV I want to hook it up to: TCL 50S425 50 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JK98NNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Z4gwDbHWK0AHF

Which I guess, sidenote, will it hook up to this TV? Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to this.

u/Fimconte · 3 pointsr/Monitors

A good monitor at that size and price is going to cost too much.
For $200-$300, a decent TV is a much more realistic option.

For 32" this LG or this Samsung are both ~$250.
For 40", you're looking at the low 300 (that same LG model)+.

u/YoDollaBills · 3 pointsr/hometheater

My roommate and I bought this Samsung TV last year for our dorm room (yes, we had two TV's) and it was great. I paid $232.00 for it. Check out Amazon's used TV's under their Warehouse Deals, as they are usually just repackaged and have nothing wrong with it. No matter what TV you get I would highly recommend keeping the box and packaging it comes with as it will make transporting it a breeze.

u/ibuildrockets · 3 pointsr/snes

I'm not sure why you're going to put away your NES? You just need to get yourself a nice TV with more inputs. I can't recommend THIS tv more highly. The clarity is amazing. I have it up on a couple of milk crates so I have enough room underneath for my NES, Dreamcast, SNES and, in pride of place, my Atari 2600!

u/RenegadeMinds · 3 pointsr/canada

Hey, I'm on board with that.

Also to do my job properly, I need to maintain good mental health and hygiene, which consists of several expensive hobbies, generous amounts of beer, the odd movie or so - on a large screen TV (still trying to get this one), dinner out every now and then, the odd vacation, a bigger house, a better and roomier vehicle, etc. etc.

Companies get to count equipment maintenance as an expense, so why shouldn't people get to do the same?

No - I'm not being facetious.

The fact is that business entities get incredible advantages that regular people don't.

If Bell gets to count maintenance fees as expenses, why can't regular people count aspirin and apples as a maintenance expense?

The truth is that there are no good reasons. The government massively favours the well-being of businesses over people. (And it doesn't matter who is in power.)

I pulled the trigger on the 65" KS8000 over the weekend (bought it at Best Buy) and am very happy with it so far. My credit card offers 90 day price protection, so if I find a lower price within that timeframe (however unlikely) I can go through them and get the lower price.

Can someone explain to me the allure of these ultrawide monitors when a Samsung 40" 4k UN40KU6300 is cheaper, has a higher resolution, similar input lag, and similar dpi?

I mean, if you want, you could make your resolution a 3840x1440p band across the display for games while still having a massive desktop.

If you're buying a 4k tv to use as a monitor the key is 60 Hz and 4:4:4 chroma and a dual link dvi input or display port 1.2. I would recommend something like the ku6300. I was able to grab one for $300 from frysonline on sale. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN40KU6300-40-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01DUTL4OI

This is a pretty affordable TV, and it comes with everything you need to get the most out of your Xbox One S, PS4 pro, or whatever high resolution/HDR gaming system your using.
It has the correct HDR support, it's a smart TV, has 120 refresh, it's Samsung which is a top brand, and it's 4K resolution.

You can get a 4k hdr TV for around $560 from Amazon warehouse deals Sony XBR43X800D 43-Inch 4K Ultra HD TV (2016 Model) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FWIEO2E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Wo2hyb2JQCPQX

First off, don't get the MU8000, it's much worse than even the KS8000.

The 55" X900E is so much better.

The 2016 P-series can also be had for around that price. I'd get the Sony if the room is dim to brightly lit, and I'd get the Vizio is the room is dark to normally lit.

We need more information! What is your budget and what screen size are you going for? VGA input is also going to be a real problem as those are mostly phased out.

I'm going to assume we're going in on the cheap here. I've heard good things about the following tv. Low input lag and good motion blurring.

https://www.amazon.com/TCL-43S405-43-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01MYGISTO?th

43", 49", 55" all seem to be about the same spec wise from what I understand. The problem is that they are hdmi only. I'd solve this by getting an OSSC. It will take your component and vga inputs and output them as HDMI. It also seems to have full compatibility with the OSSC doubling modes including SNES, 5x modes, and even 480p x2.

>S405 | Lx3: Y | SNES: Y | Lx4/5: Y/Y | DoctorPain99 Also 480p x2 and 480i passthrough

I don't personally own this tv. If I was looking for a low budget option this is what I would do in your shoes though. The size is up to you. I'd go for as big as you can.

Edit: It may seem painful to pay almost as much as the TV for the OSSC but this really will be an awesome setup. It will even open up RGB scart to you. You could end up spending the extra money chasing the inputs you want but if I was you I'd remove it from the equation with the OSSC. Once you experience the joy of upscaled retro gaming you won't want to ever go back.

The OSSC paired with a compatible TV is pretty much plug and play. No need for complicated profiles or settings research like the Framemeister.

Yamaha RX-V583 was $500 bucks

Fluance Signature Hi-Fi Towers $700

Fluance Signature Hi-Fi surrounds $250

Fluance Signature Hi-Fi center $150

BIC America 475w sub $160 when I bought it.

I originally had a Vizio 55" 1080p TV back in the day that I used with this that was around a thousand. I upgraded to a Sony 65" 4k, that I have since moved to a different room, and am currently using a Sony X900E 65".

Before I went with the higher end Fluance stuff, I went with their $250 surround in a box, and it was still light years ahead of going to the theaters. It was also drastically cheaper. I helped set up a buddy, and for the sound without the TV, he went with the $250 speakers, same sub for $200, and an entry level Yamaha 5.1 that was on sale for $300 and absolutely loves it. $750 for something that will blow away those little HTIB away.

u/savage321 · 3 pointsr/blackfriday

Rtings.com is a good review site to compare specific models.
IMO, you should get a TCL Roku TV if you are on a budget. If good HDR is important to you get the P series. The P series offers one of the best smart tv interfaces out right now, 3 HDMI ports, deep black levels (not OLED good) but good for the price. If you just want a good 4k set, and don't care about high quality HDR, get the S series. They are both good values at amazon right now with out a black friday deal. I'm not sure but I doubt they will be discounted much more. OLED is top of the line in terms of picture quality. Currently OLED is only made by LG and Sony. I prefer the LG mainly for its smart tv interface but both are remarkable. Perfect black levels are among the many positive qualities of OLED. Both the 2017 OLEDs I mentioned support 4k Dolby Vision and HDR 10 (so does the TCL P series.) Just be aware of burn in with OLEDs. Might want to get a warranty for your expensive TV. Good luck!

so getting this TV https://www.amazon.com/TCL-55P607-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B06Y6FSV5Q would be a waste of time because it has Dolby Vision?

Honestly the LG tvs are pretty bad. They use IPS panels, which means the blacks aren't as black as they should be. Take a look at the ratings for LG tvs on www.rtings.com

if it's in your budget getting a 55" or so 4k tv would be a better option and would allow you to enjoy things you don't get on the monitor like 4k/HDR, etc.

There is a new tv coming out this month that's making quite a bit of noise recently from AVS forums and other tech sites because of its price and what it offers:
http://www.avsforum.com/tcl-55-p-series-model-55p607-4k-hdr-roku-tv-with-dolby-vision-first-look/

Amazon link (#1 best seller after these recent articles):

$599 for 4k/HDR/Dolby Vision, best value for the money by a large margin.

That'd work better for movies/tv then using the S27D390H would.

Also keep in mind, 4k tv's are meant to be closer then traditional tv's. The Recommend viewing distances can be found here:

Save up a few hundred more dollars and go with the TCL 55” 6 series. True HDR10 and an insane amount of bang for your buck. I have a 55” and a 65” 6 series and couldn’t be happier with my purchases.

You do, however, run a bit of a risk with TCL panels as they are infamous for having some pretty noticeable imperfections if you’re unlucky. My 55” is perfect, but there is some banding on my 65” that is fairly apparent when the screen gets bright, but still isn’t that noticeable when watching content.

I have the asus monitor u posted but without the speakers. Any monitor ive ever had with speakers the speakers sucked. The monitor is great tho, I use it all the time on my pc to play games on and Im sure it will be great for the xbox.

I say if your gonna buy a monitor, buy a monitor without speakers and use the extra money to either get a decent headset or speakers. But, in my opinion when your playing on consoles my preference is playing on a tv. I sometimes play 2player games and you cant really do that on a monitor. Plus sometimes you wanna kick back on a bed or sit a few feet away from the screen and a monitor doesnt really let you do that.

If you don't want to lose the ~15% in DC to AC conversion, you can stick with a 12v powered LED TV such as Jensen 19".

At one time, I wanted and had a 42" LED in my 24' RV and I have since traded it out for 22" LED TVs. The 42" was just way too over-powering for the viewing distance of 3'. I now much prefer have 2-3 small tv's running a chromecast on each. They are so tiny and use hardly any power. I have a Samsung 22" and it works beautifully.. the picture looks better than my mac pro with retina display. I also have the 19" version of this tv and it's just not as good.. The 22" is the sweet spot for me.

when looking for a TV for an average viewer, which I'd say is 90% of people (not a videophile). I recommend A) buy a brand you've heard of, Samsung, Vizio, LG, Panasonic, Sony, etc. don't get a Sanyo, Dynex or some other off brand.

B) Get the largest TV you can get in your budget. For most people, they will enjoy a 50" TV more than a slightly better looking 40" TV.

Here are some TV's that should work, all are under $700: The vizio has the most HDMi inputs out of these 3, but you can always buy an HDMI switch box if you have a ton of devices.

A 34" ultra-wide monitor would be awesome for both gaming and productivity, but they run ~$1000-ish. With a wide monitor, you wouldn't have to worry about bezels getting in the way, and you can have 2-3 programs open at the same time, side by side, for productivity. You can even use a $600-ish 40" 4k TV, but you will be capped at 60 Hz refresh rate, unlike the ROG Swift and Acer Predator x34 at 100Hz.

looking to buy a new TV. I'm settled on 55 in LED 4k. I want to spend $500 - $1000. It needs to last me a long time as I don't plan on upgrading for a while. Last one I bought was a 42 in plasma about 5-6 years ago and its still fine never had any issues.

Is black friday probably the best time to buy? Cyber monday? I'm hoping to find the best deal on amazon since i have some points on there i was saving. I originally was looking at this:TCL 55S405 55-Inch because of the price and reviews. but after looking at some other sites I was leaning more towards one of these through Amazon Warehouse:

I mean the first TV is complete shit and the second TV is the most shit TV LG sells thats 4k and HDR.

It seems you want the biggest screen for least amount of money and dont really care about spec.

The Sony x900e is the set to buy if you arent going for oled.

65" is $1500

Why?

Best lighting system (full array) after oled technology, very good peak brightness for HDR (1billion colors v 18million, to see top end of these colors you need lots of brightness, and control over zones, the full array part, edge like you are looking at dont go as bright nor break screen down into controllable zones)

If you're not comfortable building a system and nobody nearby to assist, you might want to go with a prebuilt system.

Example only, not sure I'd recommend this particular one.

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Quad-Core-i7-7700HQ-Bluetooth-Refurbished/dp/B0798TCJCN/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519421615&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=gtx+1070+computer&psc=1

You're looking for a reasonably modern CPU, 16GB RAM, solid state storage for iracing to live on, and a 1070 at least. This should be able to manage 60fps on triples in all except a few grandstand areas.

If you know someone nearby who can help you troubleshoot any system building issues, might save a few hundred that way. Like I mentioned, graphics cards are hard to get for MSRP right now, so this might be a bit of a struggle.

On the other hand, maybe you should consider getting a cheap ~50" 4k tv and just sitting as close to it as possible, as in almost touching it? I found this more immersive than triple 24" monitors, but you definitely don't have the ability to see cars beside you as easily. The field of view is smaller than triples, but its still much larger than a typical monitor.

I use one of these currently
https://www.amazon.com/TCL-49S405-49-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01MYGISTO

There are a few out there, but most "dumb" TVs nowadays are from third-tier manufacturers (RCA, Sceptre, etc) or various sketchy fourth-tier no-name manufacturers like Bolva, etc, and won't have desirable features like HDR or good warranties/customer service backing them. I'd generally recommend avoiding them, but they ARE out there if you're dead set on a TV without smart features:

Examples: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sceptre-40-Class-4K-2160P-LED-TV-U405CV-U/54947077

https://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-40-Class-4K-2160P-LED-TV-RTU4002/55686417

As others have said, consider a TV from a more reputable manufacturer (these are basically always smart, nowadays). If you're looking at 4k gaming, TCL/Hisense make budget sets that would be a big step up (and come with HDR to boot). The TCL S-series TVs are a good example (and have low input lag too):

https://www.amazon.com/TCL-49S405-49-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01MYGISTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500866187&sr=8-1&keywords=49S405

TCL 43S405 as reviewed by RTings seems to be the best bang for your buck TV as a monitor. It's normally priced around $320, but you'll see it drop sub $300 on sale. At that size you'll definitely want the 4k over 1080p and your 1070 should be sufficient. You're missing the 100-120hz refresh but if your only really browsing the web (per your other comment) you don't need that.

ok i think im gonna go with this TCL that /u/ZeroCorpse linked just the 49 inch version i think because 55 seems massive (but the best deal).

then eventually get a tv that supports HDMI 2.1.

The TCL S405 series has 4K HDR and REALLY low input lag (13-15 ms) at around $350 if that fits your budget. I literally just went to Best Buy earlier today to look at it in person and the picture was amazing.

I think for $100 more you can get the P series (which unfortunately they didn't have on display) which has local dimming (just from reading reviews apparently this makes the picture look better?) But idk if it's worth the extra money for me personally.

I don't know what your budget is but I figured I'd let you know about this TV.

I haven’t seen it drop lower than $1299, no, but if you’re willing to give amazon warehouse deals a chance they’ve got the 65” X900E for $1275, I personally bought my 900E from them and it arrived brand new, the box had just been removed. Plus their customer support is the best.

I would 100% buy a 65” 900E over a 55” 900F.

u/fl3x0 · 2 pointsr/4kTV

WTF?! That's ridiculous - explains the $500 discount, I guess.

If you are cool with refrubs, Amazon has a refurbed PQ65 for $1499... or a new 65" X900E for the same price.

Make a short story shorter, I got a Xbox One X. I've been looking at a few TVs and the one that has stood out the most to me for the price is "TCL 55P607 55-Inch 4k Dolby Vision HDR Roku Smart" A link to the post will be at the bottom for Amazon($679) and Bestbuy($599). So to the questions: Right now this TV is $599 at Bestbuy, is this the best 4k HDR tv for the price? What is the difference between "Dolby Vision HDR" and "HDR 10"? Does the Xbox One X support DolbyV HDR and or would it just work like it's HDR 10? I feel like i'm missing something, is there anything else I should know?

There are always tradeoffs for the cheaper vs the more expensive. It really depends on a lot of the bells and whistles and what they mean to you. HDR for instance, most likely isn't available on the $350 Westinghouse, even though it's a 4K tv. So it won't be taking full advantage of the possibilities of the Pro. It'll still give a much improved picture compared to the PS4 OG, but not the best you can get.

HDR itself is said to be even more impressive and a leap forward than 4K was to 2K, so if that's important to you, you'd need to splurge.

I'm in the same boat, looking at my first 4K and a Pro and I landed on this one. It doesn't release until June (from what TCL said), but I'm not in a hurry, and it's right at where I was hoping to spend $$ wise.

But for already released tvs, check out rtings. They have the best reviews I've come across and give reviews to individual categories like movies, games, etc. You'll see what you'd be sacrificing for price.

They're lightweight (seriously they don't weigh much at all) so hanging them on wall is easy, they're cheap, the user interface is simple and responsive, Roku is built into it so there's no additional hardware to purchase or setup.

Is the 200$ price difference worth it for the 6 series over the 5 series? What is the difference between the R615 and R617? I'm looking to be "Wowed" by the improvement in HDR content over my current Sony TV which will be migrating to the bedroom.

From what I've been reading from others, TCL quality control is much improved during the second half of the year and I already have Amazon prime so unless anyone knows of a cheaper price elsewhere (Black Friday or Cyber Monday) I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the TV linked above.

Also, I plan on wall mounting this TV and would appreciate recommendations on an inexpensive mount that will work with this TV.

lmao def would check it out if I had the ability, sounds pretty decent.

Also I have a few more questions if you don't mind..

So I was also thinking about a certified refurbished 4k TV from Amazon, just not sure about that.

And then I found two 4k TCLs that are both 2018 models but I'm not sure the difference, can you tell what the difference is?

TCL 43S425 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Roku LED TV (2018) ($250)

TCL 43S517 43-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2018 Model) ($300)

Probably because one is Smart Roku and the other is Roku Smart lol /s

I also forgot to ask for TCLs is the Contrast Control Zone (CCZ) worth it? The TV would be in a bright room with lots of windows and glare.

Have this TCL for a couple years now, absolutely no regrets. Sure it's not the same as a super upscale TV, but honestly I have never regretted my purchase at all. Pair it with a decent soundbar (this is what I have currently) and it's a great experience!

1080p upscaling has improved quite a bit from the early days. You're hard-pressed to find a 4K TV that doesn't do it well.

1080p displays, at least as far as TVs go, aren't a very great market to stay in. Less and less are being developed, especially good ones, and 4K televisions can be found for a great price.

If you'd like a couple recommendations:

TCL S425 43" - $249 (RTings review) (50" is $50 more, 55" is $100 more)

Its input lag is respectable. Not the fanciest TV, but it would fit your needs well while not mutilating your wallet.

---
Vizio P-Series 55" - $699 (RTings review)

When compared to the aforementioned TCL, the input lag isn't better, but you do get a lot more features packed into this TV than you would the TCL.

A TCL 43" is only $230 right now on Amazon. That's a damn good deal and the pixel density is a little higher than a 27" 1440p. Low input lag for a TV too.

Quick release stands should be fine if you need them. As long as the lighthouses are stable anything works.

I bought the FastCap mounts... and didn't use them. They are overly obtrusive and you are much better served, imo, by installing small corner shelves or just mounting the lighthouse's included stands to the wall. It's really not worth putting up those stands. They are neat but imo not the best way to go.

For my VR room I used the following to provide unobtrusive access to the VR Pc (note the PC is in the closet and the door can be closed when in use):

Keyobard mount (I then used a Logitech keyboard and trackball with magnets to secure them when the mount is closed): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018D5ALDY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

TV wall mount and a 4k TV (40 inch). One note here... I don't recommend this for a larger 4k tv like what I have here as you are too close to the display when using the keyboard. It's great for people to see whats going on while observing but it's harder to work with when accessing the PC out of VR. Use a smaller display.

TV and mount:

TV Mount:
ttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WYVBR0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll post pictures of the room sometime. I like what the OP did with the gym mats. Good look and protection but if you do your chaperone properly it's probably not necessary (but certainly doesn't hurt).

Lastly I have all of the equipment running on Smartthings controlled switches so I can power on the "room" (PC, display, lighthouses, etc etc) on demand. I normally turn off the PC normally and have BIOS set to power on the PC when power is restored (ie the Smartthings switch is turned on). So I can tell my Amazon Echo to "Alexa, turn on the VR Room" and everything powers on and is ready for use when I get there.

From experience, you're not going to want a massive TV in a dorm. You might think you have a lot of room but once you get all your stuff moved in, you'll be shocked at how little space you have. Especially if you have to share the room with another person like I did. I don't know if you do or not. That being said, I currently have this TV: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN32EH5000-32-Inch-1080p-Black/dp/B0071O4ETQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407569960&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+32+inch+1080p. I bought it probably 8 months ago and it's really nice. For gaming, it looks great and LED is a lot more reliable than LCD or Plasma. Even though Plasma supposedly offers the best picture for games. It's not the smart version, but I don't need it since I use my TV as a monitor. TV brands are important though, you definitely want Sony, Samsung, or LG. Don't settle for any others. My roommate has a 42" Sony and it's really awesome! My other roommate has a 50" Phillips and it's decent.

u/I_Cant_Math · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I recently did a ton of research on tv's cause we plan to upgrade in the near future. At the moment, the most reliable brands are LG, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony. Out of those, I found a few used tv's that match your requirements.

Samsung 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV $259 w/ free shipping

LG Electronics 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED $257.50 w/ free shipping

And if you can scrape together a little more money, you could consider this:
Samsung 32-Inch 1080p 60 Hz Smart LED HDTV $294 w/free shipping

I know those are all over $250, but they do have free shipping, and they are all very good tv's. Anyway, I hope you find something awesome! That makes me really want a good tv ;)

I'd love something nice for my son.

If you go with this one, here's a little sidenote from the reviews.

"Picture out the box = AWFUL... After calbration = AMAZING

When I first took it out of the box and powered it on I was shocked at the picture. It looked awful UNTIL I read the other reviews about it being properly calibrated. So after tinkering around for what seemed hours I managed to get these setting based on Football and regular TV viewing:

Mode: Movie

Backlight: 18

Contrast: 80

Brightness: 40

Sharpness: 20

Color: 80

Tint: G/R 58/44

Under advanced setting;

Dynamic Contrast: Medium

Picture tone: Cool
Film Mode: Off

$1000 - The best ones for that price on the market currently is either a 50 or a 55 inch Samsung 6350 series. They cost $947 or $1040 respectively. They have great specs, even better reviews and are gorgeous in person. If you set it up correctly, its picture quality is pretty ridiculous for this price range, it makes me wonder why people ever buy way more expensive TVs.

Another option would be the just released two weeks ago 50 inch Vizio P series. It is the best cheap 4K tv on the market now. That being said, the Samsung above is better in every measurable way except for resolution. Since, there wont be much 4K content for a few more years and 4K is worthless unless you plan to sit really close to it (<5ft for a 50 inch). I would go with the Samsung and wait till my next TV to go 4K (or fingers crossed OLED).

If you want bigger, I would go with the 60 inch LG 5900 series for $929. Again not as nice as the Samsung, but a really good TV for the price. One problem though is the stand is weird and you'd need to either mount it or own something wide to put it on.

Under $300 - This is actually a booming market these days, there are a lot of good options depending on what your needs are. The best two sets available are the 32 inch LG 5600 series for $279 and the 32 inch Samsung 5000 series for $297. The one caveat is that neither of these are smart TVs, if you need smart features I would go with the $298 Vizio M322. Or you could go with the LG and buy a Chromecast or Roku.

Personally I recently bought the $348 Samsung 5500 series for my bedroom and its the nicest small TV I've ever had. It works great as a second monitor (although any of these should).

u/PowerCream · 1 pointr/gaming

A big factor for me was input lag (key in FPS/fighting games). You can sort monitors/tvs by input lag here (lower is better)

http://www.displaylag.com/

I have this and it works great. Not too expensive and pretty good as far as input lag.

hopefully this doesnt get washed away in the thousand other comments

i am looking for a monitor/tv to buy. i think i want to get a 32" LED backlit. there arent many monitors that size, so i was looking at this tv. also for reference this is my prospective build. it isnt final yet though, but is getting there

so my question is will the tv be able to display the framerates that my gpu is producing? the tv is 60Hz, so 60 frames per second. ive seen some benchmarks of my gpu and in some games the framerates will exceed 60 fps. so am i right in the fact that my tv would then become a bottleneck of my gpu? should i only be looking at 120Hz tv's in order to avoid this bottleneck?

u/baudtack · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was given an old gaming pc and it works great for me. However, there isn't really room in my living room, where it needs to be, for another monitor.

I have an old CRT tv however and was thinking about replacing it with something I can hook this gaming rig up to.

I know that input lag is a problem but displaylag.com gives the Samsung UN40EH5300 a pretty good rating for input lag, 26ms.

I was also looking at maybe the (Samsung UN32EH5000)[http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0071O4ETQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1213OFN7UDEK&coliid=IDI7TM2N3FN6V&psc=1] but can find no input lag rating for it.

Is this a completely crazy idea? I also need to use an adapter to plug the pc (dvi) into the tv (hdmi)

Edit: To clarify this computer has two GeForce 9800 GTX+ cards.

Found this model of Samsung used in your price range. Has very good reviews. (:

If not this one, I would go check out your local Walmart. They often run specials on TV's that have been used as displays. My brother-in-law got one incredibly cheap, and it was a name brand like you are looking for!

And I really like surprises. (:

Where do you plan on using it, exactly? Samsung makes a nice 32 inch 1080p LED for under $400. It doesn't look great out of the box, but after some fiddling around with the settings it's beautiful. Here it is, by the way.

Realistically, I've been saving up for this ice cream maker so I can use it during the summer. It's a great cold treat to bring to parties on a hot day and everyone loved it when I brought ice cream or sorbet over.

Unrealistically, I've told myself that I've been saving up for this tv, which has been hiding on a private wishlist category for a while. The sound on my tv has been konking out and it would be really great if I could pull the funds together to get a new one, but its not very likely for the time being

Please, prove your point by showing me a single smart phone with anything longer than a 3 year warranty. Or find anything longer than a 2 year warranty that doesn't force you to pay additional fee to get that warranty).

EDIT: Hell, a Samsung LCD television only has a 1 year warranty. Are you suggesting that we shouldn't complain when our LCD television suddenly breaks in 2 years?

u/clearhit · 1 pointr/buildapc

No problem for the wall of text :) I would like to look into a decent headset however I tend to go threw headsets pretty fast so I usually just get about a $60 headset, currently have a turtle beach headset for the mic and a Sennheiser for when I'm not talking to people.

As for the monitors the plan was to get something along the lines of this and eventually get a second one as well. Thanks for all the help though!

>Go ahead and try and find a 22 1080p tv, not a monitor, a tv.

Not to be a jerk but searching there were a bunch of 22 inch 1080p tvs. Here is a decently rated one from samsung. I completely agree that at that size you can't tell the different unless you are standing inches away.

u/a1blank · 1 pointr/ouya

Depending on what size you're looking for, both of these are sub-$200, 1080p, and have hdmi inputs. I have one quite similar to the samsung I linked.

Samsung ($186)

Vizio ($178)

Of the two, I'd go with the samsung.

u/Xeonneo · 1 pointr/MLPLounge

Just a 22" for my bedroom. I only have an old SD CRT that's doing that thing where lines form on the top of it and whenever anything goes over the top of the screen it looks like it's folded over...

It's this one.

u/CyberJeeves · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Getting a 4k option would certainly be quite expensive, and they tend to be larger-sized TVs than what you need. Something like the Samsung UN22F5000 is a pretty good choice for a TV/monitor that won't break the bank at $167.

I dont need smart features, I'll probably just use a chromecast.

u/deeveeance · 1 pointr/hometheater

For gaming, refresh rates mean how smoothly the game is presented, and how many times the screen/Xbox "refresh" the scenes per second. The higher the number, the smoother the image. Each one, monitor and source, affects one another, so if your TV is 60Hz and say you have a glorious PC dishing out 120 FPS (frames per second) on a game, you're stuck at 60 FPS, and vice versa.

Since you're playing on console (Xbox), you won't really be taking advantage of anything over 30 FPS (frames per second) on 1080p. That still is NOT saying a 120/240 Hz TV isn't a solid investment! Sports, action movies and fast scenes will all look better if you set up the TV properly.

If budget is your main concern, try hopping around your local Best Buy/Electronics stores and usually enough (bought all my friend's TV's this way) there is a "Display Model," "Refurbished" or "Open Box" TV available that is significantly reduced in price.

A few years back I got my parent's 52" 1080p (can't remember the model) brand new, just a missing manual, for about 30% off only because it was returned at the near end of the return period, and it wasn't being sold at the store anymore (BB).

Although I can't really recommend anything (on mobile), I would take a look at stores, and stick close to brand names like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and the like... Anything else is pretty much asking for trouble. You pay a bit more, BUT usually have a better warranty/support service.

Hope this helps. Also, for the budget you have, anything higher than 120Hz (Native) is going to be a bit more.

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was hoping to learn about.

My current Samsung has the Clear Motion option (or maybe it's Auto Motion Plus), but I always turn it off. It makes everything look like a soap opera. Besides that the TV has been great. I just want something a little bigger.

Picture quality is important, but I can live without 4k. We watch all our shows and I play my one game through Xbox. I will be investing into the new Scorpion in the future, which I believe will be 4k capable. Like I said, that's not a huge deal to me and if I can get a great deal on a 50-55" that does not support 4k, I'm okay with that. Smart TV also isn't a selling factor. It all depends on the price difference between the capability of 4k.

The guy who posted the Target ad shows this TV that will be on sale: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN50KU6300-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01E69VEE6#productDetails . I searched for it on rting.com and the picture quality is rated as fair. It apparently suffers from constant judder. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 24/50/60p video, but I tried to find it on the TV that I posted and I can't seem to find it. I'm going to assume maybe you mean frames and that current model does not achieve 20/50/60p video without suffering from constant judder.

I'm going to go do some more research. I don't want to come off as someone asking you to do the research for me, but you seem to know what you're talking about and I have to ask if you were in my shoes - looking for a TV in the 50-55" sized range that produces great quality judder free, 4k not hugely important (depends on price difference), and without smart options, what would you recommend?

Yep! That's one of the three I'm looking at.
The other two I found are the Samsung KU6300
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E69VEE6
It has a phenomenal pricetag, and is a great all around contender with low latency and fantastic image qaulity, but it's color gamut is poor enough to make it questionable whether it really counts as an HDR tv. I've seen some rumors that a hotfix is coming that will fix the color gamut, but I think that's a load of crap.

and the Sony X800D
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWIEO6A
Fantastic color gamut solid all around performance and a good but not great pricetag, BUT it only comes in 43 and 49 inch, and 49 is my minimum size.

It just feels weird to me to go out looking for a new TV and only find 3 real options with two of them coming from the same manufacturer.

I figured this out from when I was researching TVs. A true 120Hz tv can give true 24fps because 120/24=5. A 60Hz tv will have to do some 3:2 pulldown magic because 60/24=2.5. That's where you get your judder. That's why you're seeing some semi conflicting and/or confusion about being able to transmit/receive/play 24fps.

Now you have to be careful because some TVs will be advertised as 120Hz Motionsense or 120Hz Truemotion, etc. That's a 60Hz tv with software magic to give an effective 120Hz from what I understand. And actual refresh rates aren't always easy to find for all TVs.

Side note Edit: I ended up with this one and absolutely love it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E69WHP6?tag=rtings-tv-bs10b-20&ie=UTF8

I'd seriously consider 4k even if you don't have any 4k media.

Edit 2: Prime example of what I was talking about with the refresh rate. Look at the refresh rate spec. "120CMR (Effective)". 60Hz tv with "Clear Motion Rate" to give a 120Hz effective rate. The true 120Hz tvs we're too pricey for me. I experience no judder when playing 24fps media. I have the motion rate stuff turned either off or way down depending on what I'm watching. It gives sitcoms a "soap opera" look.

Here's the TV I was referring to:

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR43X800D-Class-Ultra-Black/dp/B01FWIEO2E/

One of the primary benefits from HDR is a wider color gamut. The kicker is that there are many sets that support receiving an HDR10 signal, but some of the less expensive sets have panels that only support 8 bits of color versus the full 10 bits of color that HDR10 supports. An 8 bit panel will be able to display ~16.7 million colors while a 10 bit panel can display over 1 billion colors <put pinky to corner of mouth>.

I am in the same boat. I am going to get a PS4 Pro and a 40ish inch 4k HDR TV for my gameroom. I currently have a 32" 720p TV in there. I plan on sitting like 4-5 feet away from it, so it should be noticeable. I dont need anything super fancy/expensive, but I do want the HDR to be noticeable which is an issue with cheaper sets.

This is the one I think I have settled on:

Have you/anyone reading this found a better gaming oriented 4k/HDR 40"-45" TV for the price? I plan on pulling the trigger in November or December and want to make sure I do my due diligence on it.

Again, when modifying your display driver you aren't making changes to the TV set in any way, shape, or form.
You're slightly modifying the software on your computer so that your computer will attempt to send a signal that the set supports, but doesn't advertise.

I'm not even sure this modification is necessary with the 900e. The responses in this thread seem to indicate it does support 1080p 120hz natively when attached to a PC:

The best bang for your buck when it comes to 4k HD tv's is the TCL Roku TV, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tcl-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-roku-tv/5878703.p?skuId=5878703
which is a shockingly cheap $370. You can see a review for it at https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/s-series-4k-2017-s405. There's a 49" variant too on amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYGISTO/ref=twister_B071J9GQP8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 for $330.

You can get a similar tv with better picture quality for $600 https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/p-series-2017-p607

If you want to go better than that, then it's got to be the LG OLED tv's (that tim is always raving about) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073K3LPGF?tag=rtings-tv-bs10b-20&ie=UTF8 but the cost is $1600. I don't really think it's worth it to buy tv's between the picture quality of the $600 TCL p607 and the LG OLED's because the TCL P607 is such a great deal, and that it isn't until you get to OLED that you can see a noticable "jump" in picture quality.

This may not be as relevant but I figured I'd chime in. Last year I was just shy of pulling the trigger on a 65 inch 850D, which was (I believe) around $1800 pre black-friday. On BF it dropped to $1300 for a $500 savings. I figured maybe I should wait until right before the superbowl because TV's go on crazy sales then too and if it went down to the $1300 price again, I'd buy it.

So around January 20th 2017 I check prices again and it was actually only dropped to $1500 for a $200 savings. I was pissed. But in retrospect I'm glad I waited. Now, I'm keeping my eyes on the XBR65X900E, which is way better in comparison especially since the new systems will support 4k gaming.

Anyhow, the current price of the XBR65X900E (on BestBuy) is $1800 (dropped from $2500) for a $700 savings (According to the site). But since you saw it at $2k 2 months ago, and they are shaving $300 off now, I'd wager a guess that it will drop to $1500 for black friday for a $500 savings from the price you saw it at....

This may help you: Check out the price chart on camel camel camel

I know it only gives you AMAZON prices; however, its a good indication of where the TV started out at ($2500) and price drop intervals. It looks like every 3 months now the TV will drop in price so Black Friday should be your best bet.

In the same boat as you OP. Amazon has a 40" one from TCL, a brand I'm unfamiliar with, for $270 that I'm thinking about purchasing. If you have a PS4 Pro and want to do 4k there is this 43" one for $350.

Anyone have opinions on TCL?

edit: After glancing around for like two minutes on this sub it seems like TCL certainly won't be as high quality as some of the more expense brand names, but they still produce a pretty solid product for the price.

You can get a Ryzen 5 1600 that includes a CPU cooler and a board for a good price. Choose the X370 Pro motherboard from asus if thats whats offered as a bundle from microcenter. Has overclocking headroom if you want, but not necessary.

Get yourself an R7 260x or above in my opinion as a GPU, I would tell you to get something better but GPU prices are so high right now.

Since you have the X370 Pro board now from asus, get yourself an M.2 SSD (About 120gb or more) and put windows and AutoCad on it. Then get yourself a decent 50 dollar range 1tb hard drive for long term storage.

Corsair has nice professional looking cases if you don't want the flash but don't want an ugly stock PC garbage box provided by friendly neighborhood HP and Dell pre builds.

Mouse and keyboard combo you can get real cheap on Amazon or Microcenter. That is of course unless you're looking for something like MLG grade with Cherry MX switches. I personally use an included keyboard from a pre built dell with my custom build pc to save money. Its a little loud on the key switches but its free and it does the job.

Pick up for yourself a diablotek 500 watt PSU from Microcenter, they are really cheap and surprisingly good for such a low price. They hold overclocked processors quite nicely. They aren't the best looking things out there but since you aren't getting a flashy case with windows or anything it won't matter

Since you will be shopping at microcenter for most of it I can pretty much guarantee you this build won't go close to 1800 dollars. So now you can spend all that money you saved on a sweet monitor and GPU for gaming on the side when your boss isn't looking. Remember to get extended warranties from Microcenter as they cover EVERYTHING except for theft and are the best thing ever.

Didn't do price checks or part builds for you but since I build all the time I can tell you from experience that these components won't break the bank.

As a little gift for you if your interested. You can get this TV and it has a decent screen with 4k HDR support at 120hz refresh rate. It not a monitor per say but it does a decent job at it with amazing specs. I know some casual gamers that use it for gaming:

i can try to give you some tips because i too came with almost the same question, and after reading various threads on reddit and other AV forums. i decided to get a 49 because thats the minimum size where HDR really kicks in. Also there arent any really good 43 tvs out there.

but i can try to name you some good 43 tvs, i have been on a journey while researching for a tv to buy.

decent 43 tvs:

TCL P607 & TCL S405 are a really good option and r/4k loves it, so does everybody who knows about this stuff. they are only availble in the stats, and the european TCL's arent as good as the Americans. I have read that tvs arent that bright for some people but you get alot for the money. very low input.

Samsung MU6300

Edge lit, bright and low input. It has higher rating on rtings then Nu7 series and sony X720e. tbf i really liked the Nu7000 in the stores.

I think you should read about some good tvs in 43 size and then go to your closest store and see them for yourself. like i said before, i seriously think you should upgrade to 49 and get a Sony Xe900/x900e or Xf900/x900f.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N29XPO3?tag=rtings-tv-bs10b-20&ie=UTF8

If it has to be a 43, then i would have gone for the TCL. only reason i didnt buy it was is that im not from the states. In my opinion you cant get a better tv for that size or money then a TCL. in a dark room, brightness shouldnt be a problem. Also search for TCL s405 owner thread on AV forums for experiences from the people who actually own the TV. i have told you from what i have read and it seem to be a very popular choice. good luck.

Edit: after a quick google search, it seems like TCL p607 comes in 43. defiantly go for p607 over S405

Yes it really is. If you're looking for a very reasonably priced TV that supports 4k and HDR, get one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N29XPO3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have one and I also have a much more expensive 4k, HDR TV. I can't say that the TCL looks exactly as good as the more expensive TV, but it does look pretty darn good.

This was just on sale for $320. Its still more affordable than the one you linked by a decent amount. I bought it when it was the deal of the day for cyber monday.

From what i can see the difference is the 360 degree design option which means the back of your tv is more attractive. It also includes color drive "pro". I don't know how significant of an upgrade that option is.

u/TadTheTechMan · 1 pointr/xboxone

That's going to vary game to game. That has nothing to do with the TV. The game has to be developed to support 4K HDR @ 60 FPS. But a lot of games will run 4K HDR 30 FPS.

Anyway, here's a 40 inch 4K HDR TV for around $500 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XGVQYQZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1497308430&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=4k+hdr+tv&dpPl=1&dpID=41lw1rOzQHL&ref=plSrch

TCL 4k TVs. Rtings.com and forums hold them in high regard for their price point.

TCL S405 55inch $399

better quality but currently $649, could drop down on black friday.

Seriously read professional reviews, it's the best 4k/HDR TV you can get under 1k, and Roku is the best smart tv software out there. All the other ones, Sony, Samsung, are becoming increasing riddled with ADs and spying BS.

As far as I’m aware, no true HDR exists on monitors atm. Only truly exists on 4k TVs (I could be wrong)

You could look at the TCL P670:

It's a little out of that budget right now, but it's worth it. You might want to wait until black Friday, too

u/nathos · 1 pointr/PleX

The Wirecutter's new top-pick for best TV has a built-in Roku, which might be a good option. Certainly a step up from most "smart" TVs.

u/octovert · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Yeah, and additionally it isn't necessarily ideal for gaming for some of the aforementioned reasons. Looks like 55" is what you're after. I'd do this one

You'll come in wayyyyy under budget, with enough left over to upgrade whatever pc you have now, or, to even buy two of them. Just make sure you switch the display mode to "game" as that disables all the janky post-processing most tv's do, which can also cause input lag.

u/Moggles1987 · 1 pointr/PS4

I just purchased this TCL tv and it's fantastic.

Check out all the different reviews around the internet about it. Their new models just dropped so this particular set has seen a big drop in price. The Roku format is great too.

But man oh man. That sweet 4K HDR is great.
Do you have a pro?

u/LithePanther · 1 pointr/xboxone

Sorry to hijack OP's post, but reading this thread really proves that I have no clue what TV I should be looking to buy.

I was recommended this TV from another post:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y6FSV5Q/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Apparently this TV is Dolby Vision HDR which is not HDR10 so does that mean I shouldn't purchase this one and start looking elsewhere?

I was really satisfied with the price but if I'm going to spend 650 on the wrong TV I might as well spend more to get one with the right HDR.

u/xbox_dealios · 1 pointr/xboxone

If you go budget go with this TCL

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y6FSV5Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505625124&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=tcl+55p607&dpPl=1&dpID=51jMb13MKML&ref=plSrch

Has actual HDR and actual 4K the S series mentioned by other redditor uses tech that fakes 4K and HDR not true 4K or HDR. (55" 4K HDR 10)

The TCL P607 (Amazon.com) and I believe it's called TCL P605 at Best Buy are both same TV best buy version is lacking a remote with a headphone jack other wise same 4K/HDR panel. It's rated very highly by AVS Forums (Trustworthy Display Info) so does Rtings.com, and other sites as well. Best buy version is $599.99 and Amazon version is $649.99 if you want headphone jack on TV remote go Amazon but seeing as your using an X Box you already have a headphone jack on controller for night time head phone use.

Another good budget Display Panel is the Vizio M60-D1 (60" 4K HDR 10) I got this unit for $699.99 from Costco. If you go with a Vizio go with a 2016 M60-D1 or larger panel size. Any 60" and above Vizio Panels are 120Hz refresh rate (Manufacturers use wording to make refresh rates sound inflated for instance Vizio states 240 for 120Hz panels and 120 for 60Hz panels)

120Hz will help your games looks smoother and the prize between a 2016 Vizio M series 55" vs 60" isn't a lot so well worth it in case of using for an Xbox.

Lastly the Oled Panel the previous redditor mentioned is without a doubt the best panel available in USA currently for gaming use. Looks like that's not an option for you currently so the two others I listed are great budget TVs between $600-700. I can also recommend some panels for the $400-600 range or the $200-400 range if you need a different price point. True 4K and HDR with a good refresh rate aren't going to be easy to find below $500-700

u/cheezenub · 1 pointr/Roku

I was going to get TCL's new series 6 55" but after reading and seeing pics of people's new TVs, I decided to pass. Too many of them reported severe vertical banding on the screen.

I thought it was relegated to just the 55" model. I considered the 65" model, but realized that was just too large for my tastes. This TV seems to be the top of the line for ROKU based TVs. In the end I just could not take the chance. I am disabled and shipping such equipment back and forth is not too practical for me.

I went with a Sony. May not be the most current. Definently not the most expensive. But it fit my size, and the reviews were far better. I did have to get used to the new interface as it run Android TV. I've come to appreciate it.

I still have my trusty Roku 3 in the bedroom chugging away without any issues.

u/Ftpini · 1 pointr/xboxone

Nearly everything you said is wrong. TCL offers the R617 for $650.

It exceeds 1000 nits.

There are great options for affordable 4K with HDR that provides more than just a sticker on the box.

u/ClumpOfCheese · 1 pointr/VIZIO_Official

Yeah, I didn’t buy a warranty for it either. I bought one for my dynex which was a waste because it was perfect. But the Vizio was a total joke and their customer service was even worse. I remember them priding themselves on being an American company, but they definitely don’t meet the traditional American made standards. Never again will I buy Vizio and I have done my best to talk others out of wasting their money.

I was looking at this other American brand, TCL, but I’m pretty sure it’s the exact same thing as Vizio.

I think by the end of 2017 we will have several budget TV's on the market that offer legit HDR and low latency for $600 - $700. I know there's a new TCL Roku Tv about to come out with wide color, FALD, HDR10 / Dolby Vision, and 10ms input lag, for around $650. That's gonna be a game changer.

I bought this Hisense TV in July 2016. In December 2016 it got a firmware update that enable HDR. Keep in mind this is the cheapest entry level TV with true HDR. It looks pretty good for entry level. Of course it won't compete with the higher end models due to the quality of the 4k screen but if you want to experience HDR for cheapest possible then get this.

Btw the true firmware verison should be V00.01.00a.G1027.

That has the HDR update. Anything less that G1027 does not support HDR over HDMI 2.0
