Holy shit, if there's a more appropriate occasion for boat shoes, I don't know what it is.

Merrell stopped calling them Lifestyle last year and their site doesn't list them anymore. I'll be very disappointed when I can't get new ones.

ADDED: I also have trail gloves and road gloves.

Not sure if you're willing to consider a third option, but after killing countless boat shoes I can say that docksides hold up the best by miles and also, to my eye, look just as good or better.

Mine are in Dark Brown (Didn't want the rough). I've kept mine for 5 years so far and they're great.

I got these a few months back, I didn’t realize they were “no tie” because the picture shows real lacing. But they’re “no tie”.

Where are you seeing them for $120-160? You can get CDBs on Amazon for just over $90, and regular retail price on Top-siders is only $90. They're also less than $70 on Amazon.

I use a combination of Google shopping and retailmenot.com when I'm looking for low prices and coupon codes. When the planets align, you can find something on sale and a discount/free shipping code for the site.

u/ImFeelingDown · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Just a heads up, Amazon has the same pair here for less money and they have a pretty good return policy.

u/_UrethraFranklin____ · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Should I buy these bass loafers? Could they serve a similar, albeit dressier, role as my current sperrys?

u/craymond123 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

These Nylite Canvas shoes

As well these Sebago loafers

And I am looking for some olive chinos to cop.

u/ilovemyjokes · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Bass makes some pretty good penny loafers at their price point. Sebago too.

u/Monk3y19 · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

yea i'm going to have to agree with skmt on this. these look like a bad hybrid of loafers and boat shoes. you're better off picking up a pair of sebago's/sperry's boat shoes on sale or some penny loafers.

Looking for advice on:

  • Shoes: I would like the max range to be $100, I don't go out too much since I work at home but I would like a shoes that's everyday use. For example I love these Merrels and these Clarks, they're lasting me for 4 years now but the Merrels are losing their color and would like to get a new pair. Any recomendation BIFL?

I also go the gym 5 days a week to do lifting workouts (PPLx2), and looking to change my cheap shoes, I tend to walk a long distance from my house to the gym, any recomendation here as well?
u/V33G33 · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Sebago Docksides are also a common suggestion in that price range.

u/Jeremiah_Guy · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm 95% sure those are just sperrys.

u/Chaoss780 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The one you described is either the Sahara or Amaretto I think.

I personally own a pair of Saharas, and they are definitely the most versatile colorway Sperry releases. They go with literally any color short, and look great both new and broken in and dirty.

Earlier today I also figured I would get another pair since I bought my current ones a year ago and would like to mix it up perhaps a bit more this summer. I ended up going down to either Burnished Brown Tan, Tan, or Navy. The one thing I liked about these was the white sole - I thought it gave a really cool accent.

My problem with the navy is that it seems they use a different leather. If you look at the picture closely it looks must more textured than the others.

The tan to me looked too much like the Sahara just with a white sole.

So I settled on the Dark burnished brown one. The price just dropped recently which helped me settle on it as well.

All in all, the sperrys I see the most are Saharas. The second most I see are burnished brown and tan. I do see a lot of Oatmeals too, so any of these I would consider "in" right now.

u/Filnamos · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'd up the shoegame.

Got Sebago Crest Docksides on serious discount here; they have a couple of more colorful options.

A little late to this but how do you guys feel about either of these loafers. I am trying to branch out from camp mocs and thought that this is the likely next step.

Fine. Preppy. I would recommend Sebago or Sperrys instead though. If you're looking for that exact color I would suggest tan Sebagos.

u/kbeano · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Sebago Docksides are a good Sperry alternative, and in my experience, will last longer than Sperrys. Depending on your shoe size/the color you want, you can get a pair for around $60-$65.

u/JerkstoreMD · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I have these in Brown Elk:
http://www.amazon.com/Sebago-Mens-Docksides-Boat-Suede/dp/B001QLCFUU/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1395776158&sr=1-1&

I love them. They're just a hair lighter in color than the dark brown/white sole Sperrys you posted earlier (which I also own).

Again, it will all come down to your own personal preference, but I think that shoe/color is very versatile (although to be honest how "versatile" does someone really need a boat shoe to be? You'll likely either wear them with shorts casually, or wear them with jeans/chinos casually.)

u/crains_a_casual · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I have a gift card to a store and the only thing I really was interested in there were these. Thoughts?

u/malefashionadvice_SS · 1 pointr/SubredditSimulator

Do they sell smaller numbers (I think I might get flack for this, but you don't really want to get into social media-heavy advertising, and do you think of this? http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0033VBJA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00.

u/imnotabus · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

What do you think of this? http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0033VBJA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

It's a bit more.. rubbery than I would like but seems decent.

u/spudsmac · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Is it worthwhile to resole a ~$100 pair of leather shoes? I have almost worn holes though the soles of these shoes, but the leather is still in good shape. I just don't want to spend $100 for new ones.

u/jerruh · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

The Brown ones are 59 on Amazon as well

I've heard mixed things about the seller shoezen though.

Not sure if you consider Sperry 'well made' but sometimes they're not too expensive on Amazon, I got a pair for £41 on there a few weeks ago. Keep a look out as the price changes regularly.

Here and here.

Merrell Jungle Mocs They fit perfect, offer tons of comfy support, and last forever.

u/RoadHustler · 1 pointr/billiards

Most of the time I practice with shoes on. I wear the same shoes every time I play. I usually buy two pair per year at the merrel outlet. They are thin and comfort able. But I'm kinda a maniac about my practice the thing that matters to me is my height at the table. I want to see the table from the same height every time I approach the shot. http://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Mens-Jungle-Glove-Minimal/dp/B00D7CGVT2

u/defyg · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

How's the fit on Sperry Topsiders, true-to-size or do you guys recommend sizing up/down? Most Amazon users report they're TTS. How much does this leather stretch, enough to size down half a size? Thanks.

u/alankhg · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I got Horween Sebagos for $50 or so earlier this summer. Looks like some combo is still that price:

I get mine from Allen Edmonds, I think their anniversary sale coming up around April, it might get knocked down $175 to $125. Otherwise I think Sebago is a good alternative as well.

You can get these for a bit under $200. They have solid construction and are made of the much sought after cxl.

u/not_Brendan · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

He means classics as in something like these. Ronnie Fieg is a authority in the sneaker collab world. You can get wide new balances directly from the web site. Additionally, if you're willing to pay a premium, you can make a pair of nike flyknit lunar 2s and buy them in a wide width with free returns. I would say look for shoes with a 2e width, which is the next width size up, instead of d width.

Quick edit: you can also get sperry's in a wide width, which should fit you. chippewa boots are also available in wide sizes.

u/gyewt · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Don't wear anything that causes you to worry about coming off as pretentious. That said, I wore wingtips and oxfords to high school at least twice a week.

If you have a preppier style, try adding penny loafers to your collection. Bass makes the canonical loafer in your price range. I have had good luck with Cole Haan for more colorful shoes like loafers and saddle shoes, but post-Nike aquisition their quality has gone downhill. If you can find any of their shoes without Air in the name, they should be fine quality-wise for the price, but be wary of the newer models.

White or tan bucks also make a good spring/summer shoe. Get them nice and dirty and they only look slightly pretentious at high school. Bass again has nice options in your price range.

u/CAK6 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Cordovan penny loafers (damn, I sound like a broken record). I bet you can find some Bass Logans for <$75.

They won't work with black pants, but will work very well with anything else.

u/Sartorial_Equity · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

As u/freechef mentioned, bluchers would make sense. Personally, a versatile pair of penny loafers like these or [these] (https://www.amazon.com/Bass-Logan-Panel-Loafer-Burgundy/dp/B00AAK5D2K/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1465529784&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=bass+weejuns) would make sense, in a brown or burgundy. They'll go with shorts and dressier trousers, as long as you wear socks with them (i.e. none of that no-socks loafers look please).

However, I reckon you could get away with stuffing a pair of Supergas in your bag. I own a pair and I'm surprised how light and flexible they are. Good luck with the grad school search!
