Get a piece of plywood, rest that against the back of the car. Make sure it won't slip around. Then put a bathroom scale up against the plywood and push the car using only the scale. See how much force you're pushing with.

Regardless of the outcome, you're still moving the full ~4000 lbs of the car, but you only have to apply enough force to overcome friction to get the car to move.

As a similar experiment, you could put a bunch of weight on a skateboard, tie a rope to the front truck, and pull on it with one of those luggage scale things like this. You'll find the force to move it is a lot less than the weight on the skateboard.

Don't even have to remove the kegs from the fridge/freezer. I just disconnect, lift, and do a little math (~8.34 lbs/gallon of beer/water and tare weight of the keg 8-9 lbs).

Portable Luggage scale This has saved my life many times when I've gone travelling. They're usually a few pounds off, but it's good to at least ball park how much your luggage weighs.

I bought that one because it seemed to have better reviews and it came with a tape measure built in so I can measure the distance from the socket to the handle easily.

I’ve checked my 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2” ones from Harbor Freight and two of three clicked within 1 pound of the correct weight, the third was a touch over that so they were pretty good right out of the box. I definitely found that I needed to exercise the spring first before they gave accurate results, but that’s probably just because it was be first time using them.

I completely agree. It is really nice knowing the bolts are put in properly, especially when you can check the tool yourself. I use mine for electrical applications, for circuit breakers and so forth, and it just really removes any doubt about the installation and looks more professional when someone looks and sees that you torqued the connections.

You can set up your China phone for international roaming. An alternative would be to get a simple China phone for voice calls and then a phone with Google Fi set up on it for your data needs. There's no extra charge for being overseas (data + text - with all the communications apps, you shouldn't have to call anyone anyways)

Yeah. Its always going to be more expensive shipping stuff from the US but that's the price you pay for living in a first world country. When you're getting ready to move back to the states, its better that you take the stuff that you care about with you. The boxes that China Post uses are cheap and I've had them fall apart shipping between cities within China and also fall apart shipping things back to the states. And the fact that the post office people put together the boxes for you means that you can't just encase the entire box in tape.

If I were you and I had a lot of stuff to bring, I'd just bring a third suitcase. That's 30-40 lbs of additional stuff that you can bring along, which will be a lot cheaper than shipping.

Sounds like you really want to know without going and picking up the free weights (which is definitely your easiest option).

That being said, if you REALLY want to know, go down to your favorite shopping mall, park your car, walk in, head on over to the your equivalent luggage store, ask the person working there for a hanging scale to measure your luggage with, buy it, take it to your gym, hook it up to your cable machine and do your exercise.

This is something I always ALWAYS need during my trips ESPECIALLY if I'm flying. Digital Scale if you already have one you are WAY ahead of the game. I always end up packing souvenirs and it being super heavy so when I get to the airport I have to throw things away.

Don't fly Spirit. They are a horrible airline. You can try filing a bbb complaint but thousands have already. I imagine their fb/twitter/yelp pages are also full of bad reviews.

I've probably packed at least a couple bottles of booze in a suitcase a dozen, maybe 15 times now over the last 4-5 years. I've never had a bottle break despite flying to/from Poland and India, Australia, the US, South Africa, the Philippines, and a bunch of places in Europe. Multiple layovers per trip, the whole nine yards.

First, see if you can't possibly take your booze in your cabin luggage. You often can IF you purchase it in the airport and it's packed in one of those security bags with the receipt. So keep that in mind.

Second, if you want to visit a bottle shop/liquor store//whatever in-country and buy something, then...

Prep:

• Use a hard-sided suitcase. Don't even try this with a soft-sided job
  
• Keep a couple CLEAN pair of mid-length socks handy.
  
• Bring 4-6 sturdy plastic bags (24" x 18" or so, the sort you tend to get in duty-free) with you
  
• If possible, bring some bubble wrap and/or that tissue paper stuff with you
  
  Wrapping:
  
• A clean sock goes over the bottle. This is just in case it breaks so the glass doesn't go everywhere
  
• Now wrap it in that tissue paper stuff
  
• Now wrap it in one of those plastic bags
  
• Now wrap it in as many shirts as you have (or half of them if two bottles, a third if three, etc). Fold the sleeves in so there's extra material protecting your bottle. Don't worry too much about padding top and bottom of the bottle
  
• Now wrap it in your trousers
  
• Now put it in another big plastic bag
  
  Packing in the suitcase:
  
• I now usually pack it opposite of the side that has the handle bars.
  
• If I can shove in a bunch of stuff around the (now) giant plastic bags so that they won't move around, I'll do it.
  
• I will also pack the bottles against the bottom (wheels) side of the suitcase so that they aren't dropping the length of the suitcase the first time I pick it up and wheel it around
  
• Nothing hard, sharp, or heavy is near my bottles. I will often pack some shoes around/near the plastic bags ...but not my steel-toe shoes
  
  What about the extra weight???
  
• First, pack light. You should probably be about 1.7 kg (3.75 lb) under the max weight limit per bottle you think you're going to bring back
  
• If you don't have one of those luggage scales (amazon.com or amazon.co.uk) (and you really should have one) then...
  
• Know that a 1L bottle of booze weighs around 1650 gr (3.65 lb)
  
• Know that a 700 ml bottle of booze weighs around 1490 gr (3.3 lb) if it seems to have a thick glass bottom and around 1140 gr (2.5 lb) if it seems to have a thin glass bottom
  
• Know that a 500 ml bottle of booze weighs around 980 gr (2.15 lb)
  
  It's my opinion that if you follow the advice above you'll probably be ok.

I use one of these luggage scales and it works really well. I have a digital scale from harbor freight that I use for weighing individual items, but I use the luggage scale to weigh my pack before hitting the trail. The digital kitchen scales will be more accurate, but the luggage scale will give you a good ballpark weight.

If you intend on traveling with kite gear, you have to make sure you have no surprises at the airport. It's one thing to go over the 23kg limit and have to pay extra, but it's another entirely to go over the 32kg limit and have your board bag simply refused. It almost happened to me on my way back from Morocco, not a good feeling.

I have been to La Fine Mousse for drinks, nice vibe. They even had quite a few beers from the U.S. on draft.

Bringing back bottles will be a breeze, as long as you have the weight allowance for your check in bag. Each 750ml bottle weighs about 3.5 lbs. Pack them well and maybe stuff them into a trash bag in-case a bottle breaks. The most challenging part was finding a scale to weigh the bag before getting to the airport. how about a luggage scale?

This one is pretty accurate for whole rifles. I just hook the strap around the trigger guard. The food scale I used in the pictures is great for measuring individual parts in grams or ounces.
