Seriously though the Google maps suggestion is good there are also giant measuring tapes on spools for sports, I think for track and field or baseball or something. I bought one and have never used it cuz I never do field work like I should. Mine goes up to 300 feet. I thought it would fit in my bag but it doesn't.

The benefits are they aren't conductive, the cons are that the material is worse in every other way compared to a metal one and they cost a hell of a lot more.

Solution.
I use this and some yellow plastic tent stakes set every 25 feet (after 200 feet). This has several advantages. (1) People know the general direction and distance that I am planning on throwing. This keeps runners and dog-walkers from setting up shop in my zone. (2) I have nice targets to throw at when I'm going for long or short shots. (3) It's pretty exact, so if a hole says 265 to pin, I know I can throw my core at full power and I will be right under the basket. It has a couple disadvantages. (1) It takes about 10 minutes total to set up and then the same to take it down. (2) Without it I would probably think I throw farther than I actually do. (3) If I ever learn how to throw beyond 330' I'm in trouble.
I've used one of these to measure throws in the past. Cheap and effective.
