Measuring wheels are cheaper, and would probably be more fun.

If you have something like this, and old mate wheels it along, and when you've made it to the mark on the circle 30x that's when you start your wall going the other direction. That's what I assume they mean. I'd have designed it to be so many blocks wide.

Best way is to use a measuring wheel - like this http://www.amazon.com/Rolatape-RT312-12-inch-Measuring-Wheel/dp/B004AXKQO8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394489793&sr=8-1&keywords=measuring+wheel

There is no tape, it just clicks every meter or yard. My high school didn't have a track so we did all our workouts on various stretches of road using one of these to measure.

I would not recommend an online mapping app or GPS if you want "accurately as possible." Those can be way off. Second best option would be a bike computer, which can be pretty good if you calibrate it carefully.

Get a measuring wheel. Verify distance. Feel stupid. Run more.

Damn, we're super in the minority here. I'm literally considering doing the same thing. I support this decision. And like, they're not that expensive

It kinda looks like one of these bad boys

They are used to measure distance. I'm guessing investigators are measuring skidmarks and stuff for the insurance/police reports

You can also use mils in a mil reticle with a known target height or a range finder. Could also use one of those wheel distance measure tool(probably the best options).

That would drive me crazy too. If they don't know then you might want to just buy a measuring wheel, or find someone who has one. You might get a crazy look but really who cares.

Man, I've been using a really crappy app to measure my field work throws because I thought a measuring wheel would be too expensive. Thanks for prompting me to actually look at prices.

I usually go to a nearby soccer field and occasionally bring my portable basket as a target to aim at, then sort of imagine different scenarios so I practice specific skills, for example a tree in the way, so I'd try a flex around it, or a hyzer or try a wide forehand or something.

EDIT: Thanks to /u/zoidbergular for reminding me about distances, I picked up a cheap [distance measuring wheel(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L181E6) and some cheap short cones to measure our distances.

I.E. I would mark where to throw from, then starting at about 200 feet, I'd mark every 25 feet out to 400 or so, and that way I can see how far I'm throwing. Also effective for putting practice, measuring and placing a cone for reference every 5 feet

It looks a little bit like a surveyor's measuring wheel. But I'm not sure why the second handle.

At a pop-up stall, it is a gimmick but not a scam. It is a practical tool when used with other measurements. No good doc will take the scan done at the pop-up and use it to actually evaluate their patient. They may do a re-scan in the office (and probably have a 20 second bit on why the in office scan is more accurate if there is a noticeable difference).

The gray box is likely a Tytron scanner.

The short version explanation is that it has two temperature sensing probes that measure the skin temperature on either side of the spine. While the specific temperature of the skin is not a major factor in the evaluation, the difference between the two sides is.

Without getting super technical, significant (+/- 2º to 5ºF) differences in lateral temperature are an indicator of a problem area of the spine. It does not prescribe what adjustment may be necessary, but the magnitude of temperature difference post-adjustment should be smaller.

The scanner has two small wheels that roll along the back or neck to keep track of distance traveled (Think a mini [one of these] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01018D7MS/)) and keeps a constant scan of temperature. The difference can be graphed in a line that shows Left, Difference, Right or as shown on that pop-up display with a bar chart showing scales of difference. The larger the temperature difference, the bigger the bar.

So in short: It's a good tool to assist in confirming an evaluation but it is not a specific diagnostic tool. It also happens to be a good non-invasive marketing tool.

400m and above, easy enough to do with an app like RunKeeper.

For smaller distances you'll want something like this to measure accurately: https://www.amazon.com/TR-Industrial-TR88017-Collapsible-Measuring/dp/B01018D8PE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1475160126&sr=8-3&keywords=measure+distance.
