But, they will need to be shined. If y'all are at Bragg just go to General Jacksons, and than to any of the boot shiners on yadkin.

Any other post should have them at clothing and sales.

I was in the Army back when we used to always wear black boots. So I've put plenty of miles in these boots. and why I say you may want to look at actual combat boots.

Advantage is that the leather is long lasting and since they were made en-masse they are by definition cheap(as far as quality to price goes). And since they were supposed to be used to wear and tear friendly, they were made so you could easily re-sole them(especially the Corcoran Jump Boots )

Any military base close to you has cobblers (usually attached to a little Korean lady's sew shop) right off post that can re-sole the bottoms, since they are fairly stiff bottomed (steel plate in the sole to prevent punji sticks from piercing foot if stepped on)

Disadvantages: The Corcorans and most military boots have a stiffer ankle area, which you don't like. The ones that are the best for angle mobility are jungle boots They aren't BIFL, but rather BIF 2-3 years before you need to get them re-soled. Many of my friends bought them, then immediately had them re-soled so it would lose the stiff bottom and become a long lasting sneaker...

I preferred the Corcorans listed above, and will be getting a new pair as soon as my bunion surgery gets done.

But you might look at the original "GI Combat Boot"

Splits the difference between ankle mobility of Jungle Boots and BIFL-ness of Corcorans.

Last warning: Fakes / Knock-Offs

Corcorans have always been made by that single manufacturer so you don't need to worry about knockoffs (and they are the best). But the USGI Combat Boots AKA Recruit Boots and the USGI Jungle Boots have had knock off for a long time. Bad stitching, or just shittier quality materials usually. So if you see a pair that is $30-50 or seems too good to be true, pass on it. Most military boots are in the $99-200 range.

Swing by an Army Navy Store and start trying them on.

I decided against the Kuuva due to reviews stating poor durability.

Something that is similar is the Belleville Mini-Mil. I like mine a lot.

u/steveyoo97 · 7 pointsr/BarefootRunning

I second this.

Active duty army here. I use these all the time. They're not zero-drop, but more minimal than most other boots out there.

And they're within regulations! (for the army, at least).

ooh, they come in black: http://www.amazon.com/Belleville-Tactical-Research-Mini-Mil-Athletic/dp/B00AMLEPI0

I have these specifically https://www.amazon.com/Altama-Maritime-Assault-Friendly-Operators/dp/B074PBWCCR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542066967&sr=8-1&keywords=altama%2Botb%2Bmaritime&th=1&psc=1

after wearing Nike SB dunks in lows and mids, I've always preferred the mids so that's what I went for with these. I got them in black as they would be easier to pass for more than casual events. as for scuffing I've had mine for about 6 months wearing them a couple of times a week and extensively during the past two weeks for this trip where we walked tons and hiked quite a few miles all to come back unscathed. honestly these shoes look like I just took them out of the box though I hear this is common except for the metal eyelets losing their black color and turning copper/bronze.

u/Mr_Fox03 · 4 pointsr/civilairpatrol

Here’s a good pair of jungle boots (they are very easy to spit shine.) And if you like the modern look these are rated pretty nicely as well. One tip, these are not for very heavy use considering the price of both.

u/tk6215 · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Ok so reading all of these responses I have to put my two cents in. I've owned two pairs of these Bates Men's 11 Inches Paratrooper Side Zip Work Boot http://amzn.com/B000G5TDGQ
They look good with jeans or even dress pants. the toes are shiny and look great. the soles are non marking so no black marks on the floor.

And the best part is that my first pair lasted me 7 years, then I took them to a cobbler and resoled these and they lasted me another 5 years. Then I sold them. Bought another pair and they have lasted me 2 years. also the side zip means you have to lace them once.

I don't know what your boot requirements are, but would these be possible?

Saloman XA Forces.

Or these if you're brave enough, no balls.

u/NoIDontEatAss · 2 pointsr/army

Since when did y’all start rucking more in AIT? All we did was the one 12 mile ruck lmao

Edit: idk what boots to recommend, I’ve only tried one, so I have nothing to compare it too.. but they worked well for me. These are the ones I have: https://www.amazon.com/Rocky-Lightweight-Commercial-Military-Boot/dp/B0721LCZ91

This will be my first year too, so maybe this isn't the most helpful. After doing research I got [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2GHN9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_v4c5CbBXCVRSA) from the Army Navy surplus to use this year. So far they are super comfortable for me to walk around in, we will see how they really do in the heat. Originally I had bought a pair of Blundstones as suggested on eplaya. The main praise of them was that you don't have to lace them up and they are nicer on your hands. Apparently when your hands get dried out, it becomes painful to lace up boots. I haven't decided if I will really take them though because I ended up loving them over the winter. I might anyways, because I've seen recommendations to make sure you bring multiple pairs of shoes. And also because they just just above the ankle where as the Bates are mid calf so it might be nice to have that choice.

u/Ch3llieBelly · 2 pointsr/BarefootRunning

These Tactical Research Mini-Mil's were the only ones that I could find that were truly slip resistant and minimalist. I love them. I have been wearing them for 3-4 months now at two different restaurants and have not had any problems with slippage or from my managers saying anything about them. They also just look like a nice pair of shoes when wearing pants because they cover the top portion that looks like a military boot. The bottom portion looks like a dressy casual shoe.

u/bearhammer · 2 pointsr/The_Donald

Fellow weaponized militarypedes we have a footwear emergency!

This highly rated AR 670-1 compliant boot is currently unavailable and that's a shame. Send them an email on their official site telling them you are interested in purchasing their brand going forward. Bring this boot back in production!

I just wear desert trekking boots. TR-660s. These are fairly soft compared to waterproof trekking boots, and practically a skate shoe compared to a shanked work boot. Soft enough to hike up a mountain, vented, and just hard enough that the Saint pedal's pins don't bother my feet after 90KM. Uppers have saved my ankles a couple times.

Do what feels right to your feet.

I always thought cycling shoes were merely about the cleat - never considered the sole was stiff on purpose. An MTB platform pedal obviously offers no help with the cleat - but I have never considered that I was losing power transfer when the entire ball of my foot fits on the pedal. I'll have to read up on that.

My hospital boots: Salomon Urban Jungle SZ my indoor or light duty boots. These are my best boots for breathability, mobility and simplicity. They are a lightweight boot and have more of a athletic feel to them and suit the hospital environment well. I love my 5.11 boots but they are more of a rough n' tough boot, and they are a bit heavy for the hospital environment, that is compared to the Salomons atleast. I would still vouch for durability on these boots though but I have little experience taking these out in rough terrain. Out of personal preference I like seperate boots for seperate tasks. For lightduty work that requires running or walking on mostly flat terrain I'd recommend these boots 100%
P.s. I've heard the Under Armour boots are similar to my Salomons but they appear to be a little less durable (just on visual inspection at the store)

My patrol boots: 5.11 ATAC 2.0 8" love these to death. Fave boots by far. Comfy, durable, and generally breathable (they are waterproof so that's saying alot) mine have been used and abused by walking through scrapyard and abandoned buildings for a year and the only downfall I've come across it the fact that the insides of the boot have a sealed cloth lining and the stitching on the right boot has come off on the inside so sometimes when I pull my foot out the inside tries to come out with it, and there's no real way to fix it to stop it from happening, unless I wanna bust open the lining and then stich it all back up again which would be difficult and not worth it. But again this is after hard use over the past year and no other part of the boot has broken, laces are like new, soles have barely worn down and are solid still, toe of the boot has no chipping or wear on it. Absolutely love em. Will be buying another pair when these eventually need to be replaced.

My (soon-to-be) winter patrol boots: Salomon Toundra Forces
(The 'toundra pro' model looks nice too but less grip it seems) can't say how good they are yet as I haven't tried em but I'm excited to get a new winter boot.

I have a couple pairs of S.W.A.T. Original boots and Danner Crosstech that I used to use. The SWAT ones I ended up bending the steel plate at the bottom kicking a tire, they were good boots and held up quite a while but I would have expected them to be a bit more durable, but they are on the lower end of the price scale. The Danner boots I actually received for free and use them as 'show boots' I guess. I don't like the feel of the sole and they feel a little clunky, I'm sure id get use to them but for now I just keep em clean in case I need em.

Edit: added reasons why I liked them

I would get these. If your worried about money they're only 60 so they wont break the bank, but they are still very good quality. Also they're sand resistant and breathable.

Belleville Tactical Research TR103 MiniMil Ultra Light Sage Green Boot 030R https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BPWOPLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_O2PCAbHR8VXY8

The only downside for me was the insoles that Belleville put in them, so be sure to get some good insoles.

u/plushturtle · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

If you don't wanna break the bank you could look for a pie of Corcoran boots such as these http://www.amazon.com/Corcoran-Jump-Boot-M-Mens-Boot/dp/B008M22830

Not going to Coachella this year but I've been there 8 or 9 times. I always wear military surplus boots. This style:

It's always worked just fine for me. But I'm also used to it since these are my every day shoes as well, I wear them for everything except weightlifting, which I have a dedicated pair of powerlifting shoes for.

these? I cant find them anywhere in my size.

I really want this boot, but I just can't stand that glossy toebox. I guess there's no question, I just wanted to bitch.

Unless anyone has any advice.

these are good alternatives. they're american military parachute boots from ww2 I believe, don't take my word on it.

Love the simplicity of your fit, looks like something vince staples would wear.
