Wife chiming in.

Never did dirt riding before the CB500X. Went out and ended up doing single-track by myself the second time I went out (by myself, how crazy am I). That's the main reason I went down - because I am a total noob. That said, I picked it up both times by myself, although it was a bit of work. It's a 500cc bike, and it weighs accordingly.

Can sit on it no problem. There's an aftermarket seat kit that you fit to the existing seat pan (either yourself or have an upholstery shop do it) that's supposed to be more comfortable and lowers it maybe another inch. The stock one is kind of boxy and the edges can make for an uncomfortable seat, at least until it's broken in. This all said, I'm 5'5" and it works for me, it may be even better for you height wise.

Again, never rode dirt before. The stock tires are definitely weighted toward street. But I've had no problem on dirt/rocks/roots when I'm going fast enough for the conditions. Since I can be overly cautious, this is something I have to work on. Haven't really done wet yet. In mud, they're definitely not knobs - pick your line, go straight and get out of it. Different tires in my future, but don't want to sacrifice being able to ride on the road (I love being able to stick like that in turns).

Plenty of power at the low end - off-road, I've been doing most of my riding in 2nd and 3rd gear. Yesterday, I went over the 300 mile mark and wound it up a bit - had some pep above 5000 rpms but it's not my Ascot (which will grab you hard when it hits the powerband up around 9k or so). But for twisty back roads, I see no problems, same with dirt/trail riding.

/u/Clamworm knows what he's talking about re: suspension/rally kit/engine protection. I trust his judgment, but haven't noticed any problems with it bottoming out or anything with the stock suspension, although I would like some different rims sooner rather than later (spokes are the way to go).

All this said, I love standing up on the pegs and going at a rocky hill path with the new bike. I have an old book from the spouse called "The Woods Rider" that is teaching me tips on this kind of riding, and it really is so fun.
