Here's the 2019 version. Not much has changed.

Couldn't quite see it properly but the fact that he didn't move his hand much makes me think it's something like an automatic centre punch. Place at the bottom corner of a window and it will shatter tempered glass pretty well.

Tried actual nail pulling pliers yet?

Crescent 11" Nail Puller Pliers - NP11 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NM6VAA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.DKTDb5M86TSZ

Or a more traditional carpenters nail pulling pliers

Channellock 358 8-Inch End Cutting Plier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SBD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jFKTDbTNNG38H

The latter choice tends to cut smaller nails when you grip them too hard, but then they end up being easier to set. Be advised to slide some thin wood or metal under the side of the plier to protect your floor while you extract.

If the pallets are relatively uniform I'd go with building a jig and using a hammer

But for least setup, the "catspaw" others mentioned is the right tools (technically not sure if this is a catspaw, but it's what you want)

I have had some luck with bearing pullers on a bearing like this. These usually are not stuck too bad. If you by the cheap puller in the link it might work once. A good puller kit will be $250 and the difference will be the hardness of the steel. The cheap set will be mangled after one use and hopefully will last long enough to pull one bearing

Nail pulling pliers. When I re-did our floors I tried pretty much everything that has been suggested with varying succes. Part way through the project I picked up some nail pulling pliers and they were by far the best. I wish I would have found them earlier.

Hey that's awesome! Congrats.

I don't think the 22 is too heavy, but it needs to be smooth faced. That's basically what I have.

A plane is very handy, I would get a low angle block plane (maybe that's what /u/Guyrannosaurus_Tex meant in his comment). However a crappy block plane might be worse than no plane at all IMO. The Stanley is decent but I wouldn't go lower than that price-wise. You want the low-angle for trimming end grain. Not absolutely necessary but a lot easier. I use it a lot when I'm running trim and need a quick adjustment and don't want to go back to the saw. A smaller one will be handier (more portable) than a big one. My go-to is actually this guy, https://www.lie-nielsen.com/product/small-block-planes. But I think the Stanley or similar is fine to start. You have to keep it sharp though.

For other tools besides what Tex mentioned, a pair of diagonal or end-nipper pliers, a small cats paw (the Japanese style is nice for finish work (like this https://www.amazon.com/Shark-Corp-21-2020-8-Inch-Puller/dp/B00004TBQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468101411&sr=8-1&keywords=japanese+cats+paw), a scribe (like this https://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-843-Compass-Scriber/dp/B00004T7R8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468101493&sr=8-1&keywords=pencil+scribe), a few chisels (a 1/4" and a 1/2" will probably be most versatile to start), a chalk line (blue chalk). and perhaps a stud finder.

Most of all, look at what your co-workers have. That'll be your best clue to what's useful in the type of work you do. Good luck!

edit: Hey, there's one other tool you should get -- the habit of constantly learning :) - check this site out, http://www.thisiscarpentry.com/

Found this one on Amazon that looks much more like OP's.

u/Princecoyote · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Solved!

I found this on Amazon, which is the exact tool. Do you know how it is used? When I google tapered jointer, I only see big machines, and images of what I have here.

u/abfarrer · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Get a cats paw and pull the nails from the track strip, you should be able to get the majority of them while beating the hell out of the track strip but not touching the floor.

They work great too. And still making them like they used to:

+1 to what shelbyguns said.

What is your goal/intended purpose? The mission dictates the gear...

That red handled set is probably more suited towards auto mechanic type functionality such as prying an alternator, etc. If that is the goal and you’re looking for options, look into the Mayhew Dominator series. Goes up to 50” IIRC.

If your goal is more along the lines of homeowner maintenance/weekend projects, you may be better served looking along the lines of a a flat bar (such as a Vaughan 15” SuperBar). You can use it for prying trim, light demo, etc. There are smaller versions such as a Stanley WonderBar (7 1/2” & 12” versions available).

A cats paw such as the Estwing nail puller is great for pulling nails and some prying, but the above-mentioned flat bars do a better job in getting into thinner spaces and can do prying as well.

Well, I'm not sure if this is quite what you are looking for, but this looks pretty "heavy duty" to me:

Pallet buster and a "punch nailer" were my best $100 spent for tearing pallets apart. Literally cut my time by like 80%. The punch nailer requires an air compressor, but super worth it. Shoot the nails into a bucket with a hole cut in the lid and some water in the bucket.

You'll have so many boards you won't know what to do with them all. It takes all the work out of it. It'll also make you more picky when it comes to your pallets.

Holy shit I just had a moment. It's not "let's get down to brass tacks" it's "let's get down to brass tax"

Nail puller. Like this

u/WellRenderedFat · 1 pointr/specializedtools

I used this earlier this year to redo my 3/4” western red cedar fence. It was gapped pickets before but I wanted it to be privacy style. This was awesome to reuse all the old boards. If the nails are extremely angled and set deep, it will take a chunk of wood out with the head. The nails in my fence were 11 gauge aluminum screw shanks and presented no problems. If you hold it flush the piston will create an additional divot in the wood that can be avoided by giving it a little space. I’m happy to own one though. I wanted to buy an extra piece so I could modify it and Air Locker hooked me up with a link and a reasonable price. Great CS.

It can also be used to drive things on through wood.

For anyone removing nails, I suggest adding this to the combo. Crescent 11" Nail Puller Pliers - NP11 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NM6VAA/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_7mHPDbW5Y7VYA

If you are into recycling timber, then this nail puller is really good: http://www.amazon.co.uk

I use an Estwing 12" Cats Paw every day at work to pull nails and staples that are often over-driven into wood. Works wonders and has held up really well over the last year.

I’ve got pencils and that very same tape measure.

Looking at this hammer: Stanley STHT51246 20-Ounce Steel Hammer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B5A1VVG/

And this speed square (figure the combination square may come in handy later, only a couple dollars extra): Swanson Tool S0101CB Speed Square Layout Tool with Blue Book and Combination Square Value Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SOVRPXW/

And tool belt:
Bucket Boss 50200 Builders Rig https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GK4TZ2E/

And cats paw: Estwing Nail Puller - 12" Double-Ended Pry Bar with Straight & Wedge Claw End - DEP12 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015YPJMY/

See any problem with these for starting off?
