I also got the Hori and i actually like the D-Pad, but its certainly a different feel.
Few days ago a did my first shell swap of the original joy cons and i'm quite happy with the results.

This is the shell i used , but you can also get them cheaper on their own website, with shiiping from china.

Only slight drawback for me, is the rubbery "soft touch" surface, that feels more slippery to me than the original joy con shells.

3. The switch is all plastic (even the screen) so it's a bit more susceptible to damage. In some cases, it has also warped because of heat, so be sure you have good airflow wherever you put the dock. Definitely get a hard(er) carrying case (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Vault-Case-Nintendo-Switch-Black/dp/B07348551R/), a tempered glass screen protector (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Protector-Switch-2017/dp/B01N3ASPNV/) and maybe a slim case for the switch itself if you drop shit a lot or just leave it lying around (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Station-Protective-Accessories/dp/B078MKQY2W/).

That's the one I have. I also own the Skull & Co but I'm giving it away because I don't use it. I prefer more minimalistic cases and the one you are looking at is the best case I have purchased.

Only suggestion I have is to replace the grip that comes with that tomtoc case to this one:

The grip they include is not dockable. The one I just linked (Kingtop Switch grip) fits in the same case, is dockable, allows easy removal of the Joycons, access to the kickstand and holds 4 additional games in the grip handle themselves.

That's the combo I'm currently rocking. All black, minimalistic, versatile and stealthy. I'd 110% recommend it!

I bought the Switchblades first, forgot I bought them, had them show up and used em for a while when I saw the inexplicably matching shells on Amazon and I needed to buy $35 worth of stuff for free shipping so I figured why not. Then when I showed my friend he mentioned how much it looked like a 70s amplifier but it was missing the silver and so I spent way too much on the metal buttons. I personally can't stand fake-silver plastic, it looks tacky and shitty 100% of the time and Linus (steelsticks creator) makes an excellent product, can't recommend him enough.

eXtremeRate has a chrome gold shell. But they dont have a Matte gold like BASSTOP used to sell.

Old(-ish) post, but I just bought this AmazonBasics stand and a slim, clear Switch case made by Maneea that fits both the dock and this stand.

I love how compact the Amazon stand is—it folds up to be very small. Only downside over the Hori one is this one lacks the neat Switch logo on the front.

Slim-case: It’s a super-thin (and somewhat fragile) case, but does the job and has separate shells for each Joy-Con so they can be removed for in-hand play or with straps (but doesn’t fit in the Joy Con Comfort Grip or Charging Grip; handheld or separately in hand or with straps work fine).

It’s transparent and other colors are available for $5 more. Also includes one tempered glass screen protector.

Great value for the price—$9.99, but it is fragile and reviewers have mentioned that when you remove it the case can crack. Manufacturer seems very generous and has offered replacements if this happens.

Overall I recommend the Amazon stand and if you don’t mind leaving the case on (and not using a JoyCon Grip), the Meneea case, too.
