First time posting here in Baby Bumps, but I’ve been a long time commenter/fan of this sub. Currently 38+6 and a FTM. I LOVE seeing everyone’s nurseries and am so excited to share ours! Had so much fun putting the nursery together.

Here are some of the things we got that I love in our nursery:

  1. Birch tree removable wallpaper: NuWallpaper NU1650 Birch Tree Peel and Stick Wallpaper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q00PA40/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IgYADbV0S2SB6

  2. Dragon mobile: Baby Unisex Dragon Mobile for Crib Room Decor Nursery Baby Shower Gift https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSMR1Y3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_phYADbATRKFC4

  3. Green geometric rug: Well Woven Isometry Blue & Grey Modern Geometric Triangle Pattern 7'10" x 9'10" Area Rug Soft Shed Free Easy to Clean Stain Resistant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZPL8Q1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0hYADb4YGYXBN

  4. Birch tree stump laundry bag: Jacone Stylish Tree Stump Shape Design Storage Basket Cotton Fabric Washable Cylindric Laundry Hamper with Rope Handles, Decorative and Convenient for Kids Bedroom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6DVUMJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wiYADb71SJQHE

  5. Woodland Animals Crib bedding set - Sweet Jojo Designs https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/sweet-jojo-designs-woodland-toile-crib-bedding-collection/238019?keyword=sweet-jojo-woodlands-crib

I know we will probably have to adjust things in the nursery once the baby comes and he gets older (I’ve seen plenty of moms comment on here how they laugh at some of the nurseries because they’ll eventually get wrecked or puked on or whatever) but for right now, I absolutely love it. I wanted to have a lush, forest feel...with dragons!

Good luck to all the moms out there. I’m so excited to become a mom myself. :)

If you do s registry through Amazon they have a great walk through thing that goes through different categories and sub categories of things you might need or want.

I'm not a first timer so here are a few things you may want to register for aside from what you already have :

  • crib, crib sheets. You may want to get a mobile although you probably won't use it at first.we use this one and love it. You can use it even after baby sits up or begins to stand

  • you may want a bassinet or something similar since Most parents want their baby close to them for a while. We had a bassinet but hated it. In our old house it only fit at the end of our bed so I'd have to get up and by the time I did my husband would be awake too. This time around we're getting an arms reach co sleeper. You can use it as a bassinet or attached as a consleeper. It's more compact than the bassinet we had and the sides fold down which is awesome as a co sleeper. If you decide to get either you need a couple sheets for that

  • stroller

  • swing or bouncer. My kids always hated bouncers but loved the swing. It's seriously a life saver. We still have our swing but are also getting a rock n play this time around. It folds almost flat so we can easily bring it with us when we go see family and I'll easily be able to bring it around the house.

  • bathtub. You'll most likely want a tub for the baby

  • baby monitor. We have a summer infant camera one we love

  • crib mattress. We use Serta. We had a safety 1st one for our second and it was a piece of garbage. It lost its shape and started to get stained and have an odor from being spit up on and things like that.

  • mattress pads- id recommend 2-3

  • swaddle wraps if you plan to use them

  • a thermometer, nail clipper, maybe gas drops

  • shopping cart cover- won't be used right away but my daughter loved to put her mouth on the cart 😑

  • Bottle brushes and drying rack

  • high chair- won't be used right away. Mine was able to lean back (I have a graco one)

  • changing pad. I use the keekaroo peanut. It's pricey but so worth it in my opinion. I don't have to deal with covers or changing them in the middle of the night if they get soiled. I just wipe it down and done.

  • baby carrier- I've tried the babybjorn and moby. The babybjorn was really uncomfortable to wear. The moby was super hot to wear. I ended up buying an ergo and love it.

  • bottle warmer: some people say this isn't necessary. We got one when my daughter had to be on special formula. The thing is the formula when mixed was extremely bubbly. It would solve her one digestive issue while giving her extreme gas making her uncomfortable. I read online that people had the same issue so they'd pre mix the formula and put it in the fridge. The thing was my daughter would throw up cold formula. So we got the boom bottle warmer. I realized how convenient that was for nighttime feedings. So now I plan on doing the same thing. Pre mixing bottles for st night then heating as necessary. It's not fun or easy mixing bottles at 2am.

  • pack n play. We have one that has a changing area and bassinet. Honestly we probably used it once like that. We didn't really use it again until our kids were a couple months older. I'd put the playmat in it and let them play on it while I'd vacuum the room or tidy up.

    Things you shouldn't register for:

  • clothes- if you register in a store like babies r us i wouldn't register for clothes. Most people like to pick out their own outfit. It's also very difficult to find the exact thing someone wants

  • more than one car seat. You probably will only end up using one car seat. I'd only say get a 2nd base if you and someone else will be switching off doing daycare drop offs and pickups

  • formula maker- I mentioned pre making bottles earlie. You can just shake them or use something like this. You don't need a crazy expensive keurig type formula maker. Everyone I know who has had one ends up saying it was a waste of $ and doesn't work right.

    Hope this starter list helps!

Disclaimer: There's really no theme to our nursery, despite the abundance of giraffes and Poohs. I already owned all of these Winnie the Pooh stuffed bears...he's a lifelong love of mine, and I just think giraffes are neat.

TOP FIVE

  1. Crib: Graco Benton 5-in-1 in Pebble Gray. I got a really, really good deal on this through amazon, because the box it came in was damaged and they couldn't guarantee that the crib itself wouldn't have some superficial damage. I wasn't bothered by the prospect, and luckily it turned out I didn't have to be! Crib was in perfect shape and I got it for 50% its normal price.
  2. Mobile: unfortunately, I think this particular style of mobile is sold out, but I got it from Sorrel & Fern on Amazon. Here is a similar style, though it's woodland themed.
  3. Blinds: we had some old pull cord blinds before, which were some of the first things to go. I got these magnetic blinds here. I will say they're a liiittle too big for the size window we have but nothing a little adjusting can't fix. They were super easy to install, too.
  4. Marquee 'J': I love this so much. I don't even know why.
  5. We got a lot of hand me down furniture from friends and family - our changing table, dresser, and the recliner I have set up in my nursing corner. I think my favorite contribution from family is the hand-made giraffe that my Aunt knit for him. I know it took her a lot of time and I adore it.
  6. Bonus stroller: My MIL bought this for us, which I'm really grateful for. We live 2 blocks away from a sizable park and I wanted something that would be easy to handle on the walking trails.
  7. Bonus floating shelves: I had a hell of a time installing these, but that was a fight between me and the drywall than it was the fault of the shelves themselves.

Maybe get this! It goes perfectly with your theme!

u/brighthotrain · 6 pointsr/sleeptrain

This sounds silly I know, but my little boy loves pressing buttons. We got him this mobile and took the actual mobile part off. The little bottom part is four buttons, a night light and each button plays a song. We lay him down and he's drowsy, he pressed the buttons and falls asleep. The baby monitor goes off in the night with him waking randomly then pressing them and going back to sleep - maybe something like that sort of distraction would help?

u/Annabellybutton · 6 pointsr/BabyBumps

Of all the nursery themes I've seen I love this most of all. The Small world disney ride has the warmest memories. For my baby I made a crib mobile and bought a musical mobile spinner and Its a small world is one of the songs, it would be perfect for your room!

Omg this thing has been his favorite since he was 3 weeks old. He still goes nuts over it at 4 months. It keeps him entertained longer than anything else in the house.

I love my boppy, my LO is 11 weeks and I’ve used it for breastfeeding every day. He also does tummy time on it because he hates laying on a flat surface and hangs out lounging on it. I get so much use out of this thing. It’s one of my favorite purchases. Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner, Sketch Slate Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075GLC4RK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ow2VCb8AT517E

If you’re gonna BF, instead of getting disposable pads I got these washable ones which are velour on the inside so they’re soft on your nipples, and they are good at absorption. They have different shapes for different amounts of protection, I wouldn’t get any of them except the blue rounds “overnight” ones because they are the most absorbable. This baby tub is awesome because it folds flat (i live in a NYC apt and space is very dear!) and it also has a little hammock so you don’t have to hold the baby the whole time he’s bathing. Kidsmile Baby Bathtub Portable Collapsible Bathing Tub with Non-Slip Mat, Foldable Shower Basin with Infant Sling, Comfort Folding Baby Bathtub, Deluxe Newborn to Toddler Tub, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0711KT2RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-y2VCbBKWC6SM

My baby loves this mobile. It’s super engaging. Tiny Love Classic Mobile, Into The Forest https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0771N1BZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kB2VCbHCM9BJE

Baby is OBSESSED with this toy. We have it hanging over his changing table and he lays there and stares at it forever. It’s his absolute favorite thing. I’m serious. The only thing is I read that the ink on the eyes smear off if they put it in their mouth so I don’t plan on giving it to him to hold/play with but just as a distraction while he’s getting his diaper changed. But seriously he never gets tired of looking at it and it was the first thing that made him happy when he started being aware and I really recommend it. Baby also hated the "bucket" style infant seat. A few things helped us:

  • Switching to a convertible seats instead of the bucket style, so he was more upright.
  • We had a crib mobile and the matching car chart entertained him for awhile.
  • This music toy clipped on with one of these bad boys so he couldn't chuck it out of his seat altogether also helped.
  • A mirror so he could see us driving is still a must-have, at 15 months.

An assortment of thoughts and questions for today:

Formula smell question: We use Similac Sensitive Non-GMO. If he doesn't drink it all right away, it develops a foul smell within maybe 15 minutes. Is this true of other formulas? Any recommendations?

Post-partum nausea? Does anyone else get occasional bouts of post-partum nausea? I get it when I swim, e.g. when I do cardiovascular exercise. After about 25 minutes I start to feel sick. It feels very similar to when I was pregnant. Maybe hormonal?

Shout out to this mobile. We put it up last night and I thought my baby might hyperventilate with excitement. It was like Sue getting a surprise.

u/RayningAcid · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

We got a mobile that contrary to the pictures, the animals face down. Also my baby monitor projects stars etc onto the wall. Is it necesary? No, probably not. But it gives him something to look at when he's ready to pay attention to these things.

....Also the husband really wanted them.

  1. The rocker glider we got off of craigslist for $100. Super comfortable and clean! Way better than the old Windsor one I had that broke within a month. I’m not sure the brand but it’s very good quality and the folks we bought it from said it was from a friend’s furniture store.

  2. The crib and dresser set were $150 for the pair, also bought off of craigslist. Amazing score! They’re both Delta products. The changer topper was bought off amazon to hold the pad in place:

  3. The mobile is off of Amazon and we bought it last, it’s got a space ship and airplanes/clouds — we thought it was perfect!

  4. I couldn’t find the link to the storage cubes for some reason, but it was a SONGMICS 6-cube storage rack, also bought off amazon. The cubes were separate:

I absolutely love this piece with the art we also bought off amazon above it. The frames were from dollar tree! We use the cubes to store his blankets, extra changing pads, pump materials, toys, extra bottles and pacifiers, etc.

We originally wanted to do a space and elephant themed room, then changed it to animals and space, then changed it to a general sky theme. These pictures are from yesterday when we finally finished, a day before our c section we were just surprised with! Due to complications this ended up being our best option, I’m sitting in the waiting room right now trying not to think about how thirsty I am, haha. Pictures and birth story are soon to come of our baby boy Isaac! 😊

Edit: ignore the plain gray sheet on the twin bed, that will have a comforter set on it soon for my seven year old daughter who will be joining us part time in a couple months. It’s hard to see in the photos but we put some glow stars over her bed, and my mother will be making her a sheer canopy to hang over as well.

I am obsessed with my baby boy’s nursery! Husband painted the mural and it’s perfect. I’m 37 weeks now and I am so happy we have it done. Below are my favorite items and where you can get them:

Ok. I know this one take batteries but it turns off automatically after 30 minutes. We've had one for a couple months now, use it every day, and still haven't had to change the AAs yet. It's on long enough that my babies play for a minute and then conk out watching it. The animals face down and it spins. Can be played with music or no music. Also, it can attach to anything. I ordered one for each babe and am considering a third so it can stay in the car for outings. By far this is the most useful piece of non-essential baby gear we bought.

My mom and mom-in-law always told me that he would grow out of it... at 15 months, he sure did! Every baby is different, give love more than anything! :)

Still needs to grow out of bottles at nighttime, though...

Edit to add: He seemed to really take to this new mobile I got for him that I saw on Homeland (lol), it totally soothes him right down to sleep town.

u/Wesa · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

You totally need this mobile now!

I got it as a Christmas gift from my BIL. I love it!

It looks similar to one I've seen on Amazon: Baby Crib Mobile by Tik Tak Design Co - Felt Ball Mobile https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VJTWGW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uXwgDbE7DK8J1

u/NewMama517 · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

Check Etsy!! I ordered a custom one from Etsy (my nursery theme is puppies, but colors are navy, pink, and grey - all generic puppy type stuff for babies is very masculine looking so I custom ordered) that I LOVE. It was $56 but it's absolutely perfect and exactly what I wanted because it's custom.

I hung it from the ceiling and bought this music box thingy that I tied between the mobile itself and the ribbon affixing it to the ceiling hook. It plays music, and spins the mobile. I like it a lot.

I have a video of the mobile going if you want it. I ordered on Etsy from this shop, GraceAnnBaby but she's since moved to Amazon Handmade instead of Etsy. She did a great job! It did take about 2 months from when I placed the order to receiving it though.

u/clshaw · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

u/call_me_cthulhu_ · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

hahaha id be thinking the same thing! im convinced there is a ghost in our house. my daughter has a mobile on her crib that's battery operated. its this one. as you can see the only way to turn it on is by pressing the buttons on the front and/or by pressing the button on the remote. until recently she slept in a bassinet in our room so I had time to get her nursery perfected. anyway i had the mobile attached to the crib but because she didn't sleep in there i hung the remote on the door handle so i wouldn't misplace it. so i was putting clothes away in her dresser and the mobile just turns on. the dresser btw is about 8ft from her crib and about 6ft from the door so theres no way i could've either pressed the button on accident or touched the remote. just altogether freaks me out.

u/SteeleStaples · 2 pointsr/DIY

what about something like this Baby Mobile Motor. Might be able to find one that is plugged in and would work forever.

u/PMmeyourmacncheese · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

Where I literally get everything ever. Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00W89SX2S/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492140247&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=developmental+mobile&dpPl=1&dpID=51NS6yUJv7L&ref=plSrch

I really like it because you can swap the images as baby grows. They start out as black and white geometrical shapes and progress to colors and more complex shapes (houses/fish). Plus one of the images is a black and white baby face which he freaking loves. He's always smiling and squealing at the baby.

Once my baby noticed it (around 8-10 weeks) she really enjoyed looking at. I was able to put her down in her crib, turn it on, and it would give me 20 minutes of free time to use the bathroom and eat! She's 6 months now and she still enjoys it and I think she finds the music comforting b/c she's heard it so much! I got this inexpensive one and it's great b/c it's easy to move and travel with.

We had the same problem with a tall homemade mobile, had good luck with this one from Amazon. The extra arms come off easily if you don't need them (we didn't) and it's pretty inexpensive.
