Dried beans are MUCH cheaper. They're a bit of a pain in the ass because you have to soak them overnight (or at least several hours) before you cook them but the savings is very much worth it. For a bonus, if you want to fart a lot and loudly, drink or cook with the water they soaked in instead of disposing it.
The same goes for any type of dry rice as opposed to the instant variety. Personally, I avoid the all white rice because the nutritional value is super low compared to any other type of rice. Although, even the white rice has more nutritional value than Ramen and it's cheaper.
Another good trick if you don't have much time is to buy a rotisserie chicken. I eat the legs for one mean with nuked frozen veggies and then shred the breasts to make several more meals. So for $7ish I can get 3-4 meals. It's easy to add variety too. I use the shredded breasts for anything from wraps to adding BBQ sauce and making sloppy joe type things.
For breakfast, Oatmeal is your friend. If you can afford dried fruits to add to it, its much better. You can get two 5lb bags of it on Amazon, that's over 100 breakfasts. If you want to make it super healthy, just add a TBsp of brewers yeast to it before you add the boiling water. That $20 of brewers yeast will last you years. I now also add Acai berries to mine but that's $30 every two to three months.
Source: I've been very, very, poor many, many, times in my life. Even some of the times I haven't been technically poor, I've not had a renter or been in the process of evicting a delinquent tenant in my rental unit so I had to pay two mortgages/insurances/common fees/etc on one income.

Whole Whole Wheat Pesto Pasta and Mozzarella Dish
• 7 ounces uncooked whole wheat rotini (I used Aldi Fit'n Active brand)
• 4 cups broccoli florets (I used 1 bag of frozen Broccoli, just threw it in the microwave)
• 1 package Knorr® Pesto sauce mix
• 1 Tablespoon olive oil
• 3 Tbsp. wine vinegar (or regular)
• 1 pint of cherry tomatoes [or grape tomatoes], halved
• 1 cup cubed mozzarella cheese
• Salt and ground black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
I posted this a few days ago, but posting again because I love it. This is my version of Keto & Co's plain hot breakfast.
My current breakfast obsession is:
Stir the dry ingredients together, then add water and mix well. Nuke for 1.5 min. Comes out very similar to malto meal or cream of wheat. I add 2 Tbsp butter and a ton of cinnamon, tiny splash of vanilla and 15 drops of ez-sweetz (sucralose) cause I like it sweet. SO freaking good and hot and cinnamon-y.
Macros for the whole thing, prepared as above: 303 cal, 4 net carbs, 3 protein, 27 fat.
Nope, here it is in Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Quaker-Instant-Oatmeal-Dinosaur-Breakfast/dp/B001M0AKE8
In Pennsylvania!
You can buy them in bulk on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Quaker-Instant-Strawberry-Adventure-Breakfast/dp/B0183RTVBU
I like this brand - it's pretty popular. Really just any real, non-instant oats should do. Then you can cook to your desired tenderness, and add flavorings as you desire.
http://www.amazon.com/Bobs-Red-Mill-Oatmeal-24-Ounce/dp/B004VLVBVG
I keep it pretty basic, just add milk, honey, and cinnamon. But you can go balls out with nuts, raising, fruit, etc., if that's your schtick. I really do think it's a lot better than the packets, although I do occasionally keep those around if I expect to be busy.
I started making my own granola. 100+ servings of rolled oats costs $17 and lasts me about three months of granola and overnight oats-making needs. Easily a $100/year savings, as bags of granola cost $5+.
Cold-brew coffee is my other big make-at-home cost save. $6 for 1-2 pounds of ground coffee, big batch brew, and boom, 25-30 cups of cold brew ready to go for the next couple weeks.
Don't worry, when I was diagnosed a few years ago, I was completely overwhelmed as well. I completely ignored Metformin to this day and live a healthy life, so good on you. Diet is all you need, however depending on the person, Metformin maybe a requirement.
GLYCAEMIC INDEX
The main thing you need to look out for, are slow release foods. These foods release slowly into the bloodstream and help your body deal with the carbs much easier.
When I started out, I used the glycemic index table to find the right food.
The GI table goes from 0-100, Fruit Roll-Ups for example have a GI of 99. 99 Is really bad and should be avoided because it releases fast into the bloodstream. I usually focus on foods with a maximum GI of 55.
Again, this is me, every diabetic is unique and you must test every time, before and after every meal.
If you live in the EU, check out these downloadable lists.
If you live in America, check out this website.
Weigh absolutely everything, before you cook your meal. Know the amount of carbs you eat per meal. When I started out, I focused on eating as few carbs as possible, between 10-20 carbs per meal. Again, this is me, there are other diabetics out there that eat that amount within a day.
Experiment, see what your body can handle. I recommend to go really low on the carbs until you get your sugar down to normal.
My meals usually consist out of beans in general, kidney beans or chick peas, vegetables and meats etc. I was able to bring my sugar down from 300 to normal range within three weeks.
Just to give you a basis, it takes me around 3-4 days to finish an entire 200g can of kidney beans.
FOODS I RECOMMEND
They are a little more carb heavy, around 30 carbs for 6 oatcakes, but are quite nice when you want a snack.
I will probably update the list, should I remember more.
WHEN TO EAT
It is recommended to wait at latest four hours after your last meal, before you eat your next meal. Check your sugar at around 2 hours after the meal.
You don't have to eat full blown meals every four hours, but a couple of carbs should suffice. Again, every diabetic is different, I can eat nothing for 10 hours and my sugar is fine.
EXERCISE
Go to the gym or walk every day, get active and lose weight, especially in the stomach area.
DRINKS
Stop drinking beer and any alcoholic beverage with a colour. Vodka has 0 carbs per shot and you can drink it in moderation. Don't forget to eat a couple of carbs when you drink.
I must admit, I consume a lot of diet drinks and should really cut down on them. I recommend you to do the same, so you decrease the appetite and sweet tooth that comes with it.
INGREDIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR
It is very important to become an ingredient Nazi. Any product that has;
Ditch it all, do not buy.
Even wholemeal breads come with sugar and mixtures of white flour. I'm lucky that my local Aldi store sells 100% wholemeal bread. Try to find the same. A lot of packed peanuts have sugar as well, even pickled cucumbers.
Always cook fresh and ditch the instant stuff, it's all bad.
ALLOW YOURSELF A TREAT
It is ok to treat yourself now and again. Once you get your sugar down to normal and work out, you can have a glass of wine etc. I ate an Oreo biscuit the other day, although I regret it, that motherlover had over 10 carbs.
END
You'll be fine, don't you worry. Test your sugar rigorously, learn what you can eat and whatnot and after a while, you can manage everything with ease.
Feel free to always send men a PM or ask the folks on /r/diabetes.
Apologies for any spelling mistakes, English isn't my first language.
Look here's what I do:
Amazon Link
Amazon Link
Maybe there is a better flavorless protein out there but I can't find on, and this has worked pretty well.
Amazon Link
This is a box with a fuckton of oats in it.
I pour a bit of milf into the bottle (to avoid clumping) and grind 1 cup of oats with the coffee grinder then pour them into the bottle.
Then depending on the amount of protein you need put a couple scoops into the bottle. Then toss your creatine in there. I don't put bananas in the shake but you could, I'd probably have to use my blender for that though.
Anyway now you have a bottle with a shit ton of powder in it. Add some more milk but save room for:
Chocolate syrup. (or whatever type of flavoring you want) I put a bunch in there, like 2 big squirts, but find out however much you need to make it taste good.
Then I take a big scoop of peanut butter and toss it in there. I'm not sure how much I put in but I'm pretty consistent, just be consistent. I think it's between 2 and a half and 3 tablespoons. Add milk till it's mostly full. Then shake the shit out of the bottle like you were trying to jerk off the demon from This is the End. The shake will be thick as balls so just open your throat and chug it Remy laCroix.
Wow, look at all that protein, look at all of those calories you got (1k +) without drinking a disgusting weight gainer.
This is what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/Steel-Cut-Oats-Pound-Bag/dp/B0096S6OX4/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7K2S1QPAKPT97666HZWV
For some reason the bag and brand appeared different when it arrived.
Protein shakes with some almond milk are pretty easy.
I know there are some 'overnight oats' type things with hemp hearts and chia seeds. I just never found any recipes for them that I liked (but I'm lazy and only tried two).
There's also a fake oatmeal that I really like off Amazon. It's not cheap- like $2/serving, but it's quite satisfying. I got the strawberries and cream and the cinnamon spice, but I love the strawberries and cream so much, I haven't tried the cinnamon spice yet.
Good luck! I'm sure more folks will chip in.
Not sure if they still sell them at grocery stores but they have them on Amazon!
Every morning I make a bowl of oatmeal.
This is the one I like bc it also has flaxseeds which supposedly also helps supply. Then I add brewer's yeast. For flavoring you can add whatever dried fruits and nuts you like.
Quaker Simple & Wholesome Organic Multigrain Hot Cereal, Oats with Barley, Buckwheat, Rye & Flaxseed,
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TCXBB5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Lqs3Bb6E5JDAN
Then I do whatever can be eaten with one hand for snacks. Beef sticks. Lara bars. Corn dogs. Smoothie packs (buy frozen fruit in bulk, portion into reusable containers with scoop of green powder or protein powder or choice, I like amazing grass bc it doesn't have parsley which apparently in high amounts can fuck your supply.)
Leave water bottles everywhere. I had a stash in every room so that I always had it available.
Oh! And coconut water! I also make a "milk tea" beverage using a lactation tea (I'm currently drinking the organic milk makers one in original) and coconut milk with some barley malt syrup to sweeten!
Less than $20 for 100+ servings of oatmeal on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002UT5H3E
This brand also makes delicious instant oatmeal that has less sugar than regular oatmeal. This is my favorite flavor: http://www.amazon.com/Dr-McDougalls-Right-Foods-Organic/dp/B000FFLTAK
Buy some :)
Your search is over!
what? this is what i eat: http://www.amazon.com/Quaker-oats-fashioned-servings-10-lb/dp/B002UT5H3E
Prepackaged oatmeal, like Quaker brand, is processed rolled oats, which are oats without the husks. Check out steel cut oats, which are just chopped up whole oats. Way more nutrition out of those babies.
No am I not being paid by Bob's Red Mill lol. I just really like their oats and bulgur and I can get them on Amazon. Wish I could get a sponsorship.

Quaker C&S - Amazon
Every night I have a base of either quinoa or rice, prepared in my rice cooker with various vegetables and spices. If rice, I'll roll it up with nori for homemade veggie rolls.
With dinner I have a 12 ounce glass of water with two tablespoons of flax and one tablespoon of chia.
I buy my pinto beans and black beans loose in bulk at the local grocery store when picking up my vegetables, usually around 5 or 6 pounds of each at a time.
Cumin, garlic powder, tahini, and dry garbanzo beans go for a good homemade hummus in a food processor. Needs a fresh lemon or two squeezed into the tahini. Original recipe had olive oil and salt, I leave out the oil entirely and either cut the salt down to a dash or none at all.
I keep oats and almond meal on hand to make pdb cookies with the same food processor, just add a banana or two, cinnamon, nutmeg, almond butter, and raisins if you like. The original recipe called for dates and I said eat me I'm doing raisins.
I got peppermint in bulk to make tea with, both by itself as well as mixing with chamomile, mugwort, etc.
I keep almost all of the above in these convenient cereal containers to both extend shelf life, shelf space, and remove any branding or advertising. Mason jars are also awesome!
Don't forget you can dehydrate your own food as well!
Edit: I don't work for Amazon, I just live no-car and order like this to survive!
Your body won't be able to tell if you're getting calories from solid foods or liquid. It will use the macros the same.
Just like most of Rich's fans can't tell what is muscle and what is synthol on him.
But seriously, there are far better YouTubers to follow over Rich.
Shakes are great. Convenient and very easy to make. Mine is simple.

I received my order of 10 lbs of oatmeal and 240 bags of Bigelow green tea for under 40 bucks. I eat/drink both daily, so it was convent and the tea was much cheaper than the grocery store. I typically stock up on oatmeal when it is on sale, so not sure how much/if I saved any money there.

So I know there were people talking about store's not having them. Does amazon do food in the UK? Here's a link the the US one http://www.amazon.com/Quaker-Instant-Oatmeal-Dinosaur-8-Count/dp/B001M0AKE8
I may order a few boxes on my next shipment of junk!! I remember the oatmeal with the flavor jam you would swirl into the top. Oh sometimes the best way to wake up in the morning!

The easiest is probably to get better tasting oatmeal. If you're eating quaker's, it's only uphill from there. Quaker's has a muddy texture and tastes like cardboard tbh.
Here's what I get from my local Costco for about $6 per 5 lbs (http://www.amazon.com/Coachs-Oats-Whole-Grain-Oatmeal/dp/B005EL6VOY). It has a "pop" to it texture wise, and has a nutty after taste.
Did they have dinosaur eggs in them?
That oatmeal with the gummy dinosaur eggs. Not that I go oatmeal shopping a lot but every time I looked they were nowhere to be found. Kinda like dunkaroos which would also be on my list of things to bring back.
For some reason that came to me without hesitation, maybe I've deeply repressed my cravings for those for about 15 years, and if I ever find them in the store again I'm buying every box.
Here's a box on Amazon

Is this https://www.amazon.com/Malt-Meal-Original-Wheat-Cereal/dp/B007NZBVTE?th=1 the one you are referencing? When I googled Malt-O-Meal, it popped up with a variety of cereal options.
Yes they do. They even sell it on amazon. :)

Here is where I buy mine: Bob's Red Mill Oats Steel Cut, 24-Ounce (Pack of 4)
You do know you can buy Dinosaur Egg oatmeal from your local Ralph's, right?
Amazon I bought a bag. I eat 100g every morning. That's around 220 servings or 220 days. Around 26 cents a meal not including milk or whatever you add.
Look for this guy.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002UT5H3E/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/191-5526956-7685844#

I guess they do make it
100+ servings of breakfast. $18
https://www.amazon.com/Malt-Meal-Original-Wheat-Cereal/dp/B007NZBVTE
No problem! You can definitely use all oatmeal, we just prefer the texture that the combination gives.
Rolled Oats are simply the whole oat, while oatmeal is the whole oat flaked or processed into small pieces. Here are Rolled Oats on Amazon and oatmeal would just be that ground a bit finer.
Hope that helps!

Says 1/4 cup is 170 cal. Not sure what oats you're looking at, but most irish/scottish/steel cut oats match those nutritional values.
I actually spent 20 minutes searching for stores in australia that sell this stuff, but there aren't even any google australia results that are about the product. If you're serious about trying it (just for fun maybe) your best bet is on Amazon
So, this? http://smile.amazon.com/Quaker-oats-fashioned-servings-10-lb/dp/B002UT5H3E/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1462913380&sr=1-7&keywords=oatmeal
I've seen packets of cream cheese at Harris Teeter in the bakery section.
A Spam single, cheddar cheese, mustard, and mayo on a tortilla has high-key become my fave lunch.
Whenever I have oatmeal for a hot breakfast in colder weather, I always buy Dino Eggs and get super-excited about them.

Instant Pot Oatmeal- so easy! Recipe from my site- https://veggiechick.com/instant-pot-oatmeal/
INSTRUCTIONS
Yea, that is way too long to wait. I'm always in a rush in the AM. From what I've read, steel cut is no different than rolled oatmeal, except rolled has a slight bit more fat (a whole .5g more). Everything else, including fiber, is the same. So I guess I'm just gonna search for some decent organic instant oatmeal. Perhaps Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Instant Oatmeal or Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Organic Instant Oatmeal, Light Apple Cinnamon I'll see what Henry's Farmers Market has available.
Nah, of you're an American resident and desperate enough you can get them off Amazon or Wal-Mart.
Turns out Quaker was pretty accurate with their representation of eggs in dry wall
mmm, yeah I probably was being a little silly. So I assume these are fine?
https://www.amazon.com/Quaker-oats-fashioned-servings-10-lb/dp/B002UT5H3E?th=1
Its this stuff.
It’s like cream of wheat. I’m lactose intolerant so I use water to make it.
Lol, 4.5 stars and bajillion reviews for this stuff on Amazon
Well, these are the first non-Quaker oats I've ever had, and I don't have the package. Here's a link. I don't actually know what steel cut are like, but these have an awesome texture. They cook just as fast as Quaker's instant - I just use the scalding hot water out of our water coolers at work and they're ready in less than a minute. Better flavor and texture than Quakers by far.
Here's the flashback to my childhood

4 boxes is $28 same day delivery. Idk why this thread is full of people saying they can find cheaper items locally vs amazon but that’s not the case for me. I’ve never run into fake or expired items but I don’t doubt it however you all are shilling this anti amazon message for what?
