This Rhino 5200

Get yourself some of the nylon labels and go nuts. Nylon is better at being wrapped around cables in my experience, plus resists unwrapping to heat like the plastic labels. I've used this thing in two different jobs now and I cannot recommend another. So many options.

Just wear some good sunscreen and maybe a nice hat :)

No need to be afraid of the sun, just informed and protected. You can order UV cards to help you determine what SPF should be worn:
https://www.amazon.com/Sun-Meter-UV-card-Plastic/dp/B003P645CU?th=1

I give them to my students as a gift when we talk about this.

I'm pretty sure the last few P-Touch tape cassettes I received from Amazon were fakes. Definitely don't stick like the real thing.

> Also the label maker allows a lot of wastage of the tape from both the sides.

No argument there. Even adjusting the hidden setting for margins doesn't eliminate wasted tape.

> these tapes fall off due to mild heat behind the Rack

Tried TZe Extra-Strength Adhesive?

u/protruding_ears · 7 pointsr/shittykickstarters

The should be able to deliver the product, you can get the same thing just not in bandaid form for less than $2 on amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/Sun-Meter-UV-card-Plastic/dp/B003P645CU/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_121_bs_lp_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QYB8KSMYC0YH5K6QHTRK

However, holy photoshop batman. Compare their still images of the product (no visible clear sticker) with the video (ugly ass clear bandage)

I meant you can buy one of these: "Heat shrink tube printer" Look up heat shrink tubing, then think of printing directly to it and shrinking the labels on to your individual conductors. Also there is nothing stopping you from using a standard book of cable markers and put them on by hand. All of these things and more are available at your local electrical supply house. I personally use no less than five different print methods for the electrical and electronic work I do.

Hello fellow racers,

(TL;DR down below)

This build was done in over the course of two days and roughly 21 minutes. Mostly due to other obligations but some planning and testing was done.

The labels I printed myself on a DYMO LT-100H, I also ordered an off brand pack of extra colors to bring some life to the project. The “button box” is a ROTTAT 22-key Numeric Keypad and was the most expensive part of the project.

In the little time that I’ve used it so far I enjoy the mechanical nature of the keys. Since I wear headphones when I play I like that I can feel when I’ve pressed the key. It adds a little extra pizzazz if you will and gives it a seemingly heavier stroke. The biggest con is programming it to the game, some of the keys are not usable with num-lock on/off. So it took some thinking to determine what I would want for the different “states” that I could enable with the num-lock key.

TL;DR $48.26 if you already own scissors, it’s cool so far and I’m happy with it.

I use BMC chisels; these lines were made with a 0.4mm one. As I guide I use a combination of things depending on the line. To start I use a small clear ruler and micron pen to sketch out the lines until I get a design I like. Then I use one of the following methods depending on the surface and length:

  • for long lines that need to be at specific angles I'll make sure to mark two points with the marker and then place dymo labeling tape to guarentee I have a straight line. Then over that I put the actual guide which is dymo embossing tape.. Then I scribe. An example of this is the moderate and long vertical lines on the shield. I started with the 4 short diagonal lines which gave me the two points on each side to base the vertical lines on. Each side then used a single set of dymo tapes so that they would align with each other (the lower and higher lines).

  • for moderate lines at easier angles (i.e. right angels) I'll use just the dymo embossing tape over making a line with the marker.

  • for short lines (<4mm) I'll free hand it.

  • for lines around edges which I want to be symmetrical I'll do use a combination of the labeling and embossing tape. The embossing tape can't really round edges because it's too thick, but the labeling tape is too thin to really guide the scribe well. So I use the labeling tape to wrap around the part, guaranteeing the angle. Then I use a single piece of embossing per side of the angled surface. If I need to I'll do the little bit of the corner left using the scribed lines on either side to guide me, so mostly free handed because it'll be such a small surface.

TL;DR BMC Chisels, Dymo Embossing/Labeling tape, ruler, micron pen, and

This Patch panel is wall mounted just like yours, and has 12 spots available. It's hard to tell how many cables you have exactly but that would be a good start.

You would mount it just like the one in your picture, but it would give you an ethernet port on the front. You would take those ethernet ports and attach them to a switch with a CAT5e or above cable.

The tools you'll need to do this are:

  • Ethernet tester - This is to test the ethernet cables you create to make sure they're correct.

  • Punchdown tool - This is to punch the wires down to the patch panel I linked above.
  • Labeler - Realistically you can use a sharpie and just write the names on the wires. Don't buy a $200 labeler unless its something you'll use often, I just wanted to give an example of what I use.
  • Analog wire toner - Use this if you need to find the wire in that rats nest.

You would realistically cut all the wires off the block and use the above tools to make them into ethernet ports.

I got this label maker and these refills. The refill tapes seem to be lasting a long time. I’m not even through half of the first wheel.

Can vouch for the Dymo Rhino line, though I have the 4200. I can also vouch for the offbrand tape Amazon sells for it: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B073PNSDXR/

Do yourself a favor and only buy the nylon tape. The vinyl tape will turn into a sticky mess and fall off your cables from the exhaust heat on the servers. I used to stock vinyl for labeling the fronts of servers, but changing the tape (and making sure everyone else did) between different labeling tasks wasn't worth the cost savings even before I found the cheaper off brand tape.

We use Brother, Flexible ID Tape 1"

They're designed specifically for wrapping around cables. Use the P-touch software to design/print the labels... works best for proper orientation, font size, etc.

They work great, reasonably priced. Other laminated tapes tend to split in the cold conditioned air of a data center...

u/toasterovenly · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I own this exact label maker.

I think what you really want is one of their newer label makers that use the same label tape. That white tape is TZe-231. I was actually going to replace the labels with TZe-131, which is black on clear, to show off the carts better since they aren't in a box anymore.

u/clickclickbb · 2 pointsr/cableadvice

There's a bunch of different types of P-touch tape available. Have you tried the flexible cable wrap tape from Brother? It works pretty good and if you're making flags they are easier to work with. Its not as stiff as the regular stuff and seems to stick better. This is what Ive been using for years and it works great. Theres also the Extra Strength tape. We've used this before for labeling panels and racks and its actually hard to get off. Its been awhile so I dont remember how stiff it is.

It's the weekend! And I need to start packing for our move later this month :) That's why these labels would be super awesome. So I can keep track and get organized during our transition ;)

Also, welcome back!!

u/karmic_chameleon · 2 pointsr/Etsy

So, I know you specified that you want a cheap method, but I'm putting this out there for others that are reading as well. A DYMO thermal printer & the labels are so easy to use and they save me a ton of time. After I finally stopped hand-writing addresses on each envelope, I tried the print & tape method but it's inefficient and a pain in my ass.

Having had much frustration in the past with laser printers I was hesitant, but the little DYMO has led me to once again have faith in printers. It is thermal, so there's no ink allowing you to print and stick immediately.
No I don't work for DYMO. I'm sure there are other thermal printers that work just fine but this is the only one I've used. Labels are affordable as well.

Side note: If you aren't printing labels through Etsy, you're missing out on postage discounts for national orders. In the US, anyway.

Good luck! It is fun customizing this kit. Tbh, i did blank out at the thigh armor. Didnt know what to do there lol.

Well, im not a pro or anything. Im still new at this but heres what i did and what i learnt from other more experienced modeller:

  1. Keep your knifes sharp so that it will be easier, safer, and more precise.

  2. Use dymo tape, a flexible sturdy plastic tape as a guide to your panels. I didnt use this cause its hard to find it where im at during that time (i free handed my panels but i wish i had this).
Heres what u/---jon--- suggested to me in one of my post.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FK7LM3Y/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1547003964&sr=4&pf_rd_p=86fc8483-fe35-48e7-bed5-16d558a7e2db&pd_rd_wg=pJpMg&pf_rd_r=V1QFDJDAFQJ906FYE9T9&pd_rd_i=B07FK7LM3Y&pd_rd_w=G5xZe&pd_rd_r=5b0799e1-b024-4420-b6d0-05e5a1c6e346&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65

  3. Apply light pressure for each strokes to make the panels. This is to prevent mistake lines be too deep and hard to fix. Also so that you can maneuver and control your lines better.

  4. Dont rush. Take things slowly. Yea it will be tiring. But the result will be worth it :) take a rest and continue later.

  5. You can sand stray lines to fix it. (thats why mine looks matte and have kinda texture. Its because i sand it and didnt bother yet to coat it. I kinda like it this way tho but it looked unfinished lol.

  6. Kinda same as 4 but take your time and rest when you are tired. I always push myself cause im too excited and the result is not amusing to say the least.

You should look into a portable label maker for marking those cables. That way you can print from-to and any other details you may need.

this is the tape we use on outdoor industrial equipment.

Not sure what you can actually do with this cable, but it claims to be compatible with your device.

Edit:
http://www.penguin.cz/~utx/hardware/USB_Mini/#usb_mini-b_receptacle

It looks like your device has a combo USB mini A/B port! I've never seen it before. It can perform as a client, or a host.

A quick search came up with this replacement cable:
https://www.amazon.com/Instruments-compatible-Titanium-Graphing-Calculators/dp/B00PSTN09G

This cable should work. I lost mine and bought it as a replacement for my Ti nspire. Since the nspire and the ti-84 plus both use the same cable, you should have no problems.

Edit: the cable you mentioned should also work. The cable that comes with your calculator is nothing special. It's just a normal USB to mini-B cable.

There are books of wire labels. This one has A-Z & 0-15 you can use the them (1 or 2) to mark the wires accordingly

One of the Brother P-Touch label makers that will do rotate repeat for cables. And the TZ tapes are pretty reasonable. If you will be labeling wires buy this.

There are different models of the Brother P-Touch labelers and they do different things, you should be able to find the differences online.

For XL, I figured it cost too much to save a few dollars on off brand ones and I don't ship an insane amount

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U729QK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For Turbo, never had an issue with these

Why not something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J3WQ360/ref=dp_cerb_2 and this label roll: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DCI3QE/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I'm sure you will find plenty of other uses for a label maker once you have one, but yeah the Rhino 6000 is kinda pricey.

Brother also makes a PC connectable label maker that you can pull data from an excel spreadsheet to get your label names. But its around $70

Could be bad genetics? Nature isn't perfect, and sometimes it makes mistakes.

I didn't mean to accuse, just didn't know if he was a rescue or a pet store dragon.

If your are concerned about your UVB tube (Remember, if it screws into a light socket, it's not suitable for this species!!), then just make sure you replace them every 6 months. We have started to use these to test if a bulb is a dud from the get go. Haven't owned them long enough to tell if they indicate a bulb slowly dying off well...

> I follow a reptile rescuer once and she was concerned about why an MBD chameleon wasn’t improving and she has a solar meter and checked the bulb and it was NEW and turned out to not be giving off UVB... terrifying.

This is why I want to look into offering a UVB monitoring device. You can buy the chip for like $3, so you just need a micro controller to interface with it and display results. Project for the future though....

My cheapest item on my personal list is this label machine tape Seriously - who doesn't like to label things!? :)

u/Drak3 · 1 pointr/homelab

maybe try something like this? I bought some a while ago, and sorta tested them out a bit (still have to get around to labeling everything though), and they seem to work well, and be meant for the purprose.

u/RocketTech99 · 1 pointr/sysadmin

Please don't. It fades, rubs off, and is un-intelligible. You don't need to buy a $1000 labeling kit, but at least get something like this, this, or even this. Heck, almost anything would be better.

I'm seeing expensive options on here but in all reality all you need is a fine point pen, good hand writing, and a sticky label sheet. Or go with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ZipTape-Wire-Label-Dispenser-markers/dp/B003I7QKUQ/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1549386183&sr=8-10&keywords=cable+label+sheet
