You can use ostomy prep supplies to prevent this. I'm allergic to lots of adhesives and tend to get ulcers on my skin from contact. Whenever I have surgery or something requiring adhesive I have to use a barrier product to reduce the reaction because my body is so effing melodramatic.

Medical supply company Smith & Nephew makes Skin Prep protective barrier wipes to be applied to the skin before adhesive and allowed to dry. Make sure you apply to the entire area the tape will be attached to plus an additional margin.

To remove you carefully pull up a corner (leave one turned under if you can) and glide a Uni-Solve wipe just under the tape pulling on the tape as you wipe. You really shouldn't feel the tape coming off - the Uni-Solve should do the work. Uni-Solve is greasy feeling so you'll want to have something to wash up with.

For both a single wipe covers a large area. It's pretty expensive, my local medical supply store sells the foil packets per each so you don't have to buy a whole box of 50.

There are other brands available, this is just one I'm not allergic to. Stuff burns like a mofo if it's applied too close to an IV site - catheter has to be in before it's applied. But it's still pretty awesome stuff!

We use this uni-solve brand and it seems to work great:

Uni-Solve Adhesive Remover 8 Ounce Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E5BKVE?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/Unsoluble · 8 pointsr/diabetes

Unisolve remove wipes, or something similar. Smear one all around the edges, wait a minute or so, and it'll lift right off. (Depending on the size of the patch, might need to sort of work your way in from the outside.)

I had to dig through a million text messages to find it.

Obviously this isn't medical advice or any recommendation on fit for purpose from anyone. But I would love to hear about your experiences if you try it out.

Medical adhesive spray (http://www.amazon.com/Hollister-Medical-Adhesive-spray-7330/dp/B0002DMRBA). You need to get the remover as well (http://www.amazon.com/Hollister-Medical-Adhesive-Remover-Spray/dp/B0006ULM6U). Realize that over time, the forms will get damaged, but if you clean them well after each use they will last a while.

Without a doubt, skintac. I use this and it's perfect.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/diabetes

Same! It really helps to use adhesive barrier wipes (I use this) and applying it to the skin surrounding the site before adding the tape.

u/LillyPip · 3 pointsr/ehlersdanlos

I have issues with tape and bandages.

One of my phlebotomists once gave me a few of these orange scented adhesive remover wipes and holy moly, are they amazing! They cut right through anything.

u/MisterMcDuck · 2 pointsr/diabetes

I just recently received mine as well and have been soaking up information about it as much as possible.

I recently bought these 2 products to help with managing the sites:
[Skin-Tac Adhesive Barrier Wipes](
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NSCHY4/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1)

and Uni-Solve Adhesive Remover Wipes - 50/bx

One helps further cement the sensor to your skin, and the other helps dissolve the adhesive at the end of the week.

> skin tac

This. Apply before putting the sticker on, and afterwards just rub that stuff all over the sticker. Won't come off for a week, showers/exercise and all. No need for extra stickers on top of the sensor.

To remove without the pain, I use this on the sensor's sticker before peeling off: https://www.amazon.com/MedPlus-Services-Uni-Solve-Adhesive-Remover/dp/B000E5BKVE/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481876192&sr=8-3&keywords=uni+solve

Skin Tac works great for my FreeStyle sensor. I have to use alcohol to remove it after 14 days. I live in Florida and sweat a lot!

u/anormalgeek · 2 pointsr/diabetes

Regarding removal, try this: https://www.amazon.com/Nephew-Uni-Solve-Adhesive-Remover/dp/B000E5BKVE

Put a few drops all around the fabric part, then let it sit for a minute or two. It should peel off much easier.

I have a three year old T1 who pumps. Here is what we've learned:

  • Use Skin-Tac when installing an infusion site and it won't come off accidentally

  • Use TacAway to help remove infusion sites and CGM sites

  • Cover the CGM sensor site with IV3000 and it won't get accidentally pulled off

  • After removing a infusion/CGM site first clean it with an alcohol wipe to remove left over adhesive. Then use Neosporin or a thin film of a Zinc Oxide product like Desitin to help heal it

  • For active people, like my 3 year old, SPIbelt is a great product to hold your pump (you can even sleep with it on)

As mentioned in other posts, always have a kit with you. Your kit should contain:

  • Emergency sugar (glucose tab, cake frosting, or juice box)
  • Backup rapid acting insulin (pen or vial/syringe)
  • Glucagon
  • Your BG meter
  • Some kind of ID that you are a T1 diabetic (bracelet, dog-tag, tattoo, or id card in your wallet)

It is also a good idea to keep in your car, office, family, and friends houses an extra infusion kit (wipes, reservoir, infusion set). Train your family and friends on how to test your BG and also administer Glucagon and/or Insulin just in case you aren't coherent.

    Happy pumping!

Hey! So we just dealt with happy tail with our rescue. After about 8 weeks it's finally healed. The first vet we saw told us there was no hope and we should amputate, but we got a second opinion and worked really hard and she's all healed for now. Here's the method we used that kept the tail completely protected so she couldn't re injure it.

Foam tubing cut to size and placed over the area that's injured (the tip in our case).

Tape the tubing on with elastikon. Tape long ways and then also wrap in a spiral. This is vet tape works way better than any other kind I tried. My vet agreed. When you wrap, PLACE the tape on then pat down to stick, DO NOT stretch and wrap tightly or you will cut off circulation. I recommend removing tape after a day and checking circulation when you start until you become comfortable with your method.

Every other day, clean the wound with gauze and chlorhexidine cleanser (can find in wound care section at any pharmacy).

Medical adhesive remover to remove elastikon without ripping off all the fur. Seriously that stuff sticks really well. However, if you use it you have to wash it off and wait for fur to dry before re bandaging because the elastikon won't stick otherwise. I found that sometimes I could get the elastikon off without it by gently peeling but not always.

Derma gel on the wound before bandaging.

This method was highly vet approved (by the 2nd vet) and she was even impressed and said I did an excellent job. Our Bella had a bad case of happy tail and wouldn't heal bc she kept whacking it on everything. Once we started this method it was protected. Like I said, it took about 2 months bc hers was so bad, but it's healed now. Good luck!

Bonus pic of Bella with her tail helmet.

I get mine through the durable medical goods supplier I use since its charged as a deductible and I can use my HRA to pay for it.

Skin-Tac I easily get an extra week or two out of sensors

u/mymariah · 2 pointsr/diabetes

Yes it will stay put. We use Dexcom G5. The secret is Skin Tac. We use the liquid bottle so that after application you can put another layer over the bandage. https://www.amazon.com/TORBOT-GROUP-INC-Skin-Tac-H-Adhesive/dp/B0026745BK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1475243218&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=skin+tac&psc=1&smid=A1G2IX65IQJHUO

Thanks. I'm looking it up now - is this what you get?

It looks like it's just wipes though. How do wipes help with the adhesiveness? 0-0

u/zzsjourney · 1 pointr/MtF

When you say black rings I assume you mean fuzz/lint from the adhesive? You can try alcohol pads or something like this. I use the latter to help get the tegraderm (medical adhesive tape in using to keep them on) off of me without pulling off little bits of skin. I also it to get rid of residual adhesive if I ever notice it though I usually find that if I scrub the site with tacaway after taking off the patch I usually don't need to revisit it later.

But aren't the patches designed to release a steady amount every day for seven days? Hrm. I know there's at least one pharmacist on this subreddit but I don't remember their username!

Apparently petrolatum based stuff works well. Vaseline was okay, baby oil (mineral oil) was better, and goo gone (the blue medical version) has been the best! Although this stuff actually has better reviews on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000E5BKVE/

u/ElMalOjo · 1 pointr/diabetes

Sorry I'm late to the dance, but get yourself some SkinTac. I swear by this stuff since I wear the OmniPod, as well. By the time I need to swap out pods and sensors, it's like ripping off a fresh Bandaid - it sticks really well.

Amazon has a box for $12, but if you have insurance, go through your provider. I pay about $4 a box.

what worked temporarily for me was using some of my diabetes supplies. I had about 5 different colors of ear socks for my Flak 2.0 sunglasses and all of them looked crappy after years. it worked and lasted for probably around 2-3 weeks. they got a little tacky but nothing like it originally was. they're cheap enough to replace. YMMV.

I used Unisolve. It helps remove the adhesive on my insulin pump sites. I tried the hot water, alcohol, boiling them, dish soap and nothing removed how sticky they were. I tried this on a cotton ball and it worked.

Typically I dont need the sim patch or if I do it's the last few days

A pretty good option is 3M VetWrap. Although not exactly comfortable enough to wear all the time, I love it for activities with a higher chance of the sensor getting snagged. Or times with lots of sweat that tends to take away the stickiness of the sensor. Another thing that's worked well (and better for everyday use) is Mastisol. It's super sticky, so you'd also need Detachol to remove it when it's time for a sensor change. I'm sure it's probably similar stuff to what others have suggested here, that's just what I've found to work for me. Good luck!!

u/Jammer27 · 1 pointr/diabetes

Tac-Away always works great for me.

u/Zygodactyl · 1 pointr/ehlersdanlos

Get some siloxane spray. It dissolves adhesive easily. Apply some to a cotton tip applicator and loosen up the tape before you remove it.

Skin Tac is a liquid glue you brush on the skin and allow to partially dry before inserting an infusion set or sensor. It sticks very, very well and and insures your site will never fall off.

Personally, I use UniSolve to remove the sites. I gently wet the adhesive part of the site with it and wait about 30 seconds before pulling the site off. No muss, no fuss.

u/varys2013 · 1 pointr/asktransgender

I've been using patches for a couple of months now. I've had a couple times where one didn't stick well. There are breathable transparent patches (Tegaderm) that will cover them and hold them on well, if you get one that's not holding. Wiping the application area first with some alcohol helps. Don't apply consecutively in the same spot.

They also get a gray ring of lint or something at the edges where the adhesive is a bit exposed. It is easily removed with Hollister's Medical Adhesive Remover patches.

u/bsphair · 1 pointr/diabetes

The first time I removed a sensor, wow did that hurt. After that wonderful experience, I tried this adhesive remover. Pretty sure this is mostly just rubbing alcohol.

You could also try using a barrier. It essentially adds a layer between the sensor tape and your skin and make removing the tape easier. There are a lot of similar products like this, you can get wipes or liquid.

Barrier Wipe:

https://www.amazon.com/Cavilon-Sting-Barrier-Alcohol-Sterile/dp/B004Q6T424/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=barrier+wipe&qid=1550509018&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Definitely, if you have any questions with it let me know! They have swabs and a dabber/applier versions on Amazon depending on your preference!

u/mountopher · 1 pointr/diabetes_t1

If you’re experiencing things slipping off, try these!

skin tac amazon link

Wipe them on where you’re going to apply and it will make the adhesive better! I have a Libre attached right now with no issues, it got caught on my tee shirt a couple days ago but it’s still going strong.
