I have the following for my night runs:
Nathan Photon Vest: The LEDs are not working anymore because the design is poor, but even without the lights, it is quite reflective. I intend to replace the LEDs with something more robust. You can usually find cheaper reflective vest that are used for construction/workplace that work just as well. I am a smaller person, and the vest does not interfere with my arms.
Knuckle Lights: Wife bought me these. Didn't like them at first because they are in my hand. After using them for a while, they are not as bothersome because the strap goes around the palm. I think they provide more light than my headlamp, and I can aim the light somewhere if needed. As well, I believe that at night, people's eyes are attracted to movement of light vs a light source that doesn't move.
Petzl Headlamp: I've used several "headband" style and they all do the job. They do not move very much when running. In the end, I ended up choosing the brightest LED of the bunch.
As well, I have some specific bright yellow shirts and reflective jackets that I wear for nights. I really want to try Nike's new Flash Running Wear but they are too expensive.
EDIT: Formattting

One time in my early 20s I was swimming at the falls and got sucked over. My friend ended up pulling me up the cliff. He said he saw me pop out with blood dripping down my face and was like "oh shit her mother is going to kill me!" Cool story bro!

I am an early morning runner (I leave between 5 and 5:30am for every run). I was a little scared when it started staying dark during runs (the sun doesn't come up until about 7am now) — but I got out and tried it. You should too, before you adjust your schedule without wanting to do so.

Honestly, it's not that bad. If you feel like there's a part of your route that's going to be shady, at least go out and run it once. I recommend buying some gear for running in the dark, because it can make all the difference in how safe you feel. I wear this reflective safety vest. It has LED lights on it for even more visibility, plus a front pocket where I carry pepper spray.

In sum, you need to go out and try running in the dark if you prefer running mornings. Then you won't have to worry about messing with your schedule. Running in the dark is definitely not as bad as I anticipated it would be. Plus, if your route DOES turn out to be shady and/or dangerous, then you can either switch up your route, or as last result, change your schedule.

I got the vest and the skirt on Amazon. The skirt turned out to be a little darker than the vest. I got the shirt at a thrift store and altered it a bit.

Still looking for a suitable top. There is one by Elizabeth McKay which is a purple navy diamond ruffle blouse, but it was discontinued and it's hard to find. Here is one that sold so you can see it. It's much too purple but it's the closest thing I have found so far.
