I could write a fat page, but I am lazy.

this dude is fucking awesome

and I am still waiting for pt. 2 mofucka

I enjoyed the hell out of these posts. Made me feel good about what I was doing. Patternmaking is great and frustrating and challenging and rewarding as heck.

I started back in the day with a shitty free sewing machine, sewing by hand, and some shitty Fiskars. I have now invested in nicer equipment. Began by altering my own clothes, chopping them up and making new crappy pieces. Then I found some shirts and trousers that I liked at garage sales/thrift stores/flea markets and reverse engineered with cheap fabric from the same g.sales/thrift/flea markets. Rebuilt a cashmere topcoat, peacoat, tweed blazer and did my best to make patterns out of butcher paper and roll-ends from the newspaper factory in town. At the start, nothing ever fit me that looked good; everything that fit looked like crap. (probably a self esteem issue) I buy lots of patterns from thrift stores for mega cheap also.

I built my own dress form out of a thick hanger and a tshirt to destroy, wrapping myself with wet packing tape. Pass out from overheating and have your mom freak out, cut you out of it. Then patch it up with more tape until you have a mass that somewhat resembles an upper torso of yours.

Fixed that to a coat rack and started working on building from my patterns, tweaking it after being able to see it hung up. It's difficult to work only on the table, pinning parts to my shirt to try and get a feel for it in the mirror. Found some dress forms at an auction for cheap, so I snagged the fuckers up and oh lordy what a change from the welfare handmade version.

A great resource for me was youtube, cutter and tailor forum and the book by Dave Coffin

How I live my life is I will go forward with an idea and just go for it, rather than researching before. I'll usually result in a bloodbath mongoloid of something, then see how others do it and reattempt, which yields different results. This is probably why I haven't had a solid relationship with a girl.

I am sick as hell right now, so this might not be very good, but it's something.

Buy mailers here.

Print postage at a discount through paypal with this link after you're logged in.

Buy a scale to weigh packages if you don't already own one. Even a cheap $10-20 one from amazon or eBay, whatever.

EDIT : The USPS website is good for ordering FREE supplies as well. You'll eventually need small flat rate boxes at least. I wouldn't pay for anything through them, the markup is crazy. Amazon has 6 pack rolls of tape atm for $7 as an add-on item as well.

Amazon - Gaffer Tape

Wiki - Gaffer Tape

It's basically the go-to tape in the UK. "Hey, this is broke, recommendations?" "Gaffer Tape". Literally the first thing we go to.

u/sords · 6 pointsr/Flipping

40 yards a roll. at 50 cents plus tax (53 cents). So 1.3 cents per yard

I got these recently(For $39.xx it is now $42.75)
36 rolls at 110 yards

110 yards a roll at a little less than $1.20 per roll 1.1 cents per yard. Came in a free box, with no gasoline cost and 2 minutes of my time.

50 cents a roll is good, but if you want a bunch this is easier and slightly cheaper. $43 vs about $50 for the same qty

No worries! I've found that the brown, paper tape for shipping boxes works great.

Bix 1 doesn't have the option for flaps so I've never used them. However I can say they're generally used to reduce speed quickly when landing so they'd probably be helpful when carrying a really heavy payload. So if you wanna put on like some ridiculous 1 pound fpv transmitter that can transmit from a mile away then yeah maybe you could look into it, but for normal flying and regular fpv use, you'll be fine without them.

Also protip: get some extreme packing tape (This stuff) and put it where the control surfaces meet the wings/rudder/tail. If you don't the foam where they attach has a very high risk of breaking off, which is very bad.

This is what a lot of us use

Sparco 6 Rolls Sealing Tape, 48mm x 50m, Transparent, Heavy Duty (330ft) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005P7P9M2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_JnmkxbBKGZVGS

I tend to use snippings of cardboard I have from boxes and shipments I receive (amazon, ebay, whatever). Make a little book of cardboard to tape the coins/bars in flips or bags inside of. That then goes inside of a bubble mailer. I then tape that up very well, wholly enclosing a shipping label I generate at paypal. I use this tape copiously.

If it goes into a SFRB, or MFRB, I also use strapping tape to seal up the edges and corners.

I have never needed to ship via any method other than USPS thus far.

u/poorwhitecash · 4 pointsr/Flipping

I like the sparco tape that's somewhat popular here. Only when they go on sale for $6.99 or $7.99. No way would I pay $15. It's thick and works well enough for me. But I am not a packing tape guru. Some guys need quiet tape, etc. When on sale, these are great. https://www.amazon.com/Sparco-Sealing-Transparent-Heavy-Rolls/dp/B005P7P9M2

I bought this tape from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P7P9M2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2 bucks a roll at 164 feet/roll, and it is a little thicker tape. Works great and is a pretty good quality. I will never buy anything else again.

u/swynfor · 3 pointsr/Flipping

Heads up [Sparco] (https://www.amazon.com/Sparco-Sealing-Transparent-Heavy-Rolls/dp/B005P7P9M2/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=18C0RCRXDNG1JMYXZZTH) is on sale again at $7.97.

It typically gets posted when its on sale but I figured it wasn't worth a whole post since it's happened several times recently and most people check this thread anyway.

u/BackdoorCurve · 3 pointsr/Flipping

This sometimes goes to $7, but its a little high priced now. It's the best tape out there:

Also, the ebay branded tape is very good. If you get the ebay shipping supplies coupon, you can get a lot of tape for a good price.

Buy a scale. I got mine for $20 on Amazon and it weighs up to 75LB but also can weigh in ounces.

http://www.amazon.com/Weighmax-2822-75LB-shipping-Battery-Included/dp/B002U4OEDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426960294&sr=8-1&keywords=Weighmax

Anything under 13 oz. can ship first class for usually less than $2-4. I use poly mailers and bubble mailers for this purpose.

(I don't know if these are the best choices for your purposes, do some research on what size items you typically sell and buy mailers accordingly. These are what I buy and they fit anything from DVD's, small trinkets, and XXL jackets.)

Buy packing tape, bubble wrap, poly mailers and/or bubble mailers.

Packing tape: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P7P9M2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bubble wrap:

You print your shipping through eBay/PayPal because they give you a considerably decent discount and then can print straight from whatever printer you may have access to and tape it onto the package. It's acceptable to write it on a piece of paper and tape it, but then you have to wait in line at the post office (with prepaid labels, you can just drop it in the package drop box) and pay for tracking there.

u/gunsashands · 3 pointsr/Flipping

I've been using this tape because I saw it recommended on this sub. It gets the job done! Sometimes it goes on sale for half the price it is now.

u/caerfand · 2 pointsr/Depop

If you deal with video games, get bubble mailers and tape in bulk. I usually go through Amazon and buy bubble mailers. I also expanded to blu rays which are easy to ship as well.

Always save boxes to ship USPS priority if you need to ship something bigger then video game cases. Most things shipped 1-2 lbs should be no more than $10. AVOID FLAT RATE AND USPS/FEDEX in most instances. Unless you have something very heavy, and/or need better insurance/sig confirmation. Pretty much high value items use Fedex cause its discounted thru ebay. UPS can be used thru Amazon. Whenever I have a high value item like console or collectors edition, i usually use Fedex/UPS because it comes out to about the same as USPS with sig confirm/insurance

Always buy the shipping thru ebay/Amazon. If you do enough shipping you might want to check into Fulfillment by Amazon. Buying thru Amazon and especially ebay its cheaper. The tracking is automatically added. You can package them up on your own time and drop them off. Its the best way. Its a great feeling to be able to drop off freshly packed game and movies in a mailbox and be done. Or have USPS pick them up

This is very basic and probably has been said before but can be very valuable to starters. I honestly had to figure this stuff on my own. I cringe at the thought of buying a 1.19 bubble mailer from the post office. It adds up when your shipping materials cost .25 per item and you get a discount thru ebay and you can just drop off compared to standing in line waiting to ship the same thing for $4 plus 1.20 for the bubbler

This is the tape i use

Amazon. I like this stuff for the price.

u/MacDjinn · 2 pointsr/reddit.com

A few things:

The money/chicken dance/kitty's chest cards should be black and white, it will be much easier to print on sheets of colored paper. (Maybe OP is sending files like that? Something to consider to lower costs/improve quality of printing.)

Easiest way to package this will be to get a copy of Monopoly from a thrift store, fix up the box with some paper tape or similar. Then paint/etc on the box, print the board on a semi gloss and adhesive to the existing board and you've got a set with pieces, houses etc.

u/xwred5 · 2 pointsr/nes

So I am doing this to for Christmas. Here is what I am using. Obviously your results will depend on your printer/paper. I am not fully done, I had to order new tape this weekend.

  1. http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/images/d/dc/NES_Game_Pak_label_template.png. YOU NEED TO SET YOUR DPI AND RESCALE. If you have a 600dpi printer, this image should be 1392x2400

  2. I used these on my laser printer: https://www.amazon.com/Avery-Shipping-Printers-TrueBlock-Technology/dp/B00008XPE9/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481505784&sr=8-4&keywords=avery+laser+8.5x11 -- If you have an inkjet, you will have to research this better, this paper looks like it will bleed really bad.

  3. Laminate with clear tape. Standard tape is too narrow (1.88"), you need 3" wide. https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Performance-Packaging-54-6-Yard-307352/dp/B001PMHZVO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481505842&sr=8-1&keywords=Duck+tape+wide

Save yourself money and do not use the gorilla glue wide tape, it is cloudy with weird dots.

Print, seal with tape, cut out, apply. Add extra glue as need.

The drive manufacturers ship drives in antistatic bags with flexible plastic inserts on either end of the drive. See here. First picture under "custom solutions"

https://www.reflexpackaging.com/reflex-cushions

They use a simple, small, form-fitting box that doesn't allow the drive to move horizontally, but can flex up and down with those plastic inserts.

Surely the manufacturers have done their due diligence, it doesn't help them if the customer receives broken gear.

Personally, after inserting in an antistatic bag, I'd wrap the drive in some bubblewrap ---- enough that would prevent the wrapped drive from moving within the box. I'd use a solid box, and make sure that the seams of the box are sealed with packing tape. Use the stuff with reinforced fibers along the length (and width) --- it's much better than duct tape. In case it sits unattended in the rain, if you're careful with the box, you probably won't get any water intrusion.

https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Extreme-8959-RD-Inches-Yards/dp/B001AFKV0S

I'd also recommend that you ship the drive encrypted. There's too many places for that drive to be intercepted.

FWIW, I just use online backup.

  • /r/PMsFeedback is your friend to determining if you can trust a buyer / seller.
  • Sell to experienced users first. Expect to ship first and receive payment upon delivery.
  • Buy from experienced sellers first. You'll pay first, and then they'll ship.
  • Use caution when dealing with other new users, both buyers and sellers. They may ask you to ship first, and they never pay; or you pay first, and they never ship.
  • Use caution if something is a killer deal from a new user. If you see a killer deal from an established seller, you should feel confident you won't get ripped off.
  • Not everybody is a bad apple, but some people are.
  • If you buy or sell something worth over $1,000, ship it via Registered Mail without exception. It costs ~$25 uninsured for a Priority Mail Small Flat Rate shipping box. It'll take forever to arrive, but there's a chain of custody that tracks who carried the package from place to place. You'll need to buy reinforced paper tape to seal it. The Post Office will stamp the hell out of every border of the box to detect tampering.
  • I use a PO Box primarily because some mail has been stolen from my mailbox. Lesser motivation is to minimize the number of people who know my physical address, but that's only a concern when I buy / sell to people with no feedback.
u/palindrome_emordnila · 2 pointsr/Flipping

We use a water activated tape machine in our warehouse. If we are packing in the field we use this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PMHZVO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We probably pack a couple of thousand boxes with Duck HD a year. We've had 1 issue where the tape wouldn't adhere well in a non heated warehouse in January when it was around 15 degrees F.

You can find somewhat comparable tape cheaper in a lot of cases, but we find these to be consistently the same quality and predictable. We one swipe 50 pound 12x12x16 boxes pretty much every day with it. It's also crystal clear if you are laminating labels or water proofing.

Good luck.

u/cbiscut · 2 pointsr/rpg

Googling got me here and specifically to this bit:

> Redacting a Paper Document
>
> Before scanning the document:
>
> Cut-out (literally) all the text to be redacted and properly dispose of (shred) the clippings. This method will always be 100% effective.
>
> Use opaque (100% impenetrable by light; neither transparent nor translucent) tape or paper to cover over the sections to be redacted. Do not use plain-paper as the scanner may pick up images through the paper. Even some black paper may allow some light reflection - so be careful.

So either bust out that xacto knife and start slicing out words manually or pick up something like this and cut strips to cover the text you want redacted. Or use a glue like rubber cement or superglue, and brush it onto the back side of a piece of black construction paper you've cut out to cover the text you want redacted.

Personally, I'd cut the documents with an xacto, tape them to a sheet of black paper, and then run a copy of it and age that document using your favored method. Otherwise what you'd be wanting is a transcribed copy of a redacted document. Remember that documents were usually triplicate or duplicate so an original unredacted version went into a file somewhere, and then the cut-up redacted version was sent out to the clerks and transcribed for distribution from there. Generally by a clerk with a typewriter.

u/hawkswin1 · 2 pointsr/Silverbugs

I recommend this tape for registered. If you use a shiny tape the post office stamp won’t work. They need to stamp something over the center opening and the stamp won’t stick to clear tape.

u/Sqeaky · 2 pointsr/EDH

You might have different needs than me. I have like 30 EDH decks. I wanted cheap deck boxes that would should the commander. I wanted them to be replaceable if I wanted and sturdy enough I wouldn't often want to.

This is not for people who want deck boxes as lovingly crafted as their decks or want completely indestructible boxes that are hermetically sealed. This will repel some water, like rain or a quickly cleaned spilled drink, but not protect again submersion.

I settled on BCW 100 count boxes with a hard toploader attached with packaging tape.

50 count of boxes - https://www.amazon.com/Count-Bundle-Corrugated-Cardboard-Storage/dp/B000K3XPTA/

100 count ultrapro toploader - https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Loaders-Sleeve-Promo/dp/B002K2MNGK?th=1&psc=1

If you order each 100 at a go it will cost less than $1 per box. If you buy the stuff for one box, you might pay $2 for the box at an LGS and another dollar for the toploader. it might be worth it to buy a small pack of toploaders because they are randomly useful and I have never regretted having spares.

Add any clear packaging tape and have cheap deck boxes that show off the commander. I used Duck brand max strength ultra clear HD. No clue what my tape is doing with the extra HD pixels, but it is strong and I got it walmart for less than $5 and use it for anything that needs clear tape.

With the dispenser about $6 per roll - https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Clear-Packaging-Refill-441962/dp/B0006HX2MU

Without dispenser about $2 per roll - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GR5XCW

u/southsideson · 1 pointr/Flipping

Here doesn't really look predictable at all. It looks like 3 times its gotten cheap, also if you need a lot now, there is a 6 pack of 6 rolls, and amazon is selling them "used" which probably just means that they have some packaging damage for about $60 for 36 rolls, not the best, but still a pretty good price, especially if you need it soon.

u/imported_hard_salami · 1 pointr/running
u/mike413 · 1 pointr/DIY

Note you have to do it weeks in advance. I remember one move where I failed to do this, and drove around a while coming up almost empty-handed.

I found one thing though - if you have to buy a bunch of boxes at the last minute, Home Depot has boxes for cheap.

Oh, and one more thing: i love this tape dispenser I can pull out a length of tape with two hands, then lay in on the seam of a box in a second. I used to think the heavy duty dispensers were ok but turns out they're slow in comparison.

u/bdubble · 1 pointr/Flipping

I used to buy the Dollar Tree stuff which was a nice price and convenient, but it was pretty poor quality. I've been happy with this from amazon, which is still a good per roll price but much heavier and stickier than the Dollar Tree stuff-

Nah. Bandaids come off way before you hit 100 miles. Took about 17 for me, and I had no extras, or body glide. So, that was a rough back 14.

This is what you want. NipEaze sells the same stuff in precut circles for stuuuupid prices. This will not come off no matter how much you sweat. It also hurts a bit to take it off after the race. But it's worth it to not feel your nipple scrape your t-shirt with every step.

So, cheaper and more effective than bandaids.

Of course. Get your stuff packed up ahead of time, take your time with this, tape and cushion the tubes if they are in tubes, make sure everything is immobile, use papers or whatever to fill any void space, because these will be heavy. The green plastic monster box won't fit in any of the flat rates, so pack those with your other home items. If you want to apply the gummed craft tape shit at home to save time, this is what I'm talking about. Determine when your local post office is the least busy and try to go then, because you're about to back things up a bit. If you can pick up some registered mail forms with your flat rate boxes ahead of time, that will save you some time as well. Bring your packages in and tell the postal worker that you'd like to ship the flat rates with the registered mail service and insured. You simply declare a value and attest to the contents on the forms. USPS is pretty confident that registered mail won't get lost, so they won't need to inspect the contents unless you have a nosy or ignorant postal worker, which is possible as I've found the working knowledge of the average USPS employee to be all over the place. If you haven't already covered every seam and I mean every seam at home with that insidious, contemptible, craft tape garbage, you will have to request the tape, wet sponge and scissors at the front desk. They should have it for free, but who knows, maybe call ahead. Now get ready for some real fun. You'll probably have to move down to some unoccupied part of the counter, fumbling around like a dolt. It will take you a good while and copious profanity to apply that Satan-spawned crap at the post office, then you'll be ready to pay and ship. You may get a little grief if your desk clerk is a spindly-armed weakling, but all should go well at this point. Just get organized and prepared ahead of time, I know you've got the move to contend with, but don't cut corners here, as it will leave your custody and make its way across the country without you. JM Bullion does a [pretty good] (https://www.jmbullion.com/how-to-ship-silver-and-gold-safely/) write up about it too. A couple of tips: if you do the crap-tape at home, use a small round sponge in a shallow dish filled with water, with the sponge sitting slightly above the rim. You cut to length and glide the gummed side of that horrid tape over the wet sponge's surface and quickly apply. More is better as they take registered mail very seriously and the tape is there so that they can apply metric shit-tons of little stamps to the surface to insure that no employee breaks the seal for a peek. With four monster boxes, you're going to become top-ace at applying that awful shit. Also, only the exterior box need be taped. Go in, act like it is completely normal and get your job done. The majority of the bill will be registered mail and insurance, silver is down now, so hopefully it will be less than I remember. Try a calculator on the USPS site and get an idea. You perhaps can see now why I would drive it, but only you are the best judge for your situation. Either way, a little inconvenience to accomplish your goal. Despite what others have said I have no reservations about bullion in USPS registered mail, but ONLY registered mail. I speak from direct experience here, same process same monster boxes. Good luck my friend.

Sounds like you need a tape gun.

http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Shipping-Packaging-Dispenser-3850-ST/dp/B000FM0RT2/ref=sr_1_9?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1464186560&sr=1-9&keywords=tape+gun

That is the one I have but I do not recommend it because it has a safety mechanism that just makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be.

If you have kids around and don't plan on leaving it in a secure area then maybe you should go with the one with the safety but once you use it you will really see how annoying the safety is over how much it actually makes the gun safer.

Tape guns make taping boxes wayyyy easier too.

Nah, dude I got /u/UnidanX locked in my dungeon, only problem is I recently lost my job and so I can't afford the duck tape, I keep him tied up with, could somebody get me some more. I have just 0.0002 btc in my savings account but would happily send it in return, I know it doesn't cover the full price, but it's all I got.

I just bought this crap and am using about 4x as much. It would be cheaper to buy the pricey 3m tape. >http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WRJIGU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

>$1.16 per roll and more than twice as much as the duck brand rolls.

>The walmart duck brand rolls above =$1.50 for 110 yards which is about 30% more. You might also save on tax depending if you have an amazon location in your state, so potentially 35-40% savings

>
36 of these rolls might be a lot for some people. it's probably a 18 month supply for me, but it's one less thing to worry about

>Even cheaper:

I used a combination of Home Depot Heavy Duty Medium Boxes and Heavy Duty Extra Large Boxes.

We packed them well, mostly sideways trying not to crush boxes, with some full MTG card boxes filling in gaps. Moved them using a moving company from Eastern to Mountain time zones with zero damage. They had to unpack everything repack it all twice outside of our supervision. We ended up with a few other broken/damaged items, but all the games were fine.

The double layered boxes were definitely key for that, as multiple moving boxes ended up damaged, but nothing seemed to puncture both layers.

Also, look into some packing tape with threaded reinforcement, something similar to Scotch Extreme. The best packing in the world won't save your games if the bottom tape fails.

Not the same grade of tape. [This] (https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Performance-Packaging-1-88-Inch-441962/dp/B000GR5XCW/ref=sr_1_23?srs=2590846011&ie=UTF8&qid=1505823299&sr=8-23) is.

SPARCO can vary in quality as others have said. Usually it's very good.

That's not the good stuff though. The good stuff is the Duck brand shipping tape. I get it on Amazon.
