I love Metal Gear... and I already have two collections:

Metal Gear: The Essential Collection released in 2008 (this one was criticized by some for not including the Gamecube remake, but rather including a PS1 disk)

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection released 2011 (again avoids any remake of MGS1 or GCN port, also leaves out Portable Ops: is basically MSG2, 3, and Peace Walker)

Is this a new thing? Release a random collection of MG games every 3 years? If there's an HD remake of the original Metal Gear (a la, the project they shut down) and MG2.. along with a port/remake of the GCN version - that would be worthwhile I guess.

If it's HD-collection redux with slightly "more HD" versions of the previous games....? I can't see them having done proper remakes in this time frame. Previous HD collection + Ground Zeroes? Same issue.

Rune Factory 4 | Metacritic (78/8.0) | 3DS - $39.99 USD

---

> Rune Factory 4 is a game I always wanted to try, but never got around to justifying the $40 price tag. Luckily after a few trades in at the local game store a fresh copy happened to be traded-in by someone else and I was able to snag it half off.

> A fun game, and true to its predecessor’s tagline, “A fantasy Harvest Moon”. The game focuses on farming, monster raising, and dungeon crawling. Though the curve is a little weird to get used too, I felt I very quickly pushed to level 50 in the first act, all within the first Spring. Then quickly became underpowered with less than 49 levels and two out of three acts to go. Perhaps it is because the RPG portion feels a little forced. For me, I think the game really shines in relationship building mechanics, and managing your status with the townspeople. The farming feels familiar, and is very similar to Harvest Moon, however, the monster raising portion is odd. You can essentially just grab the Cow, Sheep and Chicken monster and be set, the “item” monsters and plants which spawn weapons and armor are something I have yet to exploit in detail, but they did add their own flavor to the game. Additionally the crafting mechanics for cooking, forging and sewing are fun, and interesting, though the actually interaction that goes on during the doing of such action is not noticeably stimulating. Overall I think if you enjoy Harvest Moon you will enjoy this game. If you do not, this game probably will grab you with a 35:65 ratio.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable | Metacritic (89/9.0) | PSP - $19.99 USD

---

> I recently decided the Persona franchise was one which I felt deeply remorseful in having missed. As such, due to my recent acquisition of a used PSP in great condition, I decided to start with Persona 3 Portable, as I have heard very little about Persona 1 or 2. Additionally, I have heard that the first two games in no way, other than elements and mechanics, relate to 3 and 4.

> So Persona 3 Portable, an interesting game, it plays very much so like a point and click style game on the PSP, with a strong resemblance to typical Visual Novel games. However, this true with the exception of the combat portion of the game, this part of the game is essentially dungeon crawling and is done in an isometric fashion. Though combat itself does not seem to be anything too shockingly different from standard ATB. Though, similar to the previous statement, there is an exception, more so involving some of the finer mechanics used.
> This includes Personas, which can be thought of as both a Summon and a piece of equipment, similar to FFX-2's garment system or Golden Sun's Djinn system, in which the Summon equipped defines your abilities. Additionally there is the fact that there is a huge focus on weakness and critical strikes, which not only do more damage but allow you to simply just do more. I spent roughly ten hours grinding the in this game, it was quite fun, though repetitive.

> Now you may be asking, why the grind? Well, suffice to say the game takes place in largely two different worlds, one is essentially a visual novel experience, balancing school and after school activities, basically playing the life of a Japanese High School student as depicted in most anime. In this world you build relationships, which can strengthen your Personas, and advance plot points. The other world is essentially a dungeon crawler, you are attempting to scale a dungeon of some XXX amount of floors, but can only do it so often, before tiring or getting sick. I would say the high school life simulator portion is far more interesting than the dungeon portion.

> However, after consulting some FAQs, all I can say is that to perfect this game, there is a very stringent order to how you perform certain tasks, things that you must do and not mess up. Additionally, as fun as this game is, I had to put it down. I'll describe this a bit more in the next section.

Shin Megami Tensei:Persona 3 FES | Metacritic (89/9.0) | PS2 - $16.16 USD

---

> Now, FES, is what I am currently playing. After consulting the aforementioned guides I found out that the FES release was a PS2 version which included a story expansion, and had all the cut scenes displayed in both the character cut-in visual novel style, and the 3D model style at the same time. Far more immersive than the Portable version in my opinion. Additionally FES has far more animated cut scenes, essentially anime. The tradeoff however is no female options for the protagonist, a purely portable feature, and far stricter requirements to perfecting the game such as tiring during trips to the aforementioned dungeon portion, rather than after.

> All in all, thus far I prefer this version leagues over the portable version.

---
Insurgency | Metacritic (74/8.5) | Steam - $14.99 $7.49 USD

---

> After reading the post this week by one dedicated submitter here on /r/games, I decided to download this game and give it a try. My experience thus far has been great. I absolutely love the game, and it definitely has filled in the gap I felt from a lot of the shooters in my library. The realistic approach and game types offered a very fresh and extremely fun. Quite honestly, I could do no justice in my description of the game itself, and suggest you look at the aforementioned thread for more detail, found here, but I can say I get the same feeling playing Insurgency now, as I did playing Call of Duty 4 in its prime.

---
Strike Vector | Metacritic (73/8.1) | Steam - $11.99 $4.79 USD

---

> Another free weekend game, I had been keeping my eye on this game earlier this year, but it eventually dropped off my radar. I probably would not have even given it a try if I was not looking for Insurgency’s installer for the free weekend.

> A fun flight combat game. Reminds me of a PS2 game I played when I was younger, I think it might have been Macross? Regardless, it’s a blast, fast combat, versatile weapon choices and cool ships. My only complaint though is lag was definitely an issue in my experience with people rubber banding, and teleporting around, something I haven’t suffered in my other games. This just may have been due to a lack of any nearby servers. However, in the end I felt it was worth the $5.00 USD price tag, and can see myself poking my head in every now and then.

---
Nosgoth | Metacritic (?/5.8) | Steam - $4.99 $2.49 USD

---

> Again, while looking for the installer for Insurgency I saw this game, and after playing Strike Vector I decided it might also be another fun game. Not so much. From the store page I was expecting something similar to the old Free-To-Play game Rakion. (Which if anyone knows where I can play that game now, let me know.) Instead it felt like a very poorly balanced arena fighter with a Dungeon Defender combat system. Quite honestly I thought it was poorly done, but looked fantastic. I would not highly recommend it to anyone in the future.

PS2 version. It's really good and has high replayability. If you end up liking it on PS2, then you will probably end up buying the Vita re-release and appreciate the graphics and added content more. If you don't have any other games on your plate, I definitely recommend buying it and playing it now. I'ts $20 on Amazon.

would you get a ps2? i should be ashamed how many times ive bought the megaman series. I rebought x4 and x5 yesterday just to play on my vita, since they were on sale. I've got a problem.

u/idownvoteallposts · 8 pointsr/Gaming4Gamers

I just got the MegaMan Anniversary Collection for like $13 and it has all of the main games for NES, 7 from Snes, 8 from PSX, and the Power Battle arcade games. I can't imagine playing them with a touch screen, but the Anniversary Collection has sooooo much content for so cheap it's ridiculous!

u/dangersandwich · 8 pointsr/Games

You can either play them chronologically in the order in which the games were released (I recommend this), or play them chronologically in the order in which the story occurs. Either is fine but definitely do not skip the original Metal Gear Solid.

My recommendation is to buy either:

  • Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for PS2, which contains MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3, then buy MGS4 for the PS3, or

  • The original PS1 Metal Gear Solid + Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PS3 which contains MGS2, MGS3, and MGS:PW, then buy MGS4 for the PS3.

I don't know about you, but I find it difficult to start from newer games going into older games because you get "spoiled" by the updated combat mechanics of the newer games, which could make playing the older games more tedious. If you play the older ones first, you'll appreciate the better combat mechanics of the newer games. Having said that, I think that Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Gamecube isn't as clunky as the original since it's a remake. TBQH with you, though, it's probably not as bad as you might think.

You could buy replacement sticks like these
but you need to open the controller to replace them.

or you could order "grips" like these that slide over the old ones.

i just bought These for my ps4 controller and love them, but be warned they ship from the UK and it took like 2 weeks for them to get here.

u/II_F0XH0UND_II · 5 pointsr/CodAW

If having specialized gaming hardware is cheating, then gaming headsets (stereo or surround), gaming monitors (low input / fast response), and expensive networking equipment are also "cheating."

I don't, and wouldn't, fault someone for wanting to have the very best unless it was brazen game hacks. I'd also like to say that Call of Duty in the past sold specialized controllers that included some of the same features as a SCUF. FPS oriented controllers also existed for consoles before the Xbox 360. My first run in with one was the original Xbox. I thought it was super cool.

brooks super converter

plug in the conveter to the ps2 then you connect the controller via usb first to the conveter to register its bluetooth address, then you power the conveters wireless receiver with usb power from the ps2.

press the ps button and synced, works perfectly.

There's a ps4 to ps2 adapter you can get. In my opinion it's the best wireless controller option you can get. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07543W7XS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3.3PDbYGWDXT6

Take it from me, as I feel unbiased. There are always going to be asshats that will tell you that "You aren't a true fan" because you haven't done exactly what they've done.

It is true that the Persona games are easier than the Mainline-SMT+DDS+DS, but that doesn't mean it isn't a part of SMT as a whole, most people who enjoy SMT started at persona.

The easiest way of describing why persona is seen as easier can be summed up in 2 ideas

Expel/Death skills hit MUCH more often

Kaja/Kunda skills take 4 casts instead of 1 to get the same effect, are removed more often, and are pretty much essential to beating any given boss fight.

That being said, persona is a fantastic game, don't be ashamed for liking it

tl;dr Persona is easier, not inferior

also, if you liked persona, it's a better idea to jump in on other PS2 games, starting at Digital Devil Saga

u/BluestreakBTHR · 4 pointsr/halo

The best version of the game.

If you can find it, get the FPS Master Controller. I had one - it was the best.

Wii has Megaman 9 and 10, which are fun, but the originals are so much better.

If you have a playstation 2, gamecube, or Xbox, I would definitely recommend getting Megaman anniversary collection it has Mega Man 1-8 and two arcade mega man games which are so much fun.

If you don't have a PS2 but have a PS3 you would be able to download some of the mega man games from PSN I know they have some of them as PSOne classics, though I believe they are in japanese.

If you enjoy that, and have a PS2 or Gamecube, then I would recommend getting Mega man X collection which is like Mega Man classic, but updated graphics, upgradeable weapons, wall climbing, dashing, and on X4 and up multiple characters, it includes megaman X1 - X6, and has a megaman racing arcade game.

Mega Man Legends, Mega man Legends 2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne are by far my favorite, though they would be hard to find and very pricey, but you could get lucky and find the first MML on PC. I got lucky and got Megaman Legends, and Legends 2 as a kid, and still own them. I used to own Misadventure of Tron Bonne, but stupid childhood me traded it into funcoland..

You have made a great decision to get into mega man games, definitely my favorite series, I have beaten them all multiple times.

I use a Wireless Ps3 Controller(can be Ps4) [using this adapter] (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07543W7XS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_L3TSDbB59ZDW2)

It's a little pricey, but much better than dealing with that crappy Logitech Controller. I think it's worth it considering it's a one time purchase.

u/RayCharlizard · 3 pointsr/PS4

If that PS2 turns on, you can play DMC3 for $28 + tax and shipping.

8MB PS2 memory card - $16 new, $11 used

Devil May Cry 3 - $18 new, $6 used

PS2 controller - $55 new, $11 used

But yes, it's theoretically possible for DMC3 to come to PS2 on PS4. But these games come out very rarely, so I wouldn't hold my breath over that.

u/BobDolesPotato · 3 pointsr/SF4

here's the message i got:

Hey there! What you want is a PlayStation 2 Dualshock Controller (usually ~$15-$20 on Amazon.com) and Etokki adapters.
Sony PS2 Pad - http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367430086&sr=8-1&keywords=ps2+dualshock+controller

Etokki PS2 to PS3 Adapter - http://etokki.com/iNPiN-PS2-to-PS3-Converter
With those two adapters and a PS2 pad, you'll be all set to play no matter what the available system is. It's all lagless and Etokki is run by Koren player Laugh, so everything is legitimate and no worrying is necessary :)

u/wobbleywobbles · 3 pointsr/Games

> Was this even a thing ten years ago?

It totally was! HDLoader (the software used to run games from a hard drive) has been around for quite a while. PS2 homebrew in general has some neat stuff.

The adapter you need is this one. Shop around a bit, you might be able to find one a few bucks cheaper on other places (ebay or the like).

You need this adapter because it also contains the IDE connector. You plug your IDE HDD into the network adapter, and then the entire thing goes into the expansion bay at the lower left on the back of your PS2.

u/128bitz · 3 pointsr/ps2

You need a fat PS2, and network adapter to put a hard drive in your PS2. The official one only supports IDE drives, so you need either a third-party network adapter, or a network adapter mod kit if you want to use SATA hard drives.

PS2 game backups can be played off the hard drive with a program called OPL (Open PS2 Loader). See my comment in this thread for more information about using OPL with hard drives.

All this assumes of course that you're already running FreeMcboot. More info on that can be found here

u/Deadrocks · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

If you still want to use Amazon, I suggest looking under the used section (FFX) for some games. They tend to be much cheaper, and you have a lot of different choices to choose from.

Shadow of the colossus [PS2]

If you like movies/TV:

Battlestar Galactica: Season One [DVD]

Just a few suggestions based on nothing but some stuff I like myself. Hope you find something cool! :)

u/Ramza-Beoulve · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

That price is well below the going rate but do you have a particularly strong reason for wanting it on the SNES? You could always buy the Mega Man X Collection on the PS2 and it would save you some money if you just wanted to play the game.

u/Wylkus · 3 pointsr/gaming

I was going to push Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you already knew what you were doing. Also I highly recommend Katamari and God of War. Things that aren't on your list:

MGS Essential Collection. Three of the best games in one package.

Beyond Good & Evil is a really fun game

Okami is a great Zelda clone although a bit easy (and reaaaally long)

Odin Sphere. This game has a difficulty curve like a damn roller coaster but it's absolutely gorgeous, for the eyes and ears, and has a good plot and likable characters.

Sly Cooper is fantastic

Pyschonauts is one of the best games ever made, but I believe its better on other systems. Don't know for sure though because I played it on PS2

u/TriplePlay2425 · 3 pointsr/metalgear

As an alternative to getting the PSN digital copy if you have a PS3, you can get this:

http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-2/dp/B001383L36/ref=sr_1_4?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=merchant&ie=UTF8&qid=1383105548&sr=1-4&keywords=metal+gear+solid

I bought this several years ago, before the HD Collection came out. It comes with the MGS1 (PS1 disc), MGS2 Substance (for PS2, of course), and MGS3 Subsistence (also PS2, of course). It's 3 normal PS2-style boxes (with different box art, you can see them in the photos) and they are bundled in a cardboard sleeve as a sort of "box set", which you can also see in the photos.

And, as others have said, there's always ebay.

u/SSSkies27 · 3 pointsr/Persona5

Amazon's got both games through 3rd party sellers:

P3FES: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES - PlayStation 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014CN2H6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iW1yCbVM0ATF2

P4: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - PlayStation 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C6GVI6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RW1yCbQSB9984

I ordered P3FES from DealsTavern through Amazon and the game came on time and in good condition. I haven't ordered P4 yet, but if it's backed by Prime and you have it, you should be okay.

Its a pretty common PS2 game.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001C6GVI6/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

It sales for like $17 US new.

Not to mention that it is on the PS3 as a PS2 classic for $9.99 US & tends to go on sale rather frequently.

Also, if you have a Vita it has an expanded version on their which is also super common. Often selling for $20 new.

It its worth purchasing for any of those prices. Its a very good story driven experience.

One of the recommended brands I saw in the past were Katana controllers. I'm not sure if there's a wired version, but Logitech made pretty good wireless PS2 controllers. You could also invest in a Brooks adapter and use with a PS3 controller since that's still pretty close the older DualShock controller designs and you can still find brand new ones fairly easily.

u/scarthearmada · 2 pointsr/gaming

To start things off, what doesn't work:

  • The X-Box 360 controller does not work with these games. It is not entirely supported. The triggers are not recognized properly, and there are issues with the right stick.

What seems to work (But can we get some confirmation from /r/gaming?):

  • Logitech controllers set to DirectInput mode (i.e., Logitech F310), or older controllers that have compatible input modes by default (e.g., the Rumblepad 2?)

  • Playstation 2 controllers connected via a USB adapter.

I say this at the end, but I am so terribly sorry for subjecting you to my absolutely terrible singing voice. It sound good to me when I'm actually singing (you know how we all hear our voices different than they sound to other people/recorded), but when I hear the recording, I honestly sound absolutely terrible.

My buddy had one of THESE. It's not really a bad controller, but damn did it take some getting used to.

I had an N64 controller once that had a "slow mo" button which, when activated, basically just pressed the pause button really rapidly. It was really entertaining to activate it in the middle of Smash Bros games. Also resulted in more than a few bruises.

Shipping is the problem. Lots of US companies in Amazon don't ship outside the country, or if they do there's a noticeable extra cost.

Nocturne

Amusing fact. The guide to Nocturne (which has an incorrect answer for how to solve a puzzle to boot) costs about three times as much as the game.

Sadly I'm not sure if a PS2 can be found on Amazon to ship, when I checked Amazon Global I couldn't find one, but that could be because I'm checking from inside the US. I suggest you check when you have a moment to see what options it gives an Australian.

It's got a nasty mark up at Amazon, but most walmarts I go to have a copy stashed in some random corner of the video game section. It's a really great set. The PSone game comes in a PS2 box, but it's really a repressing of the original PSone discs.

I recommend you Persona 3, it’s a really great game with excellent combat, music, storyline, and some impeccable themes about selflessness and sacrifice. The ending particularly tugs at me as a Catholic, for reasons you will see when you finish the game. It’s around 80 hours long, so buckle down and get ready to play. It’s available on PS Vita and PSP through the online stores on each respective platform (its the portable version called Persona 3 Portable, so doesn’t have cutscenes, and the in game navigation is quite different), on PS2 physically (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014CN2H6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-YXpDb1C1H48A), or on PS3 through online download (these two options are Persona 3 FES, which was a rerelease with additional content, including an expanded 20 hour story line called “The Answer”). I personally loved the game, one of my favorite games of all time and heavily recommend it.

Here’s a synopsis of the game from Wikipedia:
In Persona 3, the player takes the role of a male high-school student who joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), a group of students investigating the Dark Hour, a time period between one day and the next that few people are aware of. During the Dark Hour, the player enters Tartarus, a large tower containing Shadows, creatures that feed on the minds of humans. To fight the Shadows, each member of SEES is able to summon a Persona, a manifestation of a person’s inner self. The game’s most iconic feature is the method by which the members of SEES release their Personas: by firing a gun-like object called an Evoker at their head. In addition to the standard elements of role-playing games, Persona 3 includes elements of simulation games, as the game’s protagonist progresses day by day through a school year, making friends and forming relationships that improve the strength of his Personas in battle.

Here are some links about the game:

I really encourage you to buy the games Persona 3 or 4, they are cheap. If you don't have a PS2, an emulator on a decent computer or good laptop can do the job. You are not pirating an unforgiving giant like EA. Atlus is a great studio that does a great job both producing and localizing, so please do your best to support them. However, if you are low on cash, this is one of the few games with good pirate bay torrents.

I have this one, this one, this one, and this one.

The SG is about 25-30ms behind every other guitar I have, which is a lot.

It's playable, but fiddling with the calibration setting in between hitting the notes too early so they break on the strikeline, and hitting them at the correct time where they don't go past the hit window is annoying, and there's no reason to deal with that.

As u/amirzaim said, if you have a fat PS2, you can get a network adapter from Amazon or sometimes local used/retro gaming stores. You need an IDE HDD too (or you have to use adapters) I got mine here. Lastly, you need a cable to connect it to your PC and transfer game images IDE drive docks work but you can also use a cable like this one. Format with Winhiip and then install the ISOs. You can RIP ISOs off of your retail discs legally by using Imgburn on your PC. For all of this to work you need a freemcboot card, which a nice person in the sidebar sells.

u/SanityInAnarchy · 1 pointr/gaming

So it's apparently not popular to make this comparison, but can we actually think about this?

Steam works this way, as I understand it. I think they have a level between "banned from online play" and "banned from everything", but it is still entirely possible and legal for Valve to remove your access to an offline game you own. But Reddit loves Steam, for good reason.

Here's my prediction: For the moment, Microsoft can do nothing right. And they've been doing an absolutely shitty PR job throughout -- including this bit, which it turns out is either not official or they're backpedaling furiously already.

But in a couple years, no one will remember this, any more than you remember the PS3 banning OtherOS. For most of us, it'll be a minor point of annoyance, less important to anyone than what exclusives each console has.

Remember the interview where the Microsoft guy said, basically, "If you want offline, stick with the 360"? In that interview, the interviewer actually made a solid point. When the original Xbox came out, its competitor, the PS2, had this thing. Notice how it's got a modem in it? At that point, there were enough people still on dialup that this was actually an important feature, if you wanted to play online. Not that many people did -- after all, the network adapter was optional, not that many games used it, etc. You also needed this to plug in an approved hard drive, which the system didn't come with.

The original Xbox came with an Ethernet port. Built in, not optional, and no dialup support. Built-in, non-optional hard drive. Probably more expensive with all that extra, high-end hardware that nobody wanted or needed, especially when they were leaving dialup users out in the cold. So the Xbone, with its required Kinect and leaving people with unreliable Internet out in the cold, sounds very familiar.

By the time the 360 came out, it was pretty clear the Xbox had the right idea. I predict history will repeat itself there.

I'm not saying to get an Xbone. Microsoft seems incredibly disorganized here, and I can't imagine that will translate into a good experience down the line, especially if you have trouble with your account and end up losing your games. Plus, it's not like you're getting anything over the PS4, unless you really want a Kinect -- the PS4 is $100 cheaper, and Sony has said that every PS4 game that's available on a disc will also be available for download. So when you later realize I'm right and Xbone is almost as tolerable as Steam, your PS4 won't be left out. And the PC Master Race is getting better all the time, anyway. Plenty of MS bashing to go around.

All I'm saying is, let's be a little fair. The Xbone being able to revoke your discs may be a little shocking, as they're physically discs, but it's really nothing new. Remember when Amazon flushed 1984 down the memory hole? Yeah.

u/Rabadaglan · 1 pointr/Kappa

You would need the network thing that plugs into the back of the ps2 it has ports for a hard drive and the hard drive will sit in the empty slot back there, it only fits a certain brand of hard drive unless you do a little modding and take some of the frame off the network thing. As for the install of mcboot im not sure, my little brother did it for me. The only part i did was plug the hard drive into it. Im sure there is a walk through some place, probably at the site. The cheapest complete game with box and manual starts at $180. On ebay it's the same thing too. The cull set of 4 games is roughly $250 dollars for the set and Quarantine is probably about half of that value.

You play as Naked Snake (aka Big Boss) who is the original Snake in the series. During a rescue mission that fails, your mentor 'The Boss' defects to the Russians and turns and you. The scientist you were trying to save is being forced to work on a new mobile weapon that can launch nukes. "The Boss" takes him back and throws you over a bridge, and delivers a nuke to the games protagonist, who sets it off in Russia. America is blamed and threatened with war if they can't prove it wasn't them. You are sent back in.

Your next mission is to attempt the rescue again, stop the nuke launching tank, and kill 'The Boss.' You get help from Eva, a over sexy woman who acts as a spy, and gain a rival named Ocelot. At the end of the game, it's revealed that 'The Boss' never defected, but was under orders from America the entire time. She was sent on a suicide mission by the President, to be killed by your hand, so America would look good. She was a true Patriot to the end. Learning this causes Naked Snake to leave America and form his own Army.

-Metal Gear 1 & 2- (Old 8bit)

All you need to know is Big Boss tried to create Outer Haven, a private army with no country. Solid Snake is sent in to stop him both times.

-Metal Gear Solid-

Solid Snake is brought back into action. Terrorists have taken over a base, and demand money, and the remains of Big Boss. The leader of the group is Liquid Snake, a clone of Big Boss, and your "Brother". Solid Snake learns he is a clone with the goal to make the ultimate soldier.

(I'll type the rest tomorrow if you want me to keep going... You're WAY better off playing the others first though. )

I actually bought a few SMT games from Amazon. I think these are still in print, in some very small volume.

I don't know what country you live in, but in the US, it's just $16.60 on Amazon for a PS2 copy.

/r/Megaten always suggests starting with Persona 3 FES since it gives you a taste of what mainline and the Persona series have to offer simultaneously.

You can get a brand new copy from Amazon still, or you can get it on PSN for the PS3 for cheap as well.

I think that gifting 2 people $10 gifts would be the best!

I'm in Canada, and I actually just found both of them for $35 each on Amazon.ca, I'm putting in my order right away!

Haha, I guess that's true. I was thinking of the PS2 version, which is officially Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.

LPT: When your thumb sticks are almost stubs, you can replace them.

Or, you know...these.

I have this dual adapter. OpenEmu detects both ports, but I can only configure the buttons for one. The controller works in game. I'm surprised since none of my Raphnet or Mayflash dual adapters work with OpenEmu. I can usually configure the buttons, but the controllers don't actually work in game.

Edit: I forgot to mention this is with Mojave (10.14.5) and OpenEmu 2.0.9.1

I believe this is the other one they recommend. I'm unsure if it will allow two guitars simultaneously, but hey it's cheap.

u/FuriousDee · 1 pointr/emulation

It just needs to register in Windows as some kind of controller. Once that happens x360ce will work.

The adapter I'm seeing on Amazon is HID compliant - no drivers, just plug and play.

You need to hunt down your exact model of adapter, and look for drivers I guess.

Hey man, if you do end up buying the PIU pads. I found an adapter that works with Stepmania. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J4JVFXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not really sure this is what you're asking, but you can buy a PS3/PS4 wireless adapter for the PS2.

>I am currently having difficulty getting in to trails in the sky. I think it is mainly due to me being spoiled by most games working out of the box with the PS4 controller and I am stuck with point and click mouse controls (which aren't actually that bad).

Didn't know there are problems with controller compatibility. If you are OK with spending a bit of additional money, there are adapters for all sorts of controllers by the Taiwanese company Brook that (even though designed to connect a DS4 to a PS2 for instance) also work on PC. That's the one I'm using on my PC (though primarily bought for my PS2). I've tested SC and 3rd with it and it works like a charm. Since they have internal Bluetooth they instantly connect to your controller wirelessly. I can also recommend the PS3 to PS4 adapter by the same company. Here a link to their hompage. All adapter models seem to work on PC as well. I'd just recommend buying the adapter for the specific console you would like to use a DS4 (or DS3) on and use the PC compatibility as a bonus.

Edit: For some reason the Switch one doesn't have Bluetooth though. For that I recommend the Mayflash which should also work on PC like the Brook adapters (haven't tested PC functionality, I may test it when I get back from work today if you want, since I use one of these on my Switch). That one has Bluetooth.

so something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348854374&sr=8-1&keywords=ps2+controller

and

http://www.amazon.com/PS2-Playstation-Controller-Adapter-Converter-2/dp/B000YMQGWU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1348854409&sr=8-3&keywords=ps2+to+ps3+adapter

I see that comes out to around $20 - half the price of the ps3 controllers.

I also see a lot of knockoff controllers at around that price point, but I guess the official ps2 controller would be a little bit better quality?

u/Monkeydunk · 0 pointsr/vita

What trilogy, there was 4 of them on the ps2. They aren't too expensive either, I mean 4 is still around 100, but for a black copy book, disk and insert for 1, 2 or 3, its only 20-30 bucks usually. Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine.

u/SuperfluousMoniker · 0 pointsr/Games

If you're averse to emulation, there's always Mega Man X collection for PS2.
