This is the golden era of headsets. If you're listening to wow quietly on speakers, I absolutely guarantee you that you can get a headset with a nice mic as well for less than 35 dollars, IF you want one that sounds pretty good. You'll never go back to quiet speakers in a dorm again. Just check amazon
Edit: for example, this is the one I'm currently using. No issues yet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078RJGK35/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SxIZBb5GBDCYE
Playstation 4 Gold. Clean looking, cheap, and has 7.1 via software. Not the most fancy, but work really good for a $99 wireless headset.
HyperX Cloud Stinger Core for 3.5k (blue) - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07BB3PYD8
I use them for gaming on console and PC. Spatial audio is really good especially in competitive games like Apex. Easy on the ears if you're gonna use it for hours at a stretch, retractable and easy-adjustable mic. There's a button to turn the mic off/on and also a volume slider. I use it for the same stuff as you pretty much and the overall sound quality is pretty good.
HyperX Cloud Stinger Core for ₹1,799. Is this a good deal for a PS4 user for playing CoD?
If you are stuck for a cable to use with a set of Astros or something, you can get one of the Turtle Beach PS4 chat cables I've linked below. I haven't got mine yet, but others say they work. They have the correct types of connectors for my A50s anyway (2.5mm with two black rings and 3.5mm with 3 black rings).
Amazon UK
Amazon USA
I'm using the Turtle Beach Ear Force P12 wired set and it doesn't hurt while wearing glasses though my ears get sore just from having them on long-term. But that happens with all headsets.
If you're looking for wireless absolutely go with the Sony Gold headset (or wait for the platinum but I don't think price has been announced yet).
If you're looking for wired check out the HyperX Cloud 2s as mentioned before or the Sony Silver. The Silver uses the same in house surround sound as the Golds but in a wired format as well and will run you $30 on amazon.
EDIT
It seems like the Silvers are prone to breaking, but the same has been said for the Golds and my golds are still going strong and I bought them right after they came out.
I use the PX4 Turtle Beach headset. Transmitter connects to PS4 via optical audio cable, and then wirelessly to the headset. It can also connect to your phone via bluetooth so you can talk on your chat program. (It also has a 3.5mm port for dedicated chat, which I use with a splitter to connect to my PC for chat through TeamSpeak.)
The price is $120 new, but I found mine refurbished for around $70 (I think). Sound quality is well worth it. You might be able to find another Turtle Beach headset that will work for less, but the challenge with the PS4 is that the only dedicated audio channel is the optical audio out port. However, if cost isn't an issue, then this is a good headset to use.

I'm always gonna reccomend HyperX headsets. I have bought other "gaming" headsets and after I got my first HyperX I seriously will never switch to anything else.
On a budget:

I've owned the stinger, the cloud, and the cloud 2. To be honest I didnt notice much difference between the cloud 1 and 2 except that the mic is a bit clearer since it can noise cancel.
edit: The stinger is a very good headset for the price though, they mostly cut costs on it by removing the metal bits and attaching the microphone. It won't stand up to someone who rages and throws their headsets though (rip my stinger, damn you mary).
I would get this instead. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5FETM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1421078364&sr=8-1
Looks like the TRIPLE15 code is for new customers. Amazon also has it for $139.46 if you don't want to use Jet.com. I don't have experience with them so not sure how reliable they are.
You might do a deep dive into /r/headphones and you could ask in /r/headphoneadvice — I think what they’ll tell you is that if you were to buy a “gaming headset” with your $300 budget, you end up sacrificing some of your potential sound quality in order to get that microphone attached.
Whereas you can buy a really nice pair of headphones and then spend $30 or less on a V-Moda BoomPro Mic (or something like it) which basically acts as the cord between your headphones and headphone jack and has a flexible boom mic, a volume dial, and a mute switch. There’s another one that you can stick to the side of one of the headphones either with a magnet or sticky too, depending on the type of headphones you buy and what you prefer.
I bought a pair of Fidelio X2/HR headphones that cost $325 just over a year ago, but you can get them for $150 now. Really comfortable band that operates sort of like ski goggles so it doesn’t squish your head, and will fit a fucking watermelon if it needs to. I bought them because I was looking for a “unicorn” that I could wear for movies, games, TV, and music. They sound fantastic, though they’re even better when you plug them into an amp/DAC (I plug them into my home theater receiver’s headphone out jack and crank it up).
Another really highly recommended one are these Sennheiser HD600 Open Back Headphones for $300 from Amazon Prime right now.
Or there’s these BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro Studio Monitor Headphones that come with an Antlion ModMic so you don’t have to buy the microphone separately, and they’re $189 from Amazon right now, and you could spend the remainder of the $300 on a dedicated headphone amp/DAC that will boost the volume/bass/output and help you get the most from them.
Another popular recommendation is a more traditional gaming headset — the Arctis Steel Series Pro + Game DAC for only $175 — the DAC boosts the headphones and provides DTS:X Headphone (for virtual surround sound). It’s the wired edition, but you could pay more for a wireless if you want.
Anyhow, maybe this will be helpful and give you a couple ideas, but they should help you more in /r/headphone advice if you tell them your budget and what you’re trying to do and what you’re looking for. Read the sidebar so you know the posting format so more people will respond. Hope you enjoy whatever you get! A home theater system is worth saving up for, and eventually you can turn a 5.1 system into a Dolby Atmos system by adding two height channels (so long as you invest in a receiver that is Atmos capable from the start). Come the PS5, I’m hopeful they’ll support it and DTS:X as the XBOX One does now, but they’re also working on their own 3D sound format. Go to a home theater store and have them demo DolbyAtmos for you (especially on a game if possible) and you’ll see how much it adds. You can get a decent home theater system for far cheaper than you used to be able to, but it’s worth it to save up the money and buy something you’re really gonna be proud to own for at least 5-10 years if not longer.
Yeah a lot depends on the mic quality. I party chat with a buddy pretty regularly, and when we first used the ear bud mics that come with the system the sound quality was pretty sub-par. We both bought replacement chat headsets, I bought the Rocketfish from best buy, he got the Turtle Beach P4C and the chat quality is noticeably better.
My echoing only resolved after buying a turtle beach PS4 chat wire (as dumb as that sounds) on the recommendation of others on this sub.
This is the one I bought: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HS5FETM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's expensive on amazon because people know this fixes the astro issue, but you can probably find one cheaper somewhere else or non-TB branded.
Yes, I use the same headset with the Xbox one. You will need the MS chat adapter along with the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that it comes with.
Turtle beach also makes a PS4 chat cable that you can use to connect directly to the chat adapter without having to use the separate 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. Don't worry about the ps4 branding. It's the same cable needed for the xb1. This isn't mandatory but it just makes for a cleaner setup than using the adapter with your existing cable plus you don't need the controls on the middle of the cable anymore. Here is a link for it on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5FETM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426347562&sr=8-1&keywords=turtle+beach+ps4+chat+cable&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
I've been using this for the past 5 years on PS4 and PC without any issues.
Turtle Beach Ear Force P12.
It was a lower teir wierd head set. It costed $70 it's this one actually.
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00NE5D4SS
I love using bluetooth headsets with my phone to chat, allows me to keep talking if I go smoke or something.
Mine's a bit pricey, but I use Turtle Beach PX4's.
Great sound, good mic (one of the flexible ones so I can move it away from my mouth if I'm eating or something), controls are on the headset, so I can change volume and mute the mic without having to grab my phone, and setup on my phone (Note 3) was super easy. Just make sure whatever app you're using supports bluetooth. Teamspeak's app natively does, but mumble doesn't have an official app, so I had to poke around and find one. Ended up going with Plumble (it's on the playstore), only cost a buck and some change.
I presume the signal passes through from 3.5 to USB. No D-A-C is taking place.
So to answer your question yeah your not getting the full benefit without a preamp.
ATH-M50x are stereo headphones with pretty high marks on amazon.
It doesn't appear to have a mic.
I hear good things about the Astro Mix amp pro (preamp) and you can use your current headphones or another brand. It connects to the PS4 via optical cable and you will connect you Headphones via provided 3.5mm cable. This will give you 7.1 Surround Sound. Also can be hooked into a PC to interface with music and other apps you can use while gaming or twitch streaming.

Or you could buy the bundle with preamp and headphones together
https://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-A40-Headset-MixAmp-PlayStation/dp/B014F77FGA/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1478021258&sr=8-1&keywords=astro%2Ba40Tr&th=1
I currently just have the headphones, and it's only stereo from audio jack from controller or 3.5 to usb adapter. It still sounds amazing. Has a detachable mic and custom plates and head pad you can swap out . Build quality is the best I have ever seen. I do plan on picking up the Astro mix amp pro later.
It's kinda hard to compare studio monitor headphones with gaming headphones. Two different kind of tools .
The wire is frayed internally, and therefore the signal gets lost intermittently. At some point the cable either got stretched out too far, or tangled up and twisted too much.
A good rule of thumb for any electronics cable: It should always be hanging loosely—never taught and straight. If your cable is stretched out enough to make a straight line, it's in the process of getting damged. Same goes for tangling, twisting, and bending the cable.
Source: Studied electronics, and have worked with cables on and off for a decade or so.
You'll need a new one. The official ones that come with the PS4 cost about 12$:

According to Amazon, the headset is out of stock at the moment.

I found golds are really good, I got them on sale for $70 though. Normally they are $99.
Platinums are on $120 on amazon. They are better built and sleeker IMO. I'd compare the two online and see if the price hike is worth it to you.

PlayStation 4 Platinum Wireless Headset
Are you talking about these?
PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset - PlayStation 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW6SOV9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_EciSDb105CJSW
This was very helpful though.
Hi. I wanted to comment on this because I recently got this headset and I spent some time experimenting with some diffo sound mixes. What I've tried so far is just regular ole stereo that downmixes whatever you put in, the dolby headphones that this virtual 7.1 surround card does, and dolby atmos for headphones and here's what I've learned from the 3 compared.
So with both both Dolby Headphones and Dolby Atmos Headphones you get this awesome expanded sound stage and it sounds like the sound is more 'out of your head' and helps alleviate the cramped sound stage inherent to closed back headphones. However, the sound card's solution (Dolby Headphones) adds a ton of reverb so situations where you're listening to vocals or someone talking it sounds like they're in a really echo-y room. On top of that, dolby headphones completely destroyed positional sound for me. I no longer could tell the source of a noise, a problem I didn't have with Dolby Atmos Headphones or with plain ole stereo.
TBH, I think the dongle/usb sound card you get is garbage. My xbox one controller appears to have a higher ohm output (based on very non-scientific listening tests) and the virtual surround sound is worthless unless you are only listening to very textured music and don't mind the reverb.
Dolby Atmos Headphones was p. great though. I got the best of both worlds and didn't notice any sound degradation. Fortunately, since it's just software, you can use it with any set of headphones. Unfortunately I can't get it on my linux work station when I'm listening to music during the work day :/
That was a lot of unsolicited opinion, but I hope it's helpful anyhow.
EDIT: I'm actually not sure if the dongle is 'Dolby Headphones' or a diffo technology. Either way I didn't like w/e the dongle was doing to my positional sound.
Ur budget is 40$ but u could save money aside to spend 80-100$ on a really good headset, i have had my ps4 golds for 2 years going on 3 and they still run practically like new. Battery isn’t as strong as when i bought it but its still good for 4-8hrs of heavy gaming i linked it, if you plug them in every night and put them in a safe spot u will never have any issues
ps4 gold headset i use
New PS4 Golds
Old PS4 Golds, Refurb

Seems spendy.
You'll want the official ps4 new gold headset. $99 usually. It's on sale right now I guess. $70.99
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Headset-4/dp/B078TCLYVM
The black & copper pair don't look as cheap as the black & blue pair but I'm surprised Audeze is branching into the gaming market. I figured they were too far into the boutique market but nothing wrong with expanding the product stack. I see a couple big issues with these though:
Head tracking is a meh worthy gimmick too. Monitor manufacturers have been pushing eye tracking the past year or so which is more compelling because I don't move my head drastically enough during a session & certainly not enough to want to see data about it.
And finally, at $400 retail they're more expensive than just about everyone else. I don't see these doing all that well tbh. Cynical take but I feel my reasoning is justified.

If mono is your thing (it is for me, I like to hear my game sound through TV and any talk through headset) then you could pick up the Turtle Beach P4C £16.99
Had mine for over 2 years now, amazingly good value for money and definitely comfortable to wear (I use it for Skype now more than PS4 controller)
I've got my 7.1 setup in my basement so I'm just going for a Turtle Beach P4C that plugs into the controller. Got it preordered along with BF4 and AC4.
Will this work for you?
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Ear-Force-playstation-4/dp/B00EI4V3FU/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1382809715&sr=8-25&keywords=ps4+headset
Turtle Beach Ear Force is $14 right now. I use it. People in the reviews say that it's not loud enough for them but I don't have any problems with them.
Sorry man, but just stereo. Maybe you can still return it and get something else? Keep in mind that most, if not all, 360/PS3/PS4 wireless headsets will work.
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Surround-PlayStation-Headset-TBS-3276-01-4/dp/B00EI4V3X2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394647322&sr=8-1&keywords=PX4
I'm assuming you have these headphones.. To be honest, it sounds like an incredibly bad case of interference. Or a faulty transmitter. Perhaps try getting in touch with Turtle Beach about the issue.
Yes.
The link above is to Amazon, and your headset is listed. I bought mine through Turtle Beach's site at launch, but I didn't see it quickly after I googled it and I'm working so I'll let you find it cheaper! But $10 is still a great deal to avoid buying a new headset.
> I want the full experience. Best sound, best build quality etc.
Take a look at this setup Sennheiser G4ME ONE, Astro Mixamp Pro, headset adapter and a 2.5 to 3.5 chat cable and there is also a setup guide for it all on Astro gaming's forum.
I made on post on Reddit the other day asking Astro A40 + Mixamp pro users, What's your opinion about the headset and would you recommend it?, Most defiantly worth a read.
I had this issue with Gen 1's. For me, it turned out the issue was the crappy cable they include to connect the headset to the controller, or the little 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. What I ended up doing was buy this cable:
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
It says the cable is for PS4, but it's exactly what I used to connect between my old A50 and my controller. The echo problem was solved completely.
I know it sounds ridiculous that a cable could fix it, and of course YMMV, but it finally solved the problem for me 100% of the time.
Non-mobile: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426347562&sr=8-1&keywords=turtle+beach+ps4+chat+cable&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?
I actually sent in my chat adapter with that cord.. got an adapter back with a new adapter but not the cord we need, so i called them and they sent me 6 more of them without the wire... soooo finally after few months ( 2 days ago) I found a wire but keep in my I have a mixamp (astro a40).
I found this at bestbuy http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility-TBS-0276-01-4/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1425753949&sr=8-4&keywords=turtlebeach+adapter
Also, you can use this http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=2.5+to+3.5+stereo+adapter&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A2.5+to+3.5+stereo+adapter
2.5 to 3.5 stereo adapter
Oh, I know your issue. I had this back when I first bought my X1.
Your setup is right, but the talkback cables turtle beach headsets use have different poles than regular 2.5/3.5 cables. I don't know the specifics, but they're easily found if you google it.
You need the specific proprietary cable that goes from the headset to the controller. Specifically this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5FETM/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1464513217&sr=8-3&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=turtlebeach+talkback+cable+ps4&dpPl=1&dpID=31urCCMyjfL&ref=plSrch
I had the same issue and couldn't fix it until I used this cable rather than a standard one. I tried multiple cables, and I couldn't get chat to go through (but I could still hear people) until I put this one in.
Does the robotic sound happen while you are in a PS4 voice chat with your friends? This happens to me as well and goes away after a short amount of time, but it seems to happen with all sorts of headsets, so I've heard, from others and my own experiences.
I currently use my Astro A40s with the MixAmp Pro, my ElGato HD60, as well as a Blue Snowball Mic. In order for my party chat to hear me on the PS4, I had to buy this, which plugs from the MixAmp Pro to the bottom of your controller (I use my Astros for PS4 party chat since the mic quality isn't the best, and my Blue Snowball as my Desktop mic for my stream).
for the 598's you'll need a y splitter (headphones/mic port y splitter) and you'll plug the headphones into the headphone port, mic into mic port and run a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HS5FETM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00) from the controller into the mixamp where it says controller.
For the a40's you just plug in the headphones and then run that same 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable from the controller to the port where it says controller on the mixamp.
Your best bet is buy these
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5FETM I bought multiples.
After my cable broke I got this, no regrets, works perfectly: http://amzn.com/B00HS5FETM
Did you buy this? http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-PlayStation-Upgrade-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00JC5Y9LK
This is what I bought for my px22 to work properly with the ps4.
If you can't get USB working, is there a way you can get optical or coax output from your PC into the AD18? A lot of motherboards have one or both onboard.
If not, you could try something like this. It's a "PS4" sound device but appears to be a standard old USB device that will work on a PC as well.
You won't be taking a hit in fidelity or anything like that, either way you'll be getting pure digital 1's and 0's to the AD18.
(Sorry I can't troubleshoot the AD18 USB directly, I don't have one)
I have a Turlte Beach Earforce P11 I use, tho for it to work on both you need an adapter. They make one called the DAC1 ( digital to analog converter ). I have big ears and I can use them for about an hour before I have to take a rest from them.
Though the link I provided for the P11 doesn't offer any new, the adapter is designed to work with various models of headsets. Not the best option maybe, but it will work for both consoles.
I use this to split the audio and get no delay
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-PlayStation-Upgrade-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00JC5Y9LK
Yeah, I would much prefer to buy the Silver Wired Headset, and use it's amp, as opposed to the $130 Astro Mixamp.
Also, I found a Digital-to-Analog Converter from Turtle Beach's Upgrade Kit (Amazon) and also an Ear Force processor/converter (Amazon)
Would these also work? They are a lot cheaper. If not I might just buy the Silver Wired Headset and use it's adapter.
(edited: for redundancies.)
I agree with RossaF1. I have speakers on my display but I have an old Soundblaster Omega 3D headset that uses a 3.5 audio jack on the receiver base. Rather then plug it into my display or run it to the control I use the Turtle beach optical to 3.5 convert from the ps4 kit below. This would allow you to just hook up the Xbox One to any pair of 3.5 jack speakers.

PlayStation Silver Wired Stereo Headset https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_s-bJxb4Z7V62F
Could plug that into the bottom of your controller but then you're tethered to your speakers.
You need some sort of USB audio output where the 3.5mm can go. For instance, when you buy a headset you get the little volume control box and where the headset plugs in you could also just plug in speakers. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00NE5D4SS
They make little adapters that don't cost as much as a headset kit but I have no idea if these would work on a console instead of a PC. http://a.co/iX9Ydg1
I play on a monitor and I got the Sony Silver headset when it was 19 bucks at Walmart. The headset broke of course, as it's known to do, but I'm still using the little adapter to plug in different headphones and speakers.
I have the same headphones and there's nothing you can do :( I ended up getting these for only $20 and I love them. They're a little hard to find in store but I got them at best buy and price matched Wal-Mart.
While I have not tried this specific headset I did use the previous gen one. Reliable and comfy with pretty decent voice quality. -
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00NE5D4SS
Can't you:
You can plug the USB cable into the Xbox for transmitter power.
If you needed chat, it probably better to just get a new gaming headset.
I like my Turtle Beach PX4 headset and use it w/ an optical switch for my PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Uhhh, I have Astro A40s with mix-amp pro. Good quality, doesn't require recharging and has long cables. You can find it here for Best Buy if you need it ASAP.
Best Buy matches Amazon's price which can be found here since they are in stock, shipped, and sold by Amazon.
Currently I'm just using my Astro A40's. Is it overkill? Maybe, but they're comfortable and they stay put without having to constantly readjust them. A giant plus is that they completely drown out any trainer noise (and the wife 😆), so it's just me and the music, trainer video, or whatever it is that I'm listening to.
It's not US only. Amazon.ca has it up already "Currently Unavailable"
I suspect they'll have them, even if there system shows nothing now.
There is a third party seller that's selling one for $599cad ($449 USD) that's ships to the US for $10

Yesir. The PS Gold can only achieve 3D when connected via the 3.5mm jack. As for the reasons, the 3D audio is processed by the PSVR breakout box. If you don't mind spending the extra cash you might as well get the new platinum headphones, which is the follow up to the gold headphones Link
Sony Platinum headset that came out Dec 16/Jan 17, it also supports 3D sound which currently is support by Uncharted 4, Horizon and MLB the Show. IMO they're the best price to performance ratio for me. I had the Sony Gold headset before those, they're a step down from the Platinum in terms of quality and sound performance.

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset/dp/B0725Q9RDB/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_63_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=DRWG1D6EGXPRZA7WJW5V
-I had the gold headset before this one and it felt very cheaply constructed comparatively (only lasted 6 months before the folding part snapped and shattered). It's def a fine option at the current Amazon sale ($69.99), but buyer beware. The plat has a pliable metal band that can take a beating... I may have accidentally stepped on it once... or was it twice? Regardless, the headset brushed it off like a champ.
-I've had the plat for 2+ years now with heavy use and it shows no sign of breaking/cracking, audio quality loss, or charge depletion issues.
-Like any good wireless headset, the usb dongle works perfectly fine (and has WAY better range) when plugged into a computer. I play rocket league on PS4 all the time with my friends who are on PC, and I use this headset for discord on my laptop.
-If you've got the initial line Ps4Pro and it runs like a jet engine (despite cleaning and replacing thermal paste...), these have decent noise reduction to combat the small exploding star in your room.
-There is an app on playstation that you load EQ sound profiles on that are designed by game devs for their respective games... but idk if my app is busted or if they never update it, but the plat app only has like 3 options for me and I can't get it to update... not really a selling feature here, BUT you can set your own EQ and save it to one of the two presets on the plat headset and load it on the fly, which is pretty cool.
-3D audio, dual mic voice capture, and the standard bass boost switch are welcome features here compared to the gold. 3D audio SHINES on this thing, but it only works with PS4.
-In regards to price point, this is a great list compared to the trend (CamelCamelCamel Link) and the cheapest a new one has ever been made available besides a crazy brief sale in april.
https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-RIG-4VR-Headset-Playstation-4/dp/B01LYPEQE2
I got a pair of these and I think they work pretty well. Plugs into the headset's audio jack and has two cord lengths
I had the Gold and enjoyed them but for whatever reason began having serious connection issues. My voice and party chat would cut in and out so I started looking for an alternative.
My big thing was keeping it in the $50-$100 range so I ended up with the Plantronics RIG 4VR at $70. I got it from Walmart but it should be available at most retailers. It's extremely lightweight and comfortable. I'd say it's more comfortable than the Gold particularly because I have glasses and long sessions would put a bit too much force on the glasses. Sound and voice quality has been great and haven't had any issues.
It's worth noting that it IS NOT wireless so if that's a deal breaker then keep away.
Anyway. Here's the link on Amazon... Plantronics RIG 4VR - VR Gaming Headset for Playstation VR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYPEQE2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KplRzbFWV58TB

I use a headset with one earphone, similar to a call-center headset. I have chat audio in one ear, and the audio from my TV all around. It's a very simple solution.
Here is the headset I use: https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Gaming-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B06WP1XHBH
Looking on Amazon, these seem like ones I would buy if I didn't have some currently. I have the Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50P and the are amazing, though a bit over the $30 mentioned ($35). I can personally recommend those.
I can understand the mini map annoyance. I’ve never really noticed it, but thanks to you I’ll probably notice is from here on out, which sucks haha. But dude, definitely invest in a headset. I got this one from Amazon. It’s by no means a top notch headset, but it most definitely gets the job done without breaking the bank. My only issue with it is that it’s pretty fucking bulky and starts to hurt after a few hours of playing. But still, cheap and does what I need it to.
I hear the PlayStation Gold wireless headset (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078TCLYVM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_27V5AbE7EBWBS) works really well. I’ve never used them personally; I just plug my Bose headset directly into the controller and it works great, so if you already have a pair that you like I would recommend trying that first, any headset with a standard audio jack will work.
The cheaper one, it has a new design to work better with PSVR.
The expensive stuff isnt worth the money. I have a $200 pair of Turtle Beach headsets that dont sound a whole lot better than the $40 pair of Turtle Beach headsets I bought my kid.
Right now on Amazon you can get the Gold Wireless Playstation branded headsets for $70. Thats $30 off. Ive heard lots of good reviews about them and If I were looking for a new pair Id pick these up in a heartbeat. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078TCLYVM?tag=price19296-20&ascsubtag=wtbs_5dbe1ace93d3c35d8e5de0f8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Oddly it IS more expensive on amazon.com. I managed to snag it before the shipping date jumped too so I should have it Thursday.

Their the best for comfort and sound. It comes with amp mixer. It’s prime deal right now.

Also if you check the reviews for the arctis pro wireless on amazon mine is like the 10th newest one and has a photo of them with the pads installed. They look, feel, fit, and sound so much better lol

I also wear glasses, usual gaming sessions via PC or PS4 that typically last 4-6 hours. Also use these for quite a bit of YouTube viewing while on the PC. Huge Turtle Beach guy for most of that time (DPX-21, PX-5, PX-4). Always had tons of issues with the stems of my glasses pressing into my temples and making the tops of my ears hurt.

Bought a set of Steel Series Arctis 7 in October, and I’m in love with them. Steel frame headband with a suspension strap, so you barely feel the weight of them at all on your head, and the ear cups do not press AT ALL on the stems of my specs.

I surprisingly held back when it comes to makeup/skincare, since I just found some good Winners stuff last weekend.
BUTTTT I did take advantage of KKW Beauty’s sale, I got the Classic Palette, the new version of the Cream Highlight Stick, and the new version of her Cream Contour Stick. I heard that they have a tonnnn more product in them than the dual sticks?
I spent a lot on tech, finally got my hands on this Nintendo Switch!! Also got Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, Mario Kart, and Rocket League!
For PC gaming, I ended up investing in a good pair of headphones: GLOWING RGB SteelSeries gaming headphones, I’m sooooo in love with them. Also got a new RGB keyboard and mouse combo from CoolMaster, and a wireless charging pad/headphone stand because I love dual purpose things lol.
Also got a surprisingly large amount of cute home stuff from Forever21’s Cyber Monday sale.
As you can see I’m all over the place lol.

Not much of a price diff from your steelseries headphone
In terms of comfort, they barely fit my ears and mine are proportionally sized to my over 6' tall body. They also make my ears sweat. They're okay but you can find other brands that are similar for a little less.
I'll save the story of my adventure in headphones and just say the ATH-AD700X are probably my personal pick for headphones for people with big ears but I've heard pretty much any of the Audiotechnica headphones are about the same comfort.
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700X-Audiophile-Open-Air-Headphones/dp/B009S332TQ
I bought the ATH-AD700 (no longer sold) for their accurate sound quality and high quality comfort. They're not exactly portable, so I don't get to wear them as much as I'd like to but they've been my favorite headphones for a decade now. I spent a stupid amount of time reading head-fi.org forum threads about headphone recommendations before picking the ATH-AD700 out and they did not lie about the pros and cons related to them.
My second choice but I never bought them because of price were the DT 990 headphones. I knew I'd have to buy an amp for them and the price isn't exactly cheap either.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00193FT26/?coliid=I2F1YZCSXF66N7&colid=1BOTIPM7PEEBD&psc=0
Of course, their cheaper line, the DT 770, is probably just about as good and don't require such a powerful amp.

If you're looking for something cheaper with a mic attached, try the HyperX Cloud Stinger.
https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Stinger-Core-Playstation/dp/B07BB3PYD8
Alternatively, just google "headsets for big ears" and see what looks good to you. This list actually seems to do a decent job explaining the advantages from a gamer perspective.

Says 40mm right in the chart. Also those aren't leatherette.
>Even though everyone gets a mic with their PS4, I've never met a single person using a mic in 7 hours of playing.
While I don't necessarily agree with you (I would absolutely hate if everyone would be allowed to talk everyone, especially in the tower), can we please talk about that PS4 mic?
Honestly, I feel it would have been better if they just didn't give anyone a mic in the first place. If you would want everyone to talk, you wouldn't want them to be using this mic. I used it because I didn't have anything else in the house (and my PS3 bluetooth headset doesn't work ...) and it's just absolutely god-awful.
Something like this is only going to cost you about 20 bucks and will probably be dramatically better than that piece of shit they give you.
After many many years of online gaming I personally don't think any game should allow voice chat "out of the box", but that's just my opinion. In any case, sony hasn't done anyone a favour with that mic.

I use this mic for just chatting and it works great.
Haven't used it myself, so this is more of an option than a recommendation, but I've seen the Turtle Beach P4C recommended by others along the way.
I grabbed one of these a while ago for $25 and it's been great, Turtle Beach P4C.
Not a full headset and the ear cup is open, so you still get all your TV and ambient audio.
I went with a pair of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Beach-PX4-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00EI4V3X2
Fantastic sound quality, just bare in mind with these the headset is only fully wireless when listening only - For use of the Mic you will have to use a lead running into your DS4
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wireless-Surround-PlayStation-Headset-4/dp/B00EI4V3X2
I use the TB PX4 which is just a shade over your budget on Amazon atm
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Surround-PlayStation-Headset-TBS-3276-01-4/dp/B00EI4V3X2
Even though it's marketed as a 'Playstation' headset it's actually compatible with the X1 with the chat adaptor as well if you want to chat
If it's just a wireless headset for sound you want, this will do the job perfectly and being Optical, you get the full dolby surround experience.
I personally love it because I use the same headset for my X1, X360 and PC with an Optical switching box.
Dolby surround across the board... nice.
I use the Turtle Beach PX4 (http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Surround-PlayStation-Headset-TBS-3276-01-4/dp/B00EI4V3X2), and I love it. I have it set up to work with my PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 through an optical audio switcher (http://www.amazon.com/Nyrius-SW100-Digital-Selector-Compatible/dp/B000812QC6), and everything works perfectly. You do need to pick up the chat cable for the appropriate console separately if you want to use the microphone while gaming, but those are also available on Amazon and / or Turtle Beach's website.
I''ll probably pick up this headset if it gets good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Ear-Force-PlayStation-4/dp/B00EI4V3X2/
If you want to see another headset that works and sounds amazing, check out these bad boys, they are also cheaper:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00EI4V3X2/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_C
They connect via USB for power, and SPDIF (Optical) audio stream. Come with a decoder that enhances the audio and is a wireless headset, minus that you have to have it plugged into the controller for chat as the mute button won't work till a future firmware update from Sony.
Are they purposely making it hard for headset companies? haha :)
That one works but I personally have used that and the cable lasted me about a month. You can buy that if you want, just to have the buttons on the controller and everything but if you want a more reliable cable, I bought this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=cm_sw_r_taa_kP.sxb0MQP977
and it still works perfect after almost a year. Ignore the fact that it says PlayStation 4. It still works with Xbox one.
I use the Turtle Beach PS4 Chat cable that converts 2.5mm into 3.5mm.
Edit: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility-TBS-0276-01-4/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411864368&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+chat+cable
I use gen 1 A50's. You need to get yourself the chat adapter and one of these cables: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Beach-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1464795237&sr=8-3&keywords=turtle+beach+cable
This is what i have been using since the chat adapter came out and it works perfectly
Edit: if you are from US this should work aswell: https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Headset-Talkback-Replacement-Headsets/dp/B0147YVCG0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464795350&sr=8-1&keywords=turtle+beach+cable
If you already have a place to plug in the auxiliary cable of the headset, you only need a PS4 chat cable.
Turtle Beach doesn't sell these cables by themselves anymore, presumably so they can make more money by including them in the upgrade kit.
I use X12. For game audio, I have them plugged into my monitor using the green cord.
For chat audio, you'll need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm (male to male) cord.
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
If for some reason you can't plug the headset into your TV or monitor, you can still get game audio from the controller too.
could i use adapter and Headset as long as i have that cable that goes between them?
I'm sorry to keep bothering you but whats the difference between these two cables:
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Talkback-Windscreen/dp/B00HRKF0PG
I just set them up according to Astro instruction, and used the Pro settings and thought they usually sounded pretty good. Biggest issue I had was the microphone was trash, and real quite for folks in my party. Replacing the chat cable that goes to the controller helped, but my voice was still overly quite regularly. This is the replacement that helps: https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM/
Didn't really want to as I was pretty sure you downvoted me.
This one should work though.
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
Like others have said it could be the controller but the chat cable that came with those Astros was notoriously shit. I used this while I had the same headset and I didn't have any issues with it.
You need a 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm chat cable? Or I'm confused...?
Chat cable

I have this one and it works fine.
That won't work. Try searching cables to work specifically with PS4 and Turtlebeaches. Like the official turtlebeach ps4 cable, or this one (the one I bought)
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
its just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable
Do they still make the Razer Chimera 5.1? I had a pair for the 360 back when black ops 2 came out and it was a fantastic headset comfortable and great sound. I actually used them up until last year nonstop not because they broke or were bad quality but because I wanted to update my gear (Razer gear never wants to break which can be a little annoying when you end up using the same mouse/headset for 5+ years). I do need to give you a heads up though if you do buy the RC5.1 you need to buy an adapter caple to have the mic work for chat on ps4 the RC5.1 was designed for 360 if I remember correctly this is the one I bought when I switched from 360 to ps4 https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520360534&sr=8-4&keywords=turtle+beach+chat+adapter+ps4

This might work, I'm not sure but I use a similar one on my Earforce Tango's.
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00HS5FETM
Should come with one that you need if not I used this one from turtle beach says its for ps4 but it works with the a50's to the chat adaptor.
Turtle Beach - Ear Force Chat Cable for PlayStation 4 Headset Compatibility - PS4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_Xc7xwbPQKCS9M
I bought this one for my turtle beach headset which would meet your needs: Turtle Beach - Ear Force Chat Cable for PlayStation 4 Headset Compatibility - PS4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_eRdAwbDXZHKQJ
However it is unavailable. An alternative is this one: PlayStation 4 PS4 Chat Talkback Cable for Turtle Beach Headsets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K8J5L52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_4NdAwb18XH17Q
I would avoid any 2.5 to 3.5 adapters as I have had trouble with them. Get a cable that goes from 2.5 to 3.5.
Lol I was way off. It was a PS4 turtle Beach chat cable.
Turtle Beach PS4 Chat Cable https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_p8N3Db57C8KDT
Plug that into the headphone and to the controller. Make sure optical is plugged into the transmitter.
Chat adapter or turtlebeach chat cable.

So this won't be a suitable fix?
I also lost the cable that comes with the stereo adapter that I was using with my tb x12s. I got a cheap one on eBay, but it constantly echoes. Either my adapter went bad or the cable I got isn't completely compatible. I'm going to try one of the ones linked ITT and report back. Anyone else have echo issues with cheap cables?
Tldr don't buy cheap 2.5mm->3.5mm adapter on eBay
edit: bought http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-PlayStation-Headset-Compatibility-TBS-0276-01-4/dp/B00HS5FETM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1425753949&sr=8-4&keywords=turtlebeach+adapter - will report back if it fixes my chat issues
I use this and it works great. It's says ps4 but it absolutely works with the chat adapter for xbox one.

This is the one I use for my A50's and it works perfectly it says PS4 but it works for Xbox one.

i have my astro mixamp connected to my PC and PS4 and get sound through both at the same time without having to move cables around often
I have the mixamp plugged into my PC and get sound through the USB while i have the ps4 connected to the mixamp via Aux. If i decide to play on xbox i can just move the aux cable from the ps4 to the xbox1.
As for chatting i have a Yeti mic for my pc. Since i had an old mixamp with a 2.5mm port for the 360, i bought a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable that goes from the mixamp to the ps4 controller (bought something like this two years ago). i dont know if the newer a40 systems provide the 2.5 to 3.5mm cable or the amp still has the 2.5mm port.
I like having two separate mics because i can easily choose who i want to talk to if im on discord as well as a ps4 party at the same time. I can just mute the mic from astros with the mute toggle on the headset wire or press the mute button on the yeti.
Just look for a female 2.5mm to male 3.5mm adapter. Or you could bypass the adapter cable and just get a 2.5 to 3.5 cable. I use one of the Tutrtle Beach PS4 cables.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HS5FETM
Works with my TB X32s and my Astro A40s. Can't comment on other brands, but I would imagine most other headsets use the same poles as those two.
Hi again!
I am just home now and all is working well with OBS so thanks for that! I am still having that problem however with my Headset.
What I want:
-To have sound coming through my headset connected to my PS4 AND to record sound on OBS of my game at the same time.
What's happening:
I am hoping it is a software issue where it can be solved by changing a setting. However, I think it might have something to do with using a splitter of some sort like this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
How can I use this as a portable dac with an MP3 player?
Turtle Beach Ear Force PS4 Headset Upgrade Kit for Turtle Beach Headsets https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00JC5Y9LK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Y5MIDbSG3JB60
I have one of these with the relevant cables, and I’m wondering if there’s any easy way to use this as a portable dac1 with a MP3 player as a portable setup
Any help massively appreciated
I am using the turtle beach ps4 upgrade kit as my DAC and passing the audio via male to male 3.5mm cable into the mic port on my PC. My PC just passes the audio through to the speakers. I've been using this setup for over a year and as far as I can tell there isn't any lag.
The DAC I am using: https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-PlayStation-Compatibility-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00JC5Y9LK
Buy this one? https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-PlayStation-Upgrade-Headset-Compatibility/dp/B00JC5Y9LK/ref=pd_sim_63_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00JC5Y9LK&pd_rd_r=D9B6P2KPT48N1C7F68WK&pd_rd_w=FdVEj&pd_rd_wg=KbdpX&psc=1&refRID=D9B6P2KPT48N1C7F68WK This should work perfectly. You need an Optical Converter. Plus the Chat Cable Which is all included here. I don't see why it's shouldn't work here.
I reccomend getting this http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Upgrade-Headset-Compatibility-TBS-0115-01-4/dp/B00JC5Y9LK
It upgrades the audio to digital and is your best bet if you don't want to buy a new headset.
I got an adapter for my headphones from best buy. It's an optical+usb (for power) to 1/8"+use.
I don't see why you couldn't put a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter on it to get it to work.
Here's an Amazon link:
Turtle Beach - Ear Force PlayStation 4 Upgrade Kit for Turtle Beach Headset Compatibility - PS4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JC5Y9LK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_jT0NwbWG37DXW
After I bought a pair of the Tiny Silver Playstation headphones I replaced them with Turtle Beach - P12 on a friends recommendation and love them. https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Amplified-Headset-Playstation-4/dp/B00JK2DCU4/
So these would work on both?
I'm looking for a new headset for PS4, something under £50, as i don't tend to join parties due to no headset and the missus usually in the same room (only have 1 tele). As I play a lot with the Rats it be great to talk to you lot.
I have been looking at Turtle Beach

So any help from the Headset Guru's would be great.
I have 3 of these https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485205813&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+gold+wired+headset

Try these?
I got these PS4 headphones they sound and look good only thing is they can be a little tight but I got use to them
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1466887343&sr=8-5&keywords=ps4+headset
not exactly what you're looking for but I bought the terrible playstation silver headset pre-owned for $10 bucks, proceeded to junk the headset its self and use the usb adapter it came with, I have the same setup you have (SHP9500+Boompro), using it you can download the Headset Companion app on the PS4, it offers a few profiles and some basic EQ, which offers marginally more bass or treble but reality is the SHP9500 just doesnt bass and you'd be better off getting a second pair of cans for bass.
It also has "7.1 virtual surround sound" which does offer better location awareness on the PS4 but not tons.
My mistake, i dont know if its newer or older, but the one i was talking about was the PS Silver Headset. Its wired but has the mic that comes out. Its also cheaper than the Gold normally. Not sure if its newer or older, but on the Headset app you pick which headset you are using, and i had never seen that one until recently, so i assumed it was new.
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416538135&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+silver+headset

Yes they do each ear separately. They should cover your ears, unless you have gotten the other pair (the silver ones).
I've used these:
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Vita-ear-Headset/dp/B006PP3ZK6
They work well enough and plug directly into the controller. I had trouble with people hearing me through the mic though...
Or you could get these:
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00NE5D4SS/
They have decent sound/mic and work great with PS4. Also, it's one plug into the USB port. Some of the other suggestions have what look like odd setups with a mic/sound splitter that goes into the controller and a USB that goes into the PS4 which just looks like a mess.
I do agree with other posters here that suggest to spend $$ on good headphones that will last. I've had enough cheap ones in the past that didn't last very long, or had slightly subpar sound, etc.. There is a motto I try to follow "Buy it nice or buy it twice". Every time I get something cheap and it ends up breaking or otherwise a pain I have to remember my own motto and shake my head.
These look really convenient. In the interim of waiting for something like this, I've been using the Silver PS headset, it's actually fairly comfortable
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501595282&sr=1-1&keywords=playstation+silver+headset
So that's what that included adaptor is for! I was able to find it, which will make my search simpler. Only reason that I thought a single port was available is because one seems to be included in the official PS4 Wired Headset but I wasn't going to buy it just for the adaptor when my headphones are already much nicer. I think I can search for adaptors with 2 ports now that I know that the Bose adaptor works. Thanks!
> I wish to connect them somehow to my PS4 to recieve a surround sound
>virtual 7.1 is a gimmick
Virtual 7.1 is simulated surround sound. 7.1 channels downmixed to 2 channels for headphones. It's what you're asking for.
Your budget is too low to get anything that's going to have a high opinion on audiophile forums.
These are in your budget and will do what you're asking for: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-Silver-Wired-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00NE5D4SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427061671&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+silver
My solution was to buy the sony Silver wired headset. It plugs in to the usb and has a female 1/8th audio jack.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NE5D4SS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495075923&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=ps4+silver+wired+headset&dpPl=1&dpID=41Ntz-PpwRL&ref=plSrch
Well I have the PS gold headset and like it quite a bit. However if you want wired they did release a silver edition that is wired. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NE5D4SS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1417504113&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
In your price range as well
Since you said "or so" this is what I'd reccomend:
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Surround-Talkback-PlayStation-TBS-3276-011-4/dp/B00NHV0XV0/
Has lots of complex connectivity. It's a Bluetooth headset that works with the PS3/PS4/mobile. It's got a connection cable for the 360/One controller, and it has a dongle with optical passthrough and a headphone jack that can handle anything else.
This PX4 is a pretty good bang for your buck. Especially if you already have the headset adapter from your current headset. Wireless, but plugs into the adapter for chat. The PS4 chat cable will work fine with the Xbox One adapter. And surround sound. This is basically the same as the Stealth 500x but uses a cable for chat as oppose to being 100% wireless.

I currently use ASTRO A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro TR. The white is for Xbone and the black is for Playstation. To get these to work on PC you just need to plug in via USB and you get Dolby 5.1 and chat. On console you need the optical cable for sound and USB in console for chat. I really likes these headphones because I use my PC and console at the same desk and this actually allows me to chat on my PC while getting audio from my Xbox at the same time. The amp even has a built in volume mixer for chat audio and game audio. It's really nice.
You mentioned best. I think an Astro Mixamp and headset might be in the running. It lets you control volume and the volume of game chat vs. voice chat by turning knobs. Here's an example.
That's cheap a f. Amazon selling a40 TRs for $320 cnd. Make sure it comes with a mix amp if you using it on console. Mix amp by it self is like $120. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B014F77FGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_UMi4wbHDYXG1A
I have the Astro Gaming A40 TR Headset and they have Dolby Surround 7.1. It Sounds Great.
If budget is no concern, go south the Astro a40 tr edition. Very nice. I've had them for over 2 years now and no problems.

I know sometimes they won't allow electronics across borders but I always try buying from the U.S. in Canada and sometimes score a deal :)
It doesn't appear that it includes the console. Look for yourself over here. Nothing in the description says anything about a console included, the specs only seem to reference the display, and the picture only shows the headset itself. If Sony has made any statement that it will be bundled with the console, or there's something that I missed on the product description, please tell me.
Nope!
It's on Amazon
Yes, it's just garbage filler info. It's currently listed for pre-order on Amazon at $US 797 just for the headset. Released Dec 2016.

Also in Canada and have been watching prices - BestBuy has the core set (helmet only, no camera, games, or controllers) on sale until August 24 for $449 CAD (normally $549). Amazon.ca and EB Games were matching the price, but they might go back to $550 once the BestBuy sale ends.
I haven't been able to find the camera for less than $75, and I already have two Move controllers, so I pulled the trigger on this deal. Here's how it rang up with shipping to Ottawa:
> Item(s) Subtotal: $399.99
> Shipping & Handling: $34.93
> Promotion Applied: -$100.00
> Total before tax: $334.92
> Estimated tax to be collected: $0.00
> Import Fees Deposit $53.60
> Grand Total: $388.52
According to XE.com, that's currently $495 CAD. Considering the price of the included games, I don't think you can do better than this in Canada, even with the shipping, taxes, and exchange rate.
Edit: Here's the Amazon.ca price history for the core set and the camera. Game prices on the Canadian PS Store: $39.99 for RIGS, $24.99 for Until Dawn - Rush of Blood, $29.99 for VR Worlds.
Edit 2: Looks like Walmart.ca has the core for 399.99 CAD. Better deal if you already have the camera or don't want the games.
Been sold out since day 1 here in Tokyo, no where to even demo (Kinda ironic with Sony HQ here and a pop of 40 mil). People were getting from Amazon US and paying even more ($70+) for import duty fees/shipping But now Amazon US looks sold out too, same with the Pro.
I don't know where u are but apparently Amazon.ca has some at around normal price. Just checked and they're in stock for about $550 Canadian ($416 US dollars), new, free prime shipping, but don't think they ship outside Canada...

I also have this problem and what I did was used my PS4 earbuds that came with the console. I plug it in to my Xbox controller then use the clip to clip it to my headset wire that’s connected to my PC, by doing this you’re able to talk to your party using the PS4 mic while hearing and talking through your headset mic. No need to actually put the earbud in your ear because you’re getting the audio through your PC headset. Here’s a link to the earbuds in case you’re unfamiliar.

I don't think so what ear buds are you using? The rare times I've tried to use apple ear buds they don't work.
Here's a link to what I use outside of that I don't have much knowledge on the subject https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-Mono-Chat-Earbud/dp/B01DCYWI96

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-PS4-Mono-Chat-Earbud/dp/B01DCYWI96/
The ps4 comes with a mono earbud with mic. I don’t think anyone actually uses those. You can probably just ask anyone you know with a PS4 if you can have theirs if they haven’t tossed it yet.
EDIT: They’re $9 on Amazon

Platinum Headset
The Platinum one costs more, but supports 3D audio for select PS4 titles.
The new generation Playstation headset releases January 10th, according to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Platinum-Wireless-Headset/dp/B01LW6SOV9/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MF75DJ00JS8XJ067GBMV
Maybe just grab this for him, based on how much he prefers Sony's own accessories to other brands. It would be hard to gift a pre-order, but you can print out the receipt/order# and pop it in a Christmas card? Sony fudged up by pushing back the release 2 weeks after Christmas, but I guess it means they've worked out all the kinks.
EDIT: Keep in mind that if your bf has the new Slim model PS4, he won't be able to fully utilize headsets that require an optical input. The old model and Pro both have the optical input, but not the Slim. Also, whoever is just downvoting headsets they don't like in here...please kill yourself.
I think some 2D games will be implementing it if there aren't some already, the Amazon page includes 3D audio as a feature of the headset. I'm not positive how it would work either, but it's listed.
If only BF2 would work with VR and this...

Not sure about the ones you're asking about, but I did buy the Mantis and did not their sound or fit. While they say the Mantis are light, I felt they were heavy and they were uncomfortable against my ears. I prefer the Plantronics RIG VR headset
https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-RIG-4VR-Headset-Playstation-4/dp/B01LYPEQE2
These are made for PSVR. Not too expensive, more flexible so they fit over the headset, and 2 separate cords (one longer for regular use and one shorter for VR use). I enjoy them a lot.
Though I bought them for using with my PSVR, these ( https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-RIG-4VR-Headset-Playstation-4/dp/B01LYPEQE2/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=plantronics+rig+4vr&qid=1557195479&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull#customerReviews ) are what I use more than any of my other headsets for games needing a mic. They are just super comfy and nice sounding.
If you end up getting the Dell, consider this headset. It's extremely light weight (feels kinda cheap to be honest) and it fits over the Visor perfectly. It also has a short cable so you don't have to worry about tugging on it accidentally.
Picked up the Plantronics RIG 4VR and I love it. They're not expensive, and the design is perfect for the PSVR. Plus no charging needed. :)
I have the Hyper X Revolver S and I couldn't be happier.

They are on a great sale right now on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RM9N3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_v5T.BbVH9F8BJ
I want to buy this usb headset and have it be plugged into my PC and PS4 at the same time. Would I need just a simple usb splitter and what kind? They don’t need to run at same time. I just don’t want to unplug and plug in every time I switch devices.
HyperX Cloud Revolver S Gaming Headset with Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound - Steel Frame - Signature Memory Foam - Premium Leatherette - Works with PC, PS4, PS4 PRO, Xbox One, Xbox One S (HX-HSCRS-GM/NA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RM9N3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_afd.Bb106CFW9
These headphone fit perfectly over the halo. I used them with the PSVR and I am happy they work just as well on the Rift S: HyperX Cloud Revolver S
Sennheiser is the best of the best, but be ready to pay $100-200 premium for same quality as Beyerdynamic until you start getting close to $800 plus where no one can keep up with Sennheiser.
As for speakers, they don't tend to really get "good" unless you start spending ungodly money. I use these, but it's nothing crazy, just something I use for when I don't feel like wearing headphones (most single player games).
If you want a headset instead of headphones I recommend these.
The Revolvers are better. I snagged them on sale and they work on both PS4 + PC/Mac with surround sound. Amazing difference.
I guess I assumed you were referring to a comm of this style:
https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Gaming-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B06WP1XHBH?th=1
I'm in search of a single-sided bluetooth over-ear headset for talking on the phone. I haven't had much luck thus far, only finding dual-sided over-ear bluetooth headsets for gaming, or wired headsets like this: [Turtle Beach Recon Chat]
(https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Gaming-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B06WP1XHBH/ref=pd_sbs_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B06WP1XHBH&pd_rd_r=GGVTYWTZ83D2YA9JMPST&pd_rd_w=J4KMJ&pd_rd_wg=Y9iOc&psc=1&refRID=GGVTYWTZ83D2YA9JMPST)
It doesn't have to be impeccable sound quality as it will only be for talking on the phone, not gaming or music. Ideally it will be under $40, but if that's not available then I can budge on that.
I am even fine with hacking up a bluetooth dual-sided headset by cutting off one ear, or adding a bluetooth dongle to a wired one (ideally the former method if I'm doing one of these). In the case of either, I would just like to know if anyone has experience doing either of these and can say if the modification worked.
Thanks in advance!
I was looking for a wireless alternative a while ago but couldn’t find any so I ended up buying this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06WP1XHBH/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1520361527&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=turtle+beach+chat+recon&dpPl=1&dpID=4123dd2SFyL&ref=plSrch
It uses the same connection as the Sony one that comes with the PS4 but I liked the sound quality much better.
Let me know if you find a wireless alternative!

Hello,
I have just started streaming as well, but I might be able to help. A easy fix to both the mic / tv blending would be to buy either a (or 2 if there you want each person to have a mic) gaming headset (link below is about 16 bucks, if you dont care too much about quality of mic/ headset) headset and simply connect it to the computer. Depending on what software you are using to stream (I use StreamLabs OBS, but I only stream on my laptop, not a switch) you should be able to turn off the tv audio, use the switch for audio that is directly jacked (I am not sure if a HDMI cord will work, you might need an audio jack, ill post a link below to a subreddit for it) into your computer for your stream, and use your mic on the headset(s) if you want to talk (Prob need to be in a discord call or something so your computer can use the audio coming off of the desktop). If you do not want to use a headset, then I would still use the audio coming out of the switch, and buy some sort of mic and share that (like a cheap yeti or something) If you are really worried about the blending and you want to fix that, a ghetto solution would be to download discord and tweak the audio settings (you would either be together in a call or seperate, if you go into setting and select voice you can adjust sensitivity) so it ignores background noise. Take all of this with a grain of salt, as I am not sure what setup you are using and how you have it hooked up / how exactly to start streaming off a switch. Some links:

Best of luck on your stream, hope this helps.

Onikuma Gaming Headset
There are a couple reviews now on the Amazon page
I've tried a lot of headphones: cheap earbuds, expensive earbuds, Koss, Mantis, Bose QC35II, Sony WH-1000XM3. I even disassembled the Mantis and put the Koss drivers in them.
In the end, the best headphones for me ended up being the Playstation Gold Wireless Headset. The sound is good (better than CV1), the headset is relatively light, it fits over the halo well, and it's wireless! I hated having a cord dangling down or awkwardly attached to the HMD. It's wireless through it's own dongle, and doesn't use Bluetooth. There is no perceptible latency. Being able to take them on and off so easily (because no wires) is really nice.
Isn't this the new one? https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Headset-4/dp/B078TCLYVM/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1519855059&sr=1-3&keywords=ps4%2Bgold%2Bheadset&th=1 though it does not mention 3D audio anywhere on the page.
I have the PlayStation Platinum Headset and it’s great. I paid £90, I don’t know how much they are in the US but there’s a Gold version that is practically the same but made from plastic and its a little cheaper.
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Platinum-Wireless-Headset-4/dp/B078TCLYVM?th=1&psc=1
On a somewhat related note: Does Microsoft make an official wireless headset for XB1?
I use these on my PlayStation and I'm wondering if there's an Xbox equivalent?
The new Playstation golds just came out and people like the previous version of the Golds. They are priced at $100.
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Platinum-Wireless-Headset-4/dp/B078TCLYVM?th=1
Or the Hyper X Clouds or the Cloud IIs have been talked about a lot. They won't break the bank.
https://www.hyperxgaming.com/us/headsets/cloud-gaming-headset?partnum=KHX-HSCP-RD
Or you can up your budget and get some Astros. I have the A40s and they sound amazing and come with a mixamp so you can personalize your settings. More pricey, but worth it in my opinion.
https://www.astrogaming.com/headsets/A40-MIXAMP-TR-PS4.html
You can't go wrong with any of these. Do research, look at reviews, and see which ones you want.
Dunno why you got downvoted, these headphones work with Switch wirelessly using their USB dongle. This is a list of ones that work.

hi, i'm sorry about my delayed responses im orthodox jewish and there is a jewish holiday through wednesday so i wont really be around until after that. unfortunately, im not sure how to install a preview build, can you tell me how?
more importantly how do i get a log of something that windows does not seem to know is not working? to be super specific, im using this headset: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078TCLYVM/
in earlier times (i dont have an exact date of when this stopped working) i could use windows to control the volume of my headset, either by using the slider bar by clicking the volume icon on the taskbar or the volume shortcut keys on my keyboard. now, when i use the slider bar, it still "slides" and similarly when i use the keyboard shortcut it still shows the volume increasing or decreasing, it just doesnt actually do anything, as in, it does not affect the headphones in any way to adjust the volume from within windows. windows does not seem to know that, however. windows i think thinks everything is working properly, so as far as i can tell, there is not a "problem" to generate an error log.
how can i create a log for you?
EDIT: just fyi, i can still adjust the volume using the hardware buttons on the headset itself. EDIT 2: i should mention the buttons on the headset have nothing to do with windows volume control, adjusting the volume up or down on the headset does not change the slider bar or whatever windows thinks the volume is.
thanks again for taking the time to communicate with me, i really appreciate it and will try to follow instructions to help you help me :)
Budget
Price isn't much of a factor. Mainly looking for a good price to quality ratio.
Source
PC gaming and casual use
Requirements for Isolation
Don't need it to be perfectly isolated but I enjoy being "immersed" in good sound quality when listening to music or playing games.
Will you be using these Headphones in Public?
No
Preferred Type of Headphone
I'm a headphone noob and am not sure about all the terms, but I have been using these audio technica for almost 2-3 years now and although they're still holding up really well, they're dirty and peeling off. I don't mind if it is a specific gaming headphone as I use my camera mic. I do plan on getting an external mic to attach on the headphone if it does not already come with one. Now, this might sound pretty lousy, but I like sleek and solid looking headphones. I don't doubt that the sound quality is amazing, but I'd like to have something that has an appealing look to it. I've done some research and really like the look of the steel series model. The $350~ one looks great but unless it is actually worth that much, I'd rather look elsewhere.
Preferred tonal balance
Just looking for all around headphones.
Past headphones
Audio technica ath m50x - After all these years, it is still incredibly comfortable and doesn't feel too heavy on my head. The overall immersion I get from it is meh, but it has lasted me this long.
Beats studio wireless - Not sure if everyone still hates beats, but I loved these pair of headphones (before someone broke into my car and stole them lol). They are incredibly comfortable, very immersive and are sleek/stylish. I'd even consider getting these for my pc but not unless there is better.
Preferred Music -
Anything really. I have songs from different genres in my playlist, but mostly just hip-hop stuff.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up
Overall great headphones and maybe an external mic

can you point me to the right place I can't find anything of that name and description with mobile devices listed as compatibility this and this are all I could find that get even close.
Arctis Pro, https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Arctis-Wireless-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B079YBKT3H/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1536197573&sr=1-3&keywords=arctis%2Bpro&th=1
Although I don't regret buying it one bit, it is ridiculously expensive.
Does anyone have suggestions for a decent wireless gaming headset that is capable of Multipoint (being wireless to my PC and my Mobile at the same time). I found the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless but not really ready to drop 329 dollars on a headset.
That's a whole $5 less than Amazon.
ETA actually, if you want a white one, Amazon has that for $180.
ETA2 those are third-party sellers, fulfilled by amazon, the second one with only 92% positive feedback.
Same price at Amazon:

Arctis Pro are really comfortable as long as you don’t have a big head. I have the wireless set but this sound better because they not wireless.
if you can increase budget by around 300, do consider this: https://www.amazon.in/HyperX-HX-HSCSC-BK-Stinger-Gaming-Headset/dp/B07BB3PYD8

That's a pretty decent headset. The Stinger Core has a shorter cable though. You might be able to find Stringer (non core) for about 3k on sale.
You do know that's going to stick out and poke you right?
You should look at something like this.
I know it says PS4 but it works on the xbox one as well.
Well if you are playing on pc or ps4, the Turtlebeach PX4s are treating me very nicely. They are wireless but also have a super long cord if you don't wanna have to deal with charging it, though the battery life is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend it.

They are a lot cheaper now then when I bought them so that's a plus for you, I bought for 140$ a year ago but they are about 80$ now.
Try roughly 800USD... so who's still buying it?

Ps4 overwatch has a communication problem. Let's look past all the other shit for a moment, such as reaper being practically invincible, and the new insta-kill death ray that sym is sporting after the most recent round of updates, and focus on the one thing that would make this game a lot more enjoyable:
Get your fucking mic out and use the fucking thing.
Don't have a mic? Get one of these: Turtle Beach TBS-3345-02 PS4 Recon Chat Headset https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06WP1XHBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_L7XCDbFJ6RJQE
I have one, and it's great. It's cheap and plugs in to your controller, so it doesn't need to be charged. Has a mute button when you want to scream at your significant other/your dog/your kids/etc.
Even if it's just a call out here and there, I don't expect you to be just spitting out information all the time, but if you aren't on mic, or at least in chat so you can hear those of us who are, you're putting your entire team at a disadvantage right off the hop. We can't strategize with you when you can't hear us. Oh hey, we want to go around back on volskya with a sym tp, but you're charging alone thru the main choke and getting destroyed, spamming that you need healing (genji I'm looking at you bro), and then when we lose you find your mic and start shit talking all of us. Or maybe we don't need a hamster and a roadhog, one of y'all need to go shield tank. But blame the backline healers when they're getting shredded having nothing to hide behind and you're not 'getting healz' as a result.
I realize that you were probably on mic once and someone hurt your feelings or something and now you've sworn off voice chat because of those salty fucks that once wronged you, but going all lone wolf in a game mode that requires teamwork is nothing short of maddening for the rest of us. I have a regular group of friends that play, and the 3 or 4 of us are always in chat if we're in comp. It's frustrating to say the least when the only thing stopping us from getting wins is lack of communication. It's pretty much killed overwatch for me, and I doubt I'll be playing it once borderlands 3 drops. I can live with the other glaring problems that overwatch has, character imbalances mostly, but I simply can not deal with the lack of communication between team members any more. It's ruined overwatch for me.
Probably the best in that price range.

You need a mic/headphone splitter for pc
https://www.amazon.com/Headphones-Convertors-Headphone-Microphone-Simultaneously/dp/B01M8G1U0C/
Here's the thing... If you don't raid or do trials.. what do you need a 300+ primary for?
Mic issues is a poor excuse man, go to the store and pick up a decent mic for ~$20, and start enjoying the game to it's full potential.
So you can afford a ps4 but can't afford £5 to replace the mic? Lol
