For reference, discarding took about 4.5 months in my 1400 sq foot home and two storage sheds. I have started working on deep cleaning, upgrading necessary yet ugly items, and storage/organizing. I expect this to take another two months. I am watching "Clean My Space" and "Home Organizing by Alejandra.tv" channels on YouTube now to help with the process.

I am trying to keep in mind getting products out of original packaging, if possible, to limit exposure to constant advertising in my home. I am choosing to spend quite a bit on higher quality products that I love and expect to last many years. Fortunately, I have a budget that allows for some luxuries.

Bedroom

The closet has a built in shoe organizer and I used my label maker to indicate what style shoes go on which shelf – heels, sandals, sneakers, flats and boots. I also labeled the shelf for each basket. Clothes hangers are all white. They used to be all kinds of colors, and I realized that white is more calming. The folding works great for most of my other clothes. I am still pondering how to organize the nightstand drawers.

Kitchen

I bought a couple of 10" bamboo lazy susans for keeping my oils and vinegars organized in my cabinets. I bought some refrigerator organization units from InterDesign and the Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce savers. I intend to get Oxo food storage containers for dry goods.

Bath

Have not done much here yet. I don’t have much need for storage organization in the cabinets. Still considering what I want to do with the drawers. Right now the drawers are still organized with small cardboard boxes from Glossybox, a cut down cereal box, and an empty jigsaw puzzle box. Laundry

We live in an area prone to natural disasters so I like to be prepared wherever we are. Also, found tissues in a round container that fits perfectly in the door cup holder. Purse

I reassessed what is in my purse. I used a couple small cosmetics bags that I had on hand and now have many things I wished I had at various times. Everything is neatly organized and I know exactly what is in there and why I have it. Not exactly Konmari minimalism, but those are all things that I wished I had at various times and I am happy that I will not be caught without again. It is a medium size purse, packed just right, with stuff easily accessible.

Home office

Something that I have noticed is that I can now shop with confidence, I can easily toss or donate the old unloved items, and I am organized enough to return those few items that don’t work as well as I hoped. You know what makes a super easy light box that can easily fit this guy inside it? A pop-up hamper. Just put something flat inside it, like a book, and put a piece of white paper on top of that.

Congratulations on the first ride! After you've tried it out for a while, you'll know what you want to change or optimize... but you're doing it right by just starting with what you've got.

For drying your towel and dirty clothes, I've had good luck with a mesh pop-up hamper under my desk. They collapse small enough that carrying it in in my backpack was no problem, clothes go in it and dry out through the mesh, towel gets tossed over the top since it's even wetter. Under the desk keeps it out of sight, in case of picky co-workers.

Keep the clothing well ventilated and dry. All the laundry bins that you will find at walmart will all have slits in them to provide airflow, and that is for good reason. When i was traveling through Europe i put my dirty clothing in a stuff sack in my pack and it ruined all of them. Everything stunk horribly, and even after washing they still had the same smell, so i threw them all out.

Do not keep your clothing in any waterproof container, whether that be a trash bag, a bucket, or a stuff sack, it will just make things worse. Instead get an air permeable container like This one, and make sure to not put anything in there if it is wet or even damp. If your clothing is wet you need to hang it up until it drys. You can put it on a hanger and hang from the ceiling, or you can just hang it over the back of a seat or something else.

As long as things are kept bone dry you will not get the bacterial growth that causes the smells.

Also if at all possible you should try and invest in some kind of ventilation. Get a ceiling fan installed, and if you are worried about stealth you could always put up a roof rack to kind of conceal it. Even a super small van will help with the smell.

4.If you have communal bathrooms, buy and bring your own toilet paper, its a gift from the heavens.

5.Crock pot: Get one and learn its magic. No cafeteria food is still good after a month and I've never heard of a dorm not allowing crock pots.

6.Full-size comforters are fine on the weird "xtra-long twin" beds, but the sheets must be correct.

7.You might have to put some things on hold for awhile, your life will not be the same. I love shooting and hunting, but I had to learn to do without my first year. Don't sit around and mope about it, find something new to do. Don't replace old hobbies, just try new things you also enjoy.

Howdy! I used three of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F51A8U/ and tied them together using ribbon, then bought 4 yards of slightly stretchy neon green 60" wide fabric to make the outer part with. The main body is one solid piece sewn together on one side with a circular piece sewn to the top. The rest of it was pretty straightforward, using felt for the eyes and hemming the mouth hole. Took about 8 hours altogether of learning to use a sewing machine, pinning the fabric, assembly, etc.

Three tips

1. Sort your laundry as you take it off. Depending on your laundry arrangements, get something like this or this--which is the one we have. One is for white stuff that's going to get bleach, one is for lights, and one for darks.
   
   
2. Turn your clothes right side out before you stick them in the hamper.
   
   
3. Wash on a schedule. I do every week, but if you have enough clothes, make it every two weeks. That way you don't have to worry about whether you have enough clean clothes and because you don't have to worry, you can put your clothes away.

If you are using plastic baskets, buy some of these collapsible mesh laundry baskets. They're super light and easy to carry up and down stairs, around doors, hold a lot of clothes, and you can fold them up to save space or use them as hampers.

I forgot to consider you might be out of the U.S, but my tips should still apply.

This might sound obvious but don't overpack clothes. Some of my roommates and myself included brought so many clothes that we don't use and it's just taking up space.

For kitchen use, take your own utensils but just one of each you're not going to need more than that trust me. For kitchen equipment like pans and pots, if your buddys do get in coordinate who takes what so you don't have multiples.

In the beginning it's all about taking what's absolutely essential, if you're able to go home during breaks that's when you bring some more stuff if you have the space.

Cheaper versions of these make for great washing stations at your camp. You can usually find empty ones at Meijer and Walmart for a couple bucks. I just use an old laundry detergent container that I washed out when all the soap was gone.

Folding Hamper

Want to keep your tables tidy and clear up space. Look into these cheap closet organizers. They hang pretty good from your canopy.

A BIFL light box probably isn't really necessary unless you have a studio section for product photos.

Okay I have a few things I think would be good to have. First of all target sells these amazing sheet sets. They're inexpensive and they last a long time. Whether you're dorming or not its good to have one of these. Do yourself a favor and get one of these and maybe one of these as well so you're not fighting over plugs. I see you play some instruments so its good to have some of these. Do yourself a favor and get one of these but this one may be better for you. If you're looking for real portability, there's no reason that you couldn't use wire for the whole thing.

Using the spring steel hoop from one of those collapsible laundry hampers as the outside rim, run your counterpoise from the feedpoint to the hoop like spokes on a bicycle. Then suspend the whole thing from the top of the upper element.

If you want a double discone, just do the hoop and wires for both top and bottom. You should be able to fold the whole thing up in to a little pack small enough to fit in your pocket.

As a ham that does a lot of portable HF operations, I can tell you that telescopic antenna elements are delicate little bastards, and never last nearly as long as you think they should. They're also fairly expensive, and not especially easy to install on your project in a durable manner, depending on how you want to construct it.
