I would just order some of these

Ok...didn't realize I had to add a comment to add text to an image post. Anyway...

Long story short: first time I rode, I slipped and fell and had nasty road rash. The ignition on my scooter was fucked and I was in recovery for about 2 weeks.

Photos of my injuries when they were fresh, click at your own risk:

Here we are weeks after, everything has healed completely except for my shoulder and wrist. I sprained the shit out of it apparently. I bought some gear to keep me protected and this is what I use:

After doing some errands on the scooter today, two things I've realized: riding for a while really takes a toll on your legs, mostly calves and your hands really cramp up after a while (3+ hours). When I had the accident, I was going 20mph and while I was riding today, I realized why I fell. The speed never went down because with the Emove cruiser, if you hold the throttle for a while, it automatically activates cruise control. I figured out you can just turn it off by pressing the throttle twice but still, better late than never. Also I got a little too confident and went to the second mode instead of just staying on the first. I rode today strictly on the first mode and everything went smoothly. My only complaint is how stupid hot it gets where I live and I was drenched in sweat by the end of the day

Edit: I forgot to mention the smaller things I've attached to the scooter

There are Bluetooth transmitters that he can hook up to that speaker jack (I just bought one for my mother's TV), but they need to be powered. Here's the one I bought. It's big but probably still easily small enough to fit on a motorcycle.

https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Audikast-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones/dp/B077MXFJGQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=EE7IX7OEDVOI&keywords=audikast+bluetooth+transmitter+for+tv&qid=1557076940&s=electronics&sprefix=audikast%2Cmobile%2C237&sr=1-3

This particular device gets its power via USB, and it looks like this thing can be hooked to his battery:

Good luck!

RAM mount.

Lifeproof case.

Waterproof/waterproof-able USB port adapter.

I use it as a backup GPS. You can pair it with various devices and helmet bluetooth gizmos, to make and take calls, etc. I don't mess with any of that, some folks do and like it. For music I use standard earplugs and an old-school iPod Classic, Babydriver style.

u/tshizdude · 6 pointsr/motorcycles

I use a Sena SMH5 Bluetooth Headset. No messing with headphones, automatically pairs with my phone, very quick and easy to change a track, choose playlists, raise and lower volume, full phone functionality via Siri, intercom, etc. Great product, worth every penny.

I'm using an older version of the RK Excel chain tool. It's expensive but I've replaced a lot of chains in the 10 years I've used it.

Motion Pro also makes a good quality rivet tool/ chain breaker.

I got it from Amazon for 45$

u/R00zel · 6 pointsr/pokemongo

Just got myself this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LOA8DNQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]

US Link: https://www.amazon.com/Vibrelli-Universal-Phone-Mount-Holder/dp/B010OPQVUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468182021&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=bike+mount+phone&psc=1

Really great. The clamp is adjustable, comes with two silicone webs (US version comes with 3, count 'em, 3!), allows tilting and swivelling if you want to enable battery saver. Good price too.

I feel like cycling is the way to go. Quick travel between pokestops and gyms (I took 3 this evening!) , because you're on cycle paths or pavement it's much safer to stop, you don't need to look at the phone at all because the sound tells you when pokemon appear, plus it's great exercise! (My app says I burnt over 500 calories today.)

u/Sqeaky · 6 pointsr/pokemongo

I bought two of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010OPQVUS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

One for my cell phone and one for this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017R8VREU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The light on the battery pack was better than the light on my bike so I replaced it.

Ingress player and Pokemon Go Beta tester here:

Want to catch pokemon and not die of the heat? Easy! Get on the lightrail. (Or in Tempe get on a free Orbit shuttle)
It's great for hacking Pokestops and for encountering pokemon in the wild but you won't be able to do gym battles unless you get off the lightrail but that's ok. You want to level up and get some good pokemon for the gym first anyways. You will want to use the gym later though. It's the only way to earn coins in game by "defending" gyms. You can also strengthen a teammates gym by leaving pokemon at it too. C ordinate with your nearby friends and choose the same color if you'll be traveling together or playing in the same area alot.

The higher your level the better Pokemon you will see.

Oh and don't start upgrading your low end pokemon yet. It wastes stardust. As you gain levels you find ones that are maxed out or almost maxed out. Just sell or "transfer" you lowest CP duplicates to get candies for that pokemon.

If you're gonna spend money on the game start with buying a few egg incubators. You only start with one.

You will most likely need an external battery pack as the game sucks up more juice than ingress did by far. There is a battery saver box in the options and you can turn the camera mode off which helps some but still sucks down the juice like crazy.

Got a bike? Makes catching em all easier! Put one of these on it to keep from dropping your phone, wrecking, or both.

WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING.

PUT A CASE ON YOUR PHONE.

BE NICE TO PEOPLE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. If they ask you to leave, leave. A gym on property doesn't give you the right to be there.

I bike through the winter up until a certain temp cutoff. My no go temperature is colder than -12. Anything warmer and I'm going.

With the right gear it's actually nice, and your commute to work turns into an adventure every day, and you feel like you're on an expedition conquering the elements.

bike setup: i have a single speed 1970's road bike that i use in the winter. I have 32mm studded tires on it for icy conditions.

https://www.amazon.com/Kolpin-Geartector-Mitts-Black-92185/dp/B001Q4YMXA
I use these ATV bar mitts because they are way cheaper than bike specific ones. I wear thick gloves inside of these when it's below zero.

base layers: you need wool or synthetic long johns as the base layer and wool socks. when really cold i double up

pants: I have winter biking pants that are lined with fleece and windproof on the front. get some chinese made ones on amazon, just make sure you get the really big size

top: so on top of the base layers, I have a soft shell jacket that breaths a little. when less than zero, sometimes there will be a fleece under that

boots: I have undersized snow boots I ride with, using flats for pedals. If you have the jack and ride clipless, look into 45nrth boots

face: balaclava, and when really cold, I wrap a scarf around my head too. I used to wear goggles but they would freeze up so I just stopped and let my eyelids freeze shut every once in a while.

that's about it.

I'm using the Abus 8077 and from what I've seen it's one of the strongest disk locks on the market plus it has an alarm. The alarm isn't as loud the the Xena disk locks but I avoided those due to the excessive comments of false alarms, broken alarms and poor customer service from xena.

The abus lock feels seriously solid and it's the perfect size to fit under my seat (yamaha mt-07).

If you also want a high quality chain to carry with you that's not too heavy check out the Pragmasis 13 or 11mm chains.

https://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0182-Cable-Luber/dp/B0012TYX9W

This tool clamps around the cable end, and has a small hole in the side that allows you to stab the straw from a can of spray-lube into it. The rubber seals around the cable, and forces the aerosol lube into the cable sheath.

If you suspect water, I would take the choke cable off of the control, clamp up the lube tool, and start by shooting WD-40 into the sheath. WD-40 is not a lube, but it does displace water. (That's what WD stands for, after all.)

As you are injecting WD-40, move the choke cable in and out, until you see lube coming out the bottom of the cable sheath.

Wiggle it in and out a bunch more until WD40 stops dripping out the bottom, and then shoot actual cable lube into the sheath.

Next, do the same thing to your throttle cables, clutch cable, etc, although you may be able to skip the WD40 step.

If you don't lube your cables, they will break when you are 100 miles from home, in the rain.

Used on my cbr500r. Works for all sorts of bikes.

Frankly the Bilt helmets are not all that great on the quality scale. I've had an HJC, Shoei, and now a Bilt full-face w/ bluetooth that I got from a similar sale as yours. By all means, they do the job, and for a bluetooth-integrated helmet it's a great price, but they're definitely cheap. However, I've had mine for about 4 months now with no issues. The way I see it, you can keep on trading until you get a Bilt helmet that works (they do exist), or you can look at alternatives. On cycle gear's website it does look like they still sell HJC, although I haven't seen any in my local store for a good while. HJC helmets are about the same price as your Bilt and from my experience more comfortable and less noisy, but you would have to get a separate bluetooth unit. Here's some ideas for you (assuming they have it in stock at your store, or you can use the credit online):

http://www.cyclegear.com/HJC-IS-Max-2-Solid-Modular-Motorcycle-Helmet - about the same price as your Bilt helmet, sans bluetooth.

http://smile.amazon.com/Sena-SMH5-02-Low-Profile-Motorcycle-Bluetooth/dp/B0087NB1IW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462345722&sr=8-2&keywords=helmet+bluetooth - seems like a well-reviewed headset by a reputable brand.

You'll end up spending a little bit more, but then you can ensure that you get a solid helmet, and if the bluetooth doesn't work it's just a matter of exchanging that one part, and if you get it elsewhere you don't have to deal with cycle gear.

I hate riding with a backpack

u/curiouspoops · 3 pointsr/hondagrom

I believe the proper spec is 35mm for the newer groms.

You really don't want to deviate from that too much. Anywhere from 30-40mm is fine. 50mm or more and it can potentially be dangerous to ride. In fact, the owner's manual says do not even ride it if it's at 50mm or more.

These tools come in handy and I use them every time I adjust my chain.

  1. MOTION PRO Slack Setter Pro Chain Tension Tool

  2. Motion Pro 08-0048 Chain Alignment Tool

And yes, each time you loosen the axle nut, you will most likely have to readjust your chain tension. Do not try to make adjustment without loosening the axle nut first. This is not a hard task to accomplish once you've done it enough times. The important part is obtaining the proper slack in the chain and also making sure the rear tire stays straight. That is what the chain alignment tool is for, because you can't always rely on the hash marks on the swingarm.

This video has been pretty helpful for me, because he shows the correct process of chain slack adjustment, starting with the tire pushed all the way forward and slowly getting it into spec. It's on a Ninja 300 but the same concept applies.
u/Err0rless · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

Petcocks CAN be rebuilt without an issue, but depending on the price of a new petcock, entertain the idea. They can be a hassle.

Clean the carburetor and install an inline fuel filter if possible. Use non-ethanol gas whenever possible.

Definitely buy a manual for the valve adjustment, you've got shims instead of a locking nut on that bike.

Brake fluid absorbs 1-2% of water annually; do a flush and the brakes will have a notable difference.

Check the gas tank for rust, I've found white vinegar does wonders. BUT if you let it sit too long it'll eat petcocks. Try to remove the petcock just in case. Let it sit for 24/48 hrs while sloshing it every few hours. Empty, rinse with water, use WD-40 to displace water (OR use Heat), and fill with gas to prevent flash rust.

Buy a cable luber

Track down a local shop for a carburetor synchronizer to make sure both carbs are pulling equal vacuum.

I've found Rotella works great with older bikes. Had my '82 Yamaha Maxim 750 & '77 Suzuki GS550 running great and the clutch up to par.

Get a pair of fake balls and hide them in your pants, then you have extra room to hide things. Remember, the TSA goes until they touch your balls and then back down. This way you just have a little more vertical storage area.

Or just get one of these which allows phone calls, phone control, song skipping by voice or even touch by the physical wheel on the helmet peice, always on mode for other units between riders ECT. No need to buy a phone to get an app for song skipping ;)

Hey all! I have a few questions about helmet speakers for music. I have horrible tinnitus and bought that huge bulk thing of foam earpro to wear which helps immensely. But at the same time, I can't wear ear buds. I've tried some of those earpro ear buds but they neither provide enough sound deadening or is loud enough. I've seen some other threads talk about how they can wear earpro and still hear music through their comm systems. I don't need anything fancy, but I need something loud enough to hear through the foam. I don't mind plugging my phone into it, or if it has any sort of comm function. Ive looked at a couple, but I'm just trying to find some other peoples experiences.

Some that I am looking at:

Sena SMH-10

Tork X-Pro Motorcycle helmet speakers

UClear Digital Pulse

u/c0zgrove · 3 pointsr/motorcycles
  • Came across this thread that has some pretty good gear deals for the track.

  • I'm looking for a Sena SMH10, best I've found so far is Amazon for $153. Still looking.

  • Sportbike Track Gear has some pretty good deals going on. If your head is small you can score a carbon fiber Bell Star helmet for $250.

Anyone know a rear bike stand that works with a 250 Rebel such that you don’t have to take off the exhaust to use it? I was looking at this one: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/trackside-rear-paddock-stand

Also the Harbor Freight $32 one. And the this one too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AV8HSA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wA.cBbGNXKY2H.

Do any of these work?

u/o0adam0o · 3 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

I ride to work everyday and agree with everything.

This is my mount.. Its a bit expensive but we'll worth it: Vibrelli Universal Bike Phone Mount Holder. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010OPQVUS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_ZSv2xbHBESDPJ

u/LeafyLeith · 3 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

Some people use bike mounts for their phones. It's similar to one you would attach to your dashboard on your car, except it goes in the middle of your handlebars on your bike. Here's an example.

I would be careful if you use one while biking on bumpy terrain though, they can spit your phone right out if you shake 'em around too much.

u/day1patch · 3 pointsr/bikecommuting

Depending on what kind of magnet these things have they could very well be more than tough enough. I go magnet fishing quite a lot and man it's easy to underestimate how much power magnets can have. If you get a good magnet mount I think you should have no problems even with cobblestone roads. Personally I use this strap mount that works perfectly.

u/labounty1 · 3 pointsr/bicycling

I've been using this one since 2016:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010OPQVUS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works great. I have tried several others - this was one that you can get tight enough the phone won't move around even when riding on mountain bike trails. It gets used several times a week, and still functions like new. It came with a couple of extra bands, but I've never had to replace that part.

Someone else mentioned quad lock, I don't think those were around when I bought this one, otherwise I may have considered it. This is much cheaper, but I see the quad lock also has rain protection which is a big plus.

u/GMretard · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

u/dirtyoldduck has really sound advice. Brakes and transmission for safety, the rest for peace of mind.

I installed this on a bike a few years ago to charge a GPS and was really happy with the results. You could combine it with this and have an affordable total solution.

EDIT: Formatting

u/bazzaretta · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I would recommend this instead: Amazon

The one you suggested comes with two USB ports, however they split the amps so the first one provides 2.1 amps and the second 1 amp. A typical smart phone needs about 1.4 Amps to charge, so the second USB (1 amp) is useless. I initially bought the same one you suggested and after an hour of use the amps on both ports started dropping down, rendering the charger useless.

Using single 3.1 amps USB port X2 (yes, buy 2) allows me to connect both the camera and the phone at the same time. I went on a 5 day trip while keeping both ports in use and they never dropped the juice.

u/solitudechirs · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

For taller bars, it looks like your year has regular clip-ons, so you should be able to use any bars that are the diameter of your forks. I did a 4500 mile/10 day trip on my 2014 and never had any wrist issues, just a sore butt.

This is the tank bag I use and I have no complaints. I just keep jamming more stuff in it and it seems like there's always room for one more thing. If you're worried about keeping your tank paint in good condition, wax it before you leave, then make sure you don't have any dirt/debris on the bike or the bag when you put it on. It stays planted pretty well on my 2014 VFR, but on my CBR250R it slides around a lot because of the narrow tank, the magnets don't hold very well. I'm guessing your bike has a bigger tank, so a flatter top surface, so it shouldn't be an issue. Just keep it clean and don't slide it around, lift it up if you want to re-position.

RAM mounts are probably the most popular for mounting the phone on the bars, or else you can put your phone in the tank bag. To charge your phone, you can buy one of these, it plugs into the SAE lead from your batter tender pigtail, and converts it to a USB-C port. From there, just plug in a USB-C -to-your-phone's-port cable.

In-helmet bluetooth - Sena 20S or Cardo Packtalk are top of the line, like $250 but they have the best features and they're pretty much guaranteed to work and have good battery life. This is a cheaper option that will likely work nearly as well as the premium brands. I haven't used any of the above, so I can't attest to their quality, but I've heard the latter is worth the savings, although if you're not worried about money, the Sena is the better option.

Rain gear - I wear these pants and this jacket. They're 3 season, warm weather, with a removable waterproof liner. With the liner in, it's comfortable wearing just a T-shirt underneath in the upper 60s. Upper 70s I'll generally take the liner out. Lower temperatures, I wear a long underwear/thermal base layer that's like $10 Fruit of the Loom stuff that works pretty well. The biggest issue with this stuff is that because it's made for warmer weather, it's breathable, which doesn't work out well in cold weather. Given your schedule, this stuff would be fine for the weather. Another option for rain gear is to just have a cheap one piece plastic oversuit/rain coat type thing. Basically a big plastic bag.

For bike security, if you're worried about it, get a chain and hook up to a post. Also, get a cover for the bike. Someone might see a bike and think it's worth stealing, but if they see a blob, they're probably not going to walk over and lift up the cover to see what's under it. If you really want to be sneaky, throw some mud on the cover and put duct tape patches on it to make it look ratty.

Helpful apps - Google Maps/Apple Maps, and a way to listen to music if you're going to be on the freeway a lot.

Miscellaneous:

  • Earplugs/plugfones,

  • Basic tools (metric wrenches, allen wrenches, whatever you need to adjust your chain tension, multitool such as a Leatherman Surge or Wingman)

  • Something to secure loose parts on your bike if something breaks, whether you prefer zip ties, bailing wire, rope, paracord, velcro, whatever you want, just have something that you can strap stuff down with. I have about a dozen 12" zip ties and a $7 roll of velcro that's like 35 feet long.

  • Tire puncture kit, probably also a tire pressure gauge

  • Waterproof luggage. My personal experience says that hard shell luggage is more convenient for accessing during the day, and a waterproof soft shell bag is good for your stuff you won't need unless you're stopped for the night - clothes, toiletries, maybe a laptop, charging cables, etc.

  • Kickstand pad for that one time you park in the grass and realize your kickstand is sinking in from a 500lb bike leaning on it. You can just use a piece of wood or something for this obviously, it's just nice to have something ready for it so you're not awkwardly standing there with your bike waiting for someone to grab you a rock or chunk of asphalt.

  • Written directions, major road names. Electronics these days are pretty much foolproof, but once in a blue moon, you might find yourself somewhere you don't have GPS service or a data connection for your phone. You'll be hundreds of miles from anywhere you know, it's good to have a fallback plan, and it only takes a few minutes.

  • Make sure you can confidently put the bike on the centerstand. You might not be able to do it with luggage, that's fine, but you should be able to do it with the bike unladen. This makes roadside maintenance or hotel parking lot chain tensioning/lubing way easier.

  • Something to write with and write on. I keep a little notebook and pen in my tank bag.

  • Emergency cash, even if you plan on paying for everything with a credit/debit card

  • Emergency credit/debit card, even if you plan on paying for everything with cash

  • Let your bank or credit card company know what states you'll be in, so your card doesn't get denied for suspected fraud when you need an emergency tow

  • Speaking of emergency tow, AAA or AMA membership with roadside assistance

Be prepared for every type of weather that can happen in the regions you'll be passing through, even if it normally doesn't happen there in the time of year. I got snowed on in Texas after leaving Wisconsin, of all places, in late April. Have a plan in case your bike breaks down, or your tire blows, or you chain breaks, or anything goes wrong. A lot of people also recommend hydration systems, e.g. Camelbak backpacks with a straw that goes into your helmet. On my road trip, I was basically subsisting on beef jerky, trail mix, and powerade when I stopped for gas. If you're making a more leisurely trip, there's no reason not to eat real food.
u/waywaw · 3 pointsr/Super73

If you are talking s1, this bag large size fits. I got a bell, designed well, small size fits. Phone mount. I'm getting these gravity wheelnutz for the front wheel (M10). I'm getting these water bottle holders, which seem cheap so can't vouch for them, but needed two and didn't yet put in a longer screw through the fender so I lost the universal mount. Highly recommend the suspension. And honestly, my favorite thing is very specifically for my dog. But, I had to take off the front light on my bike so that she could surf on this basket (there is a strap to connect to a harness so they are protected) tail wagged the whole trail. I too am getting the extended seats, because tall, so the rear just holds a bike lock for now. Should take a break after spending all that money, but going on a bike trip next week for vacation, so far, all super worth it. There are great accessory videos on youtube, the community there is small but wonderful.

u/KrimTheRed · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I've done my rubber on my KLR. I have tubes but the process is (I'm guessing) pretty much the same:

  1. Lift bike off ground. I have a stand to pick up the entire thing but you can do just one tire at a time. We'll do the front.
  2. Remove the front axle. Loosen the axle nut and then the pinch bolts. Don't remove the axle nut. Lightly tap the axle nut to slide the axle out the other side. Keep backing the nut off and tapping until you can't back the nut out anymore. Remove the nut and pull the axle, supporting the tire. Inspect axle for wear and place on some shop rags. Remove speedometer cable when removing front tire. DO NOT SQUEEZE THE BRAKES WITH THE TIRE REMOVED. This will cause you problems trying to open your brake calipers back up to get the rotor in again.
  3. Change your tire. Watch this video for instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAKIuSjPXxA
  4. Put your front wheel back on, lube your axle.
  5. Take the back wheel off in a similar fashion. Change the rubber in the same way.
  6. Adjust your chain, instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqu7WGELU5s

There are some tools to help you:

Dowco Guardian

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HS1356/

So far I've had it for 6 months and it's holding up great. Waterproof and it fits perfectly. We had a nasty wind storm with 40-60mph gusts and it didn't get knocked over either.

u/russlogan06 · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

[Dowco Sport](Dowco 50124-00 Guardian WeatherAll Plus Motorcycle Cover, Black - Sport https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HS1356/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2jqhybA3R5WQJ) is the best cover in my opinion for storage inside or outside a residence.

For use while commuting to work or just a dust cover i'd suggest this Nelson Riggs

I use the Dowco to cover the bike outside my apartment, and the Nelson when i'm commuting to work because it compresses into a tiny little bag and fits in a small backpack.

u/floydiandroid · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

My Dowco cover works perfectly fine on my bike.

u/Bluefire12 · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Im a huge fan of this: Dowco Guardian Weatherall Plus

It's weatherproof, has a vent, pockets under the cover for alarms, and a heat shield so you can put it on immediately after riding.

u/mirathi · 2 pointsr/cruisers

How do you like those saddle bags? I'm tempted to change my leather bags to a fabric, like these.

u/costanza_vandelay · 2 pointsr/SVRiders

Nelson Rigg makes a nice big set that looks like it'll hold quite a bit. Make sure to check dimensions against your exhaust spacing so you don't burn the bottoms of the bags.

http://www.amazon.com/Nelson-Rigg-CL-855-Formerly-Touring-Saddlebags/dp/B00BQ0FM8S

I personally use a cheapo set I got on Amazon and they work fine, but look cheap and don't hold as much as I'd like them to.

http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Accessories-73707-MotoGear-Motorcycle/dp/B000RN4FK6

I also run the top bag and the tank bag with that Classic Accessories set when in full touring mode. For a given trip, it holds enough for:

  • Tire plugs with a Moto Pumps 12v pump
  • Roll of paper towels and water for cleaning the visor
  • Spare cell phone in case my primary is down
  • GPS (when it's not mounted to my RAM mount)
  • Roll of toilet paper in case I have to stop in the woods and shit
  • 2 bottles of drinking water, bag of chips or candy
  • Pair of sneakers (assuming I'm riding with my Alpinestars boots)
  • Bag of dirty laundry (on the return trip)
  • Spare SAE to USB charger for my phone/GPS
  • Rain Gear
  • Spare visor for my helmet (if I'm wearing my helmet that doesn't have an internal visor)

And as mentioned before, 2-3 days worth of clothes, toiletries, medicine, and my laptop are in my backpack.

u/Vulcan9012 · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I've got this and these on my bike and they're excellent. I hold my tools, 1/2 gallons of gas and my papers in it and I have enough room to fold my jacket up and stash it away if I don't want to carry it with me. I've never had any issues with water, and they have a little mini-pocket that has a blaze green bag that goes around each one that you absolutely can not miss, it's like they're glowing in the day light. They just catch your eye.

You really can't beat these for $100(total), and they're Prime! I would give them a 9/10, the straps can be a pain as you have to kind of tie off the loose ends to keep from flapping or catching on something.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/motocamping

They're these:

Very removable. However, I didn't pay that much for them! Keep checking Amazon - they occasionally come down just under $40.

I don't cycle but I use Ram mounts to attach my phone to my scooter.

First, you're going to need the part that mounts to your bike. You could use the [U-Bracket] (https://www.amazon.com/Zinc-Coated-U-Bolt-Mounting-Base/dp/B0012TWRAO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-7&keywords=ram+mount) or if you don't want to permanently attach it to your bike, you could get a [Claw.] (https://www.amazon.com/Mounts-RAP-B-400U-Tough-Claw-Diameter-Rubber/dp/B00JQNRTDI/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902471&sr=8-18&keywords=ram+mount)

Next, you're going to need the [arm.] (https://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Composite-Double-Socket/dp/B0074WMQLS/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-14&keywords=ram+mount) They sell different sizes so you're going to have to determine which size suits you best.

And the last thing you're going to need is the X-Mount. I suggest the [Large X-Mount] (https://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Universal-X-Grip-Phablet/dp/B00C7B2NV4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1469902329&sr=8-13&keywords=ram+mount) for the LG G5.

u/unreqistered · 2 pointsr/cycling

For flats I have a set of the X-Large Bar Mitts also, and frankly I've yet to find anything that has that much room inside them. They're huge, big enough for a ski glove.

Road bars are a bit more difficult, Bar Mitts are really the only good solution I've found.

u/trALErun · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

Right on. These are the ones I bought: Kolpin Geartector Mitts - Black - 92185 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001Q4YMXA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_l9LJDbD9NT6Z1

I haven't tried them yet, but they seem like they'll work well. Their main purpose is to block wind - you'll still need to wear decent gloves.

u/Dual_Sport_Dork · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I'm going to buck the trend and mention that I bought a $20 heated vest on Wish, and that thing is the tits. Sizing runs extremely small, because... China.

It runs for a bitchin' long time off of any USB power bank (the knockoff vests are cheap because no battery is included). You provide your own, but the upside is you can go as big or little as you want in that department. The vest just has a USB plug that you can bung into anything. You could plug it into your bike, too, but a small battery bank is way less of a hassle. It lacks sleeves, but I have not found this to be an issue at all.

Under my normal riding gear it is more than warm enough if I have it on just over my undershirt. Having an insulating shell over it is critical when you are moving, otherwise the heat it generates just blows away. I have never felt the need for heated pants. My ADV pants are plenty warm with the removable liners installed and all the vents closed. If you keep your core warm, your arms/legs should remain warm as well. Fingers and toes are a different story.

I have heated grips, and use a set of cheap GI poly glove liners inside my "winter" motorcycle gloves (which are not actually very warm by themselves). This combo plus the heated grips is adequate for around 30-40 minutes of riding around freezing before I start getting pissed off. I do have handguards with wind deflectors on my KLR, which probably helps -- albeit very slightly.

For extended riding in cold weather, or if you have shit gloves, check out snowmobile hand warmers:

https://www.amazon.com/Kolpin-Geartector-Mitts-Black-92185/dp/B001Q4YMXA/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=snowmobile+hand+warmers&qid=1573939191&sr=8-1

They offer pretty much complete wind protection plus if you have heated grips they will turn into little hot boxes. The trick is to get snowmobile or ATV variants (make sure they'll clear your mirrors, though). You can get "motorcycle" ones which are the same damn thing, but cost 4x more because they say "motorcycle" on them.

Keeping your toes from freezing is more of a challenge. Heated socks exist as do heated insoles. Avoid heated socks. They get stinky fast and they're a major pain in the ass to wash. At the moment I use thick wool winter hiking socks and a pair of Thinsulate full height hunting boots -- possibly throwing crash safety to the wind. They're stiff as fuck, just as much so as some of my dedicated "motorcycle" boots, authoritatively waterproof, and cheap. And warm, most importantly.

u/SuMoto · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I've got a set of Kolpin Bar Mitts, the bar end zips open a bit to help slide them over stuff. With heated grips, these are seriously warm.
I generally just use Moose Racing elephant ears. They are just foam pads, the don't wrap around the handguards. They offer way better wind protection that just bark busters. I have heated grips so these work well. Another link.

the latter yea, I bought this one

Easy to install, have a minor issue with mine where a cable is ometimes resting on my neck, since I didn't take the time to put the wiring in carefully, headphones are of decent quality, and can go too loud (because you still wanna hear traffic!)

I also didn't use the microphone slot, that cable is kind of a pain, it's maybe.. 6" at the isde of my head and just sort of flops about, sometimes I hear like "tick tick tick" from it hitting my helmet at speed

Lots of helmets have headphone places in them now

u/cafeRacr · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Don't mess with your hearing. With your current setup, it will go fast. You may also end up with Tinnitus. In the least it can be annoying, at its worst, unbearable. Always wear earplugs. Don't fall for the gimmicky re-usable earplugs that can be extremely expensive. Just buy a jug of the squishy foam earplugs that are pennies each. This video has a good breakdown. If you want to listen to music, get a helmet speaker system. This one is plenty cheap, and works well. Phone calling also works great, both ways.

u/Doctor-Obvious · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I was actually thinking about buying one like rIGHT now. Is it the same as this product?

u/rancemo · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Just get something made for it, unless you're really good at building stuff like this, but then you probably wouldn't need to ask here. I have a Sena SMH5, and love it. No complaints, works very well. The same company makes several models, including the cheaper SMH3 model, but I didn't care for the boom mic on it because I use a full-face helmet.

u/natermer · 2 pointsr/ebikes

Trailer hitch is the way to go. Curt is the brand I would go with. You are not going to get anything to haul anything heavier through straps or roof racks.

For the Chevy volt you can get a Class 1 hitch, which is the smallest possible. It's a 200 pound max tongue weight, 2000 pound max pull.

This means that if the bicycle rack + bike is more then 200 pounds then that is no good. The hitch will run a 90-110 dollars. Usually you can install it yourself.. no welding or drilling is usually needed, but each car is different. If you are not confident or want somebody else to do it then it would probably be another 50-100 bucks.

Garages can build custom hitches for not much more expensive so if you really want class 2 somebody would build one for you.

You can get bike racks designed to hold the bike up by the tires for full suspension mountain bikes.

Or you can get one for a dirt bike:

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products-SKY1375-Motorcycle/dp/B00916MMJG

That one is a small motorcycle rack for class 2 or better, which you will have to hack and shorten to fit into a class 1. The difference between the class 1 and class 2 is that class 1 has a stop in it to prevent class 2 stuff from fulling seating.

edit: sorry the description in the ad was misleading. 2 inch hitch is class 3 or better. Class 1 and class 2 are 1 1/4 inch hitch.

You might be able to get away with a mountain bike rack if it's pretty heavy duty.

The alternative to that is to get a small trailer.

Small trailers are available for harbor frieght for cheap and people modify them to haul dirt bikes around. It's a bit more expensive and the most annoying part is that you'll have to register the trailer. The upside is that they are small enough you can hide them in sheds or put them against the wall in the garage. But it will have zero problem with that bike and any other equipment you would like to haul around.

u/lavender_ice · 2 pointsr/rav4club

Unless I'm missing something, the hitch I installed from Amazon said it has a tongue weight capacity of 525 lbs. The dirt bike hitch I have weighs 50 lbs plus a DR350 (285lbs) puts safely under. It's pretty thick metal and held up going 70mph on highway.

u/iceman15951 · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Noob here. How should I lift my DR650 to do work on it, like adjust chains and change sprockets? Do I buy one of these and just go at it from anywhere on the swingarm? Is it stable?

Are there any other effective/cheap ways to lift a motorcycle?

u/SteveSweetz · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

You need a swingarm, aka "paddle lift" stand.

Some people will poo-poo the ones I link because they are cheap and aren't the absolute sturdiest stands out there - but for chain maintenance on a light 250, they'll do the job just fine.

I used a Venom stand for 3 years of owning a Honda CBR500R and it was never in danger of giving out.

Have an Oxford Boss for my bike. It's an over sensitive piece of shit. I would not buy it again. It also has a fully exposed shackle for easier angle grinding.

/u/muriel_bing has an Abus 8077, which is fucking fantastic imo. It's sensitive enough that if you stand the bike up it freaks out royally, but not so sensitive that ghosts disturb it. The shackle is also built into the lock and it looks like it would put up a decent fight against an angle grinder.

That said... I think that disk lock that those chavs in that video cut through with a grinder was an Abus, but I'm not sure.

The buzzing on the handlebars landed me comfortably in carpal tunnel territory off the batt, with most of my right hand going numb. Yay for the 2018's hard mounted handle bars! My buddies already had these so I stopped at a random bike shop and grabbed one (was $24.95usd) and it was the best thing ever. Unlike those "cramp busters" that let you release your grip because a flap rests against your palm, these allow you to take your hand completely off the bars while the throttle stays where you set it. I find them at every random bike and atv accessories store. Made all the difference, didn't get in my way at all during twisties, was easy to effortlessly set/release without effort while riding.

I just ran premium, as that's what the manual asks for. US gas is stupidly cheap to start with, so it was substantially cheaper than regular fuel back home, and the MT07's so good on gas anyways. Cost me on average around $7usd/250km, but that was mostly in twistier roads at a good clip; if we did the speed limit I could have extended that range considerably. For how I ride it turned out 250km range worked very well as a guideline.

My shoulders where fine, as you can sit right upright on the MT07 if you wish so there's no strain on them at all.

My ass, on the other hand, was in screaming pain. The seat was simply inadequate for that kind of ride. I find it's good for up to 2 hours at a time. I'd do another ride with this seat if I had to, but I'm hoping to grab... Something, I dunno what yet, to make it better. A seat cover or something.

I brought a toolkit consisting of a Leatherman, a couple crescent wrenches, a set of Allen Keys, a multimeter, some zip ties and some metal wire, a tire pressure gauge with a length of duct tape wrapped around it, and spare universal control cables. I'd say for most people a multimeter is less important, but mine came in handy diagnosing and fixing (bypassing, rather) a friend's gimpy clutch/neutral switch.

Also packed: socks and underwear per day, a pair of spare t-shirts and a pair of pants packed into ziplock freezer bags with the air squeezed out (way more compact than just rolling clothes, AND guaranteed to stay dry), a sweater and an undershirt (layering yo! Adjust to the temperatures), a couple microfiber rags and lens cleaner for my face shield, some Tylenol, a small first aid kit (thankfully unneeded), toothpaste/toothbrush/floss/antiperspirant.

The tail bag is a Nelson Rigg CL 1060S which was phenomenal and looked really nice on the bike, and a cheap cargo net strapped over top for carrying loose stuff (removed layers of clothes, bottles of water, bag of Cheetos, etc) that I wanted fast access to.

Also had a RAM mount off the left mirror stem with a wired in charger so my phone stayed at 100% while rocking Google Maps (downloaded maps, so worked offline) and music to my Sena headset. That charger would fast-charge my phone if the bike was running, or just slow charge otherwise. Having GPS going all the time really relieved some anxiety as I could stop and take photos without worrying about losing the group. Location sharing is super helpful too once your in town; can split up and find each other again effortlessly.

i recently got this vibrelli mount. it fits my iphone 5s in an otterbox case. if i were starting from scratch, i'd probably have gone with the quadlock, but already having a case, this has worked well for me so far and seems to hold the phone pretty securely. (you can double up on the elastic bands for extra security, which seems like overkill on the road but i probably will do it next time i ride some trails). i can't speak for durability since i've only had it a week. if anything on it broke, i'd think it would be the bands, which you get three of.

eta: i got my mount mostly for maps. for music, another option would be a bluetooth speaker, which would also give you better sound quality. you can keep the phone in a pocket or saddle bag. i don't have one, but have been eyeing one that fits in a water-bottle holder.

Not familiar with the options for cruisers but these look good. You want something that is detachable easily. If you intend to ride in the wet, maybe something that is waterproof would be good.

Stick with the full face helmet. While you won't look as cool, your chin will fare better if you ever do come off.

RAM mounts are the best in my opinion for mounting cellphones and other devices. The flexibility of mounting options and the various holders are just awesome. I've ridden some seriously bumpy roads with the X grab thingy and my iPhone 6s plus and it never looked like it was going to shake loose. There are a multitude of options.

Windscreens are a double edged sword. They definitely reduce fatigue but they also reduce airflow, and on a hot day can make it too warm. Suggest getting one that doesn't completely cut off the airflow at 70mph. Just a little air hitting your helmet is good.

Would suggest adding a USB adapter/SAE charging plug. Hook up directly to the battery, so you can use a trickle charger when the bike is not being ridden for more than a few days. Nothing worse than coming to a bike with a flat battery :-(

A lot of people use RAM mounts, but I went out and purchased a Roam Mount. Unbelievably reliable, incredibly durable, absolutely sturdy and pretty inexpensive at $16. I've had it for about 4-5 years on a naked bike, which has no fairings (obviously since it's a naked bike) or windscreen. Wether you're cruising at 45 or 85, you'll feel confident in the product. I've rode as fast (and slow) as the next man and have had absolutely zero issues with it becoming loose or anything.

I bought the sport Dowco cover off Amazon and the fit is very good. The material feels very rugged and it's waterproof. It also comes with a little bag so you can roll up the cover and transport it. A bit pricey but I recommend since my bike is stored outdoors.

u/tintern74 · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Make sure you get one the right size. A little bigger if you plan on having side/top cases on the bike. When in doubt, go for the bigger size.

You really get what you pay for. The $20 ones are terribly flimsy. Best one I've found is the Dowco Guardian ones:

u/MinecraftHardon · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I have these and the tail bag and they've been awesome for the 6 months I've been using them. You really can't beat them for the price, and the tail bag snaps onto the saddle bags so you don't really have to mess with latching it under the seat.

u/docbrown1985 · 1 pointr/Firefighting

Maybe something like this would fit? Would probably be a lot easier than trying to fit all your stuff into one backpack.

u/pwnsauce · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I used to have these saddlebags and go through drive thrus all the time. I'd quickly unzip the top, drop the food in, and take off. Most of the time the person handing over the food was impressed, because they had no idea how I was going to get my dinner home on a motorcycle!

u/wintyfresh · 1 pointr/sandiegoriders

You'd need an Extension Arm (longer ones are available if necessary) and a Bar Mount.

u/StageVklinger · 1 pointr/Motorrad

I bought a RAM mount that clamps to the bar next to the Nav. I tend to use my handlebar location more because the phone covers the instruments some, especially with the windshield lowered all the way.

u/sparksterz · 1 pointr/motorcycles

So my setup is similar to /u/RocketGrouch but a bit more rudimentary. The over view is Ram mount, usb cable, battery tender pigtail to usb connector.

Ram mount parts I used: handlebar mount, connector bracket, phone holder.

I already had a battery tender setup, so figured using this was a no brain-er.

Then I used these cloth braided cables. Didn't know how much length I'd need, but the 6.5 feet was perfect for my use. Allowed me to tuck it around my tank, under my speedo housing shroud and discretely to the handle bars without slack that would risk getting caught.

Certainly not the prettiest solution out there, but I only use this set-up sparingly and store it in my rear bag.

u/FullyBaked · 1 pointr/motorcycles

At first I only used this Cardo Scala G4 which installs into almost any helmet. Now I mainly use it just for music. The playback controls are super easy.

Very recently I added a Battery Tender cigarette adapter along with this Ram Handle Bar Base and my existing Ram X-Grip Mountwith a 1" socket arm. I just took it on a good 2 day ride and loved it completely.

u/JingJang · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

I've tried a few.

I have ended up with the following for three bikes:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UGZTQO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TWRAO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

The last one attaches to your handlebars, the middle goes in the middle, and the "X-Claw" holds the phone.

I commute ~19 miles a day in an urban environment. I have hopped curbs with this setup successfully and Icebiked over rough uneven icy/snowy terrain.

It probably would not be good enough for single-track or similar.

It has an added benefit in that the design works for almost any smartphone.

The spring in the first one I bought three years ago got soft this summer so I bought the "X-Claw" part to replace it. (which is nice - you fix only the part that isn't working).

Its an awesome setup - I recommend it.

u/Triban · 1 pointr/motorcycles

You can use a tool like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0182-Cable-Luber/dp/B0012TYX9W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1463521383&sr=8-4&keywords=clutch+tool+lubricant

with cable lube or WD40(i don't like it).

There is ton of video on youtube to help you.

Brand new cable are already lubrified from assembly but meh.

u/RocketGrouch · 1 pointr/motorcycles

No worries.

And you're right in that cables can also be lubricated, there are devices created expressly to lubricate cables.

https://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0182-Cable-Luber/dp/B0012TYX9W for example.

But if it's rusted and covered in gunk, it's done and it's time to pick up a new one. Normal OEM ones should be well under $50.

Also, old cables will have stretched and the more you use them, the more prone to snapping they are. Same goes for clutch cables.

So replace them on a schedule and thus your chances of avoiding a snapped cable when it's highly inconvenient goes down.

u/Rotting_potato · 1 pointr/Fixxit

For speedo, maybe get a trail tech kit. That dangle thingy is want spins your speedometer.

You dont need to change anything to use LED signals as long as you got voltage. Only recommend to install resisters to stop the fast flashing. Fast flashing will wear out the relay faster.

Get that steering neck checked out. If the bearings are done for, good chance seals are out too and years of water contamination sitting in the neck is asking for it to snap.

For brake cable, you might be able to get away with forcing lube into the sleeve. Get one of these:
Motion Pro 08-0182 Cable Luber https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012TYX9W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UbxWDbSMHQG1A

The loose jet could of been improperly torqued and vibration spit it out or the threads are worn. Id would double check the threads

u/Tiver · 1 pointr/motorcycles

chain wax is not recommended, neither is WD40. Beyond that though you can get specific stuff for the job, or just some generic teflon/lithium/silicon lubricant will do the job.

I ended up getting the Motion Pro Tool and Lube

u/Enduro_Jeff · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I uses chain oil for the clutch cable and wd40 for the throttle cables. I apply with one of these http://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0182-Cable-Lubber/dp/B0012TYX9W you can probably find a you tube on how to use this tool. If you want to lube the throttle tube I use a thin spread of bel Ray grease.

u/elkster88 · 1 pointr/motorcycles

This Motion Pro 08-0182 Cable Lubber [sic] is what you want. You can buy them at most bike shops. Before lubing the cable, make sure it is routed correctly and not binding on something, if you have taken the tank off or done some work to the bike. Also, it's a good idea to consult your owner's manual to see what lubricant Harley recommends. Some cables are lined with plastic that is not compatible with all lubricants.

Kolpin 92185 Geartector Mitts Black

Jokes aside, buy some snowmobile gloves and heated grips. The gloves should have thinner palms and heavy outer layers.

For the heated grips I have been very impressed with the tusk lock on one's. Their about 50usd. Got mine from Rocky mountain atv Mc but you can probably get em anywhere.

u/housedogmartyfavor · 1 pointr/scooters

I modified a set of kolpin ATV mitts to use for the winters in NYC. I cut two holes in the top and screw the rearview mirrors through the mitts. This way they can't get stolen (lost a different pair less than 1 week after buying).

Before these I wore two sets of gloves and would still end up with numb hands by the end of my 30 minute commute home in the winter. Last winter with the mitts I rode throughout with just a single set of riding gloves.

The Sena SMH 10 is what I got for that purpose, along with some reusable earplugs from Harbor Freight. It is waterproof at least on the outside part, so you can leave it on the helmet. The call quality was surprisingly good because it has a noise cancelling mic, and the sound quality of the music was really good when you use earplugs (it sounded okay without it because the bass was missing). I used it for a year and a half with no issues.

$139 or time to upgrade the set and save hers as a backup? I’ve gotten good use for three years on the SMH10 set I bought with another rider in my group. A third rider has a Sena 20 and it more easily plays music and switches back to intercom.

u/djreisch · 1 pointr/motorcycles

The chain on my 2011 CBR250R is going to need replacing fairly soon as it was neglected by the previous owner.

This is my first bike and I don't know all ins and outs of things but I've managed to select new front and rear sprockets as well as a D.I.D 520 series chain.

My question for you oh so knowledgable seasoned pros: I need a chain breaker/riveting tool. After scouring the Internet forums I've come up with these three tools as some of the most acclaimed.

RK's UCT 4060
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0087Y493A/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_rtqKybFV2EHYR

D.I.D's KM500
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPUGWFG/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_puqKyb9PV7WB6

Motion Pro's 08-0470 PBR
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050HJNW4/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_bvqKybE5YW0M2

I've heard the Motion Pro referred to as small, weak, and "a toy", while some complain about the D.I.D to be small and difficult to handle. This left me with the RK which I haven't heard many negative things about.

For those of you who use any (or all) of these, what are your opinions? What are things you've heard about them? Do you have any OTHER tool recommendations other then these three?

u/TrinkenDerKoolAid · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Two types of master links on chains

Rivet style master link (this is how OEMs tend to do it)
http://www.spaikmos.com/pics/MasterLinkLooseSlackCloseup.jpg

Clip Style Master Link
http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/Photos/ChainPhotos/MasterLinkTopLeg.jpg

how you proceed depends on how invested in tools you wish to get.

if you wish to go rivet style then I suggest you get a proper rivet tool. I've done the DIY tool method and used the cheaper tool but they're usually all junk and break in the middle of the job. the winner in my book is the RK Chain tool I have the 4060 and I've done 20ish chains with it so far I love it and the meals/beer I've gotten for helping friends out has more than covered my investment.

http://www.amazon.com/RK-UCT-4060-Universal-Chain/dp/B0087Y493A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415325133&sr=8-1&keywords=rk+chain+tool

If looking to save yourself some money I suggest going with a clip style master link and just cutting the chain off with a hack saw or cut off wheel on either a air tool or electric grinder. Clips go on easily and if you need more than a screwdriver and pliers you're doing something wrong.

u/Andonon · 1 pointr/SVRiders

Barely...

I have three responses. 06 SV650S here. 520 kit (-1/+2, Chain and Sprocket below), K&N, DanMoto XG1 baffleless.

0) Do a Chain and Sprocket first. IMPO the PCV does little to increase acceleration, the changes are more dynamic the just raw power. (I don't know what a Zero Map is). Replacing your stock 530 pitch chain and sprockets with light weight (NOT Aluminum) 520 bits is one of the coolest upgrades. The 520 kit improve acceleration, wheel horsepower and torque by reducing rotating mass.

  1. PC V with a Dyno tune = YES! << I'm planning to get this done but not for power, I'm looking to lean out the bike for efficiency after the chain and sprocket set. I want better mileage, lower the richness.

  2. PC V with downloaded maps = NO!!! << I removed mine and enjoy the bike more. It runs rich either way. Without the PCV the bike seems better across the power band. I have added a couple maps, some changes, still always rich.

Note: I've had two NGK cr8e spark plugs fail/foul in the last 6 months. Care Extras with you if your running rich.
u/YamaFling · 1 pointr/motorcycles

So I got all the tools and part to do a proper chain swap. I wanted to rivet the master link, but realized that the tools I had bought (breaker and chain press) weren't meant for riveting, only a clip master link. I got it all on fine, I just need to swap out the master link for a rivet at some point.

Is there somewhere where I can buy just a riveting tool? I'd hate to blow my budget on this when I already have the breaker and press, and just need something to rivet the master link.

u/PLD · 1 pointr/SVRiders

Cleaning it on the bike isn't bad, you don't need to clean it so well that taking it off sound be a consideration I think. Grunge brush, kerosene, shop towels, rear stand, and chain lube.

I use an RK tool kit I got discounted from Motomummy when I ordered a chain and sprocket set two years ago. I use steel Driven 520 sprockets and EK MVXZ chains on my two SVs. My brother has a Superlite sprockets and a DID ERV3 chain on his ZX9R and they're great.

It works just fine, u/spongebob_meth is right though, it's a little wobbly but once the bike's weight is on it (and on a level surface) it feels more solid. The rubber swingarm holders have deteriorated a little bit but they do the job. I've been using it to clean my chain every 2-3 weeks for the last year and it's held up.

I recommend Roam's offering. I have a G5 Plus too and it's a really good fit with the largest strap.

Check out a roam on amazon, has great reviews. Mine has worked great, and if you like it and leave a review and let them know they will send you an extra one. Also, I am fairly new and have not taken it out on anything super gnarly so if that’s the what you will be on thenthe all in one case mounts Mentioned may be the best bet. For now bough it’s holding my iPhone 10 very secure.

> You could use a cell phone but strapping your cell phone to your bike is typically a bad idea.

Why's that a bad idea? I was hoping it would be a easy cheap GPS with something like this

I believe your phone is IP68 rated so you don't really need a waterproof case/holder for it.

I got this yesterday for my iPhone 7. Cheap, easy and intuitive to fit (took me 5 minutes without instructions) and seems like good quality, although that's TBA.

I got this for my Sportster. Holds up well through the crater-ridden New Jersey roads. Only thing on the bike I don't have to re-tighten after each ride.

I returned the TaoTronics and the Roam handlebar mounts. I did like how the TaoTronics model had a more secure cradling mechanism, but I didn't feel confident that either of them would last more than a couple months. I also took a look at the Cycway mount, which looks pretty solid. I might give that one a try soon.

Bought mine 3 months ago. Love it.

SHOEI RF-1200 RUTS TC-5 XLG https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1KMBJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Mexszb00KC3V8

Came with a pinlock anti fog insert and clear visor.

Ordered the black tinted visor and additional pinlock insert from Amazon.

I've also got the cheap $40 Yideng Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom Headset Interphone Communication System For Motorbike Skiing Helmet To 2 or More Riders(Single) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FRY1GC4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_agxszbREDV30S

Speakers suck but so far haven't crackled or distorted.

Talking is good and loud enough to hear, sometimes too loud. But my bike is too loud so I don't use it often as I'd rather listen to music.
