It is an '82 XS400 special. It ran from 77 to 82. I have drag bars, but left all the cables the original length. The horn bracket got flipped upside down so I could access it/install a new one. I made a bracket that attaches to the bar running down in front of the engine to hold to LED fog lights, run by an auxiliary switch. Painted and wrapped the headers and have emgo shorty mufflers. Emgo pod filters, and a puck-style filter for the breather tube nipple. Led tails, led indicator lights, Upgraded headlight. Point of note on the headlight, mine was a sealed beam halogen. So to add a new bulb you have to buy an aftermarket reflector housing from candlepower.

EDIT: Also forgot Oury grips, cafe mirrors, new fuel lines, fuel filter and vacuum tube.

Looking at pics of the brute, looks pretty low, maybe it is just the picture that was taken. Maybe just me over thinking / looking.

Amazon exhaust for $88 is hard to beat.

It sounds pretty good. Much more aggressive than stock. Sounds like a 250cc dirtbike. But still quiet on idle.

I'd recommend playing with different combinations of the baffle insert to get your preferred sound.

u/HikaruEyre · 2 pointsr/supermoto

Could maybe use this. Although the reviews aren't that great.

u/adhocadhoc · 2 pointsr/sv650

Not sure the budget BUT my bike came with this exhaust (for a 2005) before it was stolen and I liked the exhaust so much I bought it again! Really gets the throaty V-twin sound out.

They should also have a stainless steel model for a few cheaper which sounds exactly the same of course

I run the zeda 88/ cdh 66 pipe and its quite good. Added enough torque that I can pull wheelies now. Needs a muffler to be at a reasonable volume though. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ONOY9/ That's the muffler I used. Doesnt reduce performance much, and makes it very very quiet.

u/pyronerd94 · 2 pointsr/hondagrom

Definitely! If you end up going that route, keep your stock exhaust in the garage or something. The straight pipe has no catalytic converter, thus may not pass an emissions test depending on laws in OK. I'm not sure how strict they are. Just put your stock back on when you get the inspections done, and switch it back out when you get home. Takes like 30 minutes tops. Links here:

Thanks for the info and suggestions! Im deffinitely not looking to up the power just yet as this is my first bike and im sure i can grow into it for quite some time before im looking to up the power.

That being said a fuel tuner seems like a great idea simply for the longevity of the bike and also upgrading exhaust and intake in the future.

Do you suggest any efi optmizers specifically? A quick search has me thinking the EHS one may be the way to go but the HMF one is another option, but seems 'cheaper'. Any thougts?

My slip on came with the elbow piece. It was good a length but too big to fit in the end of the tip so I had to sand the paint off and bang it into the tip after I heated it up. Kind of a pain.

Mine arrives tomorrow, buddy of mine got one for his MT09 and sounds AMAZING, for the price it has amazing reviews.. I was going for akra also but I had to go with this one for the fact its literally only $260 and i've heard it in person... the only thing is it doesn't come with instructions but there are youtube videos (US AMAZON shows like +30 4 and 5 star reviews, nothing less)

Free flowing ? I dont exactly know what that means. I’ll look it up but thanks for your info I really appreciate it.
Lets say I get this or something

There are some dryer vents that come with a pest guard. Install one of those and make sure to clean it every few months. You can even find just a guard that will fit over some vents.

I'm in a time crunch for autocross this weekend, so I quickly ordered this. Hoping it does the job.

u/msh21 · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I love that color. Was going to go for that but there was a significant price difference between that and an all black one.

Question, this m4 exhaust I was looking at says universal. Would you happen to know if this will fit our bikes?

These are the ones I got. They were actually $11.35 for the set, but that's not bad compared to other prices I've seen. I'm not sure if the brand matters if it's the same outer diameter and a similar thickness.

u/homelesshyundai · 1 pointr/motorizedbicycles

I used this muffler from Amazon on my motorized bike and it works great. On your pipe you will need to use a small piece of heater hose and some hose clamps to attach it as your pipe and the muffler have the exact same size entry/exit points. I know this because I have that exact expansion chamber lying around.

Also you can cut it down to whatever length you need, in my case I cut it in half and it still works beautifully to keep the racket down.

u/Nalopotato · 1 pointr/FZ09

All i know is, ive never seen an Akra like this...I'd stay away. I recommend the M4 slip-on or the Akra full system (the slip-on doesn't say it fits the FZ-09, but it might)

u/TheOfficialStorm · 1 pointr/FZ09

Personally, I don't like the look at all. It's also not as throaty sounding as I like. I'd put out the extra $54 and get what I have.

Was looking at something like this which should do the trick although I have read elsewhere these can cause issues with lint build up and should be avoided but I figure cleaning this thing however often necessary beats the alternative...

Amazon has banana pipes for around 30$ and I noticed a really big difference after I install it. Sounds more like a 2 stroke should and a lot more power. I think this is the one I bought. https://www.amazon.com/CDHPOWER-Chromed-Banana-muffler-design/dp/B06Y65HD7F/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=80cc+exhaust&qid=1573140941&sprefix=80cc+exha&sr=8-11
