ATV version that works for my bike because it doesn't have drop bars, also these are $13

I'm 6'4" so I can feel about 80% of your pain.

The two things I did to get more comfortable was picked up this seat from Amazon for about $100, it eliminates the hump and makes it so much easier to slide back a little.

Also I got the Pro Taper XR50 handlebars, they are a bit taller than the stock bars and then like you when I installed them, I have them angles more forward to the point that they are almost straight up and down, and my riding position is so much better.

Also just accept that you look ridiculous on it and embrace it. :)

Hands: These ATV mitts were $13 when I ordered them, they are out of stock but I'm sure you can find comparable for a similar price. I would usually wear a light pair of gloves under these mitts.

Legs: I found just using a cheap pair of rain pants over my other layers added a lot of extra protection, that is easy to remove if you get hot or when you arrive, without removing boots.

Face: On very cold days I would use a scarf around my face with a balaclava under. I bought ski goggles used.

This is what I have on my Brooks b17

Balance that against the thought of a car turning right after you pass because he didn't expect the trailer. I think both options have their downsides.

My wife and I used the rack seats. We liked it because it put them close enough to us that we could talk. One of the big downsides is that it puts a lot of extra weight high up on the bike and it really messed up the handling on my road bike. I had to lower my saddle and raise my handlebars to compensate. The Blackburn Co-Pilot comes with a functional rack (as opposed to several others that have a rack, but that can't be used for anything other than attaching the seat) and is really easy to install.

I only used a rented trailer once. I really liked the stability. The big downsides to me were that the kids were too far away to talk and that it was a lot heavier to haul. Friends that use them really like them for the extra hauling capacity that they have...makes trips to the grocery store via bicycle with the kids possible.

Edit: If you want to try both options, I have a CoPilot seat you can have for the price of shipping, if you're interested. You'll need your own rack, though (I love mine too much to part with it). This is the one the seat fits.

get an Airhawk! They're great

don't put a lot of air into it, just enough to fill the shape of the seat. it's great for long travels.

I've done Hwy 1 South from San Francisco to LA 3x. It's a beautiful ride, around 420 miles, and takes 12 hours. The 5gal tank on the FZ6 is nice. You'll get around 200 miles. If you fill up in Monterey, you should make it to SLO before needing to fill up again. That's a long leg along the coast where there aren't too much fuel stops.

it doesn't look like it has much of a saddle. i'd think about an airhawk or a sheepskin at least. this seat cover looks pretty good.
